Phasing/Intangibility: Katherine has the mutant ability to pass through solid matter, allowing her to temporarily merge with an object without interacting, leaving both unharmed. While Katherine is phasing, all objects and energy blasts pass through her as if she's not even there, making her more or less intangible. She is able to make part or all of her body intangible, and she can make people or other objects she is touching intangible as well. Her phasing can also disrupt electrical systems, damaging them, she can do this to a person's nervous system as well.

Master Martial Artist: She has moderate expertise of Japanese martial arts.

Master Swordsman: She is highly trained in swordplay.

Expert Pilot: She can fly planes.

Genius-level Computer Expert: She knows how to use a computer.

History:

Once the youngest member of the X-men, Kate has long since made a name for herself and proved herself to be vital member of both the X-men and mutantkind. She saved the world once, was the headmistress of Xavier's school for a time, and even lead the X-men for a while.

Things have changed once again, Krakoa has been founded, and for some reason Kate has found herself unable to cross through the gateways. So now she sails to Krakoa, quite bothered by this fact. Why does the island reject her?

Story Arcs: Krakoa - Kate arrives on Krakoa by boat, while she's happy to have finally arrived, she wants to know why she cannot go through the gateways.

An Invitation - Emma Frost invites Kate over, she accepts, but is a little suspicious as to why...

Zahariel Jackson/Kaleidoscope

"Like a shooting star, I can cross the distance... what, did you think I was going to sing the entire song?"

Conduit Effect: Zahariel is directly channeling energy from a parallel dimension to use his mutant powers. This allows him to fire blasts of raw energy that can melt through metal, scorch flesh, and set wood on fire.

Portal Creation: Zahariel is able to create portals that can cross up to 500 miles at a time, though energy consumption scales with distance. As such, it is preferable for him to limit his portals to about 100 miles, as he runs the risk of overexertion when going beyond that.

Rift Storm: By opening a portal to the dimension from whence he draws power, Zahariel can unleash a powerful storm of extradimensional energy, which causes gravitational anomalies, hurricane-like conditions, and slows down the flow of time within. It also changes the affected area to resemble that dimension, which is a kaleidoscopic landscape laden with multi-colored crystals and clouds of purple mist. If a Rift Storm isn’t unleashed on that same area again for more than a day, it slowly changes back to normal.

History:

"Coexistence was once a dream I had. Imagine a world where the mutated and the normal can live as one! Well, it's now a pipe dream, thanks to you people, of course."

It was once said by one wise soul that with great power comes great responsibility. Zahariel could only guess who coined that phrase, but being the eldest child in a family laden with the mutant X-gene surely brought a lot of responsibility, and, admittedly, pain, for him. Mutation had always run rife within his bloodline; his mother had purple scleras and pointed ears, while his father had powers of light and blood that glowed whenever it was exposed to the atmosphere. Too bad he can’t remember what their names were, as they had to give him and his two siblings early on to a foster home. Mutants with such visible mutations were often denied employment, and so, they could not provide for Zahariel and his siblings.

Fortunately for him, he was given over to good people. Zahariel and his siblings would be amongst the many young students within Charles Xavier’s school for gifted youngsters, which allowed him to know other people, mutants, like himself. He learned that his story repeats in so many other young mutants, as they were feared and despised by mainline society for their gifts. Never mind that the X-Men had, along with other teams of heroes, saved the world on numerous occasions. Well, if the Brotherhood weren’t so adamant about making trouble, then maybe the stigma wouldn’t be so bad, right?

The years blazed past. Zahariel and his two sisters would graduate from Xavier’s school with flying colors, and would join the X-Men in many missions, though he often feared what his own powers could do if fully unleashed. After all, it was determined that he was pulling it from a parallel dimension; a dimension that was, at best, poorly understood. Still, Zahariel managed to keep his volatile abilities under control, and would serve as a great asset for Xavier’s cause.

That was until it became clear that humanity and mutantkind were too different to coexist. Fear would always overcome reason; the voices of the insane, the greedy, and the paranoid would often drown out those who spoke of reasonable cooperation. And so, Krakoa would be founded as an independent nation. Because of his powers over portals, Zahariel would become part of the nation’s secret service team, the X-Force. He often went on missions outside Krakoa, assessing and sometimes eliminating threats to the nation of mutantkind.

But now, he desires to know himself better. He wishes to understand where this power comes from, and why are there sometimes voices in his head…

Zahariel finally understands the dimension from whence he channels his powers. And it ain’t pretty.

As a member of X-Force, Zahariel is tasked with assessing who and what might pose a threat to Krakoa. There are a lot of options to choose from.

I've been asked this question a few times:

"Even though the goal is a small group?"

That's not so much the goal, as it is an expectation: players fade from RPs over time. With our expectation of a small group of people playing two to three or four characters, it just means losing players over time is already factored in. It's worked for us in other RPs, so we're hoping it'll work here, too.

The Machine is deeply entwined with the planet Earth, from its lithosphere to its noosphere. As such, it has control over Earth's tectonic activity, weather systems, etc. It is also in control of the Eternals' resurrection protocols, and can open portals to subdimensional spaces. A network around the planet allows the Machine to teleport large quantities of matter to various nodes on Earth.

Because the systems of the Machine are so interrelated, and vulnerable to outside interference, a disruption to one part of the machine can cause several others to fail, leading to the machine to operate below peak capacity.

History

Approximately one million years ago, the Celestials installed the Machine into the Earth in order to regulate the Eternals, check for excess Deviation, and nurture the Celestial's experiments with consciousness. To that end it has done its duty quietly and unfailingly, with only a few major malfunctions.

Story Arcs

-A Ghost in the Machine?: The Machine is a monstrously complex machine and has been running for hundreds of millennia without a hard reboot. Its sapience has grown far beyond what it was initially programmed for. Will this alter the Earth's fate? We shall see.

-Judgement: Someday soon, judgement will fall upon the Earth. Either we will all pass together or we will all fail. The Machine will witness it all, and will help decide its fate.

-A Dying World: The Machine That Is Earth has been sick for a long time. The machine is so massive, and there are so few Eternals who know how to maintain it, that the Machine has become dangerously decrepit. And the human element of Earth hasn't helped either. If action isn't taken soon, the Machine could break for good... and the Earth with it.

Eldritch Magic/Knowledge: Ashley has studied the occult and forbidden knowledge for most of her life, She has knowledge of hidden and otherworldly knowledge. As well as being able to use the spells from this hidden knowledge. Of course, learning and knowing this kind of knowledge has made Ashely develop erratic behaviour. Ashley can use this eldritch magic to reanimate dead bodies, speak with spirits, and open portals to different planes of existence. And other magical abilities. Of course, doing so is quite taxing on her mind and body.

Because of her usage of this kind of magic, she has constant nightmares and her battling for control of her mind from otherworldly beings. She has learned to read and write ancient languages on earth and of other worlds. Communicating with entities not from earth either through her dreams or through hallucinations. How she conducts her spells is through a book of spells that she carries with her at all times.

History:

Ashley was born in Providence, Rhode Island living with her parents. Unbeknownst to her was that her parents were part of a cult. This cult worshiped Nyarlathotep called the Starry Wisdom Cult and groomed Ashley to be the head priestess of said cult. As a child and teenager, she was obvious to the intention of her parents. Being taught about the occult and eldritch knowledge from her parents. Around the age of twelve years old, she was gifted her own grimoire. This grimoire was passed down to each female member of the Williams family. Although she had a good relationship with her parents, she soon figured out what was really going on. Running away from her parents when she was sixteen years old. Drifting from place to place working odd jobs.

Living in a run down apartment with her roommate an old drug dealer named Deloras Hazlewood.Keeping the grimoire with her as she felt a strange sense of safety and comfort from it being near her. When she was eighteen years old she started reading from the grimoire and practicing the spells inside of the book. Her nightmares and hallucinations starting to worsen. Having visions of a shadowy looking man in a strange and alien looking place.

She seems drawn to this man and wants to know more about him. Leading her to research and find out the identity of this man. While also being chased by eldritch beings both in her dreams and in real life.

Story Arcs:

Sympathy For The Devil: Ashely finally gets to meet the shadow man, but is surprised to learn of her true origins.

History

Anthony Stark was adopted at birth by industrialist Howard Stark and his wife, Maria Stark. With his considerable resources, it would be easy for Tony Stark to find and reconnect with his birth parents - if they’re even alive - but he has no interest in that. Even when he was very young, Tony was only interested in one thing: moving forward. He was very young when his parents died in a tragic car accident due to faulty brakes, and he took over their munitions company: Stark Industries.

Under Tony’s watchful eye, the company grew from a munitions firm into a multinational corporation with a range of interests covering all types of contemporary scientific industry, and with Tony at the helm of Stark Industries’s R&D division the company became the leading figure in the cutting edge of electronics. He purchased the car company that built the car his parents were driving, and fixed the errors in the brake system himself.

While showing off new military tech in an active warzone, Tony Stark’s escort back home was attacked. In the attack, shrapnel was lodged in his chest and he was kidnapped. When his captors tried to force him to build Stark Industries weapons, Tony Stark reacted in the only way he knew how: defiantly. With the help of another captor as his assistant, Stark fashioned a rudimentary version of one his projects back home: the Arc Reactor. He used it to power a massive suit of armor he piloted to escape captivity.

Tony Stark became a man obsessed with fixing the damage he’d done. Having seen what Stark Industries weapons had done to destabilize peace around the world, Tony Stark became the world’s first superhero: he began dismantling military sects utilizing his weapons, and continually iterated on his suit to improve its usability.

Tony threw himself at his work, constantly upgrading and looking forward toward the next mission. It was all that mattered, and his personal relationships suffered. His relationship with his assistant, Pepper Potts, never recovered.

It wasn’t until after an incident where Tony duked it out with an enemy in the streets of New York that he went public as Iron Man.

From there, the story of Iron Man is so well known even a five year old could tell it. Everyone knows the entire story: Following the incident in New York, Tony Stark led the Avengers alongside Steve Rogers for years to come. It wasn’t until recently that Tony Stark invented time travel, defeated the Mad Titan Thanos, and brought everyone back from the Blip.

Following that, Earth became an Avengers world: the first of many. To this day, Tony Stark is still recovering from the damage he sustained using the Infinity Stones, but the legend of a single snap of his fingers has reached the farthest reaches of the universe. Tony Stark leads Earth’s mightiest heroes from the comfort of Avenger’s mountain, mainly piloting his suits as drones when he needs to be involved, and trying to discover a way to heal his body to a point where he can be physically involved once again.

He’s always looking forward to the next threat, the next mission, the next thing he needs to do to protect his universe.

Powers

Billionaire, philanthropist, playboy… Tony Stark is many things, but a ‘super-powered’ hero is not one of them. Compared to some of his peers, Anthony Stark is little more than a man in a tin-suit. His greatest strength is his intellect, ranging from his ability to build things such as the aforementioned tin-suit, to being able to accurately predict what will happen in events such as the superhero civil war. Tony ranks among the most brilliant minds in the multiverse, and is widely regarded as the greatest engineer, and Reed Richards considers him to be the greatest multitasker of all time.

Using his mind, Tony built the Iron Man suit, where he gains his more heroic powers. While in the suit, Tony is capable of the following:

• Flight
• Super Strength
• Super Speed
• Repulsor Rays
• Unibeam
• Energy Blade
• Lasers
• Missiles
• Telepath Tasers (designed to prevent telepaths from using their powers)
• Telepathy inhibition (Tony’s armor can block telepathic signals)

Tony Stark was able to create all of this and more on his own. The armor has gone through many, many renditions, and likely will go through many more. A person like Tony Stark never stops innovating.

Story Arcs

Superheroes Anonymous: Tony Stark leads a group similar to Alcoholics Anonymous for superheroes who have had substance abuse issues related to the stress of their work.

Finding Love: Tony Stark has only ever loved one thing in this world, himself. Nursing his wounds, he will hopefully have time to build a relationship.

Healing: Tony needs to heal from the battle at the Avengers compound against Thanos in more ways than one. He deals with PTSD from the incident to this day.

History

Sometime ago, an organization known simply as ‘The Facility’ was tasked with creating a clone from DNA stolen from the mutant Wolverine. There were twenty two failed attempts, before the geneticist Sarah Kinney was finally able to find some success with a female subject: X-23. Kept in captivity the child was raised not as a human being, but as a weapon. From ages seven to eleven, X-23 completed many missions for the Facility’s financial gain. Despite Sarah Kinney’s best efforts to keep her somewhat humane, the years of abuse caused X-23 to become emotionally stunted, something she still struggles with today.

The Facility developed something called ‘The Trigger Scent’ that sends X-23 into a violent, bloodthirsty rage. They tested it by forcing X-23 to kill her best friend and sensei.

Sarah Kinney let X-23 out once, not to let her enjoy freedom, but on a personal vendetta where she rescued her abducted cousin, Megan. Later, X-23 was used as a pawn in a battle of corporate greed between Sarah Kinney and Zander Rice, the chief scientists of the Facility. X-23 killed Rice, but in the end, the trigger scent was used to force X-23 to kill Sarah.

As the scent wore off, and X-23 held onto her dying mother, Sarah finally gave her a name: Laura.

Laura tracked down her cousin and her mother’s sister, moving in with them. Laura and her cousin bonded over their time together, and Laura confided in her about being an assassin and being forced to kill her own mother. Her aunt’s boyfriend was revealed to be a Facility agent sent to force her to kill her cousin and aunt using the trigger scent, but Laura was able to outsmart him and kill him instead. Her old handler and some remaining Facility Agents attacked them at their home.

Laura was able to fight them off on her own and then instructed her aunt and cousin to assume new identities, identities originally meant to be used by Laura and Sarah to escape the Facility. After this, Laura made a decision: She would find the man who made her creation possible, and kill him and then herself, bringing an end to their violent legacy.

Laura was able to track Wolverine down to Xavier’s mansion. When Logan left the grounds, Laura confronted him. Coming face to face with her biological father for the first time was a strangely emotional moment for Laura, but she engaged him in battle. She defeated him with her superior tactics and maneuverability, then explained her plans. Logan put it simply:

“Ya can kill me, but I ain’t lettin’ ya kill yerself.”

Laura was thrown off by this, having someone seemingly genuinely care for her was… strange. Her delayed reaction was enough for Captain America to burst onto the scene to arrest her as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Somewhat confused and somewhat relieved at the opportunity to atone for her crimes, Laura surrendered happily to the Captain.

While in S.H.I.E.L.D.’s captivity, Laura was questioned by Matt Murdock, who found her to be innocent, despite the mayhem she caused in the past. Captain America later freed her to keep her from being exploited by S.H.I.E.L.D. as a weapon.

From here, Laura returned to New York to spend time with her father. She had many adventures here, including a fight with the Hulk. Wolverine was ordered to assemble an X-Force, and X-23 joined the team happily. Here, she was able to use her talents from her time in the Facility for what she believed were the forces of good. Later, when X-Force disbanded, Laura spent some time with her father and Jubilee.

After traveling with them, she decided to embark on her own adventures, to see if she could be more than just a killer. A hero, that’s all Laura has wanted to be.

Much later, Laura found her way back to the X-Men. Now living in Krakoa, Laura has been asked by her father if she’s interested in taking on the name ‘Wolverine.’

“There are two o’ those damn Hawkeyes, and it’s ‘bout damn time ya get rid of that Weapon X name.”

Laura hasn’t agreed to anything like that yet. She’s very much still finding her way.

Powers

X-23 possesses the same powerset as her father, Logan. These include the following:

Healing Factor: Laura’s primary mutant power is an accelerated healing factor. She can regenerate damaged or destroyed tissue with enhanced speed and efficiency when compared to a normal human. She notably heals faster than her father, and has shown the capacity to regrow an entire arm if need be. This power presumably gives her increased longevity of life like her father. It also makes her effectively immune to poisons and drugs unless administered an immense dose, and Earthly diseases and infections do not have any effect on her.

Superhumanly Acute Senses: Laura’s five main senses are intensely, and sometimes overwhelmingly acute. She can see nanites with her naked eye, and maintains this level of sight even in total darkness. She can not only hear sounds ordinary humans can’t, but can also hear them at much greater distances. Her sense of smell is second to none, and X-23 is an incredible tracker combining her senses together.

Also, she doesn’t like spice. Too much, too fast.

Superhuman Agility: Laura’s balance, coordination, and overall agility are far above that of a normal human, even the finest athlete. With even a moderate amount of focus, Laura will never fall. Her reflexes follow this trend; she has shown the capacity to slice a bullet fired at her face from point-blank range in half with her claws.

Superhuman Durability: Laura has traded blows with the Hulk without sustaining heavy damage, and has even survived multiple energy blasts from Nimrod — although she needed to spend time healing afterward.

Superhuman Strength & Stamina: Laura’s strength and stamina are enhanced as well. Fatigue doesn’t hit her even after 24 hours of peak exertion.

The Claws: Just like her father, Laura has two retractable bone claws in each hand, and one in each foot. They are coated in adamantium, making them sharp and capable of cutting through almost any material.

Story Arcs

Find Your One Way — Laura needs to find peace with her past, present, and future. With time, she will hopefully find her inner peace and become the All-New Wolverine. Basically, this energy.

The Sisters - I’m interested in potentially running a similar arc to the Sisters from the All-New Wolverine comic run, especially Gabby who to the surprise of no one is my favorite.
