Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.

I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

Konpaku Youmu

Her small frame lifted and thrown by the force that suddenly erupted outwards, Youmu still managed to land on her feet, thrusting one hand downward to balance herself as she slid along the cobblestones.

She'd just been attacked.

There was only one response to this.

Youmu's right hand was placed on Roukanken's hilt. Smoothly, she drew the gleaming yokai-forged katana from its sheath, the folded steel glittering in the midday sunlight. The warning about the guards went completely unheeded, as the small girl straightened. Just as smoothly, Hakuroken was drawn from its sheath, and with both katana in hand she strode back towards the belligerent woman and the carriage. The half-phantom's blue gaze raised to lock on what she now considered to be her opponent.

This had nothing to do with Youmu's mission, but she could not and would not allow it to stand. It was simply how someone from Gensokyo would handle these things.

"I cannot deny that we may have obstructed your path," Youmu began, raising Roukanken to point directly towards the woman, "But regardless! Your insults, and your actions, and this attack cannot go unnoticed! On the honor of the Konpaku family, I will not simply remain idle after being attacked without cause!"

No matter how polite Youmu could be, being a resident of Gensokyo had quite colored her response to this kind of situation. It was now unlikely she would back down unless provided a very good argument for doing so. The unprovoked attack had not only been a literal challenge, but it had also been an attack on a number of things. The honor of Youmu's position as Yuyuko-sama's guardian and gardener, and the honor of her family. Even if it was impossible for the woman to know these that was the case, that did not stop Youmu from considering it to be so.

There was also the simple fact that the woman's behavior had made Youmu rather angry. A swift duel would certainly allow her to release this anger, especially since the half-phantom girl felt very confident in the sword techniques of the Konpaku.

"I, Konpaku Youmu, will defeat you!"

"Oh, um, that's great!" Akane said, trying to focus on the prospect of getting a tasty meal rather then any of the other nervous thoughts plaguing her mind at the moment. Certainly, she was quite hungry... ah, how had she ended up like this, though? Inviting an upperclassmen to lunch had just been such a spur of the moment thing, had it really been a good idea? This wasn't normally something she ever did... had becoming a magical girl filled her with some kind of strange sense of boldness? And yet, this seemed to be some utterly misplaced confidence given how nervous she'd become just sitting down.

Deep down, she began to want to slap herself in the face. Why had she thought inviting an upperclassmen she'd barely ever spoken to before for a meal was a good idea? It was like the most awkward possible date or something!

... Why did she have to have to think of that comparison?! Now it just felt even more awkward!

When Katsura-senpai pointed out that she didn't need to be nervous, well, that was just icing on the cake, really.

"A-ah, well, er," Akane blushed, trying to shunt the embarrassing date comparison out of her thoughts, "I guess it's just, um, this wasn't, ah, this isn't something I do a lot, really, um, it was really sudden so er... s-sorry if I'm being awkward or something..."

She trailed off.

You can do it, Akane-chan! I believe in you!

At least Melody had turned around from pouting to cheering her on... Though the fact that she needed cheering on just talking to someone new was a little bit of a depressing prospect for Akane.

Well, I'm in a difficult place now. Because I'm pretty sure Youmu, as a Touhou character, does not take randomly being attacked lying down.

But I also don't think having her dismantle the carriage is a good idea.
I feel like that's a reasonable fix.
I'll be getting a post up tomorrow.
"... The oni, the... the wolf, and... that shady guy. Now let me go through the portal," Ayumi stated, flatly. She didn't bother with names and she didn't care to explain herself. She didn't want a party in the first place. Her mind had already stubbornly locked onto doing this herself. Involving people from outside of her class, outside of her entire school, simply felt wrong to her. But she had to go through that portal in order to save her friend, and it seemed like the only way she'd be allowed through the portal is if she did that. It pissed her off, deep down. She wanted to go and save Satonaka without having to drag anyone else who wasn't involved with her into it. Besides... even if it was something like the gashadokuro...

The dark-haired girl's grip on Raigekimaru tightened, electrical currents playing across her hand as it did. At the moment, all she cared about was saving Satonaka Kotomi. She wasn't a strong girl. She got tired out just from a few moments of PE. Satonaka just wouldn't be able to deal with something as bad as that. Even if she was stronger, she didn't have any sort of abilities to use for self defense at all. She could get seriously hurt, or worse...

Ayumi couldn't let that happen.

"Can we go now, or what?"

The young girl was growing impatient.

Well, at least she'd make sure the shady guy was around strong yokai if he tried anything.

Accepted.
Natsuki Sumiko, Starblazer

Sumiko's smile broadened. She'd gotten the shy girl to introduce herself! Even if she still seemed pretty nervous, that was a step in the right direction! The purple-haired girl was just so adorable, too. She deserved to be smiling, and hopefully Sumiko could help her open up and smile! That was her ultimate goal, here. She was so shy and nervous, and it was kind of sad to see someone so cute look so lonely. Therefore, the best way to help her out was to become close friends.

"It's nice to meet you, Hana-san!" Sumiko cheerfully declared, "I hope we can get to know each other more and become good friends!"

Sasegawa Hikaru, the Stalwart Lightning Detective of Yamamura

In the face of that pout, Hikaru was as stonefaced as ever. It was regrettable that they couldn't spare escorts for every potential victim of the kidnappings, but there wasn't any way that they could possibly supply that many officers. The best option was to increase patrols, especially around areas that had the most density of kidnappings. At the moment, that was worryingly a rough ring around Yamamura High School. But from what she understood, it wasn't limited to this city. No, other departments across Japan were dealing with their own rash of disappearances. There had to be some sort of organized element here, but what was it? Was it some kind of strange cult? Some sort of terrorist organization?

Of course, this internal speculation was cut short when Umeda Maiko asked for a note to explain why she'd been held up. It only made sense, and there was no reason not to provide it. Taking a notepad from her pocket, Hikaru scrawled a swift note down.

Held up during investigation. Apologies.
Detective Sasegawa Hikaru

She quickly offered the note to the girl.

"If anything strange happens, be certain to report it, no matter what it is," Hikaru asserted.

Natsuki Sumiko, Starblazer

"Ooooh, this must be about the language of flowers, right?" Sumiko looked the book over. It must have been either brand new or very well-taken care of, as it didn't look like it had even been opened once before now. The language of flowers wasn't a subject the energetic girl was too familiar with. She knew some of the basics, like how cherry blossoms meant kindness and gentleness, clovers were obviously luck, and cactus... well, the meaning of cactus flowers was really embarrassing but she still knew about it! Regardless, it was pretty interesting. It seemed like it would be fun to talk about, too!

"I don't know too much about that sort of thing, but it seems really interesting!" the brunette cheerily continued, giving the shy girl a bright grin as she did. Sumiko hoped she wasn't scaring the girl or anything like that, but she really did think that she looked like she needed someone to talk to! She just hoped that she hadn't come on too strongly and intimidated her, but it looked like everything was going fine!

"My name is Natsuki Sumiko, what's yours?"
