"Do you think these new members will hinder the plan more than they help? Fodder rarely serves a purpose beyond hindrance anyways."

So far, the Black Tree has demonstrated precision and aptitude. All of the thugs had been professionals, as far as Dieselpunk could tell. Still, the only people she'd really gotten to know were the Stray Sheep inhabitants, and unlike most gangs, it seemed as if every job involved shuffling around with a different branch of the tree. This lack of familiarity with the people she was working with created some anxiety and discomfort. She had to keep reminding herself that the system was built on trust. At first she had accepted it as an aspect of what it means to be professional, to play in the big leagues. But given Midnight's statement, Dieselpunk had started doubting that hypothesis and was wondering if everyone thought it was kind of weird to constantly be meeting new people every job. It would explain why Verd was bristling so much right now.

But Dieselpunk wanted to give this 'Strike Team Granite' the benefit of the doubt. After all, she was hired muscle herself, not too long ago. To assuage Midnight's doubts as much as her own, Dieselpunk said, "Well, last time, at the bank, the robbers and other members seemed to know what they were doing. I'm sure this group is no different."

Then she raised her voice so the others could hear, "I won't really need any firearms, but would you happen to have a few of those trucks you could spare? Or are we bringing any other heavy machinery?"
Sorry for the delay, I can try getting a post up tonight, but that's still tentative. If you want to go forward, I can just include Dieselpunk's response to Midnight as part of my post for after the mission ahs started. She's not planning on causing any trouble, though I guess the only thing she would bring up is if there will be any heavy machinery on-site.

Hey, thanks for all the great feedback, and thanks for clarifying the boundaries of what is and is not acceptable for a backstory, especially concerning the 'culture' of the PROJECT. I had some basic ideas for the character, and in making a backstory which I had originally intended to be 'mildly tragic', as I was filling in the details, I probably just got a little lazy and started unwittingly layering on the tragedy unnecessarily. I prefer the idea that you suggested of this 'late-bloomer', who, despite being TC material, was never able to find a partner, and feels a bit like a reject.

One thing I do intend to keep is that she be older than the rest (if 25 is too much, I can scale it back a bit). The reason is I want her to be like this awkward big sister to the rest of the crew. Just old enough to be too old and therefore awkward. While she has the intention to be nurturing, her execution is lacking, as is her empathy. Emotionally stunted and unable to convey empathy properly, she sees her only form of expressing compassion in the act of making herself useful and be of utility to others. Part of her problem is the belief that she can be 'the glove that can fit any hand', and her having never found a suitable partner flies in the face of that. But it manifests in her personality, her obsessive, desperate attempts to be as excessively accommodating and compliant as possible. The prosthetic hands, then, form part of the reason she thinks she'd be a great TC, because machine parts are already an extension of her body, and create a 'Ghost in the Shell'-esque physical/organic dissociation.

Anyways, let me know if this is a better direction, and if anything that I have suggested still goes against the overall requirements of the character. In the meantime, I will begin to edit the character accordingly.

Maricola sprinted over and gave the creature currently calling itself Annatar a great big (and slimy, thanks to the loudspeaker demon) slap on the back. Granted, given Annatar and Maricola's current physical states it was less of a slap on the back and more of a volleyball spike directly into the pavement, but it was a friendly volleyball spike directly into the pavement all the same.

"Howzit going, Uncle Coobie? Papa wants to know if you're still working middle management for the kiddy fiddlers!"

Annatar hovered after Eris, trying to get her attention, "Meow, meow, meo-GUUUH!" Annatar was damn near pulverized into the ground by Maricola's spike. Both Annatar's creature form and humanoid form were fairly delicate, so a slap from the extension of a cosmic horror was not something he could take lightly. Still, as something of a cosmic horror himself, Annatar was able to make use of his ability to contradict physical laws to heal himself back into a recognizable form from the white and red puddle of meat he had been reduced to. Hovering around to face her, he sighed.

"Maricola, was it?" This statement was followed by an involuntary cough as a lump that hadn't reattached came flying out of his mouth, hitting the ground with a splat. Fuck. He had sensed the presence of Maricola's progenitor, whose name shall not be spoken, as soon as he had joined the academy. He had taken care to find out exactly who she was, and to keep his distance. After all, while Annatar lowered himself to understanding the 'logic', 'reasoning', and 'order' of mortals, and emulated it in order to better manipulate them, Maricola's progenitor, as well as others from the strange- charm- bottom- side of R'lyeh, chose to forgo any attempt at interface, preferring to induce madness in the lesser beings with their incomprehensible presence. At least that was the case before. Maricola's existence suggested a possible shift in tactic, though her unusual behavior was indicative of the incompleteness of their effort in making themselves comprehensible. While Annatar could attempt to interface with Maricola, such cosmic conversations could take eons, and as a creature with a physical form now, Annatar simply didn't have the patience. Still, now that they have made contact, Annatar felt he had no choice but to be Maricola's keeper, if only to keep her in view so that she doesn't throw his plans off track.

Flying over and landing on her shoulder, at first gingerly, making sure she didn't do something unexpected, then settling in, Annatar said, "I see the resemblance, you have your papa's $%#@%%#@%%." Seeing Eris now surrounded by a gaggle of other people, Annatar realized that he had, for the moment, lost his opportunity to recruit her. Oh well, there would be other chances, and plenty of other evil little girls (or boys) desperate for power. To answer Maricola's stinging question, he replied, "If you must know, I have been temporarily stripped of my position, but let's forget about that. We have a city to molest. On second thought, Annatar could have picked his words more wisely, given the implications of his job. Still, he doubted Maricola was even listening to him at this point.

On the topic of molesting little boys...Annatar paused and stopped himself from going down that train of thought. In any case, Annatar spoke up, "Maricola, head over to that boy in the backpack, I'm sure there is much devastation he could do in this city with his bag of tricks." If Maricola did not comply, Annatar would alight from her shoulder and approach Justin, "Boy, you seem...thoughtful. I like that. Annatar, Lord of Gifts, here to aid you in whatever mischief you feel up to."

Alright, done with my CS. Ophelia can be found here

I think Ophelia and Erik might make a good pair. @Sloth

Well, looks like I'm gonna try to shoot for another @Inkarnate RP.

Just throwing in my interest for now and will create a CS after I've read all of the opening post.

As it stands, what is the gender ratio?
@Dynamo Frokane

Hmm, Even though I expressed interest, because the four-way didn't kick off at the beginning and I got really busy with IRL stuff, I sort of just dropped the ball on this. Then, like an addict suffering withdrawal, I signed up to a handful of roleplays, expecting a few of them to die off, leaving me with a more manageable number, but so far, they're all still kicking. So do I want to commit to this? Do I have the bandwidth? No but dammit, I'mm gonna join anyways!

Anything I need to know about Nifril Orm's intended backstory? Or do I create it?

Annatar sat in the audience in rapt attention. While the 'tiny girl with monstrous power' was a worn out, familiar trope, it was Annatar's favorite. Some might call it 'gap moe', but to Annatar, there was nothing more appealing than seeing a cute, tiny, innocent body with the ability to commit atrocities. He loved this school. He loved the headmistress (figuratively, not literally). Though thinking on his semester, he had struggled, though he would never let it show. In the end, in RPG terms, he was a cleric-type: he was at his best when empowering others and providing support. Though his mastery over contradictions and blatant disregard for physical laws let him perform his own brand of magic, he could never hope to challenge the raw talent he had seen in some of his peers. But the synergy of giving them just the push they needed to be truly great, to be truly unstoppable! He thought about his classmates for a bit. There were many promising candidates. He had come to this school with a two-fold purpose. The first was to ascertain if he, by himself, could become powerful enough to take vengeance into his own hands, and his second was, in case the first proved impossible (it did, Annatar wasn't o arrogant as to not see it), he would find allies to exact his revenge for him. After all, no enemy is greater for a magical girl than a dark magical girl. He thought about his classmates for a bit. There were many promising candidates, and he wasn't going to be so conservative that he didn't consider boys as well. The only ones that he probably wasn't going to consider were the vampire, the demoness Angela, the space being, and the walking plague. They were either too old, too enigmatic, or too dumb.

As the speech finished and the portal opened, Annatar transformed into his creature form and hovered over. The dark valkyrie, Eris Reinhardt, caught his eye. A suitably gothic, edgelordy young lady, perfect material for a dark magical girl. Following her through the portal, he meowed to try to get her attention. Girls love meows.

"I'm sure you are eager to explore the realism of your craft in a new setting. I must say I'm eager to see for myself. Shall we investigate after you're done eating?"

"Huh?" Brunhillde looked up from her play-do creation. "O-oh, y-yes, of course! Right away, sir!" Though she had been playing with the food in her plate, she had somehow absorbed the gist of the conversation. Some people were worried about food: so Brunhillde was starting to formulate plans to make a hothouse. Some people were going to explore: so Brunhillde would plan to send some of Omniac's mini-robot insects to tag along and keep everyone in the same channel of communication. Some people talked about trade: so Brunhillde was already thinking about forms of transportation. If physics were real now, could she make trains? Planes? The possibilities were endless, and with magic to give things a push, who knew what wonders she could create?

"I will report my findings as soon as I get them!" Brunhillde stood up quickly, causing her chair to scrape the floor, "Oh, and those of you heading out, I'll send one of Omniac's scoutflies your way soon. Not sure if private messaging still works, but we can use Omniac's swarm network like walkie-talkies." Giddy, she headed down to her forge.

"Omniac!" Brunhillde called out upon entering her forge.

"Yes mistress? What do you require of me?" Mythos Biblios Omniac boomed, rising upon creaking limbs to stand at attention.

Since that line was something Brunhillde had programmed as a common response, she didn't think much of it. "Send a few of your scouts up to Kira, Merius, and Nebuchi. Oh and send one to Lord Overzealous and one to Lady Tea. Repeat everything that is said."

"Affirmative," Omniac opened its massive, enameled steel wing covers and released a few miniature versions of itself that flew out to their respective targets.

Turning to her forge, Brunhillde cracked her knuckles in excitement. She picked up an iron rod and threw it on the fire, pumping the bellows. The iron rod became red hot almost instantly, and Brunhillde wondered if this was due to her level as a blacksmith or the the fact that she was using a super-high-quality forge. Using some tongs to run the iron rod through the coals, she continued to pump the bellows to refine the iron to steel, by incorporating just enough carbon and using the air to burn off any excess. Though she knew it in principle, she had no real knowledge of how to actually blacksmith in real life, but her body seemed to move on muscle memory, certainly a result of her levels in the skill. Taking the bar out, she picked up a hammer and started having at. Clearly something inside her was taking over as she artfully pounded the metal, using force and finesse as necessary. Soon she was dunking the blade in water and polishing it off. Inspecting her work, it was just about where she wanted it to be. In her mind she recalled using her blacksmithing to craft a 'level 10 sword', so this time, she kept her mind focused on creating a sword of 'that level of quality'. Lo and behold, a weapon fit for a rookie, but not for a complete newbie. Still it seemed that autocrafting may not be a thing anymore, since she did have to stand here and go through all the motions. Or did she?

Looking at her gauntlets, Brunhillde desperately wanted to try something. "ANIMATE WEAPON!" A loud din of steel followed as tongs, hammers, and various other tools in the smithy flew up to attention. Back when this was still a game, all animated weapons could be expected to do were to follow simple, guard, follow, and attack commands. But could she set these up to automate forging?
