No, no, they clearly are referring to Ohio -- which Georgia is geographically south of, so the theory is still sound.

Bio

Oh, hi. Thanks for checking in.

I'm an exceedingly enthusiastic roleplayer who's been writing for about ten years now and yet still hasn't managed to produce any kind of solo piece of writing worth reading. I like to consider myself a good writer, but that's kind of a matter of opinion, as many would argue that my tendency to ramble on at entirely excessive length about things is boring rather than interesting. I'm also incredibly OCD about formatting, so if you're wondering why my bios look so fancy, that's why. It's just something I do because... reasons, I guess.

Anyway, as you've probably noticed from my avatars and RP choices, I'm more than a bit of a fan of anime and manga, but also enjoy movies, video games, the occasional comic book... the list goes on. For you see, I am not a mere dork - I am the one spoken of in legends, the one whose dorkiness transcends all forms and boundaries. I am... the Legendary... OMNI-DORK!

...Anyway, thanks for dropping in to check on my profile! Hope to RP with you sometime!

Nyanpasu~.

Asuka simply watched as the Yoshida-san returned to mingle with the others at the table, one eyebrow raising slightly as he left. And who exactly is 'Asuka-chan?' She thought dryly. Maybe that's the reason why he seemed so close to sis - he's just overly friendly with everyone. And yet, it still seemed like he... No, I guess I'm just imagining it. Well, whatever. Even if nothing will come of it, then it's not my problem anyhow. Shrugging and dismissing the notion, she herself slipped into place across from her sister just in time to overhear some inane remark about samurai-ninjas. What the hell was she going on about now, and - woah, who was that? Asuka prided herself on her distinguishing taste, but even she had to admit right off the bat, that the man talking to her sister was... Well... Extremely hot.

And he was even acting so polite, too! He actually went to the trouble of answering such a stupid question, even though it seemed obvious enough to her that he wanted out of the conversation as soon as possible. Her sister was her responsibility, she supposed... so why not save him from having to deal with her?

"Hey, sis," She interjected just as Fumika was opening her mouth to say something to the boy, who was already looking away and clearly wanted no part of this. "What should we do after dinner? You've already finished moving into your room, right?" Fumika nodded absentmindedly, but didn't even dignify her question with a spoken response. That stupid tuft of hair wasn't moving either - just poking ever-so-slightly up from amidst the mess that was her sister's mane. Had that main character idiot really managed to figure her out based on that stupid thing? No matter how she looked at it, it didn't seem to be moving.

Whatever. Her stupid sister's attention diverted, Asuka didn't miss the chance to shoot the boy opposite her a wry, apologetic grin. She couldn't help but feel sorry for him. Whatever he'd been expecting to deal with, it couldn't have been this.

Haruka couldn't hide her outward discomfort at the incredibly direct manner in which she found herself being questioned. Her first instinct was to immediately shut down... whoever this Kasuke person was, as it didn't seem to be any business of her own, but she thankfully managed to compose herself before she could instinctively yell in the other girl's face to get lost. No, she couldn't just dismiss this problem, for multiple reasons. Firstly, she didn't want to cause any more trouble for Fumi than she already had, but more importantly... What exactly was this girl's relationship with Jett, anyway? It didn't take a genius detective like herself to realize that the girl's icy demeanor and sudden broaching of the unwelcome topic probably had a common cause... And considering what she'd just seen...

"Oh my god," Haruka cursed under her breath in English, rubbing her forehead. "This day really can't get any more annoying, can it? Fine, maybe I'll answer your questions, but in exchange, I want you to explain some things to me. Judging by the fact that you seem to know him so well, you're his classmate, right? So, then, te-" She got no further before suddenly, a very rotund boy shuffled up and stammered something about cake. Mentally, Haruka cursed once again, and didn't know whether she should lament or thank her bizarre luck. On the one hand, she didn't have to answer a question she really wasn't keen on dealing with right now, but on the other, she also wouldn't get answers to any of her questions. The weight in her chest and gloom she felt weren't just going to go away if she didn't think about them... But right now, she couldn't think about them, so that didn't matter.

"Yes! Cake sounds just great!" She declared quite suddenly, realizing only too late that she'd let far too much of her frustration show on her face as she rounded on the meek boy - not even to mention the unintentionally hostile tone of her voice. She cleared her throat rather awkwardly, clacking her crutch against her artificial leg to distract herself as she restored her composure as best she could. "...What kind of cake is it?" She asked, trying and failing to sound casual as if she'd just make some small talk and clear the air.

Fumika frowned, her gaze darting back and forth between the others at the table. Her sister was glaring at her like she'd done something wrong... Had it been something she'd said? She'd just been trying to make friends, and wasn't sure what she'd said to make her angry... She must have done something stupid or annoying, though, because otherwise, why would Asuka be looking at her like she had on that day when-

She tugged feebly at the ends of her hair. This day had been so confusing. She'd thought she'd made a lot of friends, so she'd been happy, but now that she thought about it, it seemed like she'd just messed up everything and bothered everyone. Of course, she couldn't change things so drastically over the course of a single day, and yet...

Asuka had asked her a question, but try though she might, she couldn't answer it. Why was she asking Fumika to decide? Of course she had no idea what it would be best for them to do next... She just did what she was supposed to do, and followed the simplest path. Deciding things was hard. She'd only end up getting it wrong. Asuka must have known that, so she wasn't expecting her to answer, right? That was why she was glaring at her, because she knew she couldn't answer... But then what could she do about that? Apologize? Right, she should have apologized. She was just an inconvenience to her sister, after all, and had made her come all this way... But when she opened her mouth, she couldn't find the right words, either. There were so many people saying so many different things. Her voice only would have been drowned out. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Yoshida glancing at her from the opposite end of the table. Her ahoge wobbled hopefully, but swiftly flopped back over a moment later as she remembered his earlier words. Right... He wouldn't want her to bother him either...

She lowered her head, staring down at her bowl and fidgeting awkwardly with her chopsticks with one hand while tugging at the fringe of her hair with the other, rubbing it against her cheek for whatever reassurance she could get. She nibbled uncertainly on the food that had been given her. It was good, and she was hungry... But even eating seemed difficult for some reason. This day had been so long and complicated, and she was just so tired, and she didn't want to bother anyone and yet things like this kept happening and her sister was probably still glaring at her and... and...

...And although she didn't know why, she just really wished all of a sudden that she'd been seated on the opposite end of the table, next to Yoshida. He didn't have to talk to her. He didn't have to even acknowledge that she was there. She wouldn't bother him or anything. Just being next to him and out of Asuka's sight would be enough. If she was with him, she could relax.

But that, of course, was out of the question, so she didn't budge and inch, and simply tried to pretend she had the heart to keep eating while wishing that this day would just end already. She wasn't sure if it could really be called a new kind of "Wanting," but... Motome Fumika had no desire to experience a feeling so complex as this ever again.

Personal History

Barring a certain incident, Haku has lived a relatively uneventful life.

Born in the seaside town of Kamakura just 50 kilometers outside of Tokyo, Haku was raised by a single mother in a small apartment. From an early age, she assumed responsibility for taking care of herself, freeing up time for her mother's busy schedule. She cleaned, cooked, and did other such chores for herself, but, unlike other children her age, seldom complained about these obligations. After all, this was just the way things were, and her mother was counting on her to help. Being praised made her happy, so she did her best.

When she began public school, things became a little harder. At first, she tried to balance her duties with the new possibilities that were open to her, and so spent a little time with some of her classmates trying out the games they enjoyed and the like. However, with even more responsibilities came less time for herself, and she needed to hurry home right after class so as to get back before it was dark out. After all, she didn't want to worry her mother. So, when most children her age would have been busy making friends with their classmates and playing together after school, Haku soon stopped interacting regularly with anyone. After all, she didn't have time for such things. She had to make sure that the apartment was clean, the laundry was done, and dinner was ready so that her mother would be able to rest when she got home in the evening.

As she grew older, it slowly began to dawn on her that perhaps this was different from the way things normally were. She grew aware of a sense of separation from the people around her, and came to understand what it meant to be jealous. It must have been nice to have people to talk to whenever you wanted, she thought. It must have been nice to play games and spend time together. But, much though she might desire such things for herself, there just wasn't time. It was alright. She wasn't alone, after all, because her mother was still counting on her.

That is, until the accident. One day, while riding with her mother on a rare outing, a little bit of random misfortune finally struck Haku's formerly mundane life. Not paying enough attention to cross-traffic, Haku's mother pulled out into a seemingly empty intersection and was blindsided by a car coming from the opposite direction which slammed into the passenger side, crumpling it in and leveraging the already turning car to send it rolling. By the time ambulances arrived on the scene, a small crowd had gathered and had helped to flip their car. However, although they'd pulled her mother and the passengers of the other card from the wreck, Haku herself was trapped inside for considerably longer, as the frame of the car had caved in all around her. When emergency workers called to her, she didn't respond, and it was feared that she had been crushed completely. And yet, miraculously, when the debris was finally pulled off from on top of her, it was found that she'd somehow survived with just a few broken bones, lacerations, and other surface-level trauma.

All those caught in the accident were rushed to the hospital, where her mother and both of the passengers of the car they'd hit were stabilized despite injuries of varying severity. The driver of the other car died in the accident, however, and Haku's mother had been partially crippled by the accident, as damage to her lower spine paralyzed her below the waist. Between this and her other injuries, she was bedridden for several months, and couldn't return to her former life afterward. She was moved to an assisted living community, with the expenses covered by her insurance. As her mother could no longer provide for her, it was agreed that Haku would be transferred into the custody of her estranged father - a man she'd hardly even met before.

Haku herself woke from her unconsciousness rather quickly, but spent a few days in a confused state. She didn't seem to recognize the faces of the classmates who came to visit her, talked to herself, and occasionally devolved into nonsensical babble. At one point, she had a full blown panic attack, and it was feared that she'd had a complete psychological break. However, after a few days of confusion and disorientation, she gradually came to her senses. When her injuries had finished healing, and after extensive psychological evaluation, was deemed both physically and mentally sound.

After a few more days spent as a ward of the hospital, her father finally came to collect her. The two didn't speak much, but there was no arguing or quarreling between them, either. Without any objections, Haku left her hometown and moved to Tokyo. Although she initially feared that sharing a house with a parent she'd never before spoken to would be a difficult situation, thankfully, her father was a busy man. As such, her manner of living wasn't too different from the quiet home life she was used to.

However, her school life was significantly different. Although she'd never been particularly socially active, at the very least, she knew some of her classmates by name and occasionally spoke to them. As she hadn't been able to move before the start of the school year, however, she began her first year of junior high as a stranger and an outcast. Without any knowledge of the city or of any of the people around her, she already had a significant hurdle to overcome. However, the ch
anges she began to undergo in the aftermath of the accident were what truly doomed her.

Her hair went silver - presumed to be from the trauma - but her eyes almost seemed to have changed colors too. Her skin became pale, and the once peaceable but cheerful girl became gloomy and distant, occasionally spacing out completely as if she'd fallen asleep standing up, and experiencing unaccountable mood swings. Unable to control her own behavior, she was soon ostracized by her peers. Things only grew worse with the start of high school, as she began to experience brief patches of utter obliviousness where she couldn't remember what she'd been doing for increasingly large periods of time. Sometimes, she got into arguments with people she didn't really know, and after the fact couldn't remember why she'd been so angry at them. Terrified of being called crazy, she kept quiet about these and other, similar experiences. But, even so, her behavior was simply too strange. Her silence did little to stop the rumors that began to form about the emotionless, arrogant girl who flaunted herself and dressed like a skank, then faked innocence and obliviousness, or about the girl who was so stupid that she didn't pay attention to anything around her and lived like a sleepwalker. Bit by bit, her classmates went from avoiding her to despising her, and there was nothing she could do but simply avoid the confrontations that had become inevitable.

Somewhere along the line, Haku began to experiment with a wide array of hobbies she'd never really considered before, trying to find things to distract her from the mundane routine into which her life had settled. And, although she'd never admit it, perhaps she was trying too late to find something she might have in common with other people. Ultimately, she settled upon a rather unlikely choice: a simple card game, known as World's End. It wasn't really because she was hooked, or anything like that. It also wasn't just because the game was popular. It wasn't even because of childhood nostalgia - because she'd given this game a try once a long time ago back when she was a little kid, but had just as quickly abandoned it due to having nobody to play against, and only a few weird cards she'd picked up at a local hobby store on a whim. Rather, it was because, surprisingly enough, she seemed to have a bit of a knack for it. Strategies just seemed to spring to life in her head whenever she had the cards in her hands, as if she already knew what she was doing. She wasn't a person gifted with many natural talents, and so viewed this as a sign of sorts. If it was something she was good at... it couldn't be that bad to try, could it?

Unfortunately, in practice, it wasn't so easy. Although she could beat other beginners like herself, when she tried to challenge more experienced players in local tournaments, her initial advances were rather quickly rebuffed by a series of humiliating defeats, culminating in a terribly unfortunate matchup where she, a total amateur, was matched against the Tokyo champion in a qualifier round. She was so utterly beaten and mocked by her opponent for her inexperience, lack of focus, and vacant attitude that she was driven to temporarily give up the game - and even that wasn't enough to shake off the unwanted nickname that soon affixed itself to her - Kūhaku - thanks to the publicity of the incident. Even her classmates started calling her that, and told new students it was her name. She tried correcting them, but it spread so quickly that finally she just gave up. It wouldn't matter for much longer anyway. After all, she'd be graduating soon, and then she could leave all this behind her.

...Even so, she supposed the hated name wasn't all that inaccurate. Deep down, Haku had already started to believe that she really was just as empty as they said she was. But no matter how many times she accepted this fact, it still seemed like there was something deep down inside her, guiding her every move even if she didn't know how or why. But when had that first become a part of her? Just thinking about it made her head hazy and her heart anxious, so she soon gave up. Voices in her head and an instinct she couldn't control? Ridiculous. Nobody would believe it anyway. They'd just think she was- And really, for all she knew, she might have been crazy!

Haku just wished there was some way that it would all make sense. Then, she could go back to her quiet life, and unfounded worries she wouldn't bother her anym

Ranking and Reputation

C-Ranking. Although she's won a few local tournaments, she's far from well known as anything but a laughably pathetic speed bump on the last Tokyo champion's road to victory.

Playstyle

Haku tends to play in a defensive yet ruthless fashion. She favors utilities and main monsters that serve to reduce enemy options, negating their abilities and locking down slots so they can't be used. However, she also has a highly sacrifice-based playstyle, throwing away weaker cards and deliberately taking losses so as to wear down enemy forces alongside her own. In short, she favors a war of attrition where the enemy's kept busy with expendable targets so they can't ever target her leader and get a shot at winning - a cowardly but nevertheless effective strategy.

Miscellaneous Information

* Haku is a surprisingly tidy housekeeper, even in her current state of distraction. She's good at cooking, cleans quickly, and is generally a very organized individual.

* Her birthday is March 3rd - the same date as Hinamatsuri. Between that and her lack of friends in the past, she's never actually celebrated a birthday before.

* Her father is a career salaryman in Tokyo, while their apartment is in one of the suburbs. He often spends nights with cowokers to avoid the commute back into the heart of town, so Haku is frequently home alone.

* More may be added as it becomes revealed.

Asuka blinked as the boy explained how he'd come to meet her sister. They'd fought each other, and on the very first day? She rubbed her forehead and shook her head to herself. She couldn't imagine that ending any way but her sister getting her ass handed to her on a platter. She immediately began to re-evaluate her opinions of this boy's personality. Probably, it wasn't just because of Fumika's appearance, but rather because he'd felt guilty about winning. But as he went on, Asuka couldn't help but be surprised.

"'The timid type?'" She parroted back, and one could practically hear the air quotes. "It's not that. She just ignores anyone she doesn't feel like dealing with, cause they're 'not worth her time,' or something like that. Honestly, it's childish and stupid." The younger Motome scratched her head with a frown. Indeed, that was always the way it had been, but even so... Seeing this strangely dedicated boy made her almost want to doubt herself. Oh my god, he's even blushing. Just what did sis do to catch the eye of a guy like this?! However, while thinking these sorts of things, she couldn't help but realize something that made her almost feel sorry for the kid. After all...

"If you don't believe me, didn't she just run off back there without saying anything to you? Even though you went out of your way to help her, you just got totally ignored, didn't you?" She sighed with a shrug. "Don't take it personally, though. She's like that to everybody. I mean, I'm her sister, and she doesn't even talk to me if she can help it."

Even despite her attempts to warn him, though, the boy didn't seem any more inclined to listen than Fumika herself, and just pressed on with his questions, like asking if she was alright. How the hell was she supposed to know that? She could never tell what her sister was thinking, after all. And yet, actually, from the way he spoke, it almost seemed like...

"Wait, you can actually tell stuff like that?" Asuka blinked, seeming almost to disbelieve what she was hearing. "I mean, I guess her hair does tend to move around a little bit depending on what she's doing, but most of the time I've seen it, it just sort of hangs there, or lies flat." Or at least, that was usually the case... But it had been different when Fumika had seen Harukaze at the gate earlier, right? She'd seemed a lot more energetic than usual, but then had gone right back to normal when the fight happened... Then did that mean that this boy had figured out something she'd missed? What if...

Her surprise only grew when she heard about what had happened at lunch. Her sister - the arrogant girl who never paid anyone else any heed, had sat patiently and pathetically waiting for someone based on a misconception? She supposed that if anyone could be that oblivious, it would be her, but... But why did she care? Why was she so desperate for this boy's company? Why was it so different from how she treated everyone else - from how she treated her own sister?

She took a deep breath and shook her head. This changed everything. She'd entered this conversation with the intention of warning this boy away, but... It seemed like maybe, her original interpretations of both his and her sister's behavior towards one another might have been mistaken.

"So you already know about Harukaze-san, then. Right..." She cleared her throat. This was a pretty awkward thing to have to explain to somebody else, considering it wasn't any of her business, but... "I don't know much about what happened out there, to be honest. Looks like Harukaze-san and that blonde boy she was fighting with know each other somehow - or used to. I guess she lied about her accident to him and he got mad about it, or something like that. Seemed like Sis knew him too, though - otherwise, I can't see why she'd ever get involved in a nasty argument like that." She shook her head. "But that's neither here nor there. You'll have to forgive me for what I said earlier, but what you just told me has changed my mind. I don't know why you're special, but sis might not actually be ignoring you like I thought. I wish I could offer more than just that, but... Well, I've never really been able to get what goes on inside her head."

She took a step back and cocked her head slightly to one side with a sudden, sly grin. It wasn't really her business to meddle in stuff like this, but it wasn't like Fumika'd take any steps herself, so somebody had to do it for her.

"Well, whatever. If that's how it is, I guess it's fine. Who knows? Someone like you might be exactly the wake-up call that dense girl needs. In any case, I guess I don't mind you hanging around her, provided you're willing to put up with her... attitude." With this, Asuka turned to follow the others, although she glanced back to see if Yoshida was actually going to follow.

Of course, there was absolutely no way that idiot could actually live up to whatever this kid expected of her, and there was even less chance that he'd be able to keep her interest for long. She'd probably just get all proud and puffed up, taking it for granted that he'd fawn on her, then end up getting her hopes shattered when he inevitably got fed up and left. It would be a rude awakening to the real world, one that would finally take her stupid pride down a peg. Maybe then she'd finally stop being so insufferable. And really, it would be for her own good if she did! And, on the off-chance that it did work out between them, she'd still have to come down off her high horse and actually interact with other people. Either way, this was what was best for her stupid sister, even if she didn't realize it for herself.

So, telling herself this, Asuka proceeded in her little scheme.

Haruka raised her gloomy gaze from the ground, her countenance hardening into a stone cold poker face in an instant as she realized someone - no, two someones were addressing her. Evidently, these were some of the people who'd been present for her rather unseemly squabble outside. Haruka sighed. The girl seemed more focused on Haruka herself, and as such, probably wanted some kind of explanation for what had happened - an insatiable curiosity without regards for how Haruka herself felt. Honestly, she wanted to just send her packing, but given that she was here visiting Fumika, she had to be on her best behavior from now on. She didn't want any rumors going around about her best friend just because she herself had been insufferable.

"Harukaze Haruka," She muttered out an introduction, giving an awkward attempt at a handshake while leaning heavily on her crutch. "I'm not a student here, obviously, so you don't need to bother yourself with remembering it," She said icily, a wry, mirthless smirk forming on her lips for a single instant before shattering. She sighed and looked away. It was best to just get to the point already.

"There something you needed, or what?" She asked, sounding nothing quite so much as she simply sounded... tired.

Fumika didn't so much "jump" as "freeze" when the voice spoke up from behind her, and even that descriptor wasn't entirely accurate, as her fluffy antenna of hair twitched bolt upright as if in mimicry of her own sudden rigid posture, then slowly seemed to deflate, wobbling a little and then curling over again. Turning around, she tilted her head a little bit to the side in bemusement. Why was somebody talking to her all of a sudden? It wasn't Jett, or Yoshida, or anyone else she knew - which made her feel kind of sad. But then she remembered that since she didn't know this person, it was quite strange that he'd just suddenly begin talking to her, and realized that she should have felt confused instead.

He introduced himself, and explained his situation. So he was from a different class, but now he was in their class. She remembered the mean Yoshida saying something like that to the shiny boy who'd fought the shiny girl over Point A after the nice Yoshida had beaten her. It seemed like classes weren't quite set in stone yet, so it probably wasn't weird that new people were joining all the time, even though it seemed kind of weird to her anyway, since the only person who'd ever transferred into her class back home was Haruka, and that had been a special occasion. But although they both had black hair, he didn't really resemble Haruka at all, because she was small and fast and he was really, really tall. Why were so many of the students here so tall? There was the huge man who wasn't a tree who'd talked to her in class, and Jett was pretty tall too, and the big girl who'd come through the window, and now there was this person, too. Then again, not everyone was tall, she supposed. Yoshida was short and cute, and his hair was fluffy.

Oh. Right. There was someone talking to her, but she'd just been staring blankly at his face for a while now. People usually got mad when she did that. Let's see... he'd introduced himself, and asked a question, in that order. So, she needed to tell him her name and then answer.

"Motome Fumika is in 1-A." No, wait, that didn't come out right. "That is, Motome Fumika is me. And I'm in class 1-A." Now, there was something else... Right, right. "Nice to meet you," She recited, giving a surprisingly deep bow, but overestimating the distance between herself and the person she was speaking to, such that the fluffed up tuft of hair sticking up from her head bapped him across the nose both as she lowered her head and as she raised it. If she noticed, she didn't indicate it, as her focus was on something else - the wooden sword he was holding at his side.

"Are you a ninja? Or a samurai? Or a samurai-ninja?" She asked, gazing up at him quite suddenly with almost childlike awe.
@MaeHmm... Well, I had originally envisioned her being kinda two-faced, where one side of her body is covered in the portal-cracks and the other is pretty much completely normal, but I never really hammered out which side was which. Both images I linked for her aesthetic and for the rough layout of her scars had them on the right, though, so I guess that's fine.
@ZerothThanks for the heads-up. Also, sorry that my own posting has fallen so much behind. Hopefully, I'll be able to respond tonight and get caught back up. ^^;
