Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.

I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

There is only one thing that can keep evil in check.

Magic. The power of magical girls, whose abilities allow them to purify darkness and destroy the congregations of dark thoughts and negative emotions that form in the night. These dark amalgamations are impossible to harm with conventional weaponry, but to the girls who have been granted the power of magic it is possible to destroy them with ease. And so the creation of magical girls, the process of granting these girls the power of magic, began hundreds and hundreds of years ago. But every hundred years, it was discovered that a massive buildup of negative emotions would occur. These would form an incredibly powerful beast, a massive black stain on the world that could cause untold devastation. Only through the combined efforts of hundreds of magical girls was it possible to defeat the beast, and some among their numbers even perished or were grievously injured by the terrible battle.

An alternate solution had to be found. To allow something like that to happen once more... it was unthinkable.

And so began the Hex Night. It was discovered that, while the regular usage of magic to defeat the ordinary buildups of darkness was not enough, an enormous outpouring of magic, many magical girls using their powers to their fullest, would break apart the giant amalgamation and cause it to manifest in smaller forms, as usual. The Hex Night, more accurately an event occurring for several weeks every twenty years, was created to push magical girls to their limits. An event in which they would use their abilities to their fullest, and the mass amounts of magic spent would prevent the creation of any terrible beasts ever again.

But the only way to push magical girls to such an extent was to pit them against one another.

For the Hex Night is a battle between magical girls, the prize being to wish for anything that the victor desires. Indeed, it can be called a battle royale, occurring once every twenty years in a different country.

This time, the Hex Night is to take place in the nation of Japan.

Who will claim the wish promised by victory in the Hex Night? A veteran magical girl? A new magical girl?

And is the Hex Night truly as it seems?

The abilities of magical girls come from a conceptual source of power. That is, each magical girl has their own Concept as a source of power. For example, a Magical Girl with the Concept of a fairytale as their source of power would have abilities based on that fairytale. Concepts can range wildly, from weapons to events to stories to nearly anything in history.

But this is not the end of the powers of a magical girl.

All magical girls wield some sort of item, be it a tool or a weapon or something else entirely. This item is their Archetype, something from stories or myths that grants them further powers, something related to their concept. A girl whose Concept is Cinderella could perhaps have the Pumpkin Carriage as her Archetype. However, when a girl first becomes a magical girl, they will not be aware of their Archetype. They must figure out what their Archetype's nature is on their own. This will unlock their most powerful abilities.

The Power of a magical girl's Concept and Archetype are influenced by a variety of factors. Age and fame are strong influences, but so to is the imagination inspired by them. This allows for more recent concepts, such as Wonderland, to be quite powerful in their own right.

The powers exhibited by magical girls are vast and broad. Some are straightforward, whereas some are more strange and difficult to use.

And all of them will be tested in the Hex Night of Magical Girls.

+~Rules of the Hex Night~+
Battle May Commence at Any Time.
However, these battles must be kept from the eyes of those who have not been gifted with magic.
All magical girls are granted a single glass orb that symbolizes their participation in the Hex Night. This glass orb is known as their Hex Symbol.
A Magical Girl is considered defeated when she is unable to continue fighting, or she has surrendered. Once a magical girl has been defeated, the victor is granted their Hex Symbol so they may destroy it.
The destruction of her Hex Symbol removes a magical girl from consideration as a potential victor.
A magical girl who has been defeated may continue to participate in the Hex Night as an assistant to another magical girl.
The killing of humans is strictly prohibited. Any violation of this rule will result in immediate expulsion from the Hex Night as well as the removal of all abilities as a magical girl.

Konpaku Youmu

It was a complex dance, in a way. Something that the silver-haired girl was used to performing. And yet, no matter how many times she had done the steps, she continued again and again. She was still in training. No matter how accomplished she became, she could always improve. she still hadn't reached Grandfather's level. To truly live up to her family name, she had to keep practicing.

Her katana cut the air, the misty form of her phantom half elegantly whirling through the air as the water fell around her. Roukanken's edge struck a single droplet and parted it. Than another. Than another.

Konpaku Youmu sheathed her blade as the water fell around her. Without pause, she drew Hakuroken. In a single motion, she cut three more droplets of water before they could hit the ground. The wakizashi was sheathed in an instant on her hip. Youmu straightened. The number of droplets had nearly doubled, her blades slicing them through so swiftly that she increased the amount. And yet this wasn't enough. No, if she wanted to reach Grandfather's level, she had to train harder. Placing one hand lightly on Roukanken's hilt, the small girl looked up. Her phantom half followed her gaze. The second bucket was hanging from a thin pole of metal, supported between two wooden struts. The wispy form of her phantom half shot forward and struck the bucket, flipping the contents and letting the water fall out.

First, to divide it into droplets. Youmu drew Roukanken and swung it upwards, the blade and rushing air parting the falling liquid. In a flash, she had sheathed it again, shutting her eyes.

Then...!

Youmu opened her eyes, and just barely stopped herself from drawing the blade when she realized her surroundings were no longer the gardens of Hakugyokurou. In fact, it was some place she had never seen. Stone streets, tall buildings of glass and steel... indeed, it was completely unlike the architecture of Gensokyo, the things that Youmu was used to. Was it the outside world? How had she suddenly entered the Outside World?!

"... I... what... is..."

She paused for a moment, then turned towards the large red tower with confusion. How had she come to the outside world...? After a moment, Youmu sent her phantom half high into the air, to scope out her surroundings better. It was the only thing she could think of doing when something so strange had happened so suddenly... and then, she noticed a man? With... he most certainly had a sword. After a moment, she began to cautiously approach him...

"Hello...?"

Abigail Williams

She'd been all ready to go travelling with her Master! It sounded like a lot of fun, getting to go some place she had never been before... A few other Servants were going, as well. She'd gotten to know so many of them since she was summoned... like Geronimo, though she was a little scared of him at first, had turned out to be very kind and sincere. Everyone had been so fun to talk to! She made friends with Jack and Nursery and Santa Lily... and she'd done her best to help out her Master, too. Even if fighting was kind of scary... she'd been getting more used to it. To be honest, there was part of her that wasn't sure if it was a good thing that she was getting used to it, but if her Master needed her help...

... And there was a few occasions, though, where fighting wasn't scary at all...

But now wasn't the time to think about that. No, now was the time to enjoy their trip! Happily, she reached up to grab her Master's hand-

That wasn't her Master's hand.

A shiver ran through Abigail Willaims's body, and she stepped away. The person she had suddenly latched onto was... a man from the East? Her Master was from the East too, so were many of her Servants, but she didn't recognize this person at all...

"That's... that's incredible!" he shouted, suddenly, much to her dismay as she stepped back, her blue eyes wide, "That's the perfect Abby-chan cosplay! It's like she just stepped out of my phone! Can I take a picture?!"

"P-picture...?" confused, and a little frightened of the stranger asking for her picture, Abigail stumbled back a little.

"Ahh, sorry, sorry," he apologized, waving his hand, "I got a bit too exci-"

Before he could say more, Abigail turned and ran. Where was her Master? Where were the others? She didn't see anyone she recognized at all... none of the other Servants, and certainly not Master... there was a girl outside of some shop looking at a cardboard cutout of... herself? That was strange and confusing... everything here was...

"M-Master?" she called, looking around in concern, "Jack? ... Nursery? Jeanne? I can't find any of you... M-Mister Cu? M-Miss Atalanta? Miss P-Pendragon?"

@PKMNB0Y
I have not really been able to make a proper map. ^^;
@Sho Minazuki: She's from a town on the Northwestern coast of Akitsushima.
@Destro1666: Oh shoot I forgot about this. ^^;

There's no real explanation for him using Akitsushiman(Japanese) weaponry and techniques.
"Trust is one thing," responded Sophie, folding her arms across her chest as she did, "Assuming you automatically know better than I do and that I should be treated as a subordinate is another. I'll listen to others, but as an equal, not as some sort of follower."

It seemed as if the elf didn't fully understand just why she had made her comments in the first place. Quite simply, while it wasn't as if she didn't believe in working together as a party, she certainly didn't believe in being treated as someone's squire. That was absolutely intolerable. Sophie was an adventurer who had made it to her current rank with her own efforts, though she had worked in parties before as well. She would never accept being treated as somehow inferior as a result, and she didn't need some arrogant moron thinking they could handle her just like that. No, it was absolutely never the sort of treatment that she could accept.

With that, Sophie glanced towards the stand. An Akitsushiman merchant...? Not exactly common around here... and how had her stand gotten set up so quickly? It wasn't there the last time she had looked outside.

"Ah, onii-san," began the girl behind the counter, brightly, smiling at the two who had first approached her, "I'll provide you with any goods you desire!"

She paused for a moment, nodding when she heard Kyoshiro's requests.

"Just a moment!"

With that, she disappeared around the back of the stand... and there was a strange sound like the ringing of a bell.

When she returned, the girl set down a plate of sake and rice balls. She disappeared around the back one more time, and quickly returned with a rather short Akitsushiman blade. This time, there was no bell-ringing sound.

"A wakizashi, forged in my hometown!" declared the girl, proudly.

Assassin

"Well, I think it would have to be meeting under the right circumstances, um..." Assassin trailed off for a moment. The only option she could think of was, maybe, scouting out one of the other Masters to confirm they really were a Master, then approaching them during the day so it wouldn't lead to a fight they weren't prepared for. Aside from that, well... she could only really see it ending poorly. Not in her defeat, of course. The girl samurai was confident in herself! But they weren't there to have a fight, they were there to find somewhere to stay. There was quite a large difference between those things. But if they approached during the day, it was unlikely that the other Master would like the chance of risking the discovery of the Holy Grail War by ordinary citizens of Redrock. "So... during the day, when-"

She paused for a moment. Her Master was calling out to anyone who might be eavesdropping... and just when it seemed as if there wouldn't be a response, suddenly a man seemed to emerge from no-where. It was instantly obvious, even before he introduced himself, that he was an enemy Servant. The fact that he had introduced his class made it at least somewhat obvious what they were up against. Assassin didn't like fighting before they had even found somewhere to stay.

But...

She was a Manslayer. And a manslayer was always ready to fight. To kill.

Assassin rose to her feet. Raising one hand, a flurry of lights that looked almost like the petals of a cherry blossom seemed to drift into the air as her katana materialized.

"Master, do not involve yourself," she said, simply, stepping forward, "I think it's time for me to show you my skills with a blade."

Placing both hands on the hilt of her sword, she drew the blade parallel to her head, sliding her feet into a ready stance.

"I will accept your challenge, Rider."

She paused for a moment. Then, wincing slightly, Assassin looked back over her shoulder towards her Master.

"Ah, er..." she trailed off for a moment, "Unless you want to do something else, Master?"

  • Name: Abigail Williams
  • Gender: Female
  • Appearance: "I'm a bad girl!" "A very bad girl."
  • Personality: A young and innocent girl who seems to be the polite and friendly sort. Abigail tends to assume the best of others in most cases, and often appears not to fully understand some of the implications of her actions. Still, she is a sweet and friendly girl most of the time, and also fairly religious, given she was born in Puritan Salem. She is quite affectionate to those she considers to be her friends, and seems to enjoy playing and doing most things that a girl her age should be enjoying. Abigail deeply enjoys sweet things, especially pancakes, and most people would consider her to be a totally normal girl at first glance. Even when using her abilities, she sometimes seems rather skittish about them(even if she occasionally shows pride towards accomplishing victory in a difficult fight). She also adamantly insists she is not a witch, no matter how unusual her capabilities may seem. Having spent plenty of time among magi, both her Master and Casters, however, has caused her to no longer view the concept of a witch with fear. Even if she will still insist that she is not one. She will sometimes state that her actions mean she is a bad girl, as well. However, she she fully exerts her powers, her demeanor seems to change. Her tone of voice becomes far more calm, and she develops a sadistic edge, especially in combat. She also no longer displays a skittish reaction to any of her capabilities, instead embracing them. Abigail will also develop an interest in things inappropriate for her age, such as trying alcoholic beverages. It is unlikely, however, that she will take on her Outer Form without being pushed to do so first. Even with the change in attitude, however, it is clear the same girl is beneath the more sadistic and malevolent demeanor, and she will still use the powers to protect her friends.
  • Brief History: A Servant who appeared during a singularity occuring in Salem, technically this Abigail and the Abigail who appeared there are the same and yet different. Regardless, she has been a happy member of Chaldea's ever-expanding roster of Servants for a considerable amount of time, now. However...
  • Universe of Origin: The Nasuverse, specifically the Fate/grand order iteration
  • Equipment: Her teddy bear, Mi-Go. It can, surprisingly, serve as a somewhat effective weapon due to her capabilities as a Servant and can move independently of her body when Abigail is in Outer Form.
  • Abilities: Abigail's nature is that of a Servant. As a result, without any form of supernatural enhancement it becomes impossible to cause damage to her. She is also much stronger and faster then a little girl should be. Abigail can also assume an incorporeal form, but she is unlikely to do that as it is more fun to remain physical. Her more unique abilities are significantly more esoteric, however. Abigail is a Foreigner-class Servant, defining an individual who has gained the powers of an outer god while retaining their sanity. However, due to her nature, she is capable of generating portals even without the influence of the evil extradimensional god known as Yog-Sothoth. Instead, it is through these portals that she uses the power granted by this contract writhing, strangely-shaped tentacles to assault the target. In spite of the fact that the nature of her abilities remains the same regardless of what form she has taken, in her regular incarnation these attacks appear to be golden light in the shape of tendrils and other strange creatures. In her outer form, she obtains a huge key that can be used as a sword, and the ability to summon even more strange creatures and unmasked tentacles, including swarms of exploding insects. In any form, she is capable of firing a large beam from her forehead, either from seemingly no-where or from a keyhole in her head in Outer Form. In Outer form, the beam is significantly more powerful. Abigail is also capable of transitioning between her ordinary form to her Outer Form and back, though it will take a great deal of emotional distress, anger or sadness, to cause her to utilize her Outer Form. In any form, she has the ability to erode the mental state of ordinary humans, but she restrains this capability due to being unwilling to harm innocent people.
    • Qliphoth Rhizome
The act of opening a gate via her link to Yog-Sothoth. Technically, it is a Noble Phantasm capable of assaulting the entire planet, but due to restrictions placed on it(possibly by Abigail herself) it is only capable of attacking a single target. When unleashed, the target is drawn beyond the gate, their mind and body assaulted by the presence of the outer god within a root of the Tree of Evil. While it is not impossible to survive this assault, it is an attack that can cause enormous damage to the target's mental and physical state and strip away and protections or enhancements they have placed upon themselves. In spite of its power, Abigail is reluctant to use something so devastating in nature. She would have to be pushed exceptionally far in order to release it.
