Henry Olin

Henry J. Olin was standing right in front of her, and no matter how hard she tried, Elise felt small. Like she was a kid again, staring up at her father. Still, she showed no signs of feeling this way. She kept herself tall, and when he smiled with a sharp and toothy mouth, Eli didn’t even look at the large incisors. He could probably rip someone’s arm off with those. She felt his laugh deep inside of her chest, as if it shook her bones. It took up the entire room. In her peripherals she saw a few of their colleagues raise their heads and do a double take at the sight. It must have been amusing to see Elise look so small, even though her personality was bigger than all of their own combined.

She noticed him glance at the desks, but she could tell right away that he wasn’t the office type. That was good. It was a relief that her new partner wasn’t going to just sit around like some of her past babysitters had done. Henry turned and opened the door to the office, and Eli only gave the files sitting on her computer a second of thought before she metaphorically threw them out of the window.

"We can get to know each other while saving the world, yeah? Go suit up. There's people dying out there."

Eli grinned. His words brought out every ounce of energy she’d wasted within these walls when her old partners decided to sit around and research instead of getting their hands dirty. Of every time she’d been told to stand down when she could have acted and saved lives. Finally, someone who gets it!

”Yes, sir, she said with a nod, and didn’t waste a moment more as she proceeded past the giant man. ”I’ll meet you out front in ten minutes.”

It really only took her five minutes to change. The excitement of her first patrol with Agent Olin took over her actions as she quickly suited up in the staff locker room. She even allowed herself a moment to release the excitement in a muffled squeal before she took a deep breath and returned to her usual reserved mannerisms. She normally didn’t like feeling like a happy little girl, but the moments came and went and she allowed her inner child to return behind closed doors. But now wasn’t the time to act in such a way. She wanted to impress her new partner, and she needed to take this seriously. This was the moment she’d been waiting for at FAMA. If she could prove herself to Henry J. Olin, she could prove herself to the entire organization. It wasn’t so much about pride and rewards. It was more about showing that if she was given enough support, she could make a meaningful impact on the lives of deltahumans and humans alike. That was the goal here, really.

She emerged into the light of day with a determined look on her face. While most field agents preferred a heavier approach to their protection, Eli chose to wear lighter gear so that she’d have more mobility and speed in an altercation. She dressed in the usual light green cargo pants, black t-shirt, and light combat boots. On her right thigh she wore a black holster for her gun, and she wore a utility belt with a flashlight, a fixed blade combat knife, and taser gun around her waist. She also sported a midweight bulletproof vest, tied her hair up in a ponytail, and placed a plain black cap over it. The only indication that she was FAMA was the badge displayed on the left breast of her vest. Someone could easily mistake her for a policewoman, if they didn’t look close enough. While she usually preferred her undercover look, today she voted for the formal garb so that she would fit in next to her giant FAMA partner. To be honest, it was going to be hard to blend in with the crowd next to him anyways.

Henry smiled down at her as she approached- he was more heavily armed, albeit that came as a necessity for his stature. He wore a thick, class IV plated ballistic armor vest over his torso, shoulder, and thighs, with thinner class three armor plating over his legs, arms, and tail- all connected to one another by several layers of kevlar. All things considered, no scales were visible beyond the tips of his fingers, toes, tail, and head- which was mostly exposed from upper neck upwards as he had chosen to forego any more unnecessary protection. All things considered he was over-prepared, but a part of him always churned at the thought of stepping out of the safezone and into the city. Never enough to stop him, but enough to bring him back to Verthaven for just a fleeting moment. Enough to remind him of what was lost.

So he had stuck with his preparations- as a creature more suited to heavy assault, he carried a firearm that was representative of such. It was an odd weapon- specially designed for one his size. It appeared to be a scale up P90, too large for easy usage by a standard man but large enough to be comfortably used by one such as himself. Compact- or at least as compact as a gun could be for one his size, lightweight with a mostly polymer and plastic design, ambidextrous in case of emergency usage for someone else, and most importantly it fired the standard 5.56mm ammunition that was standard for most common assault rifles rather than the P90’s specially made 5.7mm. His vest contained most of the standard equipment- a heavy duty flashlight, handcuffs, three spare magazines… but no knives, batons, tasers, or mace that would normally be found in an officer’s possession.

Mostly because, well, he didn’t need them.

“You’re fast.” Henry said simply, recognizing the woman’s impressive ability to suit up. It had taken him almost a decade to master that art- and that was with ample practice. “Here, catch.” he continued, not missing a beat as he tossed her a small object- for her that was. It seemed impossibly small in his gigantic hands.

Eli picked up on the toss the moment he began to raise his arm, and effortlessly caught what could only be described as his pitch. Despite its size, with Henry’s bulk behind it, it traveled closer to the speed of a softball player’s underhand than it did an easy toss between friends. He was testing her reflexes. Eli smirked at the challenge. He had tossed her car keys. ”Where to, boss?”

”Dunno.” Henry said easily. ”I was thinking we would go through downtown.”

It was a simple phrase, but the area they were in was a low activity safe zone where order had, for the most part, been established. The way of life that had been around before the earthquake has long since disappeared, but there was safety and security in the area that had forced looting and gang activity to low or nonexistent levels. If the city had any sort of faction system, this was one of the areas where government organization was strongest.

Henry was suggesting they travel to a yellow zone, bordering red. Granted, it suited his narrative of going to help people, but it was dangerous all the same. People died there. Men, women, children, officers, FAMA agents… things happened. There was a constant, ever looming sense of danger (and in Henry’s case, dread) that loomed over those areas. Perhaps this was some other test- he had scales like kevlar so he wanted to see if she had nerves of steel. Perhaps he wanted to see that resolve. Perhaps there was no sense of danger to him- she could believe it, bullets were more like paintballs than anything else to him. He led her over to a convoy truck, large and bulky as it was. Grit and rubber and steel warped in ways far tougher than any civilian vehicle. It was a deep green, not quite urban camouflage but far from an attention grabbing color- although the size alone might turn some heads. Normally these vehicles were used to transport a task force- ten to a dozen men at a time or more. ”Have a truck driving license?” He questioned, looking down at his partner with an easy grin.

”You know, I’ve been meaning to get one of those. It’s just that every time I signed up for the classes, they were full.” She swung open the driver’s side door, and climbed up into the rig. ”It’s never stopped me before.” She gave Henry a cheeky grin. ”I doubt it’s necessary now.”

With that said, she shut the door and easily got the engine rumbling before rolling the window down. ”Hop on in, agent! Next stop: downtown LA.” With that said she faced forwards, and began to adjust the mirrors in the rig. The last person to drive it must have been at least half Henry’s size, and it gave her a moment to think about Henry’s destination.

While Eli was happy that one of her partners finally wanted to patrol downtown, Eli couldn’t help but feel a little anxious. First day on the job, and he’s taking me to the second most dangerous section of LA. He doesn’t have a death wish, does he? She pressed her lips together. No. He just wanted to get to an area where the two of them would make a difference. We certainly aren’t wasting time to get to the nitty, gritty side of this job.

Eventually, Elise felt the weight of the truck shift towards the back as Henry climbed in. She chuckled, and hoped that the rig could still do 60+ mph with such a large load inside, or that Henry was a fast runner. She lifted her right hand towards the back wall and tapped on the sliding panel that could offer Henry a view into the cabin and to the road ahead. ”All set back there?” She shifted the rig into gear, and took an easy start in case Henry was getting comfortable in the back while she waited for his response. Let’s survey the 110. I want to see the National Guard’s reaction to Henry in the back when we pull through their access gate

There was some rustling around as the giant moved, shifting the truck’s weight towards the front- and then suddenly half of Henry’s enormous head took up the empty space behind the sliding panel. He was, as funny as it was to imagine, quite excited looking- almost like a dog being taken for a car ride and excited to peak its head out the window. He pulled away and gave the woman a thumbs up, signalling that he was all set in the back.

They went north- passing through the access gate and quite literally flooring the poor sap who had to peek under the truck’s covers. The color had drained from his skin seeing a literal juggernaut sitting pretty in the back, but he had laughed it off when the other Guardsmen let him in on the joke. Apparently this wasn’t Henry’s first time scaring a few people at this particular stop and the jolly white giant had earned a bit of a reputation as a pseudo-boogieman of sorts- albeit far less nefarious. They continued onwards, periodically making a stop on the highway so Henry could either take a leak or move obstacles off of the highway to allow their particularly large convoy truck to move through with no issues. It had been quite a sight to see the lizard dig his talons into the sheet metal of a trailer and, with some struggle, single handedly pull an entire semi truck off the highway and into the median. He had been boarding the transport truck again when he froze.

”I hear gunfire.” he said. His voice was even but it carried an edge to it that she hadn’t heard before. It cut through all the background noise of the world around them- dicing straight through the churning of the diesel engine. His voice carried like he was right in her ear, despite being a dozen feet away at the tail of the truck. ”Do you hear it?”

“No. Where is it?”

”You can tap into my sensory abilities, right?” he said, ignoring her initial question. The truck shifted, as he stepped out and away from the truck and walked over to the window of her door. He was so tall that even with the additional height of the truck she couldn’t see his face. He seemed to know this, either by reading her mind or more likely through experience, and easily dropped to one knee so she could speak to his face. She had never been this close to him before- she could discern every individual black and white scale and his eyes… god, they had to be the size of baseballs. She could see his teeth now too, as he spoke. Three rows, like a shark’s. They had to be over three inches long each. This was a person once, she realized. Warped and twisted into some combination of man and beast, but he had been just a normal human. He didn’t seem to notice her momentary fascination, or if he did, he didn’t care.

”You’ll be doing it a lot. Now’s as good a time as any to get used to it.”

Elise nodded in response, and immediately set to focusing on Henry’s mind. While she’d only given using his senses to her advantage once, it was nothing like she’d expected. A second after she stared into his large eyes, she could suddenly hear within a block radius of their location. Her eyes widened, and her brain struggled for a moment to process it before it felt comfortable. Willing to go further, Eli allowed herself to latch onto every sensation in Henry’s body. ”What does it feel like to be a nine foot tall saurosapien?” You might ask? Eli could see colors that she’d never seen before- seeing heat rather than just feeling it. She could see her own red, blue, and yellow form sitting before him. She could even see her legs through the door of the truck, though it was muted by the metal. She could taste the air- the salty breeze that still drifted over LA from the Pacific. She could hear gunfire as if it was happening in the next lane over. If it was nighttime, Eli was sure that she’d be able to see everything around them even on the darkest night. It felt like she was in a world without shadows.

”This is… wow.” She grinned at him. ”You’re fantastic.”

Suddenly, the two of them could hear more bullets ricocheting off of walls. Eli’s smile faded, and she gave him a look of determination. ”I know an exit we can take up the road that will bring us right to it. Let’s go.”

Henry nodded, a wide grin creeping its way across his face. ”God, it is so nice to have someone around who can finally feel it too. Lead the way.” he said, his voice giving way to his excitement at Elise’s ability to discern the direction like he could. In his joy he raised his hand and smacked the side of the door- leaving a large, knuckle sized dent in the car’s frame. Elise just about jumped out of her skin, and Henry visibly winced at his fuckup.

”I-” he began, but stopped himself. ”Back of the truck. Right. Sorry.”

He scampered back in a flurry of scales and military grade protection gear- the only indication that he was ready being the sudden lurches of the truck as the suspension compensated for the sudden weight.

Eli just laughed it off and shook her head as she shifted the rig into gear. For the sake of safe driving, she let go of the ability to see heat. It would prove useful at night, but for now it was too much to handle. The pair continued on, both listening to the far away but seemingly close sounds of a battle between rivals. It was obvious that they were about to be in the midst of a fight between two gangs. What was odd about it was that there only seemed to be gunfire from one side, but as the two neared the point among the streets of South Park they could hear the voices from the opposite. The truck stopped a quarter of a mile away, blocked by a pileup of rusting cars. Elise immediately hopped out of the truck, and walked up to the closest car. She pulled her handgun from it’s holster and turned to look at her partner. ”Lead the way, Olin.”

Eli was still feeling a bit embarrassed. This felt nothing like her emotional talks with Maddy after the breakout, or with Lynn at the restaurant. She missed Keaton, with her long days of watching movies and eating popcorn while they dished the acting and storylines. After the breakout, and after the bonfire, Eli had been going through her own turmoil. This time everyone was going through it. If felt like Eli was the only one that was feeling so shitty about it. As much as she wanted to blame it on their troubled pasts before they came to the station, she couldn't help but feel that there was something wrong with her.

Then Natalie put her hand on Eli's shoulder and gave her a smile. The gesture was unexpected, but it reminded her so much of her mom. It had the same gentle approach that only someone who cared would give. Natalie was right. She did have friends, and at this point they were all so closely knit together that it would be hard to make sharing her feelings feel wrong around them. Seeing them all together again, in one mish-mash of a piece... It would feel nice. Even after she'd seen half of them soaked in their own blood, and the one she'd least expected to turn on her nearly killed her.

She looked over at Natalie and her smile widened. It wasn't forced, or half-hearted. It was real. The kind of smile she used to give her mother after a comforting hug. She would have hugged Natalie too, if she didn't have to worry that Natalie might not know her strength and crush her on accident. It wasn't out of fear, no, but out of caution. Out of the corner of her eye she thought she saw a sad look in Nicholas's face, but when she turned her head she only saw another comforting smile. Had she imagined it?

As she listened to him speak, she could tell that he was being completely honest with her. It was a rational approach to trauma. Eli could understand that. If she wanted to get better, she'd have to try harder. While she wouldn't need Nicholas to kill a rat for her, (mostly because there weren't any rats on the station), it was nice to hear that he'd help her if she needed it. He smirked and said that everyone included her. Eli chuckled at that, and gave him a gentle nod. "Thank you, Nicholas." She turned to Natalie too. "And thank you, too."

Before she could make any other sappy remark, she felt her phone buzz in her pocket and heard a little ding♪. Flooded with the instant urge to find out who responded, Eli reached to pull her cell out and read it. A wave of relief passed over her when she read it and she let out a sigh.

"It's Lynn, Nat. She actually responded." She looked up at Natalie. "She wants to know if I'm with Keaton. Guess she is wondering if we're there yet." She was about to text back, but then a question popped into her head. "Do you know where we're supposed to go? Archie said something about flour and I have no idea what that means. Keaton hasn't texted me back yet."

She looked over at Nicholas, and suddenly struggled with the thought of inviting him too. The others didn't really know him. Lynn sure as hell wouldn't like it if he was there. She never really took kindly to strangers. Archie might not like it if the guy who threw a bomb at him was there, either. Or was he blacked out, when that happened?

"Nicholas, give me your number. Maybe sometime we can all get together and explain what happened at the bonfire." She held out her phone to him, and decided that exchanging numbers would be better instead of an invitation. He seemed like a good guy, and in this time of strife and struggles, it would be nice to have another person to call a friend. She gave him a smile just to make the gesture genuine. "We're gonna have to go soon, but it was nice to run into you."

At that exact moment, Eli received a text from Keaton too. It was in the form of a huge group chat between who she assumed was the group.

From Keaton: Picnic time. See you near the woods.

Eli raised an eyebrow, until a second later Cara chimed in.

"Keaton means to say that she will meet you at the park down the street from Cianwood's."

Nicholas. Eli remembered the way he looked standing at the edge of the clearing, back before everything headed in a dark direction. "Tall dark and blandsome," as Lynn referred to him. Lynn's amusing description of him had gone completely over her drunk little head at the time, but now it only made her smile grow wider as she listened to him speak to Natalie. Whether it was the drink, or the aftermath of chasing Lynn into the forest, she didn't quite remember much of him at the party. In fact, she hadn't even seen him since. "Partying isn't really something I've done much of." Why had he said that? If Lynn hadn't run off to the woods, she probably would have asked that exact question.

Eli looked him over, recognizing his tense stature that resembled a security officer. That's what she thought he was, before she realized he was another awkward, teenage para at the party. So, what could make a teenager stand in such a way? She considered a few possibilities, but it was hard to focus on the outcomes while Nicholas was picking away at his ear. Was he nervous? He seemed nervous at the party, too. In fact, she thought it odd that it would take him so long to respond to her question. She glanced over at Natalie, and wondered if Natalie had any hunches too. Was the guy just stuck in his head?

His mosquito excuse wasn't convincing, at all, and the full-bodied laugh didn't exactly sell the excuse either. Then he just stared at Natalie. A full on, almost confrontational stare. Eli's eyebrows furrowed for a moment before she looked over at Natalie. Seriously, what is with this guy? Was it her new look, or was he remembering something about her from the bonfire? Or the loading bay? She couldn't help herself, and gave Natalie an awkward smile. Should she apologize to her, after this encounter, for siccing such an odd scenario on them?

“Oh, sorry. I thought about it a little bit and, honestly, my mind just started wandering. No--not wandering, I.. Yeah. I was there. And I’m really sorry.”

Eli looked back to Nic and was relieved to see that he'd regrouped whatever was going on up in that head of his. So, he'd been in the loading bay. Maybe his mind was just a little messed up because of the trauma. Why apologize, though? Eli tilted her head to the side, and a look of concern came over her face. Despite how odd he appeared, Eli couldn't help but empathize for him. Sometimes someone just needs to get it all out, and maybe Nicholas felt that she herself was the person to trust with the dark thoughts.

And then he began to explain himself.

Eli listened closely, and found herself looking between his eyes, down at the scar on his arm, and back up at his face. So... that's where the explosion had come from. Eli felt her heart begin to beat faster within her chest as she relived the moment through Nic's eyes. She imagined the giant beast as it charged towards two helpless girls, one of them looking and acting exactly as she had that day. He's seen a lot of things? What kind of things? The apology made sense, now, in Nic's own odd way. He tried to help her, he tried to stop Archie- he didn't know it was Archie, of course- and now he felt bad because the explosion could have gotten her and Keaton too. It was touching that he would even try to help her, even if his actions had been reckless.

The rest of the details floated through Eli's mind and she assumed that the girls he was speaking of had been Amelia and Lynn. He even tried to help them, too. Eli swallowed, and found it hard to shake the feelings from that day from her now.

"It looked like you were having a real bad time with it all."

Yeah, that was an understatement. She'd been having the worst time of her life. Her people were being attacked, her friends were bleeding out around her, and her good friend hulked out and almost killed her and Keaton. Now she was about to go meet up with everyone. Even the one that Nic tried to save her from. Was she okay? Am I okay? Not really. Did she want to tell Nicholas? Not really, either, but she had this gut feeling that he was here now on good intentions. Maybe Nicholas could be the one that she laid out all of her raw emotions in front of.

"I'm..." She began, finding it hard to speak. "I'm not doing great, actually." She glanced between Nicholas and Natalie, and felt her cheeks burn from embarrassment. It was rare that Eli ever felt speaking truthfully in front of anyone about her own problems. Most of the time she was able to handle them on her own, and she never had to discuss them with anyone. She could count the amount of times she'd cried in front of someone on her hands, and most of them had been in front of Maddy. Like when she and Ezekiel had broken things off, or after the breakout when they grieved together for him. In any other instance, Eli was the one that looked out for her friends. It felt strange to admit her feelings to someone, but right now it felt right, too. Natalie was a good friend now, and Nicholas had secretly been there for her without letting her even realize it.

"I'm finding it hard to bounce back from this one, to be honest." This was too much. She was making it sound much worse than how she actually felt. Was she just lying to herself, when she told herself that she was doing fine? Reel it back in, Eli. This isn't your pity party. She recovered from the moment by giving her two friends a small smile. "I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way right now. I think I just need a bit more time to recover."

And maybe a bunch of tequila to help with it. God, when was the last time I got drunk?

6:05 AM

Elise was awake twenty-five minutes before her alarm clock. She shifted beneath the sheets and rolled onto her back. When she opened her eyes, she was greeted by a foreign ceiling. She blinked a few times before her brain could remind her that she wasn't in her apartment anymore. Home sweet home. She thought before rolling herself out of bed.

Fifteen minutes later, Elise was stepping out of the apartment and into the streets of Harbor Gateway North. She turned right and began her morning jog. It took her down a few blocks, to the left, and towards what was now the base of operations for the Federal Agency of Metahuman Affairs. After the incident, the major outpost for FAMA in LA had been the first target of many gangs. Located on the outskirts of Downtown LA, the building had suffered quite a bit of damage. The skyscraper next door was the only one to blame, besides the two deltahumans at the center of the earthquakes. As well equipped and staffed as it had been even after the incident, it hadn't lasted long.

So now Elise found herself stationed only a five minute jog away from the new in Harbor Gateway North, along with the portion of the refugees from other regions of LA that managed to get themselves to safety. She didn't even give the building a glance as she passed by. She'd see it in a few hours. Instead, she headed North towards the 105 highway. The National Guard, with the help of FAMA and any remaining police forces, had set its sight on southern LA the moment they arrived. With it's focus on the Port of Los Angeles, the Guard soon pushed it's region of operations all of the way up to the 105, over to the border of LA County and Orange County, and followed along the 105 to Hawthorne and Manhattan Beach. With this region of LA under it's protection, the Guard had access to supply shipments coming into the Port and the Long Beach Airport. Originally it's sights were set on the LAX, but of course it too had been one of the first major connections in and out of LA to fall to the chaos.

Elise soon came to a stop on the top of the tallest hill in Athens. She looked out over the intersection of the 105 and the 110, and pulled a pair of binoculars from her jacket's pocket as she caught her breath. Looking through the instrument, she found herself peering at the largest North station of the Guard. This intersection was key to their operation, too. The 110 offered direct access to Downtown Los Angeles, with only a fifteen minute drive through hostile districts to get there. As battered as downtown LA was, it was still a valuable asset. Why, you might ask? Well, to put it simply, it was home to the epicenter of the Los Angeles Metro. If the Guard could get it's hands on it, it could travel through the ~500 square miles of LA with ease.

As great of an idea as it seemed, Elise thought that it was a lost cause. While the Guard managed to get the green line running again along with half of the blue line, to protect each line of the LA Metro would spread it's forces too thin. Even with FAMA's agents and the police, it wouldn't be enough to hold it. Why waste time focusing on the metro, when they could continue to advance north until all of LA was under it's protection? Why stop at the 105? Eli certainly didn't let it stop her. In the few assignments that Eli was given since the earthquakes, she'd made it all of the way to the looted and burnt neighborhoods of Beverly Hills and back without much interference. If the Guard really was LA's knight in shining armor, wouldn't they just keep fighting their way North?

It was too early for these kind of thoughts. Eli had other things to think about, at the moment. With a frown, she pocketed the nocs once more before turning back. This time she ran to keep herself focused on the area around her instead of in her head. There was too much to think about now. She just wanted a few minutes of peace before her troubles and LA's troubles took control of her mind. She made it back to her apartment in ten minutes, and only let her thoughts run loose while she showered off the sweat.

8:00 AM

Back outside of FAMA's new headquarters, Elise took a breath to focus herself before she made her way inside. She entered the building and stepped right into the short security screening line. Before she passed through the metal detector, Elise removed her FAMA issued handgun and placed it in the bin along with her cell. Which, surprisingly, had lasted her through the incident and over the past few months. She flashed her badge as she stepped through, and gathered her possessions before she headed towards her division's offices.

Today she would be meeting her new partner, Henry J. Olin. As her first official partner in weeks, Elise was excited to be paired with such an experienced agent. The guy had been an agent of RAVEN, had operated as a special ops agent in the infamous Operation Desert Shield, and she'd even read that he was one of the few survivors of Verthaven and emerged a decorated war hero in his file. He was quite popular among the students of the FAMA training academy, so this was a huge sign that Eli was getting somewhere in the organization. With Henry as her partner, there was no way that she'd be sent on small, serum bust errands again. Even the guy's description was enough to convince her that she was being taken more seriously. The other agents would definitely back off now that she was being partnered with a nine foot tall, deltahuman with the weight of a semi. She was basically being partnered with the Hulk, but in lizard form. Even with his massive stature, Eli had a lot of respect for him because of his record alone.

This was a huge opportunity for Elise to learn from an expert, and she was ready to advance in her training just by going on missions with him. She entered the office area with her chin held high, and headed straight for her new base of operations to meet with Henry. Well, base of operations as in, their own fairly large office with two desks and computers attached. It was a formal way to meet each other, but the space would be where Eli and maybe even Henry did most of her investigations before they would take their operations to the streets.

Without wasting any time, Eli already set herself down at her desk and began to pull up the files that interested her most. If Henry agreed with her, they could set out within the same day to get started. She kept herself busy like this until her new partner finally arrived. As soon as he approached, Elise stood to her feet and stepped towards him. She surprisingly found it easy to ignore his size, and cleared her throat so that her voice would be clear as she reached a hand out towards him.

"Agent Olin, it's very nice to meet you. I'm not sure if you're one to drop the formalities, but you can just call me Wessex." She smiled up at the giant man, and resisted the urge to word vomit every detail of his past operations and how impressed she was by him. She wasn't one to immediately admit her respect for someone, but it was incredibly tempting to do so to the infamous Dragonfly. Instead, she chose to greet him like she would with any other agent. A human approach would make it much easier to gain respect from Olin, in her opinion. The guy was probably tired of being reminded of his past. Now she just had to wait for his reaction, and hope that their partnership would blossom.
Hello, old friends

Elara

Location: Mojo... world?
Skills: Vertigo Inducement

When Longshot set himself free, Elara stepped backwards in case he immediately attacked again. She remained in a defensive position until he'd apologized and introduced himself. Rita, huh? Does that mean...?

Longshot's explanation answered her own question. So, Spiral is just another brainwashed Mojo muppet. Great. What if she had been working with Mojo the entire time? What if this was just another mind game? If the reality they were just in wasn't the quote-on-quote real Mojo world, then were they about to be sent into it next? Elara glanced between Andrew, Longshot, Sapphire, and the others.

Elara wasn't exactly ready to be in a dark, hidden alley with someone who had just "re-emerged" from a brainwashed state. The buzzing scout above them was enough to convince her that it was the right move, and so after Watts speedily examined it Elara followed the gang into it.

Arthur's gruff question reminded Elara that she was still producing a "clone" of Spiral. Obviously Longshot would think the question redundant if the thought that Spiral was with them in person. She let the illusion fade away, and before Longshot could react to the disappearance she turned to him and shrugged.

"I had to make sure that you were who she said you were. Can't be too careful after you just tried to kill us." She gave him an unsympathetic smile. "She asked us to get you out of that reality, and that's why we're choosing to trust you right now. Will you help us all escape Mojo?"
