Current I think watching fight scenes can help in general terms with writing combat, since it can give you an idea of flow and choreography.

At least if you're writing something you know, with knights.

I mean, depends on what you're writing, and the tone and theme of what you're writing. Trained armored knights were legitimately monstrous on the battlefield, so looking up how they fought helps.

As much as there's a lot of reasons twitter sucks, I genuinely don't want to see it die for the sake of all the artists who now rely on it. Hoping the shithead stops trying to directly administrate.

  • Name: Yuriko T. Louvyngyr
  • Age: 23
  • Appearance: "This rose? For you."
  • Personality: Yuriko is extremely self-confident, lacking in any self-doubt when it comes to most matters. This is self-assuredness she feels is backed up quite nicely by her own capabilities as a magus. She's not so foolish as to say she could fight many Servants in hand to hand, but Casters and some Assassins, perhaps... Regardless, Yuriko's self-certainty and swagger extends to much of what she does. The fact she is the type to fly under her own rules and do what she wishes is also quite apparent in her actions, which is doubtless why her family as distanced itself from her due to her flagrant disregard for many of the guidelines they attempted to set for her future. Shamelessly and uncontrollably flirtatious, Yuriko's tastes lay exclusively in her own sex but beyond that are quite varied: Any pretty girl, human or Servant, is liable to get targeted and showered with charming lines and shows of affection. The fact she refused to stop skirtchasing without pause is one of the most notable reasons her family eventually distanced themselves from her at least publicly. There is a handful of matters Yuriko struggles with: She is easily embarrassed by being made to wear feminine clothing, feeling much more confident in suits and other similar outfits. She is also somewhat uncertain of how to handle children. She likes them, and wants to treat children well, but she is liable to go overboard or not fully consider potential consequences. This has become especially important after she used the catalyst provided to her by the Association...
  • Abilities: To say Yuriko can be considered anything less then a stellar mage would be a falsehood. Born of the combination of two lineages of magi possessed of considerable talent, Yuriko possesses not only a high amount of magic circuits but high quality ones as well. Perhaps this is one of the reasons she still receives some level of support from her family. Possessing a relatively rare dual affinity for Fire and Water, Yuriko has a strong capability in magecraft relating to destruction as well as cyclical magecraft. Causing objects to ignite, or even applying fire to her own body in some cases, is a staple of her more offensive spells. She can also compose objects out of fluid, carrying a vial of specially-treated liquid specially for this purpose. This liquid can become ignited without burning away, perfect for usage with her magecraft. Finally, Yuriko utilizes an array of jewelry on her body in the form of piercings. These are her earrings, but also other piercings across her body. These pieces of jewelry are arranged to symbolize the constellation Hercules. Indeed, with this arrangement, her body comes an earthly representation of the constellation. As long as her jewelry remains in place, Yuriko's body possesses the trait of self-reinforcement. This is an automatic response to outside stimuli, strengthening her body with an infusion of mana to amplify her blows or dull attack against herself. However, if a single piercing is removed the representation collapses and Yuriko loses this ability.
  • History: Years ago, the mage families Louvyngyr and Sumikawa came together to pool their talented bloodlines into a single heir. That heir was born in the form of Yuriko, a child who exhibited remarkable aptitude as a mage and took to her training with gusto as soon as it began. Indeed, a more satisfying outcome could not have come to pass, at least for the first few years. During this time, it seemed as if Yuriko desired nothing less then to make her parents happy and embrace magecraft utterly. And indeed, it can be said her embrace of magecraft has never ceased. However, as the girl grew older her desires changed. She began to reject the guidelines proposed by her parents, and entirely reject the idea of marriage to another talented male magus growing up in another family. Instead, though she eagerly pursued her studies, Yuriko began what can only be described as skirtchasing. She gained a considerable reputation in middle school and highschool, both for her girl-hungry ways and her general disregard for any kind of rule she didn't like. In spite of this, she excelled in both public education and her studies as a magus, and her arrival at the Clock Tower was unquestioned even as her family struggled to deal with her antics. It was here that her habits lead to a rather dramatic and deadly incident. It ended with one girl injured, and the male heir to the Vundervagon family dead. Immediately taking full blame for what had occurred, it was only due to the intervention of her family that Yuriko was not killed by the vengeful Vundervagon. Instead, her path was changed to that of an Enforcer for the association. She worked in this position for several years, until recently she was deployed to Fusang and provided with the summoning catalyst of a legendary Serial Killer from London for the purpose of investigating several unusual occurrences on the island. One of these is the rumored presence of none other than a True Ancestor... In recent days, she has struggled somewhat to care for her remarkably young and childish Servant as well as carry out her intended duties(and all the flirting), but she is doing her best and genuinely cares for her Servant's well-being.

@LukasVolkov: The skill itself looks much better, but I'll admit I'm kind of confused by "Noble Phantasm skill" and saying her preferred class is Caster. ^^; Like I'm mostly just not seeing anything that would qualify her as a Caster as opposed to Saber/Assassin?

It's not like a direct issue with your bio I'm just kind of confused.
@LukasVolkov: Age isn't the only influencing factor, but you were approaching this from the wrong way. The older Sabers by and large have both power and skill, which is why so many of them are monstrously strong Servants and why Arturia is regarded as the best among them. Their skills are also honed for combat and not sport in many cases, which is a big factor.

This was important because it does really influence the setup you have in skills. It's not necessarily likely to come up, and like... I really don't want to give the impression that I'm complaining about someone being able to beat Arturia. I'm not. But I don't think someone like La Maupin would be able to do so in a straight fight based on the lore in the setting. That being said, I still think the idea of such a fight would be interesting but I feel like it's important to note the weaker, more modern combatant would pretty much be on the run the whole time.

For outliers in terms of much more recent Servants being able to take older ones in a straight fight, Okita would be someone to look at. She's weak, but her ability to nearly teleport and surpass material objects and causality to break things, as well as the sheer inhuman level of her skill, is a big factor. She'd still be on the disadvantaged side though. Tesla is another example, though in his case it's a lot more specific who he can take on.

That's what we were trying to get across.

Now as for your bio...

I just think it's a little poorly-defined in terms of what a "C-rank Noble phantasm strike" actually means? And a combat analysis is still pretty damn strong since it lets you figure out how to fight someone very very quickly. While we've said a lot about older Sabers vs younger Sabers being a bad matchup, knowing how someone fights is pretty helpful in making sure you don't die.
Sophie's hands tightened into fits.

She'd killed monsters and bandits before. The violence was to be expected. But this...

This was like a butcher's abattoir. The remains of people were piled up, whatever the orcs didn't want had been left behind. There was very little to be said at this point, at the sight of something so grotesque, so awful.

The small girl's eyes narrowed.

"We're killing all of them," she said, simply, "Not a single orc is going to live. Not one is going to escape. We're slaughtering every single last one of them. They're going to live to regret this and no longer.

This was a vow she took in her heart as well. Sophie wouldn't allow the people who died here to go without vengeance. No, she would indeed serve as the instrument of their vengeance. It was what required of her, both in their memory and due to her role as an adventurer.

She'd bring back every orc in the raiding party's head if she had the chance. She wouldn't tolerate a single one managing to escape.

The bastards were going to die.

Saber - Arturia Pendragon

"Ah-"

Arturia was uncertain of how to handle this. Her Master had insisted she was beautiful, but how could that be the case? She was... terribly unfeminine, wasn't she? And more than that, she was a knight. Beauty was hardly a chief concern of hers... and yet... Her Master had already taken her by the hand and pulled her into the shop.

It wasn't the first time she'd had clothing purchased for her, but at the same time this experience was somewhat different.

Though many of Arturia's concerns were briefly dispelled when she saw the lion on the first outfit. It was quite lovely, a proud beast that displayed quiet nobility even in this simplified artstyle!

Though being made to try it on and step out to show it off was more then a little awkward... once in privacy, the King of Knights dispelled her armor and dress and put the shirt and skirt on. It fit quite well, at the very least, and wasn't at all difficult to move in. After a brief pause, Arturia stepped out only mildly red due to the circumstances. It wasn't very becoming of a knight, but it was difficult not to feel somewhat awkward. After a few moments, however, she swiftly grew more comfortable. It was hardly an unfamiliar outfit, after all, it was not dissimilar to something she had worn once before, even if it was lighter and had a shorter skirt.

"... This outfit is easy to move in, and the noble beast upon its breast is the image of fierce honor," the petite blonde smiled slightly to herself with a nod. If all the other outfits were similar to this, then there would be no need for concern!

The next outfit was another item she was even more familiar with: A black suit, dress shirt, and matching pants. It was, in fact, not too dissimilar to what she had worn once before, moreso then the first outfit. As she stood in front of her Master, adjusting the gloves that had come with the outfit, she noticed Ritsuko had grown rather red and seemed to be breathing somewhat heavier.

"Master?"

The next outfit was powder blue, pink, and came with a bonnet and an amount of frills that the Saber-class Servant had never seen on any outfit previously.

"Why... why do I l-look like a cake?" Arturia couldn't help but blush as she attempted to stand still in the extremely poofy dress. It was unlike anything she had ever worn before, and did not seem at all conducive to swift movement or anything combat-related whatsoever. Simply wearing it felt incredibly embarrassing!

Nothing that came after was so embarrassing as that however. Shorts, skirts, shirts, jackets, there were a few different items selected for purchase by the end.

"You did not need to buy so many, Master," Arturia said. Both of them had ended up losing track of the time... "Regardless, as they were purchased for me I will carry those bags."

@LukasVolkov: Okay, what I'm trying to get at is um...

Like, do you mean she could take Arturia in a straight fight without her using Excalibur's true name, or is it more her doing her best to not die and get away?

I kind of hate to use my own character as an example because it feels like I'm taking an issue with the idea of someone being able to fight her, which I'm not. But it's more the disparity in age as Servants(which is a big deal), legendary status, that kind of thing. Given Julie's young age in comparison to Arturia's myth and lack of like, say, really insane reality-bending techniques, it's unlikely she'd be able to keep a straight fight up with a much more legendary figure for very long.

Again like, I'm not saying it's impossible for a younger Servant to fight an older one, but in a straight fight it's a lot harder so I'm trying to get a sense of what you're going for.
@LukasVolkov: Can I have some specific Saber and Lancer examples? I'd like to know exactly what you're going for.
@LukasVolkov: How much of an equalizer do you think that should be? Like, which Servants do you think it'd make her a big danger to?
@LukasVolkov: Hmm, I'll need to discuss this with the main a bit before coming to a full decision, when it comes to the skill.
Mihama Nanako

It was at that moment that her thoughts were interrupted by Meltryllis's rather elegant arrival through the window. Given how in and out things had been for her due to the painkillers, Nanako hadn't... really been able to really look at her Servant too well again... But seeing her okay, able to leap through the window like that. It had been the right thing to do. Even if she knew Melt thought it was foolish.

But the pain had been nothing at all, not after the result of her messing up. Regardless, though... she knew. She understood now what she had to do. Even in the still slightly-foggy state, Nanako knew.

"Eh-heheh, it's gotten a lot better," Nanako replied, "Some of the Casters they have working in medicine are incredible, but I think they decided not to rush it..."

She winced slightly when she raised her arm, but the pain was nearly nonexistent. Apparently, the bolt having gone through her body so cleanly was a good thing.
