So it looks like a tie right now between big dancing queen Anetha and smol precious Myris. I'll break the tie with a coin toss after finishing the official thread or if new players come in and break the tie with their votes :)

On the subject of unique characters, I began to create a character concept paying homage to "the Barefoot Goddess" and the Arabian theme here with the Lord of War, but I'm a bit unclear if that would work out if there's a different patron god for Aladia. Can characters draw power from a different god than their own, or should I wait to hear the final verdict on who Aladia's God will be before I go off on a tangent?

Your powers don't need to correlate to the patron deity. Our god basically acts like a magic battery empowering the entire kingdom and your magic can be whatever fits your character ^^
Since people are reserving spots. I'll take the Lord of Coin.

Reserved for Lord of Gold~ Please pick a god for our kingdom :)

Oh! Question (sorry for adding a new post, I just felt this should be seperate.) Can Lords have their own vassals? Like, could the Lord of War have a handful of generals and such that are responsible for different parts of the wall? I feel some level of delegation is involved in the duties of these influential individuals.

Yes, this is the plan all along! Now that the four lords have been reserved, other interested players can make characters in roles working under any of the lords. We can also freely create unique NPCs to flesh out the kingdom as we go along.
NGL: this looks amazing. If I wasn't already (too) full on RPGs, I'd join up in a heartbeat.

Thank you for the kind thoughts! That's too bad that you're already full up on rps, but we'll be open if your schedule changes.

Do the Lords have utter control of their respective sectors?

Yes they do. Although they also have to advise the king and let him handle major decisions. But they practically run the show day-to-day.

i wanna be the lord of stone and take care of the fluffy godbeast

Lord of Stone is reserved! Also, which god do you want to vote for?

Can I be the Lord of Law and have evil character glasses

I'm interested in what you have in mind, but remember we're the "good guys" in this story. Lord of Law is reserved!

Every 100,000 years, the lush and beautiful world of Adamah is gradually reduced to an endless ocean of sand, heralding the beginning of a great race to usher in a new world order. Kings and their empires—existing as grand circular city-states—pledge allegiance to a new god or goddess slumbering inside a divine labyrinth housed within their cities. Those who manage to present a Writ of Kings before their god is bound to a sacred duty: journey to the opposite end of the world and find the Last Oasis—hallowed land of gods—wherein their patron deity will remake Adamah according to the vision of the successful sovereign. And that ruler shall henceforth be crowned Sultan: king of kings, and their dynasty shall last for 100,000 years until the next cycle.

Alas, this is a competition, for all manners of kings will compete to be the first to find the Last Oasis. In carrying out this lengthy mission, alliances will form and wars will be waged to determine the most worthy of kingdoms. But a king alone will not change the course of their destiny, they must appoint four Lords—their most trusted and powerful allies—to help guide them and the empire onto the path of victory. With assistance from gargantuan creatures known as Godbeasts, the kings and their chosen lords navigate the wide, open world in their moving cities toward their goal.

The flamboyant pirate Suleiman arrives at a partially abandoned city—long fallen as an empire—with plans to find the god residing within the city's labyrinth. With a Writ of Kings in his possession, he seeks to establish the kingdom of Aladia and join the great race. But first, he must seek willing allies for his ambitions...

A grand, world-spanning, fantastical adventure begins here!

⬦ This is an Anime-style RP, first and foremost, so all aesthetic choices should be made with that in mind.

⬦ What was once a beautiful planet with a diversity of biomes has been transformed into an endless desert sea due to some ancient magic shenanigans. This cycle happens every 100,000 years. Adamahn recorded history tells us there have been at least four cycles before. There are many pockets of oases spread throughout the world but other typical bodies of water are basically nonexistent. This is a high fantasy world that utilizes magic and martial weapons. Early blunderbusses and flintlocks exist as well as cannons for city defense. Humans are the predominant sentient race and I have no current plans to introduce other races but, if you have ideas, don't be afraid to go for it.

⬦ Kings—with the help of their chosen four lords—rule city-state empires with the ability to move about on the sand sea thanks to being pulled by massive Godbeasts that swim underneath the sand. Every city is circular in its general layout with infrastructure built upon a massive foundation that doubles as the city walls. While our main kingdom of Aladia is essentially Arabian-themed, other kingdoms can vary wildly in their aesthetics and culture. Each city also contains a labyrinth where a god or goddess resides.

⬦ A god's ultimate goal is to recreate the world once they're brought to the Last Oasis. After which, a new god will take their place in the empty labyrinth to await the next 100,000 years. The patron god of a kingdom is its primary source of magic (known as Miracles). Individuals possessing the blood of ancients (regardless of class or status) are granted the ability to channel Miracles once a god awakens. Another important source of magic are Regalia: sacred treasures imbued with latent Miracles from gods present and past.

⬦ You can create any character you want as long as it doesn't break any established lore and the character must be part of the Aladian empire. I am looking for players to fill the four main roles of the kingdom's Lords. Details of the roles will be listed below. Note that a lord's combat prowess is independent of their role. Other than that, you are free to make other types of citizens for the kingdom as well. Just ask if you're unsure of an idea.

  • Lord of Law: Responsible for the legal and diplomatic ventures of the kingdom, and ensures it runs smoothly on a daily basis.
  • Lord of War: In charge of all military and defense-related sectors as well as keeping the public peace of the empire.
  • Lord of Gold: Oversees the economic prosperity of the kingdom as well as its spending activities. Finds ways to fund the empire.
  • Lord of Stone: Manages all construction, upkeep, and city planning that is deemed necessary. Also in charge of general husbandry for the kingdom's Godbeast.

When it comes to magic, Miracles can exist in a variety of ways that would fit a high fantasy setting. Because of the Anime nature of this RP, I encourage you to think creatively in how your character's magic is presented and used. Be sure to keep thematic consistency however! A character with a hodge-podge assortment of magic (unless it's intentional) will likely be disregarded.

Help choose the god or goddess that will be representing the kingdom of Aladia! If you're interested in participating in this RP, note your interest down below and mention which god you think our empire should help win the race to the Last Oasis. Here are a few details regarding each candidate:

Leodegrance of the Sacred Flame: God of purifying fires, conquest, metalwork, and hooved beasts. A handsome god with features both human and animalistic in nature. His calm persona hides a quiet ferocity underneath, and is considered quite wise. His third eye grants him true sight, and he is able to burn away all deceit and reveal all truths. He deftly wields a giant seven-branched sword. Is is said that he will recreate the world by weaving raging infernos and great firestorms to melt the world of sand into glass, revealing the way forward to constructs of the future. The sacred flames that he creates will not harm humans, plants, or animals.

Anetha the Barefoot Goddess: Goddess of war, dance, eternity, and flowers. She is a giant who is typically represented as being at least 100 feet tall. She is serene and mysterious, as well as gentle and motherly. With every step she takes, flowers bloom in her wake. She leads armies into battle by dancing; shaking the enemy's resolve with her tremoring steps. It is said that she will recreate the world by growing so tall that her outstretched hand can pierce the heavens, and she will then dance across the world for 100 days and 100 nights, covering the earth in new greenery.

Myris the Lunarian: Goddess of crystals and precious gems, water, moon phases, and scaled beasts. A crystalline goddess that can fit in one's palm, she is believed to have come from the moon and is half fairy and half dragon. She is reserved and timid, preferring to hide herself behind a large crystal droplet. Her tears can heal all wounds and her aura gives off a soothing presence. It is said she will recreate the world by calling upon showers of rain that shine like gems to wash away the sand and, in its place, will be fertile soil.

Zu-Alzif the Blind God: God of light, absolute law, and time. This red-skinned, mechanical god has no eyes. He is devoid of emotion and favors logical approaches to things. He teaches science to the devout. He is able to grow four additional arms, a second head behind the first, and wields a variety of weapons and treasures. It is said that he will recreate the world by bathing it in warm rays of light from the heavens. The sand that is touched by the light will revert in time until it's erased from existence.

'A' Train - Fifth Car | Interactions: @Dead Cruiser @Chezka

Nyx watches silently as Sekhandur rises from his seat, still defiantly arrogant in his demeanor. He mutters something about benefiting as much from this 'lesson' as he did with any other ones from Nyx. The latter simply smirks, satisfied. "Bark all you'd like. You'll still follow my orders like an obedient dog." Nyx tells him with his arms crossed. "Arrogance without talent is simply foolishness. Your lofty sandcastle will be swept by the wind yet, little 'Prince'." After that, Nyx saw no need in continuing this interaction any longer. As of now, he sees nothing of value in the imperious royal. Despite her haughtiness, even Alberta has proven herself a hard worker and earnest about her studies. Smug and lazy, oil and water. Best not to waste precious seconds on such trifling matters.

As Nyx is about to take his seat, he is approached by the all-too-gentle Yvaine who greets him with a particularly pious salutation. "Most people would say 'good morning'." Nyx says in hope of teaching her to adjust better to her current environment. Yvaine gives him a determined stare, as if she's trying to relay to him a message. Honestly, Nyx couldn't even begin to read into whatever it is she's thinking. A sweat drop nearly appears on his forehead. This girl is an odd one, or maybe Nyx is. Either way, Nyx doesn't know how to respond, but he does take a more gentler approach with her than the others. "I'm going to take my seat now..." He simply tells her before walking away.

Sitting down, Nyx crosses his arms and stares longingly out the widow at the passing vista; daydreaming of a life that could've been instead of the one that currently is.

Genelogia - Outskirts | Interactions: @Relin @metanoia

The 'A' train pulls into a tiny, almost seemingly abandoned station on the outskirts of the colossal city-state that is Genelogia. It's easy to tell this derelict outpost sees little use; even the benches—little in number as they are—are covered in a noticeable layer of dust. This is truly the beginning of podunk nowhere. A steward steps out of the train car and directs the class outside before making his way back in. None else but Class-C will be stopping their journey here it seems, not that it's any surprise. Soon, the train takes off, leaving to greet Class-C once more in about three day's time.

Nyx produces a map and checks for the location of the scenic, nameless little village they are to rendezvous at. "The northern trail, along the river..." he mutters to himself. Folding the map and putting it back into his pack, he looks to the class. "Come along, and stick close. We've a five mile trek ahead of us. Ty, you'll stick to the front seeing as how you're familiar with this sort of environment. Caelum, cover the rear." Nyx orders. In a place as remote as this, Nyx wouldn't count on there being many signposts to direct their way.

And so they walked, and walked, and walked. The forest thicket impeded much of their visibility but, other than that, the trek was proving quite uneventful. Soon, they found the river that was mentioned in the map and followed its stream upward. They stopped midway along the river bank and to take a brief respite, but Nyx was adamant in moving along as fast as possible. For a mage, Nyx proved to be rather physically resilient with seemingly endless stamina. Not once did he seem tired of the endless walk as he led the class forward. Guess such a thing was to be expected of a former Miracle Seven.

Then, things took an absolutely bizarre turn. "What's this...?" The trees in the distance: their leaves displayed hues of red and yellow, colors of the fall. But, that couldn't be. Clearly it's springtime on the continent. Nyx looks back over his shoulder and sees the line of green trees separating from the Autumn ones. Magic? Nyx is swift in focusing his thoughts to detect any strange lingering mana in the air. It's faint but something is there. An impressive thing to hide from someone so attuned with mana. The students would completely fail to pick it up even if they try their hardest.

"This is the work of magic. Temporal, maybe. Hard to tell. It doesn't feel 'powerful', but its composition is unusual enough that even I'm having difficulties sussing it out." Nyx explains. As he said, it's unusual but not particularly threatening. They should check out the village first before deciding what to do next. Did the city guards come across this as they secured the routes leading in and out of the area? If so, no one from Avalice was informed.

Some time later, they finally arrived at their destination: a nameless village probably home to less than three hundred people. The clearing that housed the village is bordered on all sides by the strange Autumn trees, as if this entire area exists in some temporal phenomenon. The village itself is quiet with barely anyone moving about. Some homes are boarded up from outside by faint light can be seen from within. Then, the class sees one of the villagers. Various parts of his body are plagued by bark-like growths, like that of a tree. He moved so sluggishly and his face seems vacant.
It's not an arc, the train part is just a vehicle to get us to the next plot point, but it's like I've explained, I've been pretty busy so excuse my stalling of the plot.

Anyway, if there are no objections, I'll try to get a post up tomorrow or Monday at the latest.
Hey everyone, sorry I haven't been around. Life's gotten pretty busy.

Unfortunately enough so that I can't handle this RP right now (I already have another one going for a while plus life's gotten busier). I do apologize for bowing out right before we could get any traction. Maybe I'll return to this concept some day but for now, thank you for all of your interest thus far.
Sorry everyone for disappearing for a bit. Had a pretty busy few days irl. Small post for now as I'm still a bit occupied but I will advance the plot once I get a response post from @Dead Cruiser. Just continue with character interactions for now. Make some more friends (or enemies) with your classmates.

'A' Train - Fifth Car | Interactions: @Dead Cruiser

Nyx's inquiry as to the whereabouts of Sekhandur, Alberta, and Kress would swiftly be answered by the sudden appearance of the students in question. Before Nyx could get a word in, Mandi began teasing the other tardy mages not named Sekhandur to which Kress corrected the misunderstanding with an excuse. Ty attempts to corroborate the story with an all-too-blatant lie, but, honestly, Nyx didn't care at this point. "Take a seat. All of you." he dismissed. Uh-oh. His tone of voice seems calm enough, but there certainly is a hint of seething wrath behind it. He turns to face Sekhandur who had already taken a seat without Nyx's permission. "Stand up." he tells the wayward prince in a commanding voice.

"You'd think that with the amount of effort you put into your training these past couple of weeks that you'd be more rested." Nyx says, referring to his yawn from earlier and his general apathy for Nyx's instruction.

"Also, 'right on time,' was it? Instead of a watch, perhaps you should invest in a change of attitude. Here's what's going to happen. For the duration of this train ride, you will stand in the back. Don't even think about taking a seat. Don't think about ordering any food either. Failure to do so will result in your immediate expulsion. Understood?" Nyx definitely isn't kidding around. Even before Sekhandur can answer, the train's whistle blew and they begin to depart from the station. Usually, the force of a train taking off could put just about anyone off balance if they were standing, but Nyx stood absolutely still, seeming unaffected by it as he continues to stare down Sekhandur.

Honestly, Alberta and Kress got off easy. Fortunately for them, they were sensible enough not to piss Nyx off even despite their tardiness. It's a three hour ride to their destination. Three long hours if this is any indication.
