Link, because I know that's not the case. I mentioned FT, but made it clear that David was from the "Legendary Guild." Plus, the WiR never was told that it was part of the FT world.
I clearly remember someone mentioning their guild was FT and it was someone in the same guild as Serenity.
It's literally "big brother" but it's also used as a term of respect for older males that you aren't acquainted with. The female version/"big sister" is onee, and a good example of it being used non-literally is at the Olympics. You can find videos with japanese fans shouting onii or onee followed by an honorific, usually san or chan, since names are more personal in japanese culture. There's your foreignness lesson for the day. :P
