Shadow Daedalus — Roleplayer Guild

@Slime I used Bird of Hermes's Van Helsing as a basis, but I didn't change much. That's why his class is Archer, and I left it at that because we had no Archers. I recognised that he could be a viable Assassin, that's why I mentioned it as an alt class.

His NP was my own idea, mainly because having only one weapon didn't make much sense for a man who is constantly hunting different monsters, but I've never had a good grasp of how to scale NPs. I figured A was a good max, considering Archers are known for powerful NPs, and it would have to be his iconic crossbow, firing specialised bolts for each type of enemy. Everything else would be weaker, so he only has one A ranked weapon.

As for James's skills, it takes between 6 months and a year of regular training for military snipers on top of basic, so he's no where near as skilled as Kiritsugu, but he's been running around warzones etc for 4 years so he's had to learn fast or die.

Any help balancing would be appreciated, I just can't get my head around it

Sorry about being inactive for so long, I've got the Master for Daedalus here for you to approve/improve. I've also got an idea for an Archer-class Hero that I wanted to try out. @Dawnscroll

James Thorne

Gender: Male

Age: 19

Personality: Presenting himself as rather cold and unattached, James has a personality expected of a seasoned assassin rather than that of a young man not even out of his teens. He is able to change his demeanour quickly, adapting to what he perceives to be the best course of action if he needs to, but his usual personality is gentlemanly but cold. He upholds good manners, but rarely smiles and doesn't care for the emotional state of those he is talking to. When angered, he behaves in much the same way as he usually does, but is notably more violent. He is also harsh against those that he views as wasting time or incompetent.

Despite this, he can come across has slightly more easy going and caring around people he trusts, including his Servant and his family. He likes to banter with Archer while not fighting, and will occasionally make witticisms about events or circumstances. He doesn't show regret or remorse for what he has done, or how he lives, but occasionally admits regret about leaving his family behind when they needed him. 

Appearance: James stands at 6'00", with a slim body type that had undergone a few years of intensive training.

Biography and Family History: Born to unknown parents, only to be orphaned in a mysterious car accident and placed into care for most of his early life. John and Victoria adopted him as their son aged 10. The couple already had a 6 year old daughter, Rena, and he was originally dismissive and cold towards her, paranoid that his parents would love her more, as their biological child. He eventually warmed up to her after she stubbornly kept trying to get closer to him. 

His parents were training them as magus, as they were both Magus aligned with the elements Air and Fire, but his own training fell though and they stopped trying after he decided to give up. He continued to support Rena, even as they went though school. As he got older, he became increasingly anti-social and violent, eventually earning a reputation in school as a delinquent.

He disappeared aged 15 after a seemingly unprovoked attack on the family that claimed the life of his father, after which he attempted to lead the attackers away. His mother and sister never saw him again. He had learned of a rival Magus that sought to damage the Thorne family, but more specifically James himself, and had spent the following 4 years getting increasingly involved with criminal gangs and rogue Magus with the intention of finding and killing that Rival. He ended up travelling/being smuggled across the world as he developed his skills, taking inspiration from the infamous Magus Killer. After hellish training with PMCs, local militias and whatever else shady paramilitary groups would take him, he became a formidable hunter, as skilled with a rifle as he was a knife while his personality became colder, more remorseless and more detached. He killed his target shortly after turning 18, and spent the year picking up assassination contracts from The Magus Association and the Church against heretical magus and other such threats.

When he was chosen by the grail, he thought it was bad for business and planned to avoid it until he heard about the wish that is supposedly granted. Tugging at the last remaining shreds of humanity, he thought back to his family, and decided to use that wish to ensure his adoptive family remained safe, away from him, all the while unaware of Rena's own role in the Grail War. He accidentally used a copy of Bram Stoker's Dracula while summoning in an abandoned bookshop after it fell into the summoning circle, and thus summoned the Heroic Spirit of Abraham Van Helsing.

Elemental Affinity: Void/Fire
Number of Magic Circuits and Quality of Magic Circuits: 30, Very high quality.

Magic Circuit Switch: Flicking his lighter whilst picturing teal flames. If he isn't picturing them, his circuits don't activate.

Magecraft: Functioning as an active counter to Magecraft, he has developed a unique skill which allows him to utilise his origin to 'shatter' any form of spiritual energy, including magecraft and spell casting. He cannot, however, use any other magecraft.

Spirit Fire: An offensive form of 'shatter', it appears as teal flames that can cause considerable damage to any source of Spiritual power, including Servants and Magic Circuits. Only effective on Servants with Magic Resistance C or below. Anything C+ or higher is immune to it's effect. Has no effect on physical objects.

Shatter Aegis: a defensive form, it appears as a full-sized body shield made of teal flames, and can destroy any projected magic up to and including Three-line incantations, but is useless against physical objects. Has a limited effectiveness against NPs below B rank due to their spiritual nature, but sustained attacks will eventually overwhelm him.

Mystic Codes: Specialised Mystic Code L115A3 Sniper Rifle, using a specialised .338 calibre ammunition inspired by the Magus Killer's Origin Rounds. These rounds are infused with his blood, and can inflict the concept of 'shatter' directly onto the magic circuits of a mage, or even onto the spiritual body of a Servant. The more Circuits and the higher the quality of the mage, the more damage is done. High-level mages can be crippled with a single bullet, and weaker Servants can also be severely wounded. Against those with no or poor quality circuits, they function as regular sniper rifle rounds.

Abraham Van Helsing
The Vampire Hunter

Background:
Abraham Van Helsing started life as a humble, but talented doctor. In his first adventure, he traveled the world and faced a powerful Dead Apostle who had stolen the name of Vlad III. He single handily faced down and defeated the monster but made his first and only mistake in his career. He did not kill it. As a result of this, his close friend Mina Harker was trapped as a Vampire for the rest of her unnatural life. Although he tried to find a cure he could not and Mina fled him and stayed as far away as possible, knowing they would eventually kill one another. Van Helsing swore he would not make the same mistake again. He was brutal and remorseless to his prey and showed no mercy - endlessly perpetuating the cycle of vengeance.

Essentially abandoning his previous life, he flung himself into a new line of work and began a dedicated monster hunter. Fuelled by grief and self loathing, he became the best of the best. Vampires. Werewolves. Demons. Ghouls and zombies and ghosts. These terrors hid in every corner of the world. Van Helsing became the torch that shone light upon the darkness before swiftly crushing the monsters head with his boot. 

He encountered Bram Stoker, who used his life as a model for his book. The true Van Helsing was much younger and had far more experience, though he much less possessed the same personality - patient, kind, mild-mannered, but with a razor wit and great eye for details. Though Bram Stoker originally wanted to keep the details about Mina true, believing it was a marvellous and realistic tragedy, Van Helsing begged Stoker to give her a happy ending. The fame he gained from the book catapulted him straight to the Throne of Heroes upon death.

Personality: As stated in his background, he comes across as a well-mannered gentleman with a sharp eye and matching wits. His temper is quite long, but he is a ruthless hunter towards any kind of monsters, even more so towards Vampires and Dead Apostles.

Class Skills:
Independent Action (B) - It is possible for a Servant to stay in the world for two days without a Master. However, this is the ideal value achieved by maximally conserving mana and avoiding battle and Noble Phantasm usage.

Magic Resistance (B) -Cancel spells with a chant below three verses. Even if targeted by High-Thaumaturgy and Greater Rituals, it is difficult for them to be affected. Despite his humble origins as a doctor, he became a talented and dedicated monster hunter and became drenched in so much demonic blood over the years, he gained a natural resistance.

Personal Skills:
Hunter's Mark (B) - A skill that measures one's ability to track and pursue. Heightened senses give Van Helsing an unnatural ability to find his prey. Unless the target covered their tracks through magical means, he's able to find them. Negates Disengage and Presence Concealment of the same rank.

Medical Techniques (C) - A skill that power up medical techniques. Van Helsing is a trained doctor, capable of healing most wounds. At 'C' rank in his abilities on the same level of incredibly skilled human physicians and surgeons.

Monster Slayer (B+) - Van Helsing inflicts more damage against anything with bestial or monstrous traits. He possesses a high rank as the most famous of his profession.

Single Mindedness (D) - The capacity to devote oneself towards a cause. Van Helsing spends most of his time thinking about how to track down and kill monsters and new and inventive manners. He is highly disinterested in any other subject. Provides resistance against mental influence of the same level.

Noble Phantasms:

Hunter's Tools - Monster Slayer's Arsenal: [Rank C+~A][Anti-Unit]
A catch-all term for Van Helsing's armoury of monster-slaying weapons and tools, his noble phantasm allows him to summon any of the weapons from his past as a separate noble phantasm, all ranked between C+ and A, much like Gilgamesh's Gate of Babylon, albeit on a weaker and smaller scale. This armoury contains multitude of traps, blades, firearms and other such tools, but more powerful tools are more costly to summon.

Rena Thorne

Gender: Female

Age: 15

Personality: A normal girl for her age, she is energetic and boisterous, and in a very kind girl. She always tries to see the bright side of every situation, and never hesitates to help those in need. She always has a smile on her face, and never lets a bad situation dampen her mood.

Behind that happy exterior, however, she is quite fragile. She worries a lot about her family, particularly her older brother James, and is also worries about how others see her. Because of her experiences growing up, she can feel ostracised from her peers, in both Magus and non-magus environments.

Appearance: As shown above, she stands at 5'7" with an average build. When not in her school uniform, her sense of style is very light and colourful, with plenty of frilly tops and other such 'girly' clothing.

Biography and Family History: Born in 2000 to Magus parents John and Victoria Thorne in Ipswich, England, Rena has always been far removed from major Magus communities. She trained her magic under her parent's tutelage, but she never excelled as far as a skilled magus. Her parents adopted an older boy, James, when she was 6 years old and although treated poorly by him, she stubbornly kept trying to get closer to him until he eventually warmed up to her. He began to train with her, but it fell though and he gave up. While they stayed close, James gradually grew more into an anti-social delinquent and she became increasingly worried for him.

When she turned 11 years old, her family was attacked by a rival mage that wanted to be superior to her parents. Her father was killed and James disappeared, leaving her and her mother alone. Seeking to escape from that rival, they moved to Fuyuki, Japan. It was there that Rena learned of the Grail Wars, and made the decision to try to win so that she could use her wish to bring her brother home and out of trouble. She then spent the next 4 years preparing. 

She was chosen as a Master, and was quick to summon her servant using one of the feathers from Daedalus's wax wings as a Catalyst.

Number of Magic Circuits and Quality of Magic Circuits: 15 Circuits of above-average quality.
Magic Circuit Switch: The sound of a match being struck, either mental or physical. If she can't focus mentally, she strikes a real match instead.

Magecraft: Air Manipulation: Can alter the air pressure around a target to create air-bursts, move an object or create shockwaves.
Fire Manipulation: Can create and freely control small quantities of flame.

These two skills are often used in tandem to create more powerful flame attacks by manipulation of oxygen-rich air, like fire bursts or flaming shockwaves. These skills are hard to control however, so she avoids using them if civilians are at risk of collateral injury.

Equipment: Matchbox, carried for emergencies.
