Hell, if Batman wasn't on “I’m busy, call me when it's important” mode I’d give him a vote, but Batman is always a sort of “unofficial” member of most incarnations of the JLA anyway.
And we need to come up with a chain of command or the JL. Obviously Cap is the head/Captain/whatever under Lex. But I'd like to see someone else be able to lead the team occasionally. If they have to split up. Cap's needed elsewhere etc... And to have it kind of written out so I just don't have to make things up on the fly.

Is there anyone who wants the position? I know who I want, but I'm slightly biased to that character anyways.

Captain America
Black Widow
Thor
Zatanna
The Flash
Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers)
Aquaman
Ant-Man
(Batman)

I mean, it does make sense given her experience and time working with SHIELD.
I have no idea how you are coming up with these hilarious analogies.
Neat. Apparently my current style choice is whack; apparently I like being whack.

JANUARY 12th

It had been a rough last few years for Clark Kent.

Following the Kryptonian invasion, Clark knew the consequences would be vicious and truthfully he didn’t blame the world for turning their back on their hope when they thought they had been betrayed by their hero. The fallout that had occurred following the attack was disheartening for Clark as many people who had called him a “savior” had done a complete 180; Superman was no longer their hero but now their enemy. The Man of Steel knew Luthor had been laughing all the way to the bank when it had happened— an alien starship sending soldiers exactly like his nemesis to destroy and conquer? It was too easy— there was no way Luthor would not have used all of his advantages to create the narrative he wanted to humiliate, discredit, and incriminate Superman.

And that’s exactly what he did.

The formation of the Justice League of America, in another light would’ve been exactly the correct response to the threats present. But in this case it was entirely funded by corporate interests and Lex Luthor’s wallet, a fact that Clark felt everybody ignored. It was probably the most brilliant career move in Lex Luthor’s entire life. A brave new world and Luthor was picking up the pieces. However, it wasn’t a simple game of embarrassing the Man of Steel— though the American entrepreneur probably thought it had been a nice bonus victory. The fact was that Luthor didn’t do things half-heartedly and with him organizing a group of superheroes dedicated to social justice there had to be something much more to it. Superman had smelled something wrong about it the day Luthor announced it— all the fanfare in the world couldn’t hide it.

It sank Clark’s spirits when he had to deny an invitation to the league by his own personal hero, Captain America. But it was just another clever tactic Luthor employed to distract him. Clark couldn’t accept being in league with Luthor, especially not after everything he had experienced at Luthor’s hands. The JLA was Luthor building up to something and manipulating heroes for his own benefit. How could a man who willingly and deceptively armed supervillains, assassins, terrorists, and corrupt governments be the face of a new frontier of justice?

Eventually there would be no legal loophole or way to weasel out of his justice. But how? It had been two years since Luthor’s hero project had been founded and Clark hadn’t found enough evidence to justify his feelings. The possibility that Luthor had gone the route of Tony Stark was something that seemed so unreal to the kryptonian. His feelings aside, there were many people who felt the same way about Luthor that he had talked to in the past to make sure he wasn’t being blinded by his past experiences with Luthor. John, Bruce, Kara, Lois, Diana, and many others looked at Luthor in the same light. Bruce had told him he would look into it, but even the World’s Greatest Detective had a plethora of other priorities.

Let it go, Clark.” Clark muttered under his breath as he stood at the center of the Fortress of Solitude, trying to calm his nerves.

Clark knew thinking about the same thing for three years expecting a different conclusion was the definition of insanity but he felt like distracting himself completely would make it easier for Luthor to do something he would’ve otherwise noticed. It was a conundrum in itself, for sure.

It was times like this that he wondered what Captain America or the Justice Society of America would’ve done in the same situation. Maybe it was a romanticization, but being a hero seemed so much easier back in the Golden Age of Superheroism; villains were simpler.

Kelex, I’m going back on patrol rounds. Update me if anything comes up.

“Of course, Kal-El.”

Leaving the Fortress of Solitude, Clark slammed all of his anxiety into a physical outlet as he zipped from his base of operations as he made for the stratosphere like he always did when preparing for his patrol. Once within the stratosphere the kryptonian stopped on a dime as he looked down towards the surface with a wide smile as his cape flowed behind him. Despite all of the anxiety he had with Luthor every single time Clark pulled himself up here he felt a blissful energy overtake him. Who needed therapy when you could just experience this kind of euphoric peace? He remembered when Kara had started to get used to her powers and he took her up to the stratosphere for the first time as a sort of introduction to the kryptonian abilities she was inheriting.

“Shut your eyes. Focus past the noise and listen closely. This may seem like a burden but it isn’t— this is the heartbeat of the planet.”

It took awhile for Kara, but she understood it. He was so proud when she donned her cape to follow in his footsteps. He never really thought much of legacies until Kara had arrived on Earth, but it made him start considering a lot of things that had happened in the past as well as start looking to the future. What would’ve happened if he had the courage… that he had now. Clark looked downwards in the direction of Jump City on the western seaboard of North America— where Lana Lang, now an important scientist, was studying meta-biology. He hadn’t seen her in som—
    AAAAAH!

The scream cut through Clark’s mind, interrupting his train of thought. There was no thinking to the scream of terror— he had already made a beeline for it.

Touching down in southern Russia, somewhere near the Kazakhstan border, the first conflict of the day begins. Clark’s brows narrow as he sees what had caused the scream: a Frankenstein-like monster stitched throughout his whole body with a massive bulk to him. A woman in a white labcoat is trying to scramble back as fear completely overtakes her. A reasonable sense of fear. Clark throws his arm out and speaks his words carefully hoping that what was before him spoke Russian.

Stop!, what are you doing?1

The words crack forward like lightning and the creature (mutant?) turned its head at the figure that stood behind him that dared to grab him. There was a grumble from its lips.

“Die.”1

“DIE! DIE! DIE!1

The concrete cracked as the creature slammed Clark’s face repeatedly, with each motion exponentially stronger than the last. Clark felt like he should’ve been used to this sort of reaction given his experiences with the likes of Solomon Grundy; but he really wasn’t. There really wasn’t much getting used to with the equivalent of a real life ogre throwing you around like a ragdoll when you were as strong as Clark was. A heavy breath left him as he shifted his energy and despite being face-down flung himself upwards back-first as quickly as possible.

The movement caused the creature to stumble and lose hold of his head, which was good… because that was enough of that.

A bit of a temper, huh. That’s okay. I’ve got one too.1 Clark grinned as he cracked his knuckles.

Please do not reply to this thread, PM me instead if you wish to discuss this!

DISCLAIMER: A few of my timeline ideas and other concepts are inspired by ideas others have done in Maximum Comics, without them I would've not been inspired; the credit goes to them. I was also inspired by the current game I'm in currently run by Morden Man, so please support the "official" release.

I’ve decided to basically convert a few of my ideas in the Maximum Comics continuity and put them to solo text to see how well it translates when I’m in a vacuum with only me and my thoughts/ambitions.

BRIEF TIMELINE
FALL 1941 — Captain America is created as the result of an OSS program called Project Rebirth. Following his first appearance the “Golden Age” of Superheroes begins.

WINTER 1945 — Captain America defeats the Red Skull but is lost in the process; several months later World War II finally ends.

FALL 1948SHIELD is founded.

WINTER 1964 — The “Silver Age” of Superheroes begins when The Justice Society of America is founded.

FALL 1978 — The Justice Society of America disbands due to majority vote from the members after an incident and increasing political regulations.

WINTER 1982 — The gene responsible for the development of mutant powers in certain individuals is isolated and is dubbed the “x-gene”.

SPRING 1988 — The public opinion of mutants has been warped, in part, by religious extremists calling themselves the Purifiers. They use their numbers to cause anti-mutant sentiment which ignites a series of civil rights riots.

SPRING 1990Charles Xavier founds the Institute for Higher Learning in North Salem, New York.

WINTER 1997 — The “Bronze Age” of Superheroes begins with the debut of both Superman and Batman.

SUMMER 1998 — An experimental space project headed by Professor Reed Richards is launched and sets in motion the events that would create the Fantastic Four.

WINTER 1999 — Using “outside of the box” thinking Dick Grayson deduces the culprit of a serial arson case and debuts as Robin, Batman's partner.

WINTER 2000 — Superman discovers Kara-El, another Kryptonian. In time she becomes known as Supergirl.

SPRING 2001Victor Von Doom establishes the Latverian Union to strengthen and unify Eastern Europe under his banner. His technological genius brings many third and second world countries to major contenders on the world level.

WINTER 2002 — A SHIELD hyper-maximum security prison is attacked and destroyed by a new generation of HYDRA soldiers. The former Director of SHIELD is killed in action; he is succeeded by Nick Fury. The attack is followed by a terrorist broadcast of the resurgence of the Red Skull.

FALL 2002Commander Zod, a surviving kryptonian, attacks Earth after refusing Superman's terms. This becomes known as the Kryptonian Invasion.

FALL 2002 — Nick Fury creates the Avengers Initiative known as STRIKE in the shadow of the invasion to create a SHIELD-mandated team for dangerous scenarios. SWORD is also founded.

WINTER 2003 — Lex Luthor founds the Justice League of America under one of his subsidiaries, Infinity Incorporated.

Thought I'd share the top 10 RP partners I've learned from and would not be the same without:

@Morden Man@Bounce@Lord Wraith@Hexaflexagon@McHaggis@AndyC@Eddie Brock@Pachamac

Andy C / Eddie Brock (Perspective, Characterization) 2013-2016
This one is a tie since both of these individuals inspired me around the same time to give first-person perspective a try which completely changed how I looked at certain characters as well as how to characterize emotion as well as introspection rather well due to how they handled characters like Peter Parker, Barry Allen, and Clark Kent. Much like Byrd these are people I’m glad I can continue to write with and I’m sure there’s much we can learn off one another as time continues onward.

Bounce (Characterization, Lore) 2013-2016
Since collaborating with him in Ultimate DC, I’ve really got to know Bounce and reading his writing has taught me a bit. To be able to characterize you need a foundation, and while I’ve known this I don’t think I ever understood it quite like Bounce did. There’s also been a bit of learning how to embody the “voice” of the character that I learned from Bounce and I’m glad to be still writing with them as per the present because there is a lot more to grasp.

Byrd Man (Tone, Mood) 2013-2016
Probably the last in a long line of influences, not so much a mentor but a peer who utterly trumps me in detail and tone. I can’t write introspection or detective serials like Byrd can and I always find myself dissecting his posts new and old to try to learn something as I did with Master Bruce and others from the Hype games. He’s a multi-genre talent that can convey comedy, suspense, and action all on equally sufficient levels; to the point where I wonder who he learned from and what tips he can give me, which ironically I have actually asked him in private on occasion. I’m glad this is someone I can still write with and hopefully I won’t have to look on in fond remembrance for a very long time.

Hexaflexagon (Detail, Depth) 2015-2016
I wish I could write the amount that Hex does. He’s basically the person that reminded me that while brevity is good and all, but good descriptive detail isn’t overrated. While their characterizations are great, I just seem to get lost in the flood of words they churn out… and its not like these are needless, always feeling like each word has a point to the depth of the narrative. His CS’s have also taught me a lot about depth of backstory and push me really hard to be on par.

Lord Wraith (Lore, Game Design) 2013-2016
Vigilant. See what I did there? Wraith comes from a similar GM foundation that I do… yet we can never seem to get our co-built games to work. Despite that I find there is always plenty to learn from his capacity for developing a well-rounded and bullet-pointed backstory and there’s few better on the site when it comes to RP design in both visual aestetics but also mechanics and structure.

Pachamac (Critical Thinking, Game Direction) 2007-2015
An individual who has a deep vision for tone and a talent for bringing his characters to life. I haven’t had the chance to write with them for years due to my own complacency or ill-fated coincidence. We have very different views and influences, but I’d think of few people I’d just like to write with for a decent period again. But what I like the most about Pach is his talent for critical thinking and leading a game, he’s a gifted GM and has really helped me analyze my own writing issues and problems on more than one occasion. We started writing together around 2007 and our last joint venture was around 2011 or 2012.

Rico Underwood (World-Building, Character Development) 2001-2011
Though I know him beyond his pen-name at this point, Rico is and was the original source of inspiration for my collaborative writing. As a youth in 2001, I idolized and utterly respect him not for his detail prose but his distinct world-building, no nonsense attitude, and his stances against purple prose. I also consistently annoyed him since well, he was well into his adulthood and I was twelve – so it pretty much went how you expected it to. However, I was never shunned or isolated, being fully allowed to breathe in settings with acceptance despite by missteps in plot and prose alike. When my peers later on would criticize him I stood there in the shadow of this mentor and simply wouldn’t let that attitude be spoken in front of me. I just wish I could write with him one more time, but I imagine he’s moved on to greater responsibilities and focusing on his deeply enriched setting.

Tergonaut (Narrative, Detail) 2004-2012
Whereas I was taught there was quality in a mere sentence by my first ‘mentor’, from around 2004 onward Tergonaut showed me the full power of detailed narrative at the hands of a talented writer. A dynamic force on my first role-playing forum and probably the second most important to indirectly teach me what collaborative writing was about. Where Rico taught me about characters, Tergonaut taught me about narrative and pacing. I was still young by this point, but he was just as encouraging and supportive as any other person – which is something I wish I had myself as I can be admittedly selfish and too much of a perfectionist when it comes to my collaborative writing. Much like many people from the forum, life and interests shift.
Well, so that happened.

Hank wasn’t exactly on time for the little meeting for the prospective group of “Avengers” that was held in one of the various simulation rooms that the Triskelion had on-base. Though with recent holotech advancements you probably wouldn’t have noticed it being a simulation room when you walked in. Of course, Hank didn’t know that because he was there (because he wasn’t), he knew that because Agent Carter had given him the heads up. Much less abrasive than Agent Laskov… but not as commanding. For some reason he had a sort of preference for “bossy”.

Well, this is the Ant-Man.” Hank stated as he steadied the helmet he had placed on his head as the facemask portion dropped into place. “It’s kind of a big deal.

Agent Carter nodded. “It certainly looks like a powered suit.”

Hank sighed, “You know, you could be a little more fun.

“Not really in my job description, Pym.”

That’s a shame. If you let loose a little I imagine you’d be a lot more fun at parties. Ah, who am I kidding you don’t go to parties. What with this career military vibe you’re giving off. Bet you had family in the organization and if not SHIELD, probably something like it. SWORD? CIA? FBI? The New York Knicks? Dominos?

Carter let out a giggle, cracking from Hank’s nonsense for a minute.

There it is. Anyway—” Hank took a step forward as they continued walking now that Hank had ‘suited’ up, “—is Cap going to meet us at the door or what?

“He’s observing. From what I hear the session has already started, so you’ll be going in as a surprise. That doesn’t matter. Cap thinks it simulates the field appropriately. You’ll be dealing with… well, good luck.”

I guess I don’t get any additional information… darn. Thanks, though.

Hank actually remained quiet for the rest of the walk to the exterior of the room, contemplating in the silence what the best route to go was with. Given he didn’t know who he was up against he wasn’t sure how to prepare for the simulation rounds. However, by the sound of Carter’s previous comment he expected something ‘big’ and he started making calculations after remember what Cap had said about the prospective line-up.

“We have one possible god, one god, one being who is essentially a god, a super soldier, a girl who can travel between dimensions and take a hell of a punch and we have a tech advisor who's a billionaire and pisses me off.”

Hank frowned quizzically underneath the faceplate of his helmet. This probably meant he was either facing a possible god, a god, or someone who was god by a different name. There were a few names that popped up due to Hank’s keeping up with the ‘kardashians’ so to speak.

So, you’re sending me in against a god. I’m just a guy in a suit.

“I’ll tell Captain America ab—”

—this is going to be a fun challenge.

“I see. Good luck.” Agent Carter took a step back as she looked at the door that led into the simulation room. As the door opened Hank could feel an intensity. The funnest part of this was that he had did some tweaks on the Ant-Man suit just the other day as crime-fighting had gotten a bit more… dull. He had started to incorporate some designs his father never got around to and he was all about testing them out. It also poised a classic question to Hank.

Who is stronger? An Ant or a god?

The doors swung open.

I guess you can call me truant for this shindig. Hank nearly laughed at his own pun as he held his hand over his wrist.
Seems like I didn't mention Hank not having his suit on hand. So maybe I can do this is good comic fashion and say he does. He has the "watch" anyway. I've got an idea though so I'll go to shop with it.
