Barbie: a provocative piece that shows the disparity in gender roles in today's society using the representation and marketing schemes of children's toys as a medium. Oppenheimer: bomb bad ☢️ 👎

Malphas
that one chris pratt scene from jurassic world
@Rune_Alchemist

Searching for a plant was a simple enough job, especially given its location. This meant Malphas would be killing two birds with one stone, assuming this temple was the very same place he needed to go to. In other words, this was more or less a breeze across these snowy woodlands, the softness of the snow allowing for a rather unimpeded journey. Malphas hummed a nice traveler's song to himself, enjoying the wonders of nature.

Of course, this meant that he would actually not notice his pursuers until it was far too late.

Realizing these strange, feathered raptors surrounding him, Malphas froze in his tracks, caught like a deer in headlights. His smile became increasingly more awkward the more he realized just what sort of position he was in, his eyes landing on each of them as if he were taking count. One or two would have been doable, three would have been a fight with some chances, and four would have been a rough time... but five? They didn't seem well engaged on him, yet, so perhaps Malphas could just ask these lizard birds to go away?

Malphas took a deep breath, but before he filled his lungs with the same magical energy he had done so earlier, he recalled the fox merchant's words once more. Ah, perhaps such charms don't work against animals as well? Or perhaps whatever he would say to them would have some unintended consequences. In any case, Malphas resolved to do something else with his held breath...

"Look over there! Is that a bear?!" Malphas shouted as he pointed his finger at a certain direction. He wasn't sure if these beasts would fall for such treachery considering his lack of experience with animals, but it was still a chance he needed to take. Whether they leaped back from his sudden loud voice and movements, actually turned around, or just got angrier, Malphas would manifest his wings of faith once more. He would then fill his legs with magical energy, leaping into the treeline!

Hopefully, these raptors were bad climbers, and hopefully, their wings weren't as suitable for flying...

A Chance Encounter
@Rune_Alchemist@PaulHaynek@Guy0fV4lor

Humming to himself as he exited the tent, Malphas clutched his now useful bow tightly, excited to finally use it. Overall, he seemed pretty happy with the arrangement. Fetching things in the woods sounded like a cakewalk! Granted, Malphas had never stepped foot in the woods in his past life... Oh, what's there to worry? He's the Goddess's chosen, after all!

A sudden grasp on his shoulder, however, was more than enough to cause Malphas to stir once more. The last time he was grasped in such a matter, he was given a strange stone and an unsettling memory. Malphas was not keen with dealing with that hag again, not while he was in such a good mood! Grasping his new bow with both hands, he shoved the long end of it roughly towards his supposed assailant!

To Donovan, it seemed that Malphas was paying him back for the gift he had given him the day before... Sadly, it seems his payment was also deposited to the same place as last time, as the end the Malphas's bow is shoved suddenly towards Donovan's Donovans.

Leaping back into an exaggerated stance once more, Malphas looked into the eyes of the hag with a fierce expression before realizing that the hag was not actually a hag...

"Donovan?! You have survived unscathed! Oh, what a joyous day, this is!" Malphas exclaimed, hugging his old friend fondly. "I have so much to catch you up on! Oh, but you and your friend must need rest, right? I have to run an errand, and time is of the essence, but if you need a place for respite, I know where you can rest your weary souls!" Malphas exclaimed, giving Nick a friendly wave of acknowledgement, before giving the both of them directions to a certain hut where he had spent the night. Surely his one-time companion wouldn't mind orienting an old friend of his, wouldn't they?

Whether they took up Malphas's offer or not was up to them, as Malphas continued towards the woods. He definitely would continue their conversation later, but for now, he mustn't keep that capricious fox waiting.
Ah, alrighty! So the general concept I had was the classic lab experiment trope. My character one of a few orphans taken into one of the big shady labs in order to raise "perfect soldiers of humanity." So his whole life, he had been both enhanced, and trained in all sorts of techniques to accomplish this. In this regard, my character would be more of a fighter than a mage, something similar to an Eldritch Knight in terms of spellcasting ability, although a bit more limited. His primary skills are with weapons, and the starweaving ability I had in mind should further show it.

The reason why he's an exorcist was it made sense that his training would include the sorts of spells that the Japanese would use against the supernatural, so things like protective talismans. Enhancement-wise, I was thinking something in the realm of the purely biological. The idea I had was something along the lines of hastened body processes. Enhanced speed, reaction time, and healing. All this was balanced by the character also possessing a fast metabolism, which requires them to eat much more than the average human.
Ahh, so an enhanced human can't also be a magically gifted human in the traditional sense, then? Had the idea of a regenerating exorcist in mind.

Malphas looked over to the fox woman, completely dumbfounded. Just what in the world was she talking about? Malphas has never even seen her before! Or... at least, he's pretty sure he hasn't. He gave her one quick glance once again, scratching his head as he tried to remember just where he might have seen her?

A metaphorical lightbulb would then appear above Malphas's head.

"Commands? Manliness? Ahhh... You're that huntress from last night, right? I remember. The stew was divine, by the way. I really love your people's sense of camaraderie! Oh, it reminds me of older times. And don't get me started on the little thing you did with your finger..."

After a few more moments of intentionally uncomfortable rambling, Malphas accepted the deal gleefully. With a flourish, Malphas began to adorn his newly acquired goods. Before he left, however, Malphas grinned slyly at the fox girl once more, making sure their eyes would meet. Once again, he would allow the magical energy that flows from his soul into his words, and direct it outwards to the merchant. It was another "command" as she put it, but it was not made with the intention of actually charming her to do anything. Instead, knowing she was somewhat immune to the effect, Malphas simply wished to acknowledge her taunts in a similar fashion.

"Whatever you so desire, I shall retrieve. Just wait patiently for my return."

Lew considered his choices for a moment, staring at each of the recruitment offices. He was about to make a choice that would kickstart his career in a certain direction. While he initially considered contacting his friends for advice, he knew that he could switch out at a later date if they all wished to form a guild. Sure, it would not be an easy endeavor, but the possibility was still open. And after all, Lew still could not bear to face them. He's tired of teaching noobs how to play, and if they won't get their composition in order, he will not adventure with them for the time being.

As far as Lew's class prospects were concerned, following the route of a warrior-priest was still on his agenda, with plans to become an Exorcist and a Kekkaishi soon after. The ability to disable and contain monster girls for his viewing pleasure was far too tempting to pass off. However, it seemed as if Lew required a proper martial class to allow him to reach his goal effectively. As much as he had gotten used to Warrior's attack patterns, he was not a fan of the inefficiency that Power Attack introduced into his tactics. Perhaps if there was an easily accessible way for him to charge it faster or allow him to perform other actions whilst charging it, he would reconsider retaining it. For now, however, he would instead seek out a different class that would allow him to do what he wished.

There were two paths in mind for Lew. One was the path of the Sohei, a path that would allow him to more easily make up for the Exorcist's apparent SP deficit. While it wasn't quite suited for tanking, that seemed to not matter given the new shape his party was taking. The only issue was he would need to become a Monk first, which would likely slow down his progression. In that same vein, perhaps a Monk would give him a new baseline class to get used to? And he didn't have a cool katana yet as well, so perhaps unarmed combat would be a suitable alternative for a swordless wanderer like himself.

The second option was one that was much faster, and more complementary to his stats. By becoming a Samurai, Lew would more easily keep his main tank strat while also controlling the field more easily. The Samurai also seemed to encourage using a variety of different weapons, something Lew was interested in given the potential synergies between the class's branches and his nuclei. Blades, bows, and perhaps spears would serve as a proper triad of weapons to cycle through to fit a variety of situations. More importantly, the Samurai and the Kekkaishi seemed to synergize surprisingly well in theory. Create barriers around the field to tunnel lesser enemies in, then utilize the Samurai's kiai to keep them pinned. A tempting proposition to be sure.

Whatever his choice may be, it was clear to Lew that there was one clan that would allow him to meet his prerequisites. For both Samurai and Sohei, recognition from an influential Rien was required. Seeing as Lew had already built himself a reputation in the Shin-Yu Temple, the best choice would be for him to join the clan that respected the religious rites of Horogi the most. A clan that respects both spiritualism and martial arts, so that Lew may continue to grow stronger.

Lew had made his way to the San-Li recruitment office, eager to raise his standing, his power. To become stronger not out of ambition, but out of a single-minded thirst to look at monster girls.
Oh shoot, if Tokyo's got a hint of human supremacy and the like, I'll make an enhanced human, rather than a magically gifted one~

Khol looked down on his new badge of office with vague interest. Bronze didn't really suit the Half-Giant too much, so it seems he needed to rank up quickly if he wanted to upgrade into a nice silver, like his current boss. That said, having something that denotes him as more than some thug was more than welcome to him. Instinctively, he wished to bite the coin that was given to him, one of the habits his criminal cohorts once had as a means of checking the authenticity of their pilfered goods. Before he could, however, he saw that the Yanaski girl had done so first. Not desiring to follow her example, Khol instead pinned the badge to his belt, allowing it to serve as a new buckle.

A blight-storm. Khol has heard stories of such a thing in the past, but he's never seen one for himself. It seems that may continue to be the case as well, seeing as they'll only be taking care of the stragglers rather than the storm itself. To Khol, such a phenomenon was just another one of the many reasons he distrusts mages. To seek out such profane powers despite the impact it would have on the world around them... Absolutely vile. The mere thought had reminded Khol of his old father figure, and the horrible things he was put through during his formative years.

To those particularly sensitive to magic, it seemed like a silver glow surrounded Khol for a mere moment.

"Disgusting... We'll make sure there's no trace of it." Khol uttered, almost into a growl.

The strange feeling surrounding Khol dissipated just as quickly as it had appeared. It seemed that Khol himself did not notice such a change, although he did look more annoyed than he was seconds ago. The Half-Giant's attention was taken once more by Koth's comment about his sword. All he could do in response was to nod in acknowledgment, followed by a gruff "hmph." Khol never had thought of his sword as anything more than just a weapon he could use. It had been with him for a while, and it was too big for anyone else to wield, so to carry such a thing only felt sensible to him. Khol was never the type to look into the craftsmanship of the tools at his disposal, after all.

"Well, let's get to it, then? We're burning daylight here." Khol grunted, although not as viciously as before. As he turned, he placed his hands to the back of his head, letting his cranium rest as he made his way in the direction of Ayrith. He was keen on getting things started, whether his allies would follow or not, although he lagged behind just a bit for their handler to lead properly.
Thinking about it, I'll probably make a magically gifted human. One from Tokyo, since that's another notable location, for future integration once we leave New York.
