Bio

Hello! Welcome to my little bio.

Not much to say, really. Just a horror game protag that likes writing and playing vidya games when I'm not being chased by the cosmic forces of darkness. (I'm a security guard that works night shifts usually).

Have some dancing medjed.

Franziska listened, unblinking as he introduced himself. Aku? Body not his own? Franziska smiled faintly. How humorous. Either that was a lie or she indeed, succeeded...but the chance of that? Quite slim. He went on to suggest a game. A bet. A deal? How stereotypical of an extraplanar being. Almost too typical even really. Suspicious. So suspicious. There were times when charisma was good, but there was also times where being too familiar and too knowledgeable or charismatic was just as bad as being not enough. Still - he talked a good game. In fact she wanted to believe him.

Too bad none of it mattered.

She was playing an entirely different game already.

A game she could never lose.

"Heh," A small chuckle first. "Ahahahaha! Amusing!" She then held a hand to her chest, a bright, amused laugh filling the basement. She knelt next to him once again, grinning brightly. "Unfortunately for you, the only games I play are ones I win. A question from something beyond the realms? Fool, you could ask me anything! Something from some other realm that I couldn't possibly have knowledge of, so tell me why I would play such a game obviously stacked against me?"

Something odd would then happen.

In a blink, she was gone. A hand was placed on his head from behind, a the edge of a knife was digging into the flesh of his neck. In the span of what seemed like only a second she had moved behind him without seeming to move.

"You even suggest you could 'have your way with me'. That's a threat, you know? So crass and lacking of class, aren't you? Hah, that's a rhyme." She smiled, her head hovering just above his shoulder. "You like games, then? I do too. Games sharpen the mind. Make the physical better. Any good Scarab knows games are excellent mental exercises." The knife withdrew from his neck, Franziska once again, somehow seeming to blink from existence and back again in front of him within a mere second.

"Ah, but where are my manners, traveler. Franziska Gwerder. Seeker of knowledge and illuminator of secrets lost." She bowed, a deep, formal bow with a flourish. "Now then...Aku was it? Instead of lamenting lost progress, let us applaud new discoveries. Let me propose my own deal. Without all this needless underhandedness or power struggles. I seek an apprentice. Random chance that you appeared here? Or the Illuminated granting me a boon? Only time will tell, heh." She chuckled, holding a hand out for him to shake. "I shall teach you the ways of enlightenment...and in return you shall help me with whatever it is I desire. Is that acceptable? Most would be quite thrilled to receive such an offer."

It was difficult to tell if her words were lies, but she seemed mostly genuine in her intent.

The rest of the evening seemed to pass quietly. After the events of today, she was grateful to be able to be alone with her thoughts. The incense was helpful, relaxing as it should have been, but her thoughts wouldn't stay still despite it. They kept drifting back to Varjan. The lot knight and his rather scary dream. The drugs and even briefly thought of home. Aaaah, she really didn't want to go back, but she was certain after this victory she would need too.

A small creak of her door signaled she was no longer alone.

Cracking open an eye, Seleth turned her attention to the beastkin that had entered her room. An elegant looking woman, with enough feathers to make quite a comfortable pillow. She listened quietly, not moving a muscle while she stated her purpose here. So she was to visit the Citadel and tell them what happened. She wasn't sure how much help she would have been, but she supposed now wasn't the time to question it -

"My parents?" Seleth gave the woman a wide-eyed stare reminding one of a deer that had just been spooked. "Here? To visit? Aylama's holy-ahem," She caught herself mid sentence before she said anything that may incur the wrath of the goddess. She could hazard a guess as to what they were here for. Damn it. At least if they had requested her presence back at their home she could prepare better, or constantly find some excuse not to go, but if they were coming here.

Urgh.

"Thank you, Miss." Seleth replied again with a sigh. "If you must, tell them to meet me at the Radiant Cathedral. That is my usual place of residence." Throwing her legs over the bed, Seleth ended her meditation and stood. "Well, lets get going then. I'll tell you what I can, however little it is."

"Waheh...seems like you've all had it rough." Vi replied with a chuckle as things were explained to them. This was all quite spooky, yes. A freak storm. Ghosts roaming around the area. It was a straight up b-grade horror flick and she coldn't help but to find it amusing. You even had the most fun thing in horror films! Not the monsters, but other humans you had to watch out for, hehe! Why if she wasn't caught in the middle of it she'd almost want a bag of popcorn to watch from a distance.

Curious, though. It was curious. The historian and investigator in her was having its attention rightly pulled. Hmhm. The source of this phenomena...hm, maybe some of the others may have some ideas? They were much more well versed in pokemon than she was. A thought for another time. Honey distributed food between all of them, along with a request for rest.

For the most part, Vi felt fine. She may try to get more food later, but - hm, well, actually...now that she had actual food in front of her, it would be a good idea to see if she could eat it as well. She had a sneaking suspicion she couldn't, but feeding off spooking others constantly was going to get annoying if there was no one around to spook.

So Vi attempted to eat some of the soup.

"Hmm, I'm perfectly rested." Vi continued. "So if someone wants, I could accompany them. My psychic abilities should be fairly useful against most things."
Livia Fiore and Odhra Bebbin
Library, First Session

"Erectile dysfunction, huh..." Livia smirked lightly. "No, no, I don't quite have that problem, heh." Sio gripped her shoulder lightly, poking her head curiously over the summoners shoulder as she observed the bookshelves alongside her. "So what do you know of undead? Many eastern folklore and legends about undead are quite fascinating. Their demons are particularly vicious and I think two sort of spider spirits." Livia made an off-hand mention with a smirk before quickly continuing. "I'm thinking about trying to find a specific sort of demon from there. I’m just...rather undecided on what I should be trying for.."

"Meui, tretil?" A gentle ruffle of her hair got her attention.

"...What?"

"Tretil, tretil!" The ghost released Livia from her grip, pointing towards Odhra. Livia frowned for a moment, trying to understand her summons. A language barrier was a difficult thing indeed, but thankfully she had been studying these rare phrases and words of her for a while.

"...I think Siobahn says she has something she wants to give you." Livia sighed as Siobahn nodded eagerly. "Alright, alright. I'll call you back before second session." With a ghostly giggle and a mischievous wave towards Odhra, Siobhan vanished from sight, presumably being unsummoned and sent back to her forest for now. A few minutes after she left, Livia pulled a book off the shelf and walked back over to Odhra.

"Take my advice, Odhra. Anything she gives you, will almost certainly kill you in some fashion." She opened a thick tome and flipped through some of the pages, glossing over her previous statement as she returned to the earlier topic. "A type of undead, a demon, or other fairy like creature similar to Siobahn."

”I’ll bear that in mind, but I’m sure it is nothing too dangerous. Sio hardly seems the vindictive type!” Odhra chirpped, fairly certain Livia was just over reacting. ”As for what I know of undead, very little.” He says stroking his chin. ”My studies mostly focused on preventing things from getting to that stage. And despite what literature might say, very few realms have naturally occuring undeath as a result of infection or biological trigger and what few that do...yeah. Don’t summon those.” He says, suddenly frowning deeply. ” Like, ever. Pretty much all of those are categorically useless. Unless you really like watching decomposition in action.”

”As for spiders and undeath...little more complicated. Depending on the culture, spiders might be more strongly associated with communal connections than anything else. Eastern empires tended to focus on spiritual spiders as predatory aspects. The Tsuchigumo being little more than artistic exaggerations of native burrowing spiders and the Jorogumo which, while technically a spirit, was more a tool for teaching a warrior caste to ignore the request of beautiful young women in the name of fulfilling their obligation to their lords. So in that culture, don’t see a lot of connection there.”

Odhra pauses for another moment, now visibly racking his brain for anything helpful. He reaches into his bag and pulls out a small silver notebook, flipping the front open and wordlessly thumbing to a page. ”For more general undead though? Best recommendation I can give is a Jianshi. Easy to control, relatively diverse since they were once humans, and….well, they hop. Like...everywhere. Its basically the fourth cutest thing I’ve ever seen a corpse do.” He chirps, handing the book over to Livia, the notes….spare on specific details but a general overview being there.

”More seriously, it's also probably a good idea for you as well, what with exam coming up.” He says, his tone a little more serious. ”Jianshi are not likely to be common enough to this region that the masters or the students have ready access to the resources needed to trivialize them. And little leg ups like that generally what get people into the higher tiers initially.” He adds, remembering the first time he publically summoned Bubbles during his last exam. Got a lot of angry glares for that one..

"Jiangshi, hm..." Livia mused, taking the book that had been slid across to her. She had considered them before, being particularly well versed in such topics. Odhra's input was certainly welcome, if not particularly overall helpful. She hadn't been very interested in them for the simple reason they seemed...not exactly well suited for what she wanted. They likely weren't very subtle creatures, what with being unable to move very well.

“They were on my list of things to look into. As were Enera, or perhaps a Baku.” There was a list she had narrowed down to just having a few left, and Jiangshi was at the bottom of it...but perhaps she could make a small adjustment. Handing Odhra his notes back, Livia placed a few of her own notes onto the table. “As cute as hopping is, I'm a little concerned about their mobility...but perhaps that should be a small thing to consider.”

She could use something a bit more...direct, in its nature. As good as all her cloak and dagger schemes were, having something that she could use to deal with things more directly was always a good backup plan.

“What about you, Odhra? Planning on trying to summon anything else soon?”

A look of abject misery washes over Odhra’s features as he leans over the table, a soft groan escaping him. ”Sir Lestrelle...is heavily encouraging me to move out of my comfort zone with the arachnid family.” he said with the exhaustion of someone who had experienced the conversation far more than they likely wanted. ”Say’s I’m over-reliant on them and it keeps me from looking at alternatives. I don’t think he’d fail me if I don’t but...kind of don’t want to risk it.”

He huffs and sits up again. ”I think he let me get away with it for now because Baily is somewhat advanced for my level, but...ugh. Its not my fault. My babies listen to me so well because nobody else WANTS to summon them. So it’s been really easy to build up a strong harmony with them. I’ve no idea how I’d even approach a cat summon or whatever...So I’m kind of just waffling on the decision on what to try next.” he half whines, knowing he was being more than a little stubborn in Livia’s eyes. ”Probably another combat focused one or...whatever.” he sighs, sounding very uninterested in the idea. Bubbles will always be cooler than some dumb cat anyway.

“Hmm, I see.” Livia glanced over to the bookshelves, thinking. Something that was out of his comfort zone but she would have decent knowledge of and was something more Bestia related. She supposed this is where her studies into all sorts of mythologies and legends would come in handy. “I think I may have something for you...” Livia flipped through a few pages in her book, finding a page that was heavily outlined with notes and even a rather well done sketch of a rendition of a particularly large werewolf like deer creature.

“A wendigo may be a good place to start.” Livia handed him the notebook. “Often considered spirits and result of human greed and excess, they are at times, considered a sort of beast as well. Closely related to the lesser known Wechuge, they're fairly formidable creatures.” Livia leaned back in her chair. “They were also used as protectors, by sacrificing a person to let the spirit have their body to protect them from their enemies.” She paused, frowning slightly. “...That said, I am unsure if it would entirely fall under Bestia. Depends on who you talk too.”

Could she have tried a bit harder to help with something more bestia? Most certainly. Did she have any desire too? Not really.

Odhra considers the notebook for a moment, eyes lazily roaming over the details. ”I...guess. Looks kind of cute to..” He mumbles, scribbling down the notes on a spare sheet of paper with surprising speed. ”If nothing else, it could atleast be less exhausting than Bubbles to keep out. Plus, other folks might find it more relaxing to be around that than one of my babies…” he sighs, finishing his copy of Livias work and carefully tucking it into his own notebook.

”Thanks Livi. I’ll take a look into them after classes tonight....speaking of which…” he says, leaning forward. ”When you gonna try and summon your new baby?” He asks, a lilt of excitement in his voice. ”I kind of wanna be there if I can. ‘S Always cool to see what someone fishes up from the realms. Plus,...probably a good idea to have a medic on site just in case.” He adds, less a threat and more a recognition of reality. Accidents happened, and Odhra would be lying if he said he wouldn’t love to be the one with first crack at the victim if it happened.

“Aha, don't look so down.” Livia replied with a chuckle. “I know how you feel. I don't particularly desire to...step outside my comfort zone either, as it were.” She gave a small shake of her head. “But if one desires to get stronger, then they must.” She had no idea what she would do once she mastered Phantasma – she really didn't fancy ever using any of the other houses. Dracona was too overt. Bestia was far too rowdy and Machina was...hm. Come to think of it, Machina was fairly interesting in its own way.

Maybe.

“Hm, I was planning on doing it tonight.” Livia continued. “I feel as though I am ready for it, and I see no reason to wait around.” Having someone else present presented unknown variables that could happen. Bad ones. Odhra presence however, would be quite welcome honestly. The boy was naive, but incredibly smart. “So by all means, its a date then.”

Odhra beamed, a smile that (to a casual observer) ranged somewhere between honest naked joy and sadistic mirth spreading across his face like a jagged scar. ”Lovely!” he chirpped, rather loudly, unable to keep his excitement out of his voice. ”I’ll bring some food over for afterwards. Never know how a first time is going to affect your blood suger. Chicken and rice with fruit salad ok?” He asked, mind somewhat scattered between organizing a list of tools and medications he’d need to pack and wondering if he should cook or just pick something up from the cafeteria.

“That sounds lovely.” Livia replied. “And make sure there's enough for Eva as well, hm? She'll get jealous if she finds out we're doing something without her.” Now then, it was about time for them to get going, and Sio should probably be well done with whatever it was she was doing. She had to suppress a groan just from the thought of it she she focused her mind, summoning her ghostly friend.

Siobahn appeared in her usual fashion, floating up from Livia's shadow with a friendly giggle, giving a brief hug to her summoner before fixing Odhra with a rather...unsettling grin as she released Livia and floated over to the boy.

She pulled out a white flower that seemed to release some sort of strange aroma and handed it out to Odhra. The flower was beautiful – almost immaculate. The petals were thick, large, and seemed to glow softly. The stem was thicker than most plants, about the size of Odhra's thumb. It seemed hollow?

“Tretil.”

Livia saw the flower, blinked twice, before sighing lightly and using her hands to form an 'x' as she locked eyes with Odhra.

”Aww, thank you Sio” Odhra coos, sparing a moment to give Livia a quizzical look, thinking maybe he should talk to her later about trusting her summons more. Taking it gently he smiled at the banshee warmly. ”I’ll be sure to treasure it for the rest of my life.” He says honestly, reaching into his bag.

“...you most certainly will.” Livia replied with a small smile. Well, whatever. If he wanted to experience that, then he most certainly was welcome too. Sio simply clapped her bony hands together with a ghostly chuckle before floating over back to Livia. With a friendly wave bye, Siobahn fled back into Livia's shadow leaving the two of them alone again. “I suppose that's that then. Second session should be starting soon and I should go make sure Eva's not still pouting. Meet you during last session?”

”Sounds good to me. I need to get this pressed before it starts to wilt, so if you want to head out thats ok.” he says as he takes out some disposable gloves, a breathing mask, a small metal plate and disinfectant.”Generally takes a few minutes and is honestly pretty boring to watch. But it should keep the flower visibly prestine for several decades.”

He pauses for a moment, considering something. ”....also keeps whatever biological contaminants it might be carrying from another realm neutralized and sealed in a vacuum. Though I guess I wouldn’t have know that before hand...plus poor Sio’s feelings might have been hurt if I had set up a clean room just to accept a gift.”
Annnd that's a post to get the ball rolling for the witch and the displaced human.

thud

Johnathan hit the ground, hard.

Not quite unconscious, but not quite conscious either. Dazed, as he fumbled with his thoughts and tried to make sense of the situation he found himself in. He could feel the cold, slightly damp ground pressing into him as he lay on his stomach. A stone floor? Felt like it. Not quite natural stone, from the feeling. It was to smooth. A prison floor? Dungeon? Perhaps. Maybe once his senses returned he could make sense of it, but perhaps he wouldn't even have time.

“...What.”

The single word pierced through any grogginess he might have had. Something grabbed either side of his face, squeezing it lightly.

“You're not it.” The voice replied, slightly irritated. By now his vision would be focusing – and what he saw was likely one of the more beautiful women he had seen in his life. She was crouching in front of him. “Not enough tentacles.” The thing that was grabbing either side of his face, was her hands. Delicate, slim fingers holding a surprising amount of strength until she let him go, causing his chin to smack the floor again.

“You're a human. How annoying!” In a rather overly dramatic fashion, she stood up, holding a hand to her forehead. “I spent all this time, avoiding the church, gathering ingredients...and all I get is some random human. Some random pig of a human. Pathetic.” She grumbled lightly, hand reaching into her robe and seemingly checking something. “Or am I wrong? Perhaps a disguise? Bound in flesh and blood? Speak up before I find your presence needless and I get myself a new plaything. I was going to try a human chimaera of sorts next. Perhaps you'd like to volunteer?”

By now his vision would have properly returned, as well as likely most of his faculties. The room he was in seemed to be a basement of some sort. A quick look around and he'd note several macabre items sitting on the tables. A few glass vials, flasks, other instruments. A well used hacksaw was hanging above one along with some more esoteric seeming items. He could see a set of stairs leading up to presumably the ground floor of the building not far behind the woman.

Her golden eyes fixed themselves on the displaced human once again. She seemed a bit calmer, but perhaps he should choose his words carefully.

Chloe chuckled at Penny's response. Ah, she was hoping for a little more intense reaction, but that was just fine as well. She had other important things to do. Like make sure her newest little maiden wasn't doing something she wasn't...like getting friendly with beacon. The Dark magical girl glanced over to Divina who had managed to convince a Beacon girl to help heal her pet. Hm...perhaps beacon had changed, just a bit? How fortuitous. It'd certainly make things easier on her end.

"...or maybe not." Chloe sighed at Penny's words. Of course not. Of course. Just like beacon. Offer a hand while arming the other. She couldn't blame them of course, no. She was the same. In many ways she and beacon were quite similar. Chloe let out a mildly annoyed breath, reaching up and patting Penny on the head.

""It's nice to be worried about, heh." Chloe replied, obviously amused. ""Don't worry, my pretty little Penny, Beacon won't nab me. You just get some rest and let me handle myself." A few honeyed words could go a long way, couldn't they? Not that they were entirely a lie. She needed Penny not to end up dying for her. "Divina!"

"Mhm?" The moth girl replied with a few chirp noises.

"We're leaving. Take Lucy and get out of here. Someone will find you in the city." Chloe continued, eyeing Janet coolly. "...Beacon wants to hurt me, it seems."

"...how cruel." She replied, facing Janet, wings fluttering lightly in mild seeming irritation. "You say you will help us but then do the opposite?"

"Now now, don't go blaming them for being themselves." Chloe replied with a smirk. "I would potentially do the same, in their position...now then please leave before things get messy hm? You're still weak. Can't have you getting hurt." With a nod, Divina quickly fluttered up to the massive beast known as 'Lucy' as Chloe positioned herself between Janet and the two of them. "...With respect for our mutual friend, I'll stay my hand from your deceitful hand today, beacon. But let it be known I have no quarrel with beacon, and I assure you, I had no idea Divina was Beacon." Chloe's crystalline wings formed behind her. That wasn't a lie, as far as anyone could tell.

"Perhaps if you wish to talk instead of fight, you could find us later." With that said, Chloe zoomed off, away from the graveyard.

Why were the cats scared of her? Rina hadn't a clue.

...ah. Wait. The cat she killed...

Rina exhaled. Good grief. Well, there was nothing to be done about it. What was done was done, and she couldn't let it affect her. Rina listened quietly to Amaryllis' words, letting her talk as she needed. Sometimes that's all someone needed was someone to listen. At the mention of Penny, Rina smiled lightly. Yes, that was a good idea. Take her mind off of something. Sometimes Rina forgot that despite being a little girl now, she used to be a police officer. And that sort of job, made one get learn to cope with stuff like this fast.

Sometimes she forgot she was probably a bit older than most girls here.

"Ahem-ah," Quickly turning in the direction of Penny, Rina jumped, waving the other girl over. "Hey Penny! Over Here-bweh?!" It was then she was ambushed by a cat, for the second time that day. Except this time she was given a rock with a...phone number on it, but before she could question it Mika ran off, Rina watching in mild disbelief before staring at the rock with a mildly troubled expression.

What was she supposed to do with this number? She had been getting a lot of those recently. In fact, this was probably more personal friend numbers than she had than she had when she was a normal human.

~Temporary Campsite~

It took some time, but eventually she had managed to carve out the entire frog, separating its most useful components from the flesh of the rest of it, eating her fill in the process. There was a surprising amount of meat on the frog - more than she had assumed there would be. A good thing that she could share with the others. Mana Vision and Mana Sense were equally useful. With this, hopefully she could more easily do her experiments with less guesswork. According to Mana Vision, she may want to find a way to enhance her sense of sight as well.

Being more visually perceptive was always a good idea.

Turning her attention to the mats, Ash quickly made mental notes of what they could do. Pixie wings didn't seem overly useful, aside from their magcial properties. Though, they seemed to be able to make a liquid coagulate. Perhaps could be used to make a thickening agent of some sort. The Dire Rat fur was far more useful seeming, simply for the sole reason it seemed to be have a chance to make mixtures more toxic. The leg seemed the least useful out of the bunch, but waste was not something she was keen on doing.

The individual parts of the frog seemed far more valuable, there was just one problem. She had no way to preserve any of these organic compounds, so they would need to be used soon or they would become unusable.

The skin was as she assumed, and the stomach was an unexpected boon. It seemed like she could make a fairly decent backpack or some such out of it. Digbie could likely use it well enough for now. It was poor quality, but she could make a decent one that would suit their needs for now. Perhaps the tongue could be used to make a draw string so she could close it.

The eyes were less mechanically useful, but apparently high in nutritional content. Now that would certainly be useful if one could stand to eat one. Perhaps she could blend it into some sort of protein drink. The heart seemed to have a number of uses. A filter was certainly something she could use it for, as gruesome as it'd be.

But for now, Ash had another dilemma.

How to carry all of this back? Her throat pouch, by estimate, could hold up to five items safely. Her backpack had a similar amount as well. There was about eleven items here, so she would need to leave some behind. She could just leave the least useful things, but even then she would need to leave most of the meat behind.

Briefly, Ash checked the ground with Tremor sense to see if she could find any of the others. If they were near, then this would be easy.
~~Seleth~~

@PaulHaynek@CitrusArms

Seleth didn't like this, not one bit.

But the Dark Elf could only sigh and listen to the others. Maybe she should have said something, but when could she have? Before the tournament? Look like a scared girl trying to undermine her opponent? Hardly. Afterwards, when he was recovering? That would just needlessly cause strain on an already tenuous situation and put Varjan in an even more precarious position...but maybe she was wrong. Maybe she should have said something. Maybe if she did things wouldn't end up like this.

Seleth ground her teeth together.

No matter, she supposed.

Nothing to be done. All she could do was seek guidance from the goddess, and rest.

"...meh." Seleth sighed, getting up. "I'm returning to my room. I'll be meditating if anyone needs me."
