Background: Born to a Filipino Mestizo landowner widower and his lower-class mistress, Leon was spared some of the stigma from his bastard birth (and later his sexuality), by his father legitimizing him as his heir, before sending him back-and-forth between the Philippines and America to study. While in both countries, Leon acquired a passion for Digimon and was able to satisfy his passion for the franchise's products while at the same time engaging in his studies. He also had a few boyfriends and girlfriends at around this time. But, beneath this playboy exterior lay someone who, although he loved his father, wanted to make business decisions other than running a sugar plantation.

Specifically, he wanted to be both a professional gamer and introduce professional gaming to the Philippines, becoming an e-sports tycoon. And as he knew Digimon and its own related E-sports like the back of his hand, it was no idle dream. Failing that, however, his contingency would be to found his own entertainment company that would distribute Anime memorabilia in the Philippines...

Also, late teen age ranges sound fine to me.

Wonderswan games happened before Tamers, but contradict 02 while somehow being still Canon (Ryo appears in a flashback). And Ryo actually pays a lot for his OP-ness, to the point where it wasn't worth it.

Then again, part of my attachment to Ryo comes from good Yaoi fanfiction.
