Name: Herodotus Sykes, Engineer

Gender & Race: (Ancient) Human Male
How you got here: Herodotus arrived when the first men descended from the sky. Charged by the so called "colonial" authorities with overseeing the maintenance and "terraforming" of the newfound planet, something went really wrong with the navigation controls of his vessel and was lost to the world.
Background: Aeons ago, Herodotus spent his youth growing and learning under a different sky and sun. A son of an otherwise unremarkable couple, he always had a fascination to take flight and conquer the stars, and his dream was realized when he enlisted in one of such colonial attempts. The journey was long and uneventful, but Herodotus persevered and prepared himself for the titanic task of bringing a new planet up to shape so that humans could inhabit it.

However, the day of the landing, a severe malfunction on his descent pod veered his trajectory far off, and he crash landed into the northern wastes in a crevice. The subsequent landslide of rocks and ice emtombed him, and he was considered dead. He, however, survived, by clinging to the pod's basic healing support systems and cold sleep functions. The world changed around him. The Void invaded. Kingdoms rose and fall, and the ancient systems he was supposed to repair were forgotten and poorly maintained, all while he slept as his wounds healed. A massive earthquake in recent times, a fortitous event, freed him from his ice prison. The sight what awaited him was appalled, and he nearly succumbed to despair after sighting orcs for the first time, and thinking that had been the fate of all mankind. But he persevered. He traded his futuristic equipment, useful but rather depleted with the tools of hunter-gatherers, and he made a beeline towards civilization. The Void, the Guardians... the recent events. So many situations to repair and fix, and so little time.

Powers, Abilities, & Equips:

Mark of the Overseer: An engraved three point star tatoo in his flesh, this actually serves as a method of recognition and master key for many of the ancient systems that might still be scattered about. It also allows to learn and process much more quickly new languages and information.

Ancient Engineer: Sykes knows the ins and out of the ancient technology. At the proper place at the right moment, this can bear exceptional fruit. However, due to the vast amount of knowledge required to do at once, he needs a programmed chip to store the blueprints of most things. Since his ordeal, this has been restricted to self-taught devices, which nevertheless include high-grade medieval weaponry and tech.

Hunting: Sykes has a good aim, and he is rather fit. He can use a bow with no small amount of skill (although a gun would be much better) and he can also fight acceptably with the knife. He is also good at tracking and has notions of stealth.

Omni-tool: Basically, a futuristic multi-tool. It can be used to repair ancient tech. He keeps this device hidden due to its hi-tech appearance. (Requires an ID mark to work). The Omni-tool has also a display which connects with the ancient Sky-Eye network of satellites, which are useful for positioning or getting the topography of a place done. (Although Sykes isn't sure the network still works).

Desired Class: Ranger
Character Flaws: Herodotus is jaded and rather cynical, and he is often than more frequently detached from the events of the world at large. He has a tendence to consider non-human races as servant races. He also is under immense emotional strain, and grief might make him much more callous and reckless than he would be otherwise.
Famous Quotes: "This was not meant to be."
And posted. Sykes just activated a satellite view on the Throne Room by accident. XD.
@Thinslayer

Drip. Drip. Drip.

The man eyed the damp cellar of the castle with reticence, his worn boots descending the small tortuous steps to the chambers beneath. He inhaled deeply, manifesting his tiredness to the world, even if few people could hear. He was an average, toned man, in the garb of those who roamed around. Hunters. Often scavengers. And often those scavengers, covered in leathers and hoods, were the ones with the keys of knowledge ages past.

The heart of the city was ancient, and the mists of time had eroded the knowledge about its structure and function to all but a few who were lucky enough to seize the tiny fragments of those that had Come from the Stars. Such was Sykes, the man who now stopped, his nose frowning upon seeing a rat the size of a small house animal scurry past his feet. Truly, the power plant, one of the greatest assets of Midhaven, needed every single maintainance it could get, judging by the signs of disrepair that were more evident as he descended into the small cubicle full of mirrors which in the ancient tongue of the starmen was inscribed as "Control Room." The scavenger eyed his companion. A mage of no small talent, a confident of the Archmage, and ultimately the King. He was to be their eyes, for one could not leave such an asset unguarded. Sykes coughed, and extended his hand in a bump in the cold metal door. Clearing his throat, he chanted.

"Oh, ancestors, grant me passage." He said, while straining his visage, as if he was performing some kind of magic feat. And the ancient machines answered, springing to life in a slow, lamenting noise. Doors of metalwork without match in this era slid open, revealing the damp, ghastly interior. Sykes didn't hesitate, as he step inside the unknow.

And just like that, the door sealed shut. Apparently the machines had only found Sykes worthy of passage.

At least that was the official version, Sykes thought. He was no scavenger, no specialist in ancient technology. He himself was a piece of living past, but in a world of reality warping features known as magic, mutants and in general backwater societies, it would be wise to keep his true past to all but himself. Long gone were the days where he gazed at the virgin skies, from the spaceship... and wondering how the colonization would happen. Forgotten by the world at large, and cast in a retrograde future, he lived to get by, wishing to repair what had gone wrong.

Damp, and in disrepair, the control room felt more nostalgic and homely than a hundred inns to the ancient engineer. "I am sorry master Vanarys, the machines of the ancients are fickle. They do seem to want me and me only. I am safe, but for the time being we might be incommunicated for a bit." He lied. Truth to be told he know the command to override the door safety and allow it open, but he would not tell. He only hoped the mage on the other side was sensible and did not wrench the door open with the powers of his mind.

His eyes traced in the barely lit dark the keys of a metallic keyboard. After a few strokes, and dusting a few cobwebs, the device was up and running.

The mirror-like screen flickered to life as he brushed his hand slightly. The mere proximity of the mark on his left hand served as identification for a lot of systems, he did not need to use handwaving and voice commands, but it was better to keep the performance in public, as he had done so earlier.

>Antaeus Inc Reactor 3TF-669B
>Last login, XXX of the XXX.
>HELLO SYKES, WELCOME BACK.

The ancient machine displayed, an automated message he himself had configured centuries ago whenever he identified himself. Sykes wasted no time in typing, stroking the keyboard with a swiftness unseen in ages, the room half in shade and in the dark.

>Power output 48%
>Maintenance required on sectors 4B, 4C, Main, AUX, and SCONTROL.

He sighed, as he eyed the data. Several parts were clogged or corroded. However, some of them could resist some more wear, and the trick of flushing some more coolant in some of the lines seemed to do the trick for some issues. He wished he still had the tools he had landed with. He could probably bring the reactor to its optimal treshold. But that would have to do for a little more.

>Power output 57%
>Lines on 4C Restored.
>Proximity alert triggered.

"Hm?" Sykes eyed the screen, as a low key alarm began to ring. "Uh, that is odd." He said loud, hoping to quell the mage on the other side of the door. "Apparently the machine sensed something outside." Sykes added. Well, it was true enough. He pondered. Maybe he could...

>SkyEye Uplink connected
>Panel in SCONTROL Deploying
>Obstruction found. Overriding...

Sykes gasped, as ancient system went online, connecting the old satellite network positioning system to the video feed of the plant systems. He had eyes now...

But not only him. Somewhere, in the Superior Control Room, which happened to be located in the same place of the Throne room, a panel shuddered to life, tearing through tapestries and displaying alien, shifting images of the aerial view of Midhaven...albeit from a mind-boggling height. Rings of light and strange words appeared in several dots that surrounded the castle.

Well, he probably would have something to explain after that, Sykes thought bitterly...

Still waiting on the OK to move the character and start crankin' a post.
Sounds interesting...

Famous Quotes: "This was not meant to be."

Mei's steady gait stopped, after the subtle, but fairly noticeable prompt of her companion. She breathed deep, in the alleway, as she allowed herself to catch her breath. "Why, you say." She paused as she eyed the droplets down her legs. She had to do something about the blood samples she was scattering through half of the city aswell. She inhaled, thinking carefully. He seemed keener than she initially thought, maybe she could reason with her charge as if he were an infant rather than a severely mentally-impaired patient. "Flowers. It's because of that." . She pondered. "A flower is a fragile thing, that one might crush at our mercy in our palms, should we wish to. However... it is also a wondrous thing. Something that has been growing on water, soil and light, and yet exquisitely complicated." Mei added as she spotted a manhole cover. "Should we not, then, grow flowers instead of crushing them?" She paused as she strained herself dragging the cover out, the raw smell making her nostrils curl. "Saving ghoul lives is even more complicated, while extinguishing them is still fairly easy. I want to see a world full of life, not full of death as it is now.". She indicated to Draco. "Now we go down, Hopefully whatever kind of stuff grows in the sewers will ruin any kind of trace we are leaving. It is going to stink, but then we will go to have a shower at some haven I possess."

I'll have to scrub down hard the grime leading to the haven too, but I can do that with a bit of more time. Mei bitterly thought as she splashed inside the sewer.
Interesting.I am not much of a gun fan, but the setting holds promise.

Just one question, would non-criminal human sorcerers still be able to join?
Well with@Lmpkio leaving, the RP finally kicked the bucket.

@Lmpkio@Renny@Cassowarysaur@Holy Grail Thanks for participating.

Mei gritted her teeth as she watched the chimera regenerate, blood trickling down her leg where she had made her surprising act of self mutilation. Back in the day, she would have agreed to kill any dangerous ghoul, but now, years and years of seeing the fragility of existence in full force made her think otherwise. Humans were fragile, ghouls less so, but still surprisingly fragile aswell. At least her stopgap measure had saved the attacker.

He looked at her in confusion, craving for reaffirmation through touch. Would that be a younger ghoul, she probably would have flinched, but she stood there, staring down the creature. Her medical knowledge kicked in some sort of automated protocol.
"Awake?Good, you had quite a heavy hit. Do you know who you are and where are you? Please follow my finger with your eyes." Mei parroted, as she performed some tests on the ghoul to assure the condition... wasn´t worsening. She looked left and right, and clasped one of his hands.

"We should make ourselves scarce." The chinese ghoul said, while trying to limp towards shelter, chimera ghoul in tow.
