2) Ensure you are the legal age of 18 before you participate in any mature roleplays. The staff have and will continue to ban any users who actively choose to partake in a roleplay involving a minor.

It isn't.

I'm a bisexual woman and I Roleplay with all genders equally. When I was younger, I might have been more inclined to Roleplay with females though. My reasons would be entirely comfort based as I was sexually abused by a male as a child and encountered (vastly male) perverts while on the internet which was a little scary for a thirteen-year-old. In my opinion, abuse and bad experiences are entirely valid reasons to request NOT Roleplaying with one gender.

Could it be ignorant? Yes, it can be. We still have to remember that the Guild does cater to a wide range of ages and backgrounds, however, and we should at least attempt to be open-minded. If someone requests to only Roleplay with one gender, then that is entirely their choice. Roleplayers have the right to preferences, after all.

To start off, I'm really sorry to learn that you got abused when younger. So my sympathies go to you.

That said, this is a reason (I never thought of) as to why people may be selective and both sexist. As you said you were wary of makes, and as much as that is a reason there are 100 more that fit this category of thinking and are not necessarily sexist. Yes it may limits one's options but there's no point in placing your personal self in an uncomfortable state just because others say that you must treat all equally.
@Altered TundraAs evidenced by this very thread, some people change their minds and are willing to let go of these kinds of restrictions. It's not like the discussion isn't worth having just because most people aren't going to flip sides.

I do think these discussions are very necessary and it also allows people to vent out frustrations that may be built up over months or years. To be really truthful, I had no idea what gender identity was until maybe 18 months ago, pushing up to two years. I'm thirty and and for up to 28 years male is male, female is female, gays are fags, V8s, beers, burnouts, fucken sick Australia brosky, bla, bla, bla. We had a national survey recently on whether homosexuals should be allowed to marry and the propaganda and confusion was through the roof, not to mentioned it cost billions because the government can't make up their mind. I will say I ended up letting my sister fill out my form cause she's more logical in these situations and her opinion was probably better than mine as I was on the fence about it.

So it is hard for me in some cases to understand what the problem is because we do have a specific culture in Australia and any sexism debates here are actually a newer thing (or completely ignored), and I can say that I'm only half an hour from bogan central which is equivalent to your US rednecks.

So pretty much, my view is something that could change in the future, but it may not be something that will change overnight due to a few people's opinions. Afterall we are constantly learning and have to adjust and understand these views at our own, personal pace.
One of the best writer's I had was I assumed female, but to be honest I don't really know cause we branched into all sorts of areas across the total of four roleplays. Unfortunately they left due to some personal reasoning but I am always waiting for their return because they were such an amazing writer, no matter what gender they were.

However I'll repeat my question with a yes or no answer... Is it wrong for me to make a choice on a writer based on a gender?

My point is that no matter what you answer your talking about how I should not be allowed the freedom of choice, that I must be restricted to every possibility and must take everything that comes our way. You have also basically compared me and others to sex offenders who crave for clit pics just to prove your point.

I'm not trying to put you on the spot, but how is having a choice on who you write with connected with the desire to sexually harass someone?
<Snipped quote by NuttsnBolts>

We are in 100% agreement on this.

So then I ask, as a simple and basic question with no extra padding or information... Is it wrong for me to ask if I can write with another writer of a particular gender?
<Snipped quote by ArenaSnow>

I agree with you there. There's no real way to verify this but at least if I specify that I only do sex RPs with adults and someone lies to me about their age it's their fault not mine if they don't like what they are reading.

Someone going out of their way to RP with a minor or a minor lying about their age is completely different; it's a legal issue. Someone lying about their gender is not a legal issue. That's where those two are different, and until it's illegal, or against the site rules, to choose to roleplay with a specified gender (male, female, unknown, both, tentacles, etc) people are going to make all sorts of requests.
@NuttsnBolts So as a man who plays woman 90% of the time, you seek out girls for 1x1 RPs the few times you wanna play a dude? Surely I'm not the only one who sees the irony here. (I still like you nutty, never change <3)

You're the only one that picked up on that?
@SleepingSilence
Last warning. Are you going to return to the topic of politics or do you want to continue your current choice of discussion?

If you have something you wish to report that violates the rules, this is not the correct channel to raise such an issue.
I disagree with you, Nutts. In my experience some of the best romance/fluffy RPers have turned out to be gay men, and some of the most aggressive battle-oriented players have turned out to be chicks.

I agree with you, some gay men are amazing romance writers, and some females love their violent action. I did a 1x1 with a female writer that was nothing short of zombies, blood, gore, and killing. I'm not stating that these people don't exist.

@Chasebloodcrest actually said it well, but it's simply a freedom of choice and what some people look for is very different than what others look for. If someone has written with 10 female writers then maybe they want to write with someone male for a change and will state they are looking for a male writer. That's not sexist, that's looking for a choice.

I am also waiting to hear how people actually verify the gender of their RP partners.

I dunno... maybe you can simply talk to them like a normal human being instead of asking for their clit size. Discuss the RP, start the IC, get a few post in and find out your partner is a female with 3 children. Find out they have a certain profession or they are going through college.
But more selfishly, I just want to piss people off for my mere existence here, because it makes the shit they say about me ten times funnier.

Adding a strikethrough around a sentence does not change the fact that you wrote such a sentence. It does not give you pardon from the rules and if you are actively trolling to obtain shits and giggles, then I will strongly recommend that you cease at once.

Aside from that comment and looking back through, I can see the discussion is slowly getting more and more heated, moving from a topic of politics to in a few cases outright slander and abuse against other members. This is to stop at once and the the topic will revert back to original political discussion. If it does not then I will be locking the thread in order to maintain a suitable level of peace and to prevent a reason for me to look for my ban hammer. It's very dusty at the moment and I like it that way.
Playing devil's advocate here but some people may feel comfortable writing with a certain gendered individual, or even discussing certain ideas. The statement of "this isn't a dating site" is correct, but does broadening your horizons with who you talk to requires that you must be open to all individuals?

To give an example, in my characters I tend to play a female role. Probably 80-90% of my characters turn out female. On the odd occasion I will have an interest in playing a male role and the first priority I set is to find a female player with a decent idea for a story. This isn't for smut reasons or adult matchmaker, but a female player will most likely play a female role, which works out well for a M/F character pairing.

Generally speaking you will also find different gendered writers will write differently. Language, mannerisms, introduction of life experiences into the story; a male will typically lean towards adventures and action, whereas a female will learn more towards romance.

Taking those two points into account, let's say I want to write a non action rp—maybe something with a little romance and less macho... I'd probably be on the lookout for a female writer. This isn't anything to do with sexism, misogyny, or even gender equality; it's about obtaining what I want and need to achieve a story that I want to write. If that so happens to mean that I have to restrict my preferences to a writers gender and it's going to improve the odds of finding a pairing that I'm happy with, then that's what I will do.
