2) Ensure you are the legal age of 18 before you participate in any mature roleplays. The staff have and will continue to ban any users who actively choose to partake in a roleplay involving a minor.

Mentioned above but formatting makes a massive difference. If anything I'd say it's the one factor that will kill ANY roleplay if it's not done correctly. Headings that pop, readable paragraphs, and an ease to find information is key. You want people to join so take some time to give it a gloss over in style.

Example: Site Rules

Indent tags, headers, lists, and a colour tag. It is so basic and yet it just appears nice and readable. If you have an RP in the works and need some advice for style, I'm only a PM away.

But let's say you have all that then, like @ArenaSnow said, use themes that are popular at the time and ideas that people seem interested in.

Example: Wanna make a Star Wars RP? Then don't do it now...
Create it and hold onto it til December this year.
Why?
Because the new movie—The Last Jedi—will be out, and I can bet people will be flooding over any decent Star Wars RP around that time period.

Lastly, if you do wanna create a unique roleplay, be prepared to repost it at a later date if you don't get the attention you need. I've done it before where I've posted the same interest check months apart and gotten two different results. You only need to look at what happens during 1x1 interest check bumps to see how timing can matter.
Welcome to the forum! Can't remember what I was searching for exactly when I first found RPG but Google did bring me here. :D

If you need any help just be sure to ask. Also, check out the Articles and Guides section if you're new. Lots of good stuff there.
I do think some people don't know when to stop their writing and let the imagination of the reader take over, while others will write out the scenes to a point where it feels like the writer is getting a hard on. Whether it's sexual scenes, racism, torture, and other sort of triggers, you don't need to go into the detail to create a good quality scene without it coming across as trash.

Good example of this can be seen in Reservoir Dogs with the ear cutting torture scene. You actually do not see the damage inflicted but you see the pre-emptive actions and the resulting dismembered ear. Compare this movie to something like Saw and you can see how Saw just creates a gore fest by simply relishing and showing how it disfigures and kills it's characters. Sometimes you do need to push the boundaries but you need to understand your audience.

That brings us back to the forums and the taste of each player. You may want to create some of these darker themes but you have to remember that you are writing to a certain demographic. Just because the Roleplay is a theme like horror does not mean that each player wants to have to read about heads getting split open, brains popping out, or any other gnarly stuff.

(Btw, general torture is easier to speak about since it's a theme most people can understand and know where their own reading limits lie. Sexual scenes is something way more difficult and different due to how I've seen ideas from normal romance to rape, BDSM, tentacles, and even torture filled snuff. + Need to be careful about some discussions on the public side of the forum.)

This is not the first time I've seen a comment like this, But I still don't understand it. I know some artists would frown upon someone taking their work and editing it. But those same artists are usually rather adamant about having their work posted anywhere by someone that isn't them. I'm genuinely curious where the extra harm comes from.

So I used to help out on a graphics forum and occasionally we would have the odd person that would use an image where the original artist would show up and complain about the edits. After all this time — talking like 7 or 8 years of seeing images being tampered with — I have yet to see anyone cop any serious consequences. The images aren't being sold and they are only being used as character inspirations for a hobby writing site.

But really, if anyone did show up here claiming their artwork was stolen then they really don't have much to do in their life. They're not going to honestly get money out of the user, moderators can't exactly edit posts to remove the images, and if they start harassing users we'll refer them to the rules. It's their choice to put the image up on the web without watermarks and imagery locks (see deviantART, Shutterstock, and iStock), so until they do that people will keep on editing images for their make-believe characters 'til the end of time.

Did you know I was user number 7 on the NewGuild?

Enjoy my new avatar too btw.

So @Hank is twice the man you are?
Been neglecting this for a bit so I'll remedy that soon with another post. Sadly work and other crap took priority and I haven't had a chance to sit down for a chunk of time to read over and write up something.

No predictions on when but hopefully it wont be too long.

@Lady Amalthea A "Previous Username" would be a good option to help with some clarity, but we only allow one change every 3 months so if someone does change they have to hold that name for a generous amount of time.

Not many people will know their number, except @Kangaroo who I have seen brag about being number 7.
