Can't believe that I actually got an RP close to its endgame, btw...

Noble Arms is now either four years old, or three years and eleven months. The third thread had lasted for more than one year.

New Interest Check, everybody!

My Roleplay, Noble Arms: The ASEAN War, will reach its 4th year in June or July. It's been a long journey.
This looks pretty interesting. Quite keen. Can I be a pain and ask for some brief details of the current active team composition? I'd like to fill a gap and don't really wanna accidentally copy another players character.
Sure; it'll be easier on the OOC Discord Server, though, so can you join it?
The invite link is in the OOC Opening Post.
Edit: Nevermind, I compiled a list.
Currently Active PCs, GMPCs, and Combat NPCs List:
What's your time zone and how many hours of free time do you have? We can talk this over on Discord if you want?
That said, yes, the sheet needs improvement from beginning to end.
If you're going to use a written description for appearance, please make it a paragraph long; this isn't the Free RP section, and while we're still more lenient than Advanced, one sentence saying your character is a mature woman who wears fashionable clothing without elaborating just what makes her a mature woman and not specifying what fashionable clothing she wears even though there are all sorts of fashionable clothing and not all of them are appropriate for a battlefield does not work for a description.
This is the same for your Noble Arm's Abilities (that said, I like how they are not overpowered), your Personality, and your Biography, the latter which is the most flawed section. How is she a kindhearted woman? What made her that way? Why does she have an interest in technology and swordplay?
How is she complex and how does she act in a way that first impressions vary?
You can edit your character sheet to include your answers, by the way, and just tell us if they're edited.
Seven decades ago, the Computer Scientist Alan Turing invented an 'Occult Programming Language' that made magic real. The most common form that 'magic' took was the Noble Arm, which was the ability to conjure up a supernatural weapon that can defy the laws of physics, a weapon bound to the user’s mind and soul; summoned by their will into reality. For reasons that are still unexplainable despite years of research, Noble Arms only take the form of weapons from before the First World War, however, despite the antiquity of these forms, the power they bear to the battlefield is unlike anything modern technology has been able to produce.
The ability to manipulate the elements to the user's will.
Forces that can reduce matter down to atoms in seconds.
The strength to withstand the explosion of a nuclear missile.
It is now 2022, and the world is both different and similar to how History should have gone. Trying to redress its humiliation in this timeline's 1988, the current rulers of China have launched an invasion of Southeast Asia, forcing the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to attempt a collective defense. Foiled twice now, first in their attempt to land at Lingayen Gulf in the Philippines, then mauled in the Spratly Isles by their own countrymen, the Qing Restoration Society (who are not relevant to this current mission), the People's Liberation Army have decided to choke the Mekong River, a stream vital to the livelihoods of the populace of Mainland Southeast Asia, by using their control of Jinghong Dam, a hydroelectric dam built on a crucial point of the river's course.
Over the past few weeks, paddy fields have dried up, thousands of livestock, waterfowl, and wildlife have starved to death, and rice prices skyrocketed to the point of catastrophe. All the while, the PLA generates vital electricity for their war effort.
Even worse, the PLA has placed several Prisoner-of-war camps immediately downstream from the dam, where illegally enslaved captives are worked almost to death and only survive as they are vital human shields to deter any attempt to destroy the dam's structure. They must be rescued, and the Anti-Air emplacements at the dam's sides disabled, so that the Mekong River can be free once more!
-------
This is an interest check for an ongoing RP, Noble Arms: The ASEAN War, which is now in its third mission and fifth story arc, where the OCs are trying to free PoWs that are being used as human shields to protect a dam that their opponents are using to choke off their allied countries, then call in an airstrike to destroy said dam.
You have the option of playing Arms Masters, people that through personal development, positive or negative, have manifested a Noble Arm, a weapon formed from and linked to, but not part of one's soul. You can also be ordinary but not unimportant service-folk/service people: Special Forces Infantry, Air Force Pilots, Marines, Boat Drivers, or even spies working for ASEAN in Chinese territory.
Antagonists need special permission from all three members of the GM Council (Being Recruited).
The details of Mission Three are listed below:
Mission Three: Assault on Jinghong Dam
Before the ASEAN War, the Chinese built a dam to control the flow of the Mekong River and generate power for its people, as well as to exert a means of influence over the neighboring countries downstream, the ASEAN members Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, and the furthest south of Vietnam. Now that the ASEAN War is escalating, China has slowed down the water flow to a trickle, raising fears of drought while increasing their electricity supply for their war effort. Even worse, the Chinese have placed PoW camps in the floodplains below the dam in order to deter airstrikes. Your goals, Arms Masters and Ordinary Folk are to evacuate the PoWs and then destroy the dam...
(Red Circle is the Dam, Red Stars are the PoW camps.)
You can find the Lore in the Noble Arms Lore Thread and the Character Sheet Skeleton in the The OOC Thread. The OOC Thread also has copies of the parts of the lore relevant to actually playing the game.
1.) Cooperative storytelling comes first; prospective players should not seek to game or break the system to make themselves as powerful as possible. One should also not use one's PC's powers to brute-force all obstacles the GM brings before them, or use sophistry, psychological tricks, or 'mental influence magic' to win every diplomatic confrontation. This is not an RP where 'storygaming' is an ugly word. 2.) Nor does an angsty backstory that fits various 'story beats' make one's character good if their purpose is to defeat everyone and establish themselves as the 'top dogs' and otherwise make it an arms race with the GM on who can god-mode more. If one won't use their angsty backstory to make a good story, this is not the RP for them. 3.) That said, powerful characters and angsty backstories are permitted, as long as they are made by players who are willing to cooperate with each other and the GM to make a good and dynamic story that isn't just 'X overpowers Y' by bending the rules so far they break, violating the spirit of said rules and (to quote Dave Brookshaw of Onyx Path publishing) common sense. 4.) The first three rules are the most important; let's just say that people who cannot follow them have proven problematic before, and it's best that we have people who can follow the first three rules in this RP. 5.) Do not be an asshole. 6.) Post length is five sentences minimum, but longer posts are encouraged, of course. GMs are also bound by this rule. 7.) Characters are supposed to start out no higher than B-Rank in statistical average on their Noble Arm. Note that exceptions can be made for one (two at the most) players who can be trusted to control themselves and not powergame when it weakens the story. 8.) 1 US Dollar is 55 Philippine Pesos - Remember this when you spend money. 9.) Reminder: The more powerful you are, the lower your Potential stat is. If you want high Potential, you need to make a weak Noble Arm that can get stronger later.
I'm an avid Roleplayer, what else should I say? I'm not a master at typing, but I know what I imagine. I want to have antogonistic duels, escapades, adventures, epics, ultimately dance with a Princess of the Cosmos.
I have an RP with all of those except for that last one, for all it's worth... :P
Mission Three - Assault on Jinghong Dam: Special GM Post
Jinghong Dam - 10/25/2022, 8:30 UTC+8
Originally Ishtar in Rin's body from Fate/Grand Order, now Ai Chen.
Ai Chen was the Rooster of the Zodiac, and Warden of the 'prison farms' that now dotted the area immediately downstream from Jinghong Dam, where she and Huo Ren, her occasional 'consort', had been stationed in anticipation of the ASEAN attempt to rescue the PoWs that were no more than slave labor now; her slave labor.
Patrolling the air on her Noble Arm, a recurve bow of gold and lapis lazuli so big that she can ride it like a vehicle, she shamelessly stared at the laborers' glistening backs; she had mandated that in exchange for decent food and sanitation, the prisoners were to wear only their shock collar and a pair of shorts (with chest wraps for women). This resulted in a most pleasant view in her opinion as she flew over the fields and hills where crowds of prisoners were harvesting rice, peanuts, and peas from the green and brown ground, which also grew a host of other crops she didn't care about and were being gathered up too.
There was no danger of food theft; their collars sparked with electricity should their mouths move too close to the food - Having their own microchip plants was an asset in these trying times.
Spotting a flash of red hair below, she soared a little downwards to look at their new prisoner, Amadeo Balagtas, the Filipino Arms Master Jason had brought in during that 'disruption operation' in Angeles City. He had been interrogated most harshly by Huo Ren when Jason had gone back to Russia where he belonged, and now the young man was bearing numerous marks of harsh treatment on his back, chest, biceps, and abs, marks that had multiplied when he had foolishly refused to accept her and Huo's 'interest' in him. Now as the price of his defiance, he was being forced to haul rocks in a wheelbarrow away from the fields and onto a dump site alone, but it was clear he wouldn't give way... Yet.
Oh, well, she can play the long game, and it wasn't like there weren't plenty of captives of both sexes to choose from in the meantime, assuming ASEAN's 'Task Force Obsidian' failed to take advantage of the New Moon tonight. But right now, it was time to watch over the large, bungalow-like barracks where the prisoners were housed at night and their larger, blockier counterparts for the guards, the watch posts meant to prevent escape, and the barbed wire fences, ditches, and minefields that surrounded the very edge of the 'prison farms'; a grim reminder that escaping was just not viable even with Noble Arms.
And of course, she had a canister containing one of Jason's viruses, strapped to her gold and ebony-colored bikini's belt, as a trump card, just in case every countermeasure failed. What a shame that bastard was loyal to the memory of the wife he himself killed; he was a looker underneath that mask...
Noel was ill at ease, feeling like a schoolboy in an auditorium; he had spent twelve years in conventional schools before becoming an Arms Master, something that had defined his life. His left hand gripped the seat of his plastic chair as he listened to what the Rear Admiral and the Lieutenant-General had to say. Even in the slightly cooler weather of October, and the natural coolness of the early morning, he was sweating in the military uniform - With green and brown camouflage patterns - he had chosen to wear to avoid looking like he was waving his privileges as a member of Task Force Obsidian at other people.
To his credit, he looked good in green and brown camouflage patterns, but that was not the point he wished to make. Right now, the boy had a pair of concerns, one he knew had to be discussed early before things went off the rails, as they doubtless would.
So he raised his hand like the student he would have been in a different life, and asked, "I noticed that the following night is the New Moon, which allows me to use a certain ability my Noble Arm has. However, if Huo Ren is in any way near Jinghong Dam, he would probably be able to counter said ability; so I have to ask: Do we know if he is anywhere in the area?"
His left hand had loosened its grip as he asked, but it tightened again as Noel asked another question, "Also, I couldn't help but notice that most of our heavy hitters are out of commission; either called to other fronts or dropped out of the Task Force due to some reason. This means that we will have to be more subtle, especially as the remainder have not fought alongside each other to any real extent and so they'd have to coordinate in the midst of battle. Or do we have a stopgap solution at hand?"
Myron, who was wearing his traditional black and white semi-formal suit that made him look like a Mafiosi or a Yakuza (or more charitably, a Government Agent), looked at Noel and provided an answer to the first question, "Mr. Malong told me that Huo Ren is in the area; if we can take him out using Henri's own Noble Arm, you can use your own trump card, First Lieutenant Alonso."
The last three words were said with some affection as Myron continued, "My Noble Arm can take us to the staging point at the last minute, but we should not rely on Arms Masters' transportation abilities alone - Not even mine. So are we going to fly to the staging point - Wan Hkung - the hard way or are we going to use my abilities? Both carry risks; the first is interception and the second is overreliance."
