...so weirdly I've got a bunny samurai guy (made before I knew that Usagi Yojimbo was a thing) that I kind of wished worked in this setting.

Rakshasas are pretty common in hindu mythology, Buddhism etc...
It makes some appearances on RPGs like D&D, TCGs like Magic The Gathering etc.
See, my question was are you going to be doing a completely tiger person Rakshasa. That's a lot more work than, say, a kitsune or something that can just hide the offending appendages. <.<
