We are all writing Fanfiction here, and there is not a thing wrong with it.

Sure! I totally agree.

However, since 2013, these games with each passing year have gotten less interactive, less collaborative, and less concerned with the shared universe element. They became rather isolated, like we were simply using the games to host a few chapters of stories disconnected with one another, with no connective tissue, and strict lines in the sand about interaction and strict parentage. That is not, in my mind, in the spirit of role-play. That aside, yeah, coming into a thread and being dismissive of the fic writer approach isn’t good either. I’ve always argued there needs to be a balance between the two schools; the two philosophies of independent/solo writer and role-player. I know for a fact multiple people don’t even read other people’s posts, so at that point, that is a problem.

Before the exodus of players, I think we did a good job of getting back to that balance. Events in other posts have been mentioned, collaborative posts have brought in different people to conclude situations, and we had a really good pace of play as well. This RP has been the strongest in terms of activity and interplay we’ve seen in a few years, so it is good to see.

Now how that shakes going forward, well, we’ll have to see.

Without giving away too much, I'm writing a sheet for a character with the goal of forming a Justice League, although not straight away. I'm going to have a few storylines with them, and hopefully a few collabs with people before anything gets formed. I think a large scale event somewhere down the line would be best to unite everyone rather than just at random.

I think my argument is mostly that we should pace ourselves, especially given the new circumstances. Let's get our ducks in a row before hatching more eggs.
I should've clarified more. That's my fault. They'll be happening, but not yet. Not until some time passes and after the Justice League is formed(which shouldn't take long after Half Pint and I discussed some things).

I know the RP takes precedence, but especially given our current hemorrhaging of a roster we really should not rush such team formations.
He’ll be a part of the Titans.

We don't even have a Justice League or Avengers. I would advise against this, but I am only a player.
Nowadays you could probably just ask ChatGPT Jarvis to do it.

Hilarious.
That does seem like a good thing to consider, especially with the characters that have left that actually left effects on the rest of the story.

When I joined Ultimate DC in 2013, one thing drew me to it over other RPs. It wasn’t solitary writing. It wasn’t the mere concept of interpreting a comic book character. What drew me to it was that it had its own continuity and somewhat stuck to it. If characters took their leave, they left their mark and the next writer had to pick up where the last one left it. It was like a comic book writer taking over from another. Ironic, I know, given I haven’t exactly done that as Batman here.

But I think that’s what stuck with me. It was its own universe and the idea was every season things built into its own separate thing. This didn’t pan out with Guildfall obviously but it is something I think about often. If we want these games to have actual legs in the future: discernable mileage, we need to have people playing characters that matter and hold weight. Addressing this and roleplay philosophy is crucial. I would recommend better organization is the first start to this.
Yeah taking part in a shared comic universe to me is most of the fun of these RPs so certainly events/facts for NPCs and such should be maintained, it's definitely a balance. I just think particularly for new recruitment we could stand to be flexible with characters we aren't actually playing.

I think at this point, even prior to the departures of certain players, that the foundation we have is more or less held together with duct tape and some staples. There is always time to shore up things and make sure the foundation for these in-universe lore is maintained and I think @Half Pint should consider a section of the OOC devoted to events that unfolded to the RP that are canonized (as well as characters). I did this with my attempts at shared comic games almost a decade ago and it was one of the good things about those games I hosted.

The Batman had arrived in Robinson Park to no fanfare.

Only violence.

It was a currency that he was happy to endorse.

The kind of hatred the men who claimed the “purifier” title embodied, it was pure and hot, the kind of fuel that burned clean with very little to stop it once it stoked a flame. There was only one way to stop Robinson Park from being turned into ash. The sight of the Batmobile had scattered the Purifiers like ants, but the few who remained steadfast received the wrath of Gotham’s protector with ruthless efficiency.

Batgirl, the vigilante’s troubled niece, was there to join him.

“You did well.” He remarked, “But you should be smarter.”

“You say that every time.”

“When you start listening, I’ll stop saying it.”

The sound of metal meeting earth paused the duo’s brief conversation. As they turned, in the silhouette of the night they saw it as clear as day.

The Purifiers had brought something outside of guns and improvised weapons, after all.

“Move!”

An electronic hum, distorted and unseemly before a loud ‘thwoom’ exited the device’s maw as a beam of energy ripped through the park, hitting a structure in the background. The two vigilantes dodging with quick motion.

Where and how did a group like this get their hands on a mech?
Ended up tossing some of my other stuff out for this post. Post isn't up to my usual standard but it is November and life is life. Allows Kindred to get back to it and whatever else. I get home really latte on Mondays, so this is how my energy shakes out.

Also, I will probably edit this post a few times when I have the time.

First of all, how dare you.

What about second of all?
