GUIDELINES AND RULES

Expectations and an outline on gameplay and functions.

• Adhere to the guild rules of course.

• This RP will be 18+ but in cohesion with guild rules avoid sexually explicit themes and other fringe material that other players may be uncomfortable with. Romantic relationships between player characters or player characters and NPCs are allowed but in the possible instance of any sexual scenes/content players must fade to black.

• Please do not detach yourself from the storyline. As already clarified this RP is open world, meaning players are allowed to pursue personal goals and explore the Abecean Sea of their own volition. That said everyone is expected to have a presence in the main plot as it unfolds over time so keep your character in “the loop”.

• Players are allowed only one character at a time. If a character dies or is otherwise indisposed of players are allowed to create a new one.

• No hybrid class characters.

• Weapons and armor will for the most part be aesthetic.

• This will be a lite tabletop campaign. What I mean by this is that while we will be using tabletop devices - i.e dice, ability scores, etcetera - this is very much still a narrative driven RP. To place a ratio to it this will be 3/4 narrative and 1/4 dice rolls and scoring.

• Post content should range within three to six paragraphs. In some instances less than three paragraphs is acceptable, but even then bare minimum should be no less than around eight to ten sentences.

• Discord will be used for a notable amount of communication/discussion while IC content will predominantly remain onsite.

• Please use headers at the top of your posts that include your character’s name, the date, and any other relevant details to the scene.

• Please notify the GM of any extended absence you may need/have. I am willing to work with you if you just let me know. If you have simply lost interest I would still appreciate a heads up with my guarantee of no hard feelings.

GAMEPLAY AND DICE

ATTRIBUTES & SKILLS

Attributes are the core traits of a character, such as strength, intelligence, or agility, that define their natural capabilities. Skills represent learned abilities or training that determine how effectively a character performs specific actions or tasks. As Attributes are foundational of set Skills whenever an Attribute is increased all related Skills are increased. Individual Skill increases also increase the “parent” Attribute.

There are eight Attributes - Strength, Endurance, Speed, Agility, Personality, Intelligence, Willpower, and Luck. - and twenty-one Skills - Blade, Blunt, Hand-to-Hand, Armorer, Block, Heavy Armor, Athletics, Acrobatics, Alteration, Destruction, Restoration, Alchemy, Conjuration, Mysticism, Illusion, Security, Sneak, Marksman, Light Armor, Mercantile, and Speechcraft.

Attributes are all based upon player race and birthsign with each race and birthsign having their own set value to be added applied.

For Skills players will set 7 Skill choices as their major skills which will start at 25 and set 14 minor skills which will start at 5. Skills and Attributes both peak at 100.

Player race and birthsign will contribute unique modifiers/buffs as well as penalties. Remember to factor these in to both Attributes and Skills when creating a character.

Attributes and Skills will increase naturally over long periods of time, the best way to increase them being through player actions throughout the RP and training. Players are meant to develop their Attribute and skills on par with their class.

DICE ROLLS

Dice rolls will be used to decide the outcome of most crucial situations and player actions throughout the RP, such as performances of persuasion, acts of skullduggery and intrigue, feats of great strength or dexterity, and so on.

There are Attribute checks and Skill checks. Attribute checks are decided by adding the outcome of a dice roll and a characters’ Attribute score. Skill checks by adding the outcome of a dice roll, the score of the specific Skill, as well as the score of the Attribute the Skill is related to. The latter can be helpful for a character that, for example, has poor two-handed Skill training but a strength boost.

Combat in the RP will mostly be narrative though key moments in duels and large battles will be influenced by dice rolls.

Two d10’s will be used for environmental checks and one d20 for checks between characters.

It was a cool night in Saint Louis, the first night of August. The city was lively as always and brilliantly lit up by the glow of skyscrapers, street lamps, and an endless flow of evening commuters coursing through the streets. Car horns blared, sirens wailed, and the voices of thousands of people carried high above the ground. Tonight, however, there was something that gave Saint Louis a “greater” energy. Something that had the eyes of sports entertainment fans and aficionados directed at the STL. - The Rubicon Gauntlet.

No Mercy Wrestling, the hottest new independent wrestling promotion, had been live for just one month now. And even with all the excitement of recent signings by new talent, rivalries building up in the ring, and the clear drama between management that the fans seem to be eagerly soaking in, there was something obvious lacking - reigning champions. The last two weeks of July had seen the NMW fans endlessly pleading to the see the metal and calling for the first title matches in the infant brands’ history. CEO Mark Trenton and General Manager Antonio Deguara “agreed” that there was no way to decide among both the men and women’s rosters which two rising stars would be best suited to be put forth up as potential champions. Even without considering the array of talent on both rosters, the executives in the company cherry picking two wrestlers from each division would just sew resentment among many of the fans as well as anger much of both rosters. After some discussion among upper management it was settled that a tournament would be the best way to decide who among the rosters would face off at a special PLE finale - another first for NMW - to crown the men and women’s champions.

A poll was posted online to allow the fans to vote for their choice wrestlers and after sixty hours the decisions were in. Twelve men and twelve women were chosen by the NMW fans for a shot at the title by fighting their way through the aptly named Rubicon Gauntlet. The two who survived a variety of matches over three rounds in four weeks would face off in a final epic title match on August thirtieth at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. The first half of the first round was to take place in Saint Louis, Missouri and would consist of normal rules matches. The Enterprise Center was sold out with every seat filled and plenty of fans crowded in the parking lot and surrounding areas, tailgating and enjoying the opening men’s match on the big screens outside.

Tonight was the first night of what was expected to be a phenomenal few weeks for No Mercy Wrestling. The men and women that were part of this tournament were all part of something historic for the brand and they would all be remembered for years to come.

The Abecean, the untamed sea of legend, is the gateway to the Imperial heartland as well as Hammerfell, High Rock, Valenwood, and the Summerset Isles. Punctuated by resplendent port cities and bustling trade routes, its straits and channels form the major arteries of commerce and travel for western Tamriel. The wealth and will of nations is carried across its waves. Vast and unyielding, the Abecean Sea is an expanse through which the very currents of history flow.

But the Abecean is as dangerous as it is promising. Pirates and privateers prey on merchant ships and other travelers, setting upon their quarry and vanishing as quickly as they appeared - leaving only burning wreckage and bloated corpses in their wake. The perils of the Abecean Sea are not only those of Men and Mer. Within the darkest depths dwell many bestial horrors, the worst being the krakens and sea serpents of many a sailor’s tale whose sudden emergence can shatter hulls and drag ships into the crushing abyss. Such creatures stand as a daunting reminder that the freedoms and opportunities of the Abecean are matched only by its unforgiving nature.

In spite of this, innumerable souls sail the Abecean, driven by ambition, duty, or desperation. Merchants wager their fortunes on fair winds and safe passage, envoys and soldiers cross its waters in service to distant rulers, and exiles seek new beginnings beyond the horizon. But all must be wary, for even the most uneventful crossing of the Abecean Sea might see the winds of fate suddenly change a man or woman’s life in the most dramatic of ways…

You are a passenger aboard the Arslan’s Fortune, a trade vessel on it’s return home from the city of Anvil. What began as a calm journey with fair winds took a turn for the worse and the ship was soon cast into dangerous waters. By the time a new course was set it was too late, trouble was approaching. Whatever your reasons for booking passage aboard the Arslan’s Fortune were now irrelevant. Your only concern now was surviving the night…

WELCOME AND GREETINGS!

For quite some time I have been entertaining the possibility of a TES swashbuckling RP and finally decided to pull it from the idea board and place it on the writing table. Ask me any questions you may have, and if you are feeling contributory then please offer your own constructive opinions and ideas! 💯

Based in the universe of The Elder Scrolls, this RP is set in the Abecean Sea region one year prior to the events of The Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim. An area that is crucial economically, culturally, politically, and militarily. As is presented in the introductory prompt player characters start off as passengers aboard a Breton merchant ship, the Arslan’s Fortune. On its voyage back to its port of berth the Arslan’s Fortune is blown off course and is soon after attacked by pirates. In the chaos of the fighting both vessels are severely damaged and soon taking on water, forcing both attackers and defenders to abandon ship. As luck would have it the battle took place not too far from the island of Stros M’Kai where player characters will find themselves thereafter - be it that they swam there or were washed ashore.

While I will not further spoil plot details players will immediately find that affairs on the island are desperate and that Stros M’Kai has fallen on hard times. Current political and military affairs are weighing heavy on the entire region, particularly the going “cold conflict” between the Aldmeri Dominion and the rest of Tamriel. Corruption and treachery are rampant across the islands and piracy is on the rise. Thalmor Justicars and privateer ships lurk the coastlines and the Emperor’s Penitus Oculatus has spies everywhere. And then there is the ever present authority of the Crowns of Hammerfell who seek to curtail the rising instability off their coast. Players will be presented with the opportunity to join factions and guilds, support particular characters or groups in their immediate and-or longterm goals, or set out on their own as a blade for hire or a brigand of the high sea.

The freedom and opportunities of the Abecean Sea are yours to take advantage of, it is up to you to chart your own course… for better or worse.

FINAL POINTS AND REMINDERS

• This is a fandom RP so naturally I expect players to have at the very least basic knowledge of The Elder Scrolls.

• This will be an “open sandbox” RP. While players will be encouraged to forge their own paths with their characters veering widely/totally disconnecting from the main plot is discouraged.

• Excluding myself, the ideal group size will range from three to six (Maximum.) players.

• Discord will be integral for this RP.

• The Discord server is TBA/WIP.

• While this is not a true tabletop RP there will be dice rolls and applied modifiers for chance situations to mix things up and add a layer of intensity, narratively speaking.

• Rules, "gameplay", and player expectations will be provided in the official thread.

• I am in the central United States time zone (UTC-06:00) for clarification/reference.

“So, I can confidently say that we all already know some of the names expected to make the final list,” Brent said, “do you have any predictions you would care to give at this moment?”

“I could,” Mark replied wryly, “but I am going to refrain from doing so. I don’t want to in any way influence the voting or give an impression of bias.”

“I understand.” Brent responded with a casual wave of his left hand, though there was a flash of disappointment on his face. “So, what can you tell us about the tournament itself, Mister Trenton? What kind of action can everyone expect?” Brent leaned slightly to one side as he made his next query.

“The first round of the tournament will be made up of singles matches with the standard ruleset,” Mark began, “after all of which are done only six of the twelve chosen wrestlers will remain. The second round will be where the rules go out the window.” Mark paused again, letting his words hang for a few seconds then continuing. “Next will be a round of extreme rules matches; tables, chairs, kendo sticks, and no ringside ten counts. After this there will only be three wrestlers left.”

“And what then?”

“A three person steel cage match,” Mark declared, his tone becoming upbeat, “the two contestants to make it out of the steel cage in the third and final round will go on to face each other in a singles match for the championship.”

Another pause.

“And… this will be the layout for both the men and women’s division?”

“Yes.”
