Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.

I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

Hmmm.
"I feel like calling her a coward was too mil-"

Hikari wasn't able to complete that sentence. Something hotter and brighter then she had ever seen before suddenly streaked past both girls, ripping through the night air with a sound like a freight train. Even though it just barely missed either girl, the blast was sufficient to knock the small brunette off her feet with a yelp of surprise, landing on her back.

When she managed to right herself, she realized just what had occurred. A beam had been fired next to the girls, one strong enough to tear through the concrete and asphalt and leave a glowing scar in the street, still sizzling, practically turned to glass.

When Hikari turned her head, her heart hammering, back towards Kagami, the purple-haired magical girl was still grinning, one hand placed on her cheek.

"You shouldn't mistake mercy for cowardice, junk," said the Magical Empress. Beside her there floated... a mirror? The very center was marked with a slowly-fading purple glow. Was that her Archetype...? "I was simply giving you a choice: To fail now, or later."

"You... you... what the hell were you thinking?!" snapped Hikari, shaking with a mixture of fear and rage. Neither herself or Tokiko were transformed, if that beam had been any closer, what... what would have happened?! "You... What the hell kind of magical girl are you!?"

"One who is quite in control of her abilities," replied Kagami, still grinning, "I'm no fool."

@Anza
"Oh? Is that what you believe?" asked the Magical Empress, cocking her head to one side as she spoke, "Very well. Believe what you will about me, it means nothing in the end. You'll still be crushed under my foot when I claim victory in the Hex Night."

That sharp grin never left her face, even as Hikari tried to just pass her up. But everything about her, that superior attitude, the fact she called herself 'Magical Empress', there wasn't a single thing that didn't piss Hikari off about her. Where did she get off calling other magical girls 'junk' anyway?! What kind of person would even do that? One of her hands had already clenched into a fist, even as she tried to pass up the purple-haired magical girl alongside Tokiko. This anger was nothing like the frustrating she'd felt about the Tokiko earlier, for that matter. Everything about Kagami was simply infuriating.

"It's probably wise that you don't fight with me immediately, of course," continued Kagami, even as they left, "You can have the illusion of potential victory to yourself, a little longer. But an illusion is merely a trick of the light, and as such there is no-one more suited to destroying it than I, junk."

Even through her anger, Hikari almost felt as if Kagami sounded ever-so-slightly disappointed. Had she been hoping for a fight...?

Indeed, the building came apart under Naoko's feet. While the horned magical girl didn't seem all that bothered, she did immediately lunge for the senseless Tsukimi and scoop her into her arms, before disappearing into the debris cloud below. Indeed, both of the enemy magical girls simply vanished from sight, impossible to see.

Indeed, it looked as if the move might have worked.

For a moment.

Suddenly, one chunk of debris came careening through the air, hurtling right towards Sonya!

@TheFake

Perhaps one of the girls would notice.

Or perhaps they wouldn't.

Either way, they were not alone.

Nearby, a figure clad in a fine black suit, their body androgynous enough to look neither male or female beneath it, was standing and watching them. Their face was obscured, by a detailed, unnervingly realistic mask in the form of the face of a white rabbit.

They had done little, aside from watch.

@LuckyBlackCat, @A Lowly Wretch: Just wanted to make it clear why I wasn't posting. ^^; Don't want to seem neglectful.
"..."

Perhaps she'd snapped a bit too hard? Normally it wasn't something that she'd think about, but normally people didn't cry... and nothing about this situation was particularly normal at all, was it? For a few moments, Megumi fidgeted, before taking a deep breath. She wasn't used to apologizing to people, either, but now this girl was shaking and possibly crying(it was hard to tell behind that mask) and this situation was way too intense to leave her like that.

"... L-look..." Megumi began, looking away as she did, clutching her staff tightly in both hands, "I'm sorry, it's just... er... I just... showed up here! It was weird hearing someone still roleplaying and all... i-it's not like I care or anything okay?! Just... d-do what you want..."

Still fidgeting, she kept looking away.

"... You're the first person I met since I showed up here, I don't think there's a plan..."

@TheMushroomLord
Kind of hoping some more people post between @Anza's last post and my next one, I don't want to make a long chain of our posts going back and fourth. ^^;
Konpaku Youmu

With the fight concluded, Youmu began to realize just how cold it was here. It had been quite warm in the Netherworld, and while her body temperature was lower then a pure human's due to her half-phantom nature that didn't mean that she was invulnerable to the cold. Especially given her training had involved repeatedly dumping water on herself and trying to cut the droplets. She wasn't in her driest state, to put it simply, so that amplified the cold. But... Yuyuko-sama was counting on her to quickly find a path home! So Youmu couldn't be defeated by something like being cold... even if the chill immediately got to her arms and legs.

The weather had taken a considerable turn for the worst, for that matter. It really was a blizzard, not simply a snowstorm like it had been before. Was the celestial somehow involved? This manipulation of weather... Could it have been that yuki-onna? Either seem possible, given the strangeness of this event.

More concerning, however, was the lack of any people. There should have been someone around here. Even if Youmu wasn't familiar with the location, this looked like it should have been some kind of reception hall. But there was no staff at all, even indoors.

"... There's no people..." she commented, looking around warily with one hand on Roukanken's hilt. She couldn't help but be concerned about what could have happened to them.

Responding to this concern, her phantom half suddenly returned to her side. Given it was part of her, no words were necessary: It immediately set off deeper into the building to check for any signs of people ahead.

@PKMNB0Y
"Oh, please," responded the purple-haired magical girl, "It's not as if I had to try to listen in on your conversation. You were being less and less subtle as you went, and this area is hardly crowded. It was easy to pick up on your conversation."

Hikari didn't like that sharp grin. She didn't like any of this. Where did that girl come from? She seemed so familiar, too... it bothered her. All of this bothered her. But that wasn't all. Something about this magical girl... she just radiated danger. As if every instinct in Hikari's body was fighting to try and make her run. But Hikari wasn't that kind of person. She wasn't an idiot that panicked just because she met someone who seemed like they might be strong. She wasn't just going to run off!

"Who are you!?" she snapped.

"Oh? A trash-tier magical girl like you should really be more polite," responded the purple-haired girl, cocking her head to the side as she did, "Who knows what could happen to you if you don't learn to hold your tongue... but of course, there's not a single magical girl who can be called anything but junk when compared to me."

Hikari narrowed her eyes. She hated everything about the girl's attitude.

"I am Magical Empress Kagami, and the both of you have no hope. Be it now, or later, even if you defeat every other opponent you face, you will never, ever defeat me."

Caster

"Ah..."

There it was, in ink. Of course, Skuld had received plenty of knowledge about the modern world! It was part of being summoned as a Servant, after all. But this... this was certainly some information she had not been privy to. How could such a thing have happened?! Her, a master of the art of seduction, being unaware of something relating to the modern romantic behavior?! Ah, that girl looked so flustered on the page, having a hand pet her hair... To be honest, the more that the Caster-class Servant looked at it, the more appealing it became.

That settled it. Skuld would settle for nothing less then having her head patted after every single good performance in combat. Which, of course, meant every single performance she made in combat, as the Elven Queen was invariably going to meet success in her endeavors. Unless there were valkyries involved again but she was hardly about to think of such matters.

"Of... of course I knew that!" she said, after the final headpat, placing her hands on her hips, "I was simply granting you a test in order to gauge your knowledge of romance, which you have passed with flying colors~"

Of course, she took the book. What other knowledge had been hidden from her?!

@KoL
So shades were the sort of... standard bad guys in your average magical girl series? Represented negative thoughts or emotions, had to be defeated by magic, that sort of thing. It was sort of what Hikari had expected, given magical girls existed in the first place. There had to be something for them to fight, and so shades were that thing. Hikari couldn't help but wonder if shades were the youkai of old myths... or if those were something separate entirely. Or if it was some combination of both? It was hard to say, given that magical girls were real... well, what else was true in that case?

As for Concepts and Archetypes, well... That explained a lot. So they were things that captured the minds of humanity? Real or imaginary? That did make sense as the source of power for magical girls... for now, any lingering irritation she had towards Tokiko was mostly buried.

"... If my Concept is a general idea of my powers..." Hikari looked thoughtful for a moment as she considered what she knew. Her outfit was all bright colors and fire, and she was certain that there was a firework fired from the back of her hammer. The front of the hammer had looked something like a bell... and if her concept was Fireworks, why would she have a hammer?

"... Could something like 'Festivals' be a concept?" Hikari asked.

"I suppose it could."

That wasn't Tokiko!

Eyes widening, realizing that someone else was there, Hikari immediately turned towards the source of the voice. She was greeted with a figure that was unmistakably a magical girl... and one who was somehow familiar.

She had dark purple hair, pale skin, and eyes that matched her hair. Her outfit, flowing robes, was purple as well. On her face was a sharp, almost predatory grin.

"Greetings, inferior magical girls," she continued, "My my, how bold. On a stroll even though the Hex Night has already begun... well, it's not as if you had any chance of victory anyway."
