No one pays with cash anymore

I pay in cash all the time, sometimes in both cash AND debit/credit. And sometimes I have a bunch of change I need to get rid of, so I bring in like 10 dollars worth of dimes and quarters with a couple stray nickels and pennies.

I'm a rebel. I'm stickin' it to the man.

Asshole gas station attendants. Sure, you hate your job but shit man, cheer up. You have the simplest job ever, put stuff on a shelf and ask if it'll be unleaded. No one pays with cash anymore so you don't even have to handle money. Hell, most have card readers at the pump so you don't even get half the internal business as before.. And yet attendants can be sheer buttholes to their customers.

I mean damn, if you hate it... Just quit?

/endrant.

If you quit you don't get paid. They ain't there for fun.

That all being said, I've done jobs like that and absolutely hated it the entire time. What I can say is that there are other people out there making them hate it. I would venture to say most of the cheerful ones you've talked to are just really good at their customer service game and hate you even more than the surly ones (makes me think back to working in a booth where sound basically didn't communicate between inside and out unless you came close to the speaking hole, so everyone else in the booth was making merciless comments about a customer while they were talking to the employee stuck with them).

But the original point, yeh, it isn't the average person paying with a card and getting out that makes them hate their job. It's the people who come in and pay in loose pocket change, or the people who find it appropriate to stand there and BS for forty five minutes. It's the woman who shat the entire bathroom at once, the kids who show up with no intent to buy anything and require you to watch them so they don't pocket anything, and the homeless guy with a bowie knife on his hip who falls asleep in a stall in the men's bathroom. My favorite to this day that I ever got was a woman who's method of shopping was to bring a bunch of shit to the counter, toss a random bunch of money at me, and ask if she had enough to buy all the shit. If I said no, she wouldn't take a few things off, oh no. She would leave all that shit behind and ask me to put it back, then she would go get a whole other batch of shit and ask me if she could pay for the new stuff. You also get people too drunk to be trusted, methheads peddling obviously counterfeit cash, and situations where a lazy parent sent their kids to do their shopping and thinks it is appropriate to phone in a credit car number. And all of that, that is just the shit I had to deal with at one time or another. And I was never in a position quite as precarious as a gas station attendant.

So when you see a surly gas-station man, have pity. There but for fortune go you or I.

You have some good points but there's no excuse to treat the ones who aren't drunk, aren't high, or lazy parents, like garbage.

Since I'm new, I'm almost too nervous to rant in case I make enemies before even having my first friend here. Besides, I'm still too fresh to warrant whining about something that hasn't festered for ages yet.

But dang it if I'm not upset.

It baffles me that some folks here would message me, or reply to my messages, showing interest that seemed genuinely ... genuine. (Snort. At the redundancy I mean.)

We set up a loose plot, I did research on my tablet, and we both seemed ready, then the replies stopped. I'm okay for waiting, but it eats me up when I see them posting literally everywhere from statuses to threads, and I haven't even gotten another reply.

I mostly feel grumpy that I let my mood be influenced by such petty stimuli though. My sanguine self insists not to push in case they are busy preparing for other roleplays, or they happened to hop on for a bit enough to reply only here and there.

And then my insecurity rears its ugly devil-horned head and cackles about my inadequate appeal as a roleplayer, writer, and- and- my logical self feels pathetic for being sad, then everything just went down a la Titanic, with the iconic BGM no less.

By the end of the day, I'm still too wussy to prompt or nudge them, yet I save a slot for them in case I end up being overwhelmed later on. (Facepalm.)

I'll probably feel stupid for this post in a foreseeable future (give or take a few minutes after 'Post Reply') but voicing this sludge in my mind, I hope I find at least someone who resonates.

@Pair of Hearts

Hey Heart,

I completely understand where you are coming from. I've had the same thing happen to me a few times and no matter how much you try to NOT feel irritated, disappointed, etc. about it, it just gets under your skin.

Now, I totally get if someone can't reply 'cause they are too busy (happens to everyone) or can only reply to a few RPs. But don't you think they could say something first?! You know, something polite and simple like 'I'm really busy right now, so sorry, but I can't reply for a few days'. How hard would that be?

I'm also new to the site, and am not fond of making enemies, but when I read your post I couldn't help but get a bit upset myself. And anyways... I haven't ranted in a long time, so I guess a little one was overdue.

Oh, and I PMed you in reply to your 1x1 RP partner request, by the way. :)

So this something I have come across a few times, both here and in chat, but it's people with English as a non primary language. I can understand how it's difficult to learn a new language and communicate with the non native tongue, so this is me saying well done for attempting your best in order to learn a second language... however I don't like being told that I am aggressive in the way I speak as an Australian when my own accent may come through in text.

Terrible example to get the point:
Person: "I heard Pluto is being dropped from the list of planets"
Me: "oh that's bloody stupid"
Person: "no need to be so agressive about it"

For us as Australians 'bloody' is as regular as many other swear words. We can make a sentence with nothing but swear words, and if we wanted we will say words like ratshit, rooted, cock-up and pig's arse. To us, these aren't swear words! This is normal speak.

I just wish that when some non English people talk to an English speaker, they understand that there are many different varieties and we don't all use the same mannerisms.

I'm not a native English speaker...

But I do make it a point to add some glorious swear words to my pathetic language dictionary.

Then use them in a way that it's funny than rude. Well, because I'm still learning.

And always will be.

(Slang is the hardest part in any languages I've mastered so far.)

Well put it this way, I'm not surprised at English being your adopted language, but I've never really thought anything of it since your grammar and spelling sometimes seems better than my own. :)

Shower me with more praises!

Because it means all the sweat and blood I've put in to get from zero to my current level now have truly paid off.

(At the same time I'm also starting to get rather shameless lol.)

Jokes aside, since I'm a good example of a non-native who works very hard to improve my Engrish...

No excuses for those non-English speakers yo. Yes you may not be good now, but you need to persevere and keep striving to be even better, not expecting everyone to keep giving way to your terribad level after so many interaction chances.

@Weird TalesIt seems that spambots have gotten a foothold on RPGuild. Mahz and the Mods are currently working on a fix as we speak. It seems that someone is trying to replicate another Guildfall although most of us are confident that we will be able to weather the storm.

I thought the Guildfall had to do with a change in servers? Did it happen because of trolls?

@Weird TalesFrom what I know of the subject, the original Guildfall was brought on by a mass spam attack which had invaded the hosting site the original RPGuild forum was based from. Thus Mahz created his own site with a unique code in hopes that it would stave off the spambots as they would have to crack the code from scratch.

The first Guildfall is the most well known and the one that cause the server shift. There was a second one that happened when the new site (this one) was first released, but was shut down eventually through means/reason I do not know.

This newest spambot invasion has been dubbed the "third Guidfall" (or as I like to call it "Third Impact" or "Ides of April" since it just sounds cooler ) and there's been a whole lot of rushing around in an attempt to end it and its presumably bigger in terms of response than the previous ones with the user made group "Bot Killer Squad" attempting to help the staff. Of course there's also me running around with my Church/Cult of Mahz sort of thing for shits and giggles.

To be quite honest, there's less actual panic as there is "RP'd" panic if you will amongst most people; personally I'm having a good bit of fun due to this and preaching around the Lord Admin and his Mod Saints ^^

As a side note, I believe that the person behind it is changing the spambots coding as there has already been one hotfix that was overcome and rumors persist of "undead spambots" that have been banned but have unbanned themselves and continued posting. It might also explain the "waves" they come in as there are times where they come in slowly, other times hundreds per minute and sometimes hours before the spamming picks up again.

Really close to fucking exploding when people cop out at the first hint of OOC disagreement, especially after the conflict had been settled. Where's the tension? Where's the animosity? Why the fuck are you copping out AFTER everything's settled and calmed down? WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN US?!

Oh, and when people inject themselves too far into their characters and when their characters are getting into a rough spot, they perceive that as a personal attack. IT'S YOUR CHARACTER, NOT YOU. THANKS FOR DROPPING OUT AND PULLING THE RP TO A HALT WHEN THE ENTIRE PLOT IS CONTINGENT ON YOUR CHARACTER'S REACTION. FUCK YOU VERY MUCH. Very. FUCKING. MUCH.

Oh, and don't get me started with the smol pupper children that suddenly drop the RP without a fucking word as to why, even when they're active on other threads. Literally PM'd this girl multiple times at least once a month, and another player had to apologize for her. Thank you, that's really nice of you. But she dropped the entire thing that was going oh-so well because she felt uncomfortable that players could depend on her and didn't mind waiting on her ass?

WHAT. THE. FFFFFFFFFFF. THERE'S NOTHING TO FEEL GUILTY ABOUT. NOTHING.

This. This so much.

I just hate when people act like tiny babies over any disagreements - like one little spat between players is equal to a toxic community. Like, seriously, if you're that sensitive to conflict then you need to get off the internet tbh. lol

People who roleplay more than 5-6 characters piss me off a little, for some really odd reason. I don't know what it is, but when someone makes that many characters, it just . . .

I really don't know what the problem is, but it just annoys me. And the person might be completely nice, friendly, etc. But it's just a pet peeve of mine. I feel like, in order to properly roleplay and enjoy oneself, playing 1-3 is prime (even three is too much for my taste).

I know I'm going to be shit on because there's quite the number of people who do this . . .

Nah, I don't hate people who do that, really.

Actually, if you've roleplayed 9-10 characters simultaneously in one roleplay thread . . .

That might be crossing the line, even for me.

Since the first version of the thread.

People who roleplay more than 5-6 characters piss me off a little, for some really odd reason. I don't know what it is, but when someone makes that many characters, it just . . .

If there is no character limitation and I can keep consistently (and actively) coming up with new ideas I’m going to do it. I’m not going to let anyone curb my dedication and interest because they have apprehension towards it. If they don’t like it, don’t RP with me. End of story.

Oh, and don't get me started with the smol pupper children that suddenly drop the RP without a fucking word as to why, even when they're active on other threads.

How about people who expect you to remind them to post and are so dependent on complacency that they have to be mentioned. No dude, I’m not going to tell you to post— it’s your responsibility to have that much dedication and courtesy towards your fellow players to read and post on your own time. Don’t be lazy.
