My Very Brief Bio

Male, 33 years old. (I'm even more dead than before.)

Likes (other than writing and roleplaying): I'm into all genres of music. I love to cook. I love the outdoors, and walking through the park near my house. (Yes, really.) I read a lot of thriller/mystery novels. And I usually watch seasonal anime. (Or cooking shows. Because Western Media provides even fewer things that are worth watching.)

But as for my many other neglected hobbies, I've played basically every sport. (Soccer and Bowling being my favorite of the bunch.) And I'm trying to play more video games. (Going through my never-ending Steam library.) Plus, I've dabbled in making electronic & metal music, and I used to play a number of instruments. (Guitar, French Horn, etc.)

Hope you have a wonderful day!

Why do they need leaders?

Why is a government necessary?

Not saying either, or. But I will point out (since I'm still playing devil's advocate) that these are not synonymous words. People often do need and crave leadership and authority figures or something that guides their life. Finding it through religion, parental figures and in sadder cases celebrities. Some lead, some follow. As they say. Without a government, people would definitively still create groups and have people leading and making decisions in those groups. But that itself, isn't a government.
They have in the past restricted me from adding a dynamic to a character because their character already had that thing. I also wasn't allowed to add anything to the sandbox setting in general.

Fair enough, then yeah I'd agree that wouldn't be very open. (I suppose with context it would probably be a more clear cut case. Or the term for supporting player may mean different things. @Raddum for instance, was morely suggesting that the person or group was selectively restrictive to newer players because they aren't used to that player. Which honestly is often the case to be expected for long running roleplays or otherwise, but that's just personal experience with late joining.)
How about people who claim to be open and inviting to new members but want to play the main characters thus regulating the playerbase as supporting cast? I've run into this a few times and I hate it.

I guess you could classify that as being restrictive, in the opposition of openness in a way. But there has to be more to it than that. Because basically what you described, is "the person who plays all the important characters that shape the plot, and the rest of the people are supporting that plot." which very often just means the GM themselves...

I mean, in this scenario, you haven't even mentioned the person being purposefully restrictive. Like you're doing a roleplay (that for some godawful reason is using already in universe characters (not just concepts) as a main focus instead of making their own.) like doing a LOTR roleplay, where they're playing Frodo, Sam and Sauron. Not exactly a creative individual, but is that alone really completely disregarding others freedom to join, create or roleplay etc?

(I'm now getting a feeling this may have to do with like D&D campaigning or something along those lines and I understand it from that perspective.)
@catchamber *just to mention again for clarity sake I disagree with some of the things he presumes as well, hence devil's advocate, I myself could point out flaws.*

Like? (Because the introduction isn't really particularly the actual meat of the debate.)

Also, you told me how one day the government wouldn't need to run the world and that people could live without taxation even nowadays. So you probably agree with more things in the introduction than I do. :P
@TheTwistedOne Have enough interest to start this up? I'm itching for giving this one another go.
I thought you finally left this realm.

How disappointing to see you've returned

Moving's a bitch. But I'm glad I'm back too. ;D
“Let’s make a RP together!”

- radio silence for two months -

Alright then.

Maybe they were just taking their time giving you a definitive answer. c:

>reads 1x1 thread
>person wants good grammar and proofreading
>person fails to capitalize I, has issues using spacebar, and puts up a generally terrible display of grammar
person fails to proofread own interest check that expects people to proofread

...Was it at least spellchecked? Probably not.

This is why you don't try to subtly throw shade in the bitch thread.

you get off free like me if you blatantly do it

Yeah, it's worse when you don't do it at all. Because when people accuse you of ulterior motivations it gets super irritating, really fast. So better to damn the consequences. Sorry, I just got my internet back and felt there was too much irony not to throw into my two cents.

Well now that I finally was able to write and catch up with my roleplays. I can finally start working on my own 1x1 page and my fiction that I've been putting off until I finished moving...once I finish a hundred other things I need to finish first. -.-'
New Topic: We got any new resolutions?

*looks around to make sure he isn't lectured for not mentioning politics*

Well, I do have some (hopefully) reasonable goals for this year. Like losing a couple more pound when it warms up, get into daily excerise routine like my previous summer. (or at least maintaining the weight I have now. But I've been doing that longer than I realized after further thought.) But enjoying my new solo apartment life and my year in general would be a nice start. ;D

@Normie Not that I think anarchy is actually a viable political strategy for a productive society, it also doesn't really bring into account the great advancing of our society. I highly doubt it would be as simple and barbaric as those times, even considering the stereotype of what anarchy looks like. I disagree that it would just merely lead to the exact same form of government necessarily, or even have a governmental structure.

Though I suppose it depends on exactly where it's taking place, but the government also once used be a free public service that wasn't a paid job and didn't tax or have very much authority over anyone else. Also, I'd honestly feel safer in a world that started from anarchy, than one with strict governmental control like a dictatorship.

Also, despite not being my particular brand of politics. I'll play the devil's advocate and post someone's detailed explanation on why anarchy "would" work. (Though I disagree, it's not any less convincing than socialism.)

@KatherinWinter Finally got the internet this afternoon, but I had to get nap because I was exhausted. But I finally replied. Thank you for your patience, there shouldn't be anymore problems with moving this RP forward. ^-^
