Zhalia was quick to leave the food tent behind them. For one, she didn't appreciate that this place would see a constant flow of people entering and leaving, disrupting the quiet she craved. And for another, she didn't think getting to know someone was easiest here. The fire would be a much calmer spot, even though it technically had more people surrounding it than the food tent.

As they weaved through the crowd, Simon asked her about settling in. Zhalia smiled. "Well, I met you." She shot him a quick glance. It was true, he was the first person she actually considered having met here. Unless you counted the Coven Head, one Miss Lina Calvo. She let out a sigh and raised her eyebrows involuntarily at the thought of that welcome greeting she had received. Her head spun around to look for the woman but she couldn't spot her at the moment. Funnily enough, that made Zhalia's stomach turn. Something about her...

"Here we are", she gestured to the open fire with her mug in hand as if there was any possibility Simon could have missed it. As they moved closer, she could feel the warmth caress her skin. Anticipation put a small smile on her lips. She had always enjoyed the warmth of a fire, sitting in the dark night with a warm drink, a soft ending to a long day.

As she walked around the fire, her eyes scanned the area for any free seats. There weren't too many seats in general as the entire thing was a makeshift situation but there were some outdoor chairs provided and some of those benches that would always squeak whenever someone would sit on them. At her coven, they would sit on wood logs and on the floor in the dirt. She quickly chased the thought away. This was not the time or place to be reminiscent. "There is some space", Zhalia pointed out. As she began moving in the general direction, heading towards the free seats, Zhalia carefully managed to actually not bump into any person this time around. She did not need to repeat the incident from earlier. One hot tea spill on her hand was enough for the night.

"I am still adjusting", she began to answer Simon's earlier question. "But it seems like a really nice place. Lina Calvo... She seems really... invested... in her people." Zhalia turned her head to look back at Simon for a moment. "How long have you been here?" She closed the last few steps towards the empty seats, shooting a shy "Hi" in the direction of the blonde woman who occupied the farther end of the bench before sitting down and scooting a little closer to make space for Simon to sit as well. "I was gonna head towards the woods in a bit to collect some herbs. It's tradition." She shrugged nonchalantly, as if it meant little to her and was just a habit, but that would've been a lie. "I know the soup is provided but I'd like to pick the herbs myself. Or at least what I can find. You're welcome to join me if you like." Zhalia brought the mug to her lips to take a sip of her tea. It had cooled down enough to not burn her anymore.

LIFE AT RITMAN Melanie Cavill was an exceptional student, focusing mainly on science and mathmatics. Though she was far from the worst off student in the food chain of Ritman High, Melanie had her fair share of bullies. As some students would get bored with their usual targets, they'd turn to her instead. This resulted in a seasonal bullying cycle that would last for 3-or-so months before she would mainly be left alone again. Then rinse, and repeat. Melanie spent most of her time at Ritman in content solitude in one of two places. When she wasn't doing her homework early in a corner of the school's library or reading up on something, she could mostly be found playing Dungeons & Dragons with the school's D&D club. And while that surely made her more of a target, Melanie was never the bullies' main subject. Perhaps that had to do with the fact that she would be a favorite pick for anyone's team in PE class and on occasion could be found playing ball with some of the boys. Far from the nerdy stereotype, Melanie was exceptionally fast, enduring and really good at a lot of sports they'd put students through. Thus Melanie fell on a weird enough place on the "nerd -- jock" scale that she was mostly left alone. However, it also meant that she didn't really belong to either group. Since solitude was her go-to anyway, Melanie didn't try to change or fit in. She was content with her place in High School. PSYCHE Melanie has always been a person enjoying her solitude. She was fine with the few friends she had, enjoyed the activities she invested time in and found that her ideal work-life balance usually consisted of more work than "life". Especially if that work was self-proclaimed. Melanie always loved to tinker. She would spend many hours taking apart all sort of household items as a child, driving her parents mad. Growing up on a small farm, Melanie was used to taking care of their equipment and animals, finding the work with horses especially rewarding. Melanie is a kind soul, someone who will take your secret to the grave, who can sit for hours and let you talk without interjecting and who will come to your house at three a.m. without any questions asked. But she is also someone who is extremely determined in the pursuit of her career, often making it hard to keep in touch with friends and family. She thoroughly enjoys her work and hobbies to the point where she sometimes isn't sure how much she really needs other people. Though whenever she disappears into one of her solitude-holes for some months, she always notices that she is indeed still human with human needs, one of those being human connection. Having been fine with being by herself most her life, Melanie has grown accostumed to not needing to deal with other people's opinions. At times, it can be challenging to get Melanie to cooperate or consider another point of view if she has already made her decision or is fixated on one path. Melanie also tends to rather shake her head and leave a situation than deal with misunderstandings as she has a rather low tolerance for social interactions. Being as smart as she is, Melanie is definitely not a teacher. She will often refuse to explain what she is doing or how she is doing it unless she considers you in her league about the subject at hand. This is not out of a feeling of arrogance but rather out of intolerance for needing to explain herself or to guide someone's mind through her thoughts. She does not like being slowed down and thus is not the person you wanna ask for help if you need it explained rather than just done. The darkest hour Melanie has ever faced started on the 5th of September 2005, when her 10-year-old sister died. Mel was eight at the time. Though her sister had been diagnosed with cancer two years before, it still came as a shock when she finally went. The girl had appeared to have been doing better but a sudden attack on her immune system left her to a fatal end. Her parents, naturally devasted, tried their best to still be there for their other daughter. Melanie was taken care of as best as possible. Though she received therapy alone and together with her parents, some rough years followed in which the family struggled extremely, especially financially, seeing as the loss of their daughter hindered their capabilities to provide a stable income, but the community helped them out on the farm, helped with Melanie and assisted them financially until they caught their footing again. The sister in question, Alaina Cavill, was the sweetest girl you ever did meet. Though she was undoubtedly a cheeky person, she had her charm turned up to a million. There was never a person who met her and did not instantly like her, at least that was true for the adults. Alaina did get along with other children pretty well, too, but she seemed to always prefer the attention of grown-ups, with the exception of Melanie. Though they fought like any other siblings, the two had a strong bond. With Alaina having been born deaf, communicating with other children outside of the deaf community was a hassle. Though she had hearing aids, they usually gave Alaina mad headaches and migraines, so she would rarely use them. As they grew older, Melanie was quick to step up as an interpreter for her sister whenever needed; that being especially when they were outside playing with hearing children. "The Tinkerer"
Melanie's relationship to herself is mostly positive. She has no crippling insecurities and rarely feels the need to overcompensate for something, although her focus on always keeping busy and achieving the next thing might be interpreted as such. She has always had a deep love for tinkering and building things and has to this day kept that hobby as her main free time activity. Alongside tinkering, she finds D&D and gaming relaxing, both things that keep her mind thinking and running instead of shutting it down. Slowing down her thoughts seems to be something she is incapable of. Melanie has a healthy sense of self and pride. She doesn't feel the need to compete often as she doesn't strive for external validation. She finds a lot of safety in the fact that she had always known who she is and what she likes. This leads to her being rather slow to accept confusing feelings. The idea of indulging in romantic or deep connection is frequently being pushed back into a corner of her mind. If such thoughts occur, she tends to overindulge in her tinkering to an extent of losing sleep. If something scares her, it is loss of control. And what quicker way to lose control of oneself than to engage in romantic behavior?

Meir was a friend to Melanie. Their shared interst in academics meant they understood each other's passions on a different level than others could. Though he was closer to Sara, Meir and Mel got along just fine and would hang out occasionally. This continued when they both got accepted into MIT. They started to lose contact gradually when they stopped sharing classes with each other and eventually it fizzled out after graduating from MIT. Mel knows he is a teacher at MIT and Meir knows Mel is an engineer. But since she moved to Manchester after graduation, they both didn't manage to uphold communication.

Melanie didn't really know William Bishop. She knew what everyone knew about him: He was a musician and he performed in front of the school sometimes. That was it. He did attend one session of Dungeons and Dragons during High School. And he was a pretty decent player, Mel would have been okay with him coming back but he never did. Does that make him an acquaintance? Mel didn't really think about him after graduating from Ritman High. She doesn't even know he made it in the music industry.

Sara and Meir being as close as they were meant that Mel automatically got to know Sara through her friendship with Meir. They formed somewhat of a friend group, the three of them, hanging out on occassion, though Sara and Meir always had a closer bond to each other than to Mel. They shared an academic passion and thrive that lead to them naturally becoming friends. Melanie admired the way Sara went at a problem and got it done! Just pure efficiency. From Melanie's perspective, Sara seemed to have a foot in every extra-curricular known to mankind at one point. She may have asked Melanie to join the science decathlon once or twice - God knows she has the wits for it - but Mel wasn't one to join any school clubs, the D&D club being that rare exception. After High School, contact fizzled out as neither of them was very good at keeping in contact when there was no regular activity they shared.

Melanie had multiple run-ins with Jack during their High School days. Mostly this was when Mel came out of her solitude cave and joined some of the sporty types in a game of soccer or basketball or whatever else they were playing that season. She never joined any team, but she would play ball with them occasionally and it just so happened that sometimes Jack could be found hanging around, too. During those rare moments they circled the same people, Jack and Mel would not share many words. Some teachers would nudge Melanie to help Jack with school work, probably in an attempt to get Jack to care more, but the one time Melanie gave in and actually offered to meet up for something like tutoring, Jack declined. And Mel never asked again. Though she never shook the feeling that there was much more lying under that brooding surface than what Jack showed. After High School, Mel only saw Jack once more. During one of Melanie's family visits to Delton, she drove past Ms. Sullivan’s house and saw Jack cleaning windows.

Melanie always thought Oleandar was a rather cute individual and she could see a lot of potential in him. He seemed like someone really good to cuddle with, watch movies with and do all those friendship and romantic things Mel never experienced during High School. In that way, she kind of envied him a little. But naturally, she didn't let herself think about that. And Oleander always seemed a little too insecure to really embrace the things that made him wonderful to be around. Due to Melanie not really being able to manage those emotions and just being prone to solitude, they never became the friends they probably could have been if she just put some more effort into it. Oleander turned out to be the person that hugged Melanie most, outside of her closest friends and family. And she enjoyed that. In an attempt to do something to initiate a friendship, she asked Oleander to join the D&D club once but it was declined. It probably would have been better to ask him to the movies but Melanie wasn't that emotionally smart back then.

Melanie didn't know Marco but she knew his music. On occassion, she would get keys to unoccupied classrooms so she could work on her subjects in peace. One of those rooms was right next to the music room. Melanie always enjoyed hearing Marco play, it was a welcome background sound for when she studied. But at some point, Marco started to show up to the music room less often until he finally stopped coming altogether. Mel never talked to Marco and the only reason she could put a face to the music was that Marco had performed in front of school regularly. She vaguely knows that he had some health stuff going on but that is the extent of it.

There is always that one person during High School, isn't there? For Melanie that was Natalie Miller. It started out as a convience agreement. Melanie disliked group projects, she needed all the work to be up to her standards and couldn't handle dealing with other students when it came to her academic success. Natalie disliked doing schoolwork and didn't care as much for her academic standing. They soon formed a lose convinience-based "friendship" where they would partner up for group projects so Melanie could do the work and just give Natalie the required information to seem plausible in front of the teachers. Whenever teachers thought Natalie used, paid, or even blackmailed Mel, they both backed up the same story. It was really beneficial to both sides. Though there was this little thing where Natalie's "friends" (why did she hang out with them!?) would occasionally get bored of their usual targets and find Melanie an interesting torture subject. It never lasted long though and the more benefits Natalie got out of their acquaintance ("friendship"?), the more those plastics left Melanie alone. They went on to get along quite well, at least whenever those other "friends" weren't around. During the years, some sort of physical attraction developed. It all found its climax when the two of them had a fling right before the end of High School. After High School, Melanie would google Natalie's name and browse her Instagram once or twice a year out of curiosity where Natalie was at but other than that, Melanie didn't think about her too often.

Melanie can't say she ever knew Samuel. He sat at the back of class, never bothered her directly and they didn't really run in the same circles. She knew he was a pained individual with troubling emotions by the way he presented himself and seemed to not care. Those who didn't care in loud silence always had something going on. So she stayed away from him. Emotions really weren't her thing, be it those openly displayed or those deeply buried and burned.

There was something about this person that Melanie disliked, though she couldn't quite place it. At first, she just thought it was another smart kid who would be at the end of the plastic's mercy and then go on to make something of himself after school. But Melanie noticed that something was different about this boy. Not only did he seem to assemble a group around himself - which was fine; people stuck together in high school for protection, she knew this much - but he seemed to have a keen understanding of the intricate web of social relations that Mel had only ever seen displayed by those who abused that knowledge to bully others. Though she never talked to Trystan, she heard things said about him. Pairing those things with her gut feeling, Melanie stayed away from him. She would still be wary of him upon meeting him again.

Elliot, more often than not called Eli, is a quiet person. Though she does not mind groups of people or conversations, she finds it much more rewarding to let other people do the talking and sit back in the shadows to watch the play unfold. Having always been someone who enjoys observation, Eli tends to notice things others don't. And others sometimes tend to not notice Eli.

From an early age on, Eli showed a fascination for most things she encountered and would be drawn to all kinds of non-fiction books. Starting with various children's books on animals and their behaviour, Eli would read up on many themes, topics, items, things, and ideas throughout her life.

Having a deep love for research, Eli has a desire to know more about a problem before attempting to solve it. This often leads to her delaying certain tasks until she has read up on them "enough" to tackle them - which, unfortunately, oftentimes just leads from one research rabbit hole to another and leaves the task undone for multiple weeks.

Though libraries are her best friend, Eli is not someone who spends all her time indoors. At a young age, Eli found herself fascinated with jumping fences and climbing walls. This would result in another dedicated hobby: parkour. Though she would never do any "workout" sport of any kind freely, Elliot can't help but love the feeling of parkouring through town. While she engaged in that hobby more freely as a child and teen, she is a bit more aware of how it looks for a 36-year-old woman to jump around benches, fences, and walls in the middle of the city. Though she does still do it, she prefers to do it when the least amount of people are watching her.

If confronted with a fight, Eli is more likely to dodge and hide and wait for an opportunity to disarm her opponent than to engage in a combat situation outright. Though she will not back down at the first sight of danger, she is not one looking to be in a physical fight either. If needed, she will back up her allies and step up for those she cares about.

Six years younger, little Elliot was fascinated by her older brother for as long as she could remember. While Eli mirrored many of his habits and interests throughout their childhood when she was younger, not all of them stuck.

Eli was an exceptional student. Always with a nose in a book - non-fiction, mind you -, Eli could have been a teacher's favorite: studying hard, writing long essays, and always quiet in class. Had it not been for her unquenchable curiosity, Eli's life would have looked very different. Instead of growing up as an outstanding student, Eli grew up as an outstanding student with a school file full of entries. Almost all of them: breaking and entering. Eli had from the earliest age felt a curiosity to know what is behind closed doors. On many occasions, she would sneak into her brother's room and her parents' closets, break into locked classrooms, and be fetched out of the gardens of various neighbours. As she grew older, Eli learned to use her skill of observation to not get caught so often.

Being the second child of a poor household meant that Elliot grew accustomed to hand-me-downs and second-hand items. Although her parents tried their best, most money that they could scrape together would go into a fund to treat her brother's sleeping disorders. Not that they ever had enough in that fund. On her twelfth birthday, Eli and a few friends went to the mall with some birthday money her parents had scraped up. As they browsed the shelves of a clothing store, her two best friends nudged Eli to pocket a pair of sunglasses she liked but couldn't afford. Elliot refused and turned to leave - she was no one to fall into peer pressure - when she saw an old lady leave her wallet behind on one of the shelves. It was a split-second decision and she would later not be able to answer why she did it. Maybe out of curiosity? Just to see if she could?

Without thinking, she put the money into the fund for her brother's treatment, went to her room and did what she does best: She researched. Having had no personal computer, Eli had always used libraries, a safe haven for the young girl. But no matter how much she researched, the adrenaline kick would continue to urge her to do it again. Every day she saw people having all those excessive luxuries while her family was just trying to get by. So the jar got fuller and fuller until her parents asked too many questions and it finally stopped. Instead, Eli would spend years collecting money, selling "trinkets" she stole, and avoiding the attention of authorities. Her entire thing blew up when she was 15 and her parents confronted her about the heaps of money and items they had found in her hidden spot after a long time of suspicion. The confrontation escalated, much to Eli's own fault, and her life took a swift turn. Her brother had moved out a while ago and while her parents tried their best, Eli wasn't exactly "easy" to parent. Though she stopped stealing, she did not stop getting mixed with the "wrong crowd". Still very much breaking and entering, she would spend a lot of nights in abandoned places, on graveyards, in churches, and other places. Unfortunately, that were just the places people would go for alcohol and drug abuse. Elliot gladly involved herself with some members of those crowds, staying away from the creepy and very addictive types, she engaged in some alcohol and mild drug use such as weed.

As her teenage years passed on, Eli seemed to find her footing. She went to college and graduated top of her class. With four languages (English, German, Greek, Latin) under her belt and a degree in journalism, Elliot seemed to finally be on the right path. After college, she spent about eight years working as a journalist for various media outlets, freelancing some time, and writing blog entries about her varied research topics. It was through the press work that she met Helena.

Truth be told, Elliot had never fully stopped keeping her fingers still. Although much stealthier now, she would still find her way into closed quarters, mostly unoccupied, and let a thing or two slip into her pockets whenever she felt the need.

While she was working on a 'case' ("It's not a story if we're trying to unearth something, that's a case.") involving seemingly unconnected deaths, Elliot made use of one of her sleepless weeks in which she would disappear for a week or two and barely sleep, staying alive by energy drinks, coffee and ordering Indian masala, she found a vague connection. A woman named Helena. However, despite doing her best Eli could not find an address linked to the woman, and any place Eli found she had been, she seemed to not return to again. Needless to say, Elliot developed a true obsession with finding this woman, opening that "door" that seemed to be just out of reach.

It was during an evening after a few too many sleepless nights that Eli got careless and was caught slipping a man's wallet into her pockets as she passed him by. As she turned the next corner, a black-haired woman confronted her. And so Eli met Helena Blythe. Apparently just as much a curious soul, Helena quickly managed to wrap Eli around her fingers with her mysterious bad-girl demeanor. Flirtingly offering to report Elliot to the police, Helena bargained she could use her help in return for keeping quiet.

It took some time and convincing and some heavy questioning on both parties' ends but eventually Elliot was convinced Helena had nothing to do with those deaths she was 'investigating' and Helena was convinced Eli would provide what she was looking for. Elliot, enticed by the woman, fell quickly - and hard. And Helena opened the door to a new kind of lifestyle, one Eli had not thought she would return to. Thus began Eli's time as a true criminal.

She quickly picked up her old skills and found a sort of teacher and companion in the strange woman. Now targeting much bigger fish, Eli and Helena made thievery their main source of income. Living in a "Bonnie and Clyde" fantasy, Elliot felt untouchable with Helena by her side. It was Helena who introduced Eli to the idea of the supernatural. Through extensive research and breadcrumbs by Helena, Elliot finally found that the world was much darker than she had thought. What followed were years of extensive research on those creatures. Eli got sucked into a web of arcane symbols, mages, monsters, faeries, ghosts, and necromancy.

And after five years of living with Helena, the dream collapsed. Helena woke Elliot up, clearly panicked, and urged her to get out of the flat through a secret exit Elliot had not known about. As Eli fought to get Helena to answer, the woman begged her to leave, pressed a necklace into Eli's hand and promised she would explain everything. Hiding in the secret exit, Eli witnessed three vampires raging and destroying their home as they attacked Helena with questions Eli could not fully comprehend. Only when physically attacked did Helena fight back - and bared her teeth. Eli left her home that night with two truths: Helena had been a vampire all along, and she was responsible for the deaths that were occurring, the same ones that took her brother's patients as well as those she had researched five years ago.

In fear and disarray, Eli went back to the house a week later after having heard nothing from Helena. But every evidence of her existence was gone, right down to the toothbrush. Afraid of what she might find, Eli researched more sporadically. She had moments where she would do nothing but dig for 3 months to then fall into a hole where she wanted to burn everything and never think of Helena Blythe again.

But the truth was that she could not settle for being left in the dark. And the truth was that she had loved Helena, that she still loved Helena. And Eli knows that she is still out there. And Helena needs her help.

It's been a year since Helena was taken and Eli has not gotten a single step closer to finding her or those who took her. It is time to invest in some help. And so Eli ended up in Baltimore, joining a Cell to hopefully figure out more about why monsters do what they do, why they exist, how they live, and why some seem so... human.

After college, she spent about eight years working as a journalist for various media outlets, freelancing some time, and writing blog entries about her varied research topics. It was through the press work that she met Helena.

Truth be told, Elliot had never fully stopped keeping her fingers still. Although much stealthier now, she would still find her way into closed quarters, mostly unoccupied, and let a thing or two slip into her pockets whenever she felt the need.

While she was working on a 'case' ("It's not a story if we're trying to unearth something, that's a case.") involving seemingly unconnected deaths, Elliot made use of one of her sleepless weeks in which she would disappear for a week or two and barely sleep, staying alive by energy drinks, coffee and ordering Indian masala, she found a vague connection. A woman named Helena. However, despite doing her best Eli could not find an address linked to the woman, and any place Eli found she had been, she seemed to not return to again. Needless to say, Elliot developed a true obsession with finding this woman, opening that "door" that seemed to be just out of reach.

It was during an evening after a few too many sleepless nights that Eli got careless and was caught slipping a man's wallet into her pockets as she passed him by. As she turned the next corner, a black-haired woman confronted her. And so Eli met Helena Blythe. Apparently just as much a curious soul, Helena quickly managed to wrap Eli around her fingers with her mysterious bad-girl demeanor. Flirtingly offering to report Elliot to the police, Helena bargained she could use her help in return for keeping quiet.

It took some time and convincing and some heavy questioning on both parties' ends but eventually Elliot was convinced Helena had nothing to do with those deaths she was 'investigating' and Helena was convinced Eli would provide what she was looking for. Elliot, enticed by the woman, fell quickly - and hard. And Helena opened the door to a new kind of lifestyle, one Eli had not thought she would return to. Thus began Eli's time as a true criminal.

She quickly picked up her old skills and found a sort of teacher and companion in the strange woman. Now targeting much bigger fish, Eli and Helena made thievery their main source of income. Living in a "Bonnie and Clyde" fantasy, Elliot felt untouchable with Helena by her side. It was Helena who introduced Eli to the idea of the supernatural. Through extensive research and breadcrumbs by Helena, Elliot finally found that the world was much darker than she had thought. What followed were years of extensive research on those creatures. Eli got sucked into a web of arcane symbols, mages, monsters, faeries, ghosts, and necromancy.

And after five years of living with Helena, the dream collapsed. Helena woke Elliot up, clearly panicked, and urged her to get out of the flat through a secret exit Elliot had not known about. As Eli fought to get Helena to answer, the woman begged her to leave, pressed a necklace into Eli's hand and promised she would explain everything. Hiding in the secret exit, Eli witnessed three vampires raging and destroying their home as they attacked Helena with questions Eli could not fully comprehend. Only when physically attacked did Helena fight back - and bared her teeth. Eli left her home that night with two truths: Helena had been a vampire all along, and she was responsible for the deaths that were occurring, the same ones that took her brother's patients as well as those she had researched five years ago.

In fear and disarray, Eli went back to the house a week later after having heard nothing from Helena. But every evidence of her existence was gone, right down to the toothbrush. Afraid of what she might find, Eli researched more sporadically. She had moments where she would do nothing but dig for 3 months to then fall into a hole where she wanted to burn everything and never think of Helena Blythe again.

But the truth was that she could not settle for being left in the dark. And the truth was that she had loved Helena, that she still loved Helena. And Eli knows that she is still out there. And Helena needs her help.

It's been a year since Helena was taken and Eli has not gotten a single step closer to finding her or those who took her. It is time to invest in some help. And so Eli ended up in Baltimore, joining a Cell to hopefully figure out more about why monsters do what they do, why they exist, how they live, and why some seem so... human.

Helena Blythe: Elliot's former lover and partner-in-crime (literally) who turned out to be a vampire responsible for multiple deaths in Brooklyn. She was kidnapped by three vampires and has not been heard from since.

Feature Request Thread

I'm not sure whether this would work but I'd like to have the option to create unpublished threads so that I can work on an OOC until its good and then decide to publish it. So far I've always been keeping all that in my PMs until I'm ready to post it into an OOC and while this work around is OK, it'd be more convenient to just have a thread only I can see until I publish it.
