Current I'm going to have to take a break for awhile. One of my dogs just passed; we went to bed together like we always do and when I woke up she was gone. I feel awful right now.

Had a fun birthday. Had some alligator tail for dinner, overall was pretty good for a place I hadn't been to before. Will start getting back into the groove of things soon.

Hi. If you've wound up here, you're probably wondering who I am.

You can call me Kuro, although some of you might better recognize me by one of the several other names that I have used in the past throughout the 11-ish years that I have spent on this forum. I'm a middle-twenties retail manager that is still trying to relive the glory days of their roleplay career while balancing a full-time job with an unsatiable need for overtime.

I tend to be open to most ideas when it comes to roleplay itself, be it whatever genre, group size, system, etc. That being said, I often gravitate to anything that falls in the following categories: anime, fantasy, slice of life, superhero or survival horror. If you believe that you have an idea that I might be interested in, feel free to shoot me a link; I'll get back to you as soon as I possibly can. Sometimes I forget to check my messages, so don't feel bad about pestering me again if I missed it.

I also have a discord server laying around. If we're cool, then I might be willing to a toss an invite your way.

@Writing Novice I don't have any interest in joining this RP, but just as a FYI RPG does have a three tab system for your use, so you don't have to make an extra thread just for character creation. You can either use the OOC or Character tabs in the other thread for character making instead, with the roleplay posts going in the IC tab. Most people use the OOC tab for character creation and only post in the Character tab once their sheet has been approved, though.

First Class #2.83 Early Bird Gets the Worm

Interaction(s): Alyssa @Lord Wraith
Previously: Rabid

The weekend had passed and gone.

Suzie wasn't surprised that none of the newbies had chosen Gulo as their house of choice. By the reaction some of them had had at the ceremony, she figured that they might've been scared away at the prospect of joining her house. Her mood had soured by the end of the event, and she was even wishing that certain individuals would decide to stay as far as away from Gulo as they could. The team swap had become a total disaster, and it just got worse as it went on.

Regardless, Suzie still stood by her actions. Despite the turmoil that had been kicked up, she still felt sympathy for Blackjack. They had just lost one of their team members, and now their death was splintering their ranks. It reminded her of herself, in a way. Loss hit everyone hard, and she was no stranger to it herself, but Suzie believed that Cass wouldn't have wanted his team to fall apart to infighting. Of course, she hadn't actually known Cassander. She didn't know how tightly bonded Blackjack truly was by then. It just made sense to her that someone wouldn't want people to fight among themselves after their death.

"Oh, Suz! Thank the moon you're here! I've been trying to show this blockhead where the issue is, but he's oblivious!" A spotted cow, Sarah, pleaded. To anyone else, it would've sound like a series of repetitive moos.

"I should've never told you about The Cow That Jumped Over the Moon." Suzie sighed, taking a bite of a granola bar as she knelt down and checked where the cow pointed her to. "Yup. There's the problem—that's one nasty hoof. It'll have to be chiseled down so the cavity can be cleaned up and sterilized."

"Eugh, I feel sick. How can you eat while looking at that?" Her peer, the Blockhead, quickly spoke up once Suzie had diagnosed the issue for him and the cow.

"My family used to work in the seafood industry. Had a small boat, too." Suzie responded to her inquisitive peer. "I've seen enough blood and guts in my day just from experience, so nothing really bothers me anymore."

Well, that was a half-lie. The terrified animal screams of those Suzie tried to cook up prior to her turn to veganism still very much haunted her to this day. It was difficult to eat meat when it literally screamed back at you for mercy during preparation.

"Anyway, go let the doc know. I have to head out now, so update me when I get back."

Patting Sarah on the back, Suzie left the school's meager farm to go change out of her work clothing, swapping bib trousers and rubber boots out for her school uniform. Today had been her first official day of the H.E.A.T. program, and her first class of said program was scheduled to take place in a few minutes. She considered heading to the Law & Liberal Arts wing ahead of time, but they had been told to gather outside the mess hall by their team representatives, so she made way over towards the building instead to wait for everyone else to arrive.

As she arrived to their meeting point, however, Suzie looked puzzled at the mess hall gathering. She wasn't exactly the early type, yet from those she saw, there had only been a couple members of the three H.E.A.T. teams had shown up so far. The outspoken blonde from Blackjack, currently distracted by her phone. The redhead that had joined Eclipse alongside her. It seemed like they were going to have to wait a bit longer before heading to their first class of the day.

"Did everyone decide to sleep in today, or am I just early?" Suzie asked the redhead, both out of curiosity and to strike up a conversation to pass the time.

"Blood doesn't make a family. People do."

▼ A P P E A R A N C E:

Natsumi is of Asian ancestry, in particular Japanese. Her hair and eye color are both a dark brown, with said hair often kept in a makeshift ponytail that tends to hangs over her shoulder. She stands at 5'2'', and has an average yet athletic build.

Attire-wise, Natsumi's closet isn't so much different than the average person. Hoodies, t-shirts, jeans, etc. are all commonplace. The only thing that seems to stand out is a preference for anything green in color.

▼ B I O G R A P H Y:

Natsumi doesn't remember her biological parents.

Placed into the California foster system at an early age, Natsumi had a stroke of luck that most kids don't often receive. Two San Franciscan retirees, Eric and Janice Collingwood, had decided to turn to the foster system after their own children were long gone and out of the house, wanting to spend their retirement helping as many children as they possibly could. Natsumi, among some other foster children, happened to be one of those taken in by the elderly Collingwoods, which gave her the chance to experience a real home for the first time in her life.

Growing up in the Collingwood house was a challenge in itself. Not because the Collingwoods were draconian by any means, but rather because Natsumi had plenty of siblings to keep track of. Things were often chaotic as people bounced from appointment to extracurricular, and it wasn't unusual for Natsumi and/or others to be tasked with cleaning up a huge mess they had made. Despite this, the hectic lifestyle made for a well-bonded family, and Natsumi ultimately came to see the Collingwoods and also her foster siblings as her family, ignoring the fact that none of them were blood-related.

When her metahuman gene came into being, it had been a shock to Natsumi, but also everyone else around her. She had simply been crossing a street, as anyone does, when a distracted driver came barreling down the road. Her body suddenly froze in place, and Natsumi firmly believed that this was it; that she was about to die. By sheer luck, the driver managed to swerve out of the way, and instead sent their car scraping against a guard rail.

What happened next left Natsumi more confused than she ever had been. Rather than people checking on her to see if she had been okay, onlookers began to shout at her, placing the blame for the accident in her hands. They claimed she had "disappeared", scaring the driver into swerving and causing an accident. The crowd grew increasingly hostile towards Natsumi, and fearing for her own safety, she quickly ran off while there was still an opportunity to do so.

Returning to the only safe place she knew of, Natsumi made quick haste for home. By then, however, the incident had already made local news, and the Collingwoods were at a complete loss as to how to proceed. It was then when Aegis swooped in, their proximity to the complex having ensured a swift response. Aegis had promised a solution to Natsumi's sudden problems, as well the ability to further understand what she had become—a metahuman. Feeling as if she had no other option, Natsumi accepted their offer, and packed her things for a trip to the new and improved Alcatraz Island.

▼ M O T I V A T I O N / O B J E C T I V E:

Growing up in a large foster family, Natsumi is practically blind to differences.

She isn't the type to focus on someone's past or what prior offenses they might've done. Natsumi only sees the person before her, and she wears her heart on her sleeve doing so. She desires to be friends with everyone, or at the very least get along with them. If people were willing to talk rather than look down upon one another, then they might just find something they had in common. If they don't, then that's perfectly okay, too! All that matters is that the world ends up with a little less hate than it already had.

Of course, now that Natsumi has learned she is a metahuman, this seemingly naïve perspective of hers has recently began to show cracks within itself. Can you truly change those with blackish hearts inside?

▼ A B I L I T I E S / S K I L L S:

Natsumi has the ability to turn herself completely invisible. The cells within her body have mutated upon metamorphosis and are now capable of bending light waves, therefore allowing Natsumi to blend into her surroundings. As this power requires her own specialized DNA to activate, it remains only applicable to Natsumi and her person; the cloaking ability physically can not extend to anything or anyone else.

It is important to understand that Natsumi's metahuman ability is simply what it says on the tin—invisibility. Nothing more, nothing less. She does not become incorporeal like a ghost or spirit, nor can she phase through objects like one. Natsumi remains very much in solid form upon use of her ability and can still be detected via noise, provided one has capable hearing.

As of right now, Natsumi has little-to-no direct control over her ability. Given current evidence, it is theorized that her power exists purely as a defensive mechanism, not unlike that of a Smith's dwarf chameleon camouflaging itself from predators. Her ability has only been seen to come into play upon Natsumi recognizing something or someone as a potential threat or risk capable of bodily harm or death, such as a speeding car, a rabid animal, a weapon of any kind, etc.

Whether or not Natsumi will eventually be able to activate her metahuman power "at will" lies uncertain, as it remains to be seen if she is even capable of doing so on her own.

Lemme know if anything needs changed, expanded on, etc. Otherwise, it's essentially done.
Haleigh's post has been updated and completed (save for Location, which I'm waiting for Wraith to confirm).

Going to tag @Lord Wraith@Theyra@Webboysurf as the pings won't ping in an edited post.
@Martian and anyone else who reads this:

Unfortunately, I think I'm going to can this RP before it starts. This RP hasn't really gathered much interest both here and in the check. I've also been distracted elsewhere, namely the holidays (dealing with hyper-anxious dogs around fireworks) and dealing with another RP of mine that is currently actively imploding. I'm sorry if I've wasted anyone's time, but I honestly don't think much will come out of it on top of it being an awkward time for me to GM something.
The past few days have been certainly something. I've thought about PRCU (and Ju-V) for awhile. Posted in the OOC/check a bit. Talked with some people here and there about their own thoughts and to just generally reflect on the situation.

To be honest, I do still want to RP Haleigh. She's a character I've had fun writing, one that I've constantly slung posts left and right out for. That being said, I was tempted to leave nonetheless. Admittedly, I've been simmering on issues with this RP, as seen above and in the DMs of the people I've talked to. This wasn't the first time I've had them, as @Lord Wraith would know when the "troll post" issue happened some months ago and ultimately led to a member of this RP being booted and banned from the thread (which itself is a whole another can of worms still half-open, IMO).

Despite all of this, I'm probably going to stay in the long run. However, this decision largely depends on whether or not communication and transparency can happen (for GMs and players). I genuinely do not think PRCU will survive without those two factors being part of it, as much of the drama we have had comes down to such matters. The inclusion of 12 new player slots. The "troll post". And now this. People on both sides end up feeling like they aren't being heard or consulted, leap to conclusions, lash out (myself included, which I apologize for if I've come off aggressive in the past), etc.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I need people to promise (and I mean actually promise, not "yeah, sure" and forget about it) to actually engage and consult each other for me to 100% confirm that I'm sticking around. There is probably a better way to phrase that, but if people are more willing to actually talk things out, rather than have a constant break down in communication like we've had in the past, then I can see this RP thriving and a lot of the drama we've had never occurring again. Otherwise, the cycle is just going to keep repeating and we're going to get nowhere, making it pointless to stick around.
No thanks. RPs will always die out regardless of what you do. Given people are anonymous here and elsewhere, there is no accountability to be had. Besides, these things rarely work well and/or for long outside of exclusive friend groups than with complete strangers. You're just replacing one person's absence and issues as a GM and multiplying it by X amount of group members, essentially.
I'm going to be honest. Between PRCU and this thread/RP, the GM/roleplay decisions are really starting to feel like this:

One person says one thing and takes it back later. Alternatively, one person says one thing while another says something totally different. It's starting to get frustrating with how back-and-forth this is becoming.
