And back I am. Exhausted, certainly, and may need a while for that to wear off, but I'm once more here to read and even write!

There's a lot of backlog here on my end. I'm trying my best to lessen it, but replies might be less frequent for a time. A welcome change from the nothing doing I went through though! Thanks partners!

Bio

I suppose it is about time for me to copypaste fill in some information about myself over here just as well. Only took me a few years to getting around to do it.

I am a married individual in my twenties from the country some people dare claim does not exist. The Finland conspiracy is an old joke, you can stop with it now. Not a native speaker of the English language by any means, though I did begin studying it exceptionally early for our country's standards. I suppose it was some sort of a test case. With that out of the way though, what more should I be saying here...
  • I like being nice to people. If one needs to ask why, well that alone is reason enough.
  • I play and Dungeon Master Dungeons and Dragons, both offline and in the past also over here.
  • I enjoy OOC chatter, be it planning the RP or a more casual exchange (not that RP'ing is that serious). I can make do without, but don't be afraid to talk to me.
  • Whatever the case, I'm here to have fun and hone my writing abilities!
I do think that should about cover it, yes.

Thanks for stopping by I suppose! I do also have a Discord account, but I prefer to start anything RP related on the site. At least with people I don't know from the past, that is! But hey, now if you are a longer time contact of mine and happened to read this, now you know and can ask!

They have a breath weapon. Not much more than that with that roll.

Bleh, intelligence checks... not my forte.

Not bad all things considered. It's double digits at least. Blue dragonborn are lightning elements right? Presumably Orchid is eventually in a position to see and hear him from the keep.

Yes, blue dragons are creatures of lightning as has been demonstrated.

As for the check... well, you have succeeded and I am assuming Orchid would share this information with the rest. This is no dragonborn. This is a bona fide half-dragon. A rarer sort, but also more powerful. Where Dragonborn have draconic heritage somewhere in the family, a Half-Dragon is a direct offspring of a shapeshifted dragon... and even then it only happens sometimes. This is how they naturally come to be anyhow. There are rumours of other ways, but those Orchid does not know of.

She can. I have no objections to whichever solution you choose.

Roll Nature for me, if you would.
Grug listened to the greeting provided, these people seemingly being somewhat flabbergasted by his... enthusiastic greeting. With the exception of the red haired girl, her name aptly reflecting this quality of hers. She had immediately went to see and check many of the trinkets he had around, the Orc carefully reaching towards her as a reflex. "Watch out now, I sell those things. You may look, but please do not touch. I don't remember what I have at each part of this wagon from the top of my head", he voiced his concerns, though his voice was more of the caring than stern sort.

As for the other woman, a simple nod would suffice. She didn't seem too excited about meeting him, so he would return the disinterest. It seemed as if she was almost dragged here by the other two, not a new sight to the Oracle to be honest. Many times a group of friends brought one along that wanted nothing to do with "the old orc's humbug". However, their company often wanted the Oracle to specifically look into their future just for that reason.

Yet this time that would not be the case as the man voiced what they were actually seeking from here. It was about the ruins they were heading to now. "Yes, while I have gazed upon those futures many times, let me do it once more. Perhaps something new will show itself", he ruminated and sat back down, setting his cane next to his crystal as he brought his hand above it again. "So let's see what the future will bring..."

Grug's magic awakened within him as a foggy pattern appeared in his irises, the gaze of his eyes leaving this mortal realm for the while as it moved beyond the veil of time, the many futures shaped by the choices of the people of the land unfolding before him. He did his best to filter them down, but as per usual the results varied. In the end, there were numerous outcomes before him and he could only resort to piecing together what most of them shared. "Gaze into my crystal, and allow my lesser magic to show you what I can", he instructed, summoning a minor illusion into the sphere.

In the sphere, a clearing appeared, in the middle of which the ruins they wanted to head for stood. Red lines of energy rushed among the shape of the land, the four currently in the wagon joined by a rider, a sphinx, an admittedly short fellow and a few more, not all of which Grug could muster to manifest with his weak power. "This is what I can certainly tell... where the evil resides, energy gathers. But we and more allies stand ready. Yes, I see myself among you. This old cripple might need to get on the road once more..."

There is time for a short discussion. My personal expectations are that either Orchid or Brannor will step forth against the champion of the enemy. But I won't mind if you surprise me somehow either. It's the same fight to be ran anyhow.

With that in mind, feel free to make any requests about it IC and the governor will see to what he can do!
The governor nodded at the adventurers, although this nod was much more dismissive than those he usually showed. "I thank you for your concern, but I have made up my mind", he shared, clearly set on his course of action. Sergeant Longwater stepped back, raising his hands in the air behind the governor, a gesture that clearly signalled him giving up and encouraging the others to do so just as well. Nighthill had made up his mind and if the guardsman's behaviour was of any indication, the governor would hold on to decisions such as this. Perhaps it was pride, perhaps just plain stubbornness. Whatever be the case, it seemed this meeting was over for now as the heroes of the night began scattering from the rooftop.

And it did seem as if there would be no more incursions for the rest of the night. Sentries reported no critical structures under attack, the sally port held fast against any further probes, the Old Tunnel saw no more traffic from the keep, nor did it seem as if the enemy would have wandered in there. And even if they did, they either failed to notice or deliberately ignored the door inside. But as things are according to Murphy's Law, if something could go wrong, it would. The keep itself was well defended, but it was those who were left outside of its walls that would be used against the denizens this time.

When barest hint of sunlight just barely appeared above the horizon, the raiders gathered close to the keep. Now that they were all in the same place, it was easy to see why a no holds barred counterattack would have been a futile endeavour: They numbered at least thrice the amount of defenders available. And even if one could consider the adventurers a boon to Greenest, they were not the only side packing more formidable force.

From the darkness, a creature strode into the dim light of the fires of the keep. Although shaped roughly like a human, it was at least seven feet tall, its skin covered in blue scales, fingers bearing wicked claws and its face... it carried the muzzle and reptilian eyes of a dragon. The creature stopped about eighty yards from the main gate, a line of kobolds fanning out behind it. These servants used their spears to prod forth four prisoners, a woman, a teenage boy in a blood-soaked tunic and two children. They let the scene set in to the hearts and minds of the defenders for a moment, but finally the half-dragon breaks the 'silence' by hailing the keep.

"Defenders of Greenest! This has been a successful night, and I am feeling generous. Do you see these four pitiful, useless prisoners? We have no need for them, so I will trade them back to you. Send out your best warrior to fight me, and you can have these four in exchange."

As it has finished speaking, a distinct sound of people brawling in metal armour can be heard, at the source of which one can see a few of the guardsmen holding back sergeant Longwater, who is in turn doing his best to press through his underlings. "Let me through! Those are my wife and children out there!" the sergeant bellows, but his men do not give way. Quite on the contrary, the dwarven castellan rushes into the room with even more guards who join in keeping Longwater in check. As this is going on, the governor has crept behind the adventurers.

"My friends", he spoke up, "you've demonstrated your prowess all through this frightful night. I realise this is an awful burden to ask you to bear, especially after all you have already done for us, but any of you has a better chance to defeat that... thing, than any of my militia have."

The Jailor tried to reach above the shelves of the room, but could feel something dragging it down. A quick look showed it the hunter was still hanging on to the body of his. "Death is inescapable, frail one. Come now, prolong your suffering no longer", it spoke in a calm, 'as a matter of fact' tone. It knew that if the hunter continued to resist, the small gargoyles of it would return to their master soon and help him detach this clinging fool. However, the reappearance of the third hunter threw the Jailor off for a solid second. "They return to me..." it muttered, swinging its free shackle in a tiny arc so that the chain on it straightened itself.

The two gargoyles returned to the room, with no trace of Kenza anywhere. It disappointed the Jailor, but on the other hand it had only two hands and there were two hunters present. Things could have been worse. "Ekil Erif, Ekam Erif, Erif Erif... May Necro'Lic forgive his Jailor for the one that got away", the Jailor spoke in a soft tone, barely audible to even Derrick who was just below it. It beat its wings a few more times, trying to finally detach the hunter from his body. He would have no need for it in the maze.

Theodore focused intently on his crossbow, this time making sure he would not repeat the same amateurish mistake he had just made. He his eyes fixated on that, he could only follow how the battle progressed with his ears. Katia was shouting something about her past to Cesar, soon turning to request more information from the spell slinging fellow in purple. Then there was Wick's Command, he could not mistake such a clear use of magic... And then there was the familiar sound of blade impacting whatever those creatures were made out of. After that, a moment of silence.

As a barely familiar voice rang out, Theodore raised his head above his cover and could see all of the shadows were dealt with. Well, what worked, worked. He had landed a killing shot at the start, so things could've been worse for the arbalist. He raised up from his one-knee-down pose and tossed the bolt he had in his hands back into its case. The lid was snapped shut, the mask grabbed and donned. Lastly, the heavy crossbow found its way onto his back. He had done these things a thousand times before.

He approached the rest, gravitating slightly towards Thea as he walked, and politely listened what the caster had to say. Before he could interject and tell them to quiet down, Wick did the deed. Not that he would have heard the small voice all the way where he was, so he did add his own piece: "We are close enough to each other to discourage shouting. If there is anything more out here, especially something that might have been drawn about by the sounds of battle, we do not want to highlight where we are going now." His voice was barely the volume of normal speech, but if nobody talked on top of him everyone could easily hear his words.

He glanced at Thea, in an attempt to see if she was wounded. He knew it to be futile, but he could not help himself. In this world, even when he had been savagely assaulted by the birds he had looked like he had just walked out of the barracks, ready to head on a mission. And this was the case this time just as well. She looked just like she had looked when they had fallen from the sky... well, a bit more organised perhaps. But no signs of damage anywhere nonetheless. A quicker look at all the others proved the same: Nobody looked hurt. This was a deceptive realm, but those suffering would likely voice it. The feeling left behind by harm in this realm was thoroughly unpleasant.

"Where do you think we'll find ourselves once we reach our destination?" he asked of those next to him while nervously scanning his surroundings. While he would have loved to relax, his training had taught him better. It would not have been the first time another fight would break out soon after the first.
