Sure, spellswords are a thing in DnD and even out of the DnD context I don't particularly see any problems with a mage carrying a sword if they so chose to, though between healing magic and sword proficiency you'd be a low amount of training away from being a straight up paladin. Just remember, you will be a student so try to stay first year student level. Don't go around healing broken bones when your magical proficiency calls for something more akin to closing a clean cut open wound.
I mean I am open to older year students which would have a bit more proficiency than most, but if you choose that road I will be holding you to a higher standard to maintain that extra skill.
Just keep in mind your power scaling in relation to your approved character and I won't have to divine hammer anything. lol

Healing magic is allowed. Though I'll be sure to emphasize that natural talent can't really be in both harming and healing based magic as well as a similar relation between utility and sabotaging magic. Y'know, character balance.
If you're in need of a reason why it's like that, I have my own godly pantheon that's hidden from the knowledge of the world of my lore, and so healing magic and holy magic is typically just a form of channeling the same as magical energy being used in elemental magic and any other magic usage. I'll be sure to clarify the nature of magic in relation to the world.
You don't necessarily need to be a priest or religious to be talented in healing magic. Likewise you would have a good deal of talent in protection magic.
Both. Characters run the chance of space battles, anomalies, planets with high gravitational pulls, all this can leave you stranded on a planet where you have to survive the elements and npcs till you can find a way to escape. Outside of that you can run into npcs or other characters where combat is possible so yeah it has both.

At this point I'd say just go and write up a post without him.
