Kira had made the decision and searched for the Ambran guard to turn in George. The drug smuggler, however, was not at all upset that his offer was refused and that the Beelzebub went out to serve him justice. He merely gave Freyr a shrug, as if what was going to happen to him was a minor incovenience.

------

George did not, at all, resist when the town guard apprehended and cuffed him. Before he was loaded into the prison wagon, he was allowed some parting words with Freyr and Kira. "I see you guild people have very strict morals. That is good. Morals make people good. Anyway, I see you two again!" He bode farewell to the guild members, his spirits still up despite going to jail. "I have more jobs for you in the future, including a contact that could help us. Keep an eye for my requests on your board!"

And with that, the smuggler was arrested and the guild members were awarded. The quest was done. Freyr and Kira can head back to the guild, or they could do something else if they so desire.

It was now dusk, blanketing the town of Ambran with a beautiful orange light. The setting sun meant the day was nearing its end, but the bustling town was still very much alive with activity.

"Enough of that though, I want to thank you for introducing me to him. You need any help today? I can even get into that dress of yours and try to get a few converts or alms outside. I, after all, came from a temple of monks."
Yang Bethlehem

Riñas chuckled at your recount of events. "Sounds like you had quite the time with Sir Nero. It also sounds like he is quite the formidable warrior. I'll note that."

"Anyway, I thank you for the offer but I'm afraid I must decline. Sorry." Riñas bowed her head in apology. "We need no assistance as of now and besides, I don't think you're the type to like trying to get converts to the Fallen God. Unless you want to join us in seducing men with the prospect of eternal pleasure, drowning in sex forever in the realm of Pandemonium."

"However, I do want to give you this." Riñas gave you a piece of paper. It was a flyer, advertising for some unknown competition that will take place in Boreal Port as part of a local celebration. "Take that back to your guild and see if anyone's interested. Maybe all of you can come." She gave you a happy smile.

"Oh? Looking for party members? What a coincidence, so am I! What's the quest? I would love to join you both!"
Maribel Eclipse

It was as if she spoke of the devil, Maribel Eclipse entered the conversation with a request to join. Jane's heart dropped and allowed Léon to respond to her.

Jane did not even bother thinking about how to exclude Maribel from the party. It was practically guaranteed that the Mayonite Paladin was going with them. All Jane thought about now was how to not give herself away to not one, but two Mayonites for the entirety of this job. She cursed silently. How did things end up like this? She should have just flat out refused Léon. She could still, all she needed to do was spin a believable lie.

But Jane felt abandoning them now would be of bad taste and besides, either of them could suspect something and Jane could not risk that. She was all in on this job now. Hopefully, everything would go smoothly and the party can go back into being strangers.

"Do either of you have any thoughts or concerns about this mission, or any ideas on who we ought to bring along as our fourth party member?"
Léon Reverdin

Jane took a glance at the adventurers. It looked like every one of them has already joined a party and taken a job. "...I don't know who else is available." Jane remarked honestly. Conveniently, it was also a way to keep the party from expanding.
I'm a wait again for @FlappyTheSpybot before posting since I have no idea what I can have Jarde do save for react at the commotion.

Now, now. If the RP's too slow for his liking, then that's his preference. Nothing we can do about it. Let us not shame players for their preferred posting speed.

"The other thing is that this is what they know. Death is inevitable so they have to seriously weigh what they consider to be a life worth living. For many of them, living and dying for a greater purpose allows them to not have regrets. Perhaps I can introduce you to human literature. Since they evolved sentience, they have told tales of heroism. In a way, to have people tell stories of your bravery for generations to come was, to them, a form of immortality, perhaps the only form of immortality they can attain. You can think of it like vicarious memory preservation."
Hyouka

"..." Camille was silent. You see that she was visibly struggling to grasp the logic you laid out. After a sigh, she gave up. "...I don't think I'll ever understand them." She finished.

------

The caravan resumed its trip to Guillian and was without further incident, arriving at dusk. The setting sun colored the sky orange as light slowly dissipated to make way for the darkness of night.

Upon reaching the destination, Hospitaller Gordian thanked you and Camille for helping on this job and wired some monetary compensation to your accounts. After saying farewells, you and Camille were now out here in the city of Guillian. The orange robot reminded you that you promised to join her in repairing her broken minigun-club and so, the two of you went out into the city in search of a mechanic or repairman.

"With the money from the job, maybe I'll add in a few upgrades to my weapon. Perhaps a few spikes here and there so it'll be better in melee." Camille mused. She seemed happier and less shy than she was previously in the caravan. Was the presence of humans truly have that effect on her? Or perhaps she just got to know you better. "But I know someone from Sanginum who's already worked on my weapon. Maybe we should just head back there, but then I won't have a weapon until then. What do you think, Hyouka?"

Night had already settled and the streetlights and buildings of Guillian lit up to illuminate the city. Something else also lit up, you see Camille twitch her eyes away from you. "Hey Hyouka, did we really fight a small, green robot with a cape?" She suddenly asked. "A... friend of mine says he's someone famous."

A single shot to the head was enough to finally take down the alien on Dia. The remaining alien, looking like it was going to join the fight, did something else entirely.

It sat on the cockpit and used its multiple arms to take control of the craft. It was, effectively, the pilot of the VTOL. How was it able to do that? How was an alien creature that never knew a vehicle in its life able to pilot aircraft? Dia quickly moved in after the brief sense of wonder passed. At least attempted to, she was too damaged to move any further. "Visalz, you need to kill it... and take back control..." She muttered.

It took little effort to take back control. The alien was too busy stabilizing the VTOL to notice you taking aim at its head and blowing it to bits.

The craft was successfully taken back. You were in control of the VTOL now, or what was left of it anyway. The scuffle earlier had damaged the craft's controls and the heat coming in from the shattered windshield threatened what integrity the VTOL had left. In fact, sitting on the cockpit meant you had to face the scorching temperatures yourself.

"The VTOL's not gonna last long." Dia remarked, sitting hapless in the back. "Do you think it can still be repaired... or is it a lost cause."

It was a particularly snowy season this time around in Wizdom, snowflakes dropping from the sky for several days straight. It was expected a blizzard might hit in a couple of weeks but the cities of Wizdom were no stranger to snowstorms. Still, outside temperatures were below zero but that only hindered the daily activities a little, the humans and robots of Wizdom simply putting an extra layer of clothing until it was warm enough.

You were summoned to a military base in the outskirts of Wizdom's capital city, Corax, located in the middle of the planet. Upon arriving there, you found that the base was active with personnel but you were welcomed inside and were told to go to a specific hangar inside. Most of the hangars in the base were closed and inactive save for the one you were going into. The hangar was busy, with military robots moving and building and inspecting. A familiar robot, a petite one with pink hair and pink clothes barked orders to the robots. Whatever the operation was, Icey lead it. The leader of Wizdom herself.

Upon seeing you, she waved you over. "Over here! Come here!" Icey then began. "I hope you don't mind being called here from your home but you have been pretty idle for a long time. I decided to get your gears a little bit running with this op." She then began the briefing. "You see, we've received reports that a particular group of robot pirates are growing pretty powerful. Maybe powerful enough to threaten a city. Their presence is intimidating settlers from expanding and so they will need to be terminated with extreme prejudice."

"But before we deal with this menace, we must first learn the actual strength of this pirate group so we can formulate a battle plan that will minimize, or maybe eliminate, the losses we will incur once we fight them." Icey concluded. "That is why you are here. You and two more others, will go to the pirates' predicted base of operations and scout them out. Learn as much as you can, how many there are, who's leading them, that sort of thing."

"So, are you up for the job?"

"I appreciate it, Jane, but I suppose I wouldn't feel right about getting first peek at them before they're posted. I try not to worry too much about getting to jobs first. Being a Cup, it's easy enough to find a group in need of my talents. Tell you what, I'll take a look at the ones you already put on the board. Hopefully there'll be something suitable for 4's like us. You're welcome to any of my food in the meantime."
Léon Reverdin

Jane said nothing in reply as Léon took off. She let out a sigh of relief, finally being alone once more and a little bit safe. She doubted the Mayonite would come back, he would probably be invited into a party and head off to an adventure, completely forgetting about her. And Jane was fine with that, the last thing she wanted was for him or someone else to drag her off to an adventure. Normally there would be nothing wrong with that but if her party gets even a glimpse of who Jane truly was, she would be in a world of trouble.

There was still a lot of activity at the quest board. Jane wondered what she would do for the day. She could continue helping out in domestic matters but she could feel the guild staff was almost to the point of telling her to go adventuring instead of trying to take over their jobs. And that would bring unwanted attention. Perhaps she would just hunt large rats again in the sewers. Jane was tired of that quest but what else could she do? It was also one of the few quests that you were allowed to go alone.

But then she saw Léon approaching her once more and Jane almost cried.

"Remember how I said I was just content to wait till others ask me to come along on a job? Well I was wrong, they posted a job from the Church to excavate artifacts from a recently rediscovered monastary ruin, and I feel it's my duty as a cleric of Mayon to ensure that this job is fulfilled. I won't be able to do it without a decent party, however, and I haven't seen you mingling with the others, would you like to join after you've finished posting the next batch of jobs? I could use a Sword, and could also use some help putting a party together."
Léon Reverdin

Jane did not know what to say. If she agreed, she would be in a company of maybe three or more adventurers. That would be too much people around her. No doubt they would attempt to talk to her and she would need to spin lie after lie after lie. Soon, she would likely slip a truth in there and that would lead to a world of trouble for Jane.

On the other hand, if she flat-out refused then Léon might get suspicious and that would also lead into a world of problems. Perhaps she can make him back out of his own accord.

"I can go, sure, but are you certain you want me?" Jane responded. "I may be a Four of Swords but you know that that's because I'm only slightly better than a Three. And look at that job..." She pointed at the request paper. "It says that novices should stay clear. And now while we both are Fours, that doesn't mean we're on the same level. I'm clearly lower than you, still a novice that's just a bit better than the rest."

She felt a pang of regret at coldly rebuffing Léon. In an attempt to alleviate some of that, Jane decided to ask. "...So who else do you want to come along with on this?"

"Are you seriously suggesting that we let him go? What if this gets back to the Guild? It could really hurt our rep!"
Kira Gigas

"Hey no. I am professional. I protect those I employ. Is how I got far in this business." George retorted at the Beelzebub. "Look, is highly unlikely but if I get caught, I just say you were simply hired guards. Completely unrelated to my business. Or better yet, I just say you were not here at all. That way, no one suspect you. Very professional, yes?"

"Look, I am already paying you way beyond the original reward. I also keep your identities secret. Is that so much to ask for harmless drugs?"

George had made his offer. Freyr and Kira had yet to reach a verdict but they must make one soon or else someone might walk upon them and get the wrong conclusions.

"Sir Nero, do you think some of your own compatriots survived like you did?"
Yang Bethlehem

"Yeah. I'm pretty sure a lot of us got away." Nero replied. "But we're scattered and no doubt growing fewer everyday."

"Sir Nero, I have a disciple that I'm training at the moment. In the future, I might bring her here for some supplementary training. If that's alright with you."
Yang Bethlehem

"That's alright with me, sure, but just so you know I'm not a good teacher. I'm more of applying lessons learned than passing them to someone else, if you get what I'm saying." Nero said. "But... I'll do my best to help. Just let me know when, okay?"

You return to the church and with a knock on its wooden doors, Riñas the Dark Priest appeared to answer it. "Oh, it's you. You're that one who was looking for that retired warrior. I heard he accepted your challenge. Which was strange because when he first got here, he was asked to train the town guard which he adamantly refused saying he had sworn off violence."

"So, how'd your duel go? And how did you coax him into fighting you?" Riñas asked, quite curious.

That's What Friends Do

Neil clicked his tongue. "I have a bad feeling about this. But let's do it."

------

~@Stern Algorithm, @Restalaan (DIT)~

The Altissima sisters dug a tunnel beneath the soil of the church and cemetery grounds. The soil was not that hard, making the work of the Liliraune easy. Everything was going smoothly, at least for now.

Ditzy and Neil followed the sisters closely and they made good headway through the recently-dug underground. "Hmmm..." Neil began, looking back at the long tunnel that the Altissima sisters made. "I'm glad that the soil's still strong enough to--"

*RUMBLE* *CRASH*

The party had to cover their eyes from the wave of dust that came at them. When they opened their eyes, behind them was a dozen and more Zombies. The soil was already disturbed by the rising of the undead and now, the Liliraune had hollowed out the deeper parts. The collective weight of the Zombies above was the last straw, the soil gave way under the undead monsters and right behind the party.

Fortunately or unfortunately, one of the Zombies that fell was the burly Zombie holding the map. She was well-toned, short white hair and had other masculine features. She may have been male when she was buried but regardless, her height rose above the other Zombies. The fall, however, made her lose her grasp on the map and she and the other Zombies were dazed by the collapse.

"Sylvia! Vivian! Dig up!" Neil yelled at the Liliraune. "Dig up now!"

Neil dashed past Ditzy and towards the dazed undead. He grabbed the map and dashed back. But a hand hooked to his shoulder, stopping his attempt. The arm belonged to the strong Zombie and now the others descended upon the hapless boy. Thinking quickly, Neil crumpled the map a bit and tossed it at Ditzy. "Go! I'll hold them off! Go! JUST GO!"

The Zombies began overwhelming Neil as he attempted to push back. Everyone knew his efforts would be fruitless, not only were the Zombies stronger than him but more were dropping from the hole.

~@ShwiggityShwah, @13org (ADA)~

Ada was dropped off at a safe distance from the horde while Ozzy called out to the Zombies. The plan was working so far, a portion of the Zombie herd was lured away by the Owl Harpy.

*RUMBLE* *CRASH*

But the plan quickly went sideways when Ozzy a patch of the undead Horde suddenly drop down when the soil beneath them collapsed. It did not take long for the Owl Harpy to realize that the ground giving way was because of the Altissima sisters' tunnel. The Zombies began descending into the hole and likely harassing the other guild members.

There was still a portion of Zombies attempting to follow Ozzy, some of whom were going for Ada. The situation was going downhill.

Jarde was glad that Violette had enjoyed meeting the Naga knight, though she may not admit it. Fortunately, Maritza indulged the noble girl's curiosities, telling of her time in the east and encountering all sorts of exotic creatures there. She even had an exciting tale about a run-in with a Manticore that she was willing to share. Jarde said nothing and let the conversation between Maritza and Violette talk uninterrupted.

Unlike the other knights, Jarde was oblivious to suspicious happenings in the ball. There was a feeling, a gut instinct tugging at the back of his head but the previous stress of earlier events buried all that. The anxiety of hidden danger had mixed with that of being a nobody in a ball of nobility.

However, Jarde did spot something shady. A pair of individuals. One was a young girl with blue pigtails, seemingly similar in age with Violette. She may not be suspicious alone but beside her was a tall knight with completely black armor. They did not appear to be normal nobles in this ball but what did Jarde know about that? He was wary of them, sparing glances at the duo, but he said nothing. Maybe they were nobles themselves, just not a typical one.

Jane's heart almost stopped when a figure loomed over her. She beheld the person and recognized him as Léon Reverdin. How couldn't she? He was a devout follower of Mayon, same as her... once. There was a number of Mayonites right here in the Adventurer's Guild but this Léon was one she knew. There was another, a girl of red hair. What was her name again? Maribel? Yeah, that was it.

It pained Jane that she could not talk to them about Mayon. What pained her more was that they could be privy to very dangerous details. It was well-known back in Thaln that Guard Captain Rosalor Heldt was an ardent believer of Mayon and her teachings. To be a Mayonite and also a criminal would be quite the news for the Church, and no doubt it would spread across the lands through all its branches. She cannot not be careless around Léon and the other Mayonites.

As Léon began setting down the fruits from his basket, Jane tightly grasped her papers in abject fear. He was also gripping that Mayon symbol on him. No doubt that it was a prayer, but for what? Jane suspected the worst. It was illogical, sure, but not impossible. Besides, he could very well explain the situation. But for her? It would be the end.

"Good morning, Jane,"
Léon Reverdin

Jane said nothing in return, still gripping the quest papers. Her breathing steadied as she readied herself, her gaze at Léon unbroken. She looked at him as if they were going to pounce on each other, not knowing that he probably did not share the sentiment.

"Are you hungry? Would you care for some food?"
Léon Reverdin

Silence reigned for several awkward moments but Jane eventually replied. "N-No. I've... already eaten." Her voice was meek but loud enough for Léon to hear. Her grip on the papers loosened. Maybe he did not know anything, completely ignorant to her past. "These are the uhh, more quests for the board. Would you-- like to take a look at them?" She gave the stack of papers a gentle pat.
