Written language?
Far too soon man, far far far too soon.
I'm not Kho to talk about rules or anything, but it would help me a lot if you didn't do that, considering my next action would be making refined oral Languages on the first place o_o

Maybe just don't consider it "writen" yet, just proto-writen since knowing names doesn't mean a whole lenguage was created....

Maybe? I'll let Kho decide on this one cause if I have to chance that, a big part of my post has to chance.

Okay, either way, its not a full fledged language yet right? For example, do they have names for each one of the colours on the aurora above or the different starts in the sky? Your post gave me the impression of a holy script that had yet to be learned fully. Furthermore, we can always play with the time anyway, or I will just change my overall idea or do it for everyone else.

It's by far not a fully fledged language. The Pronobii are a very objective orientated race. So they only developed words related to combat. And to praising Reathos with their little prayer. Things like color are forms of vain art, which the Pronobii see no use of. They also learned the names, simply because that is the main source of the glyphs. Finally they have words for 'to kill', 'to fight', 'to harm','to die', 'to battle', 'to strike', 'will', honour'. Nothing beyond the realm of fighting. And they will most likely not continue beyond those kind of words.

...question; how are the Pronobi already this advanced if they don't have something as simple as fire. Like, to make something grand, like a temple, I imagine you'd need tools, architecture, masonry, rope... a few pretty more significant technologies. So, ignoring a written language.... how are they so far ahead when no god has bothered to teach them the basics?

They make everything through cryomancy? Though granted the arena thingie might be a little hard to pull off. Concidering ice ain't that hard to break rocks. But they are made of ice, so why fire? They literally shape the ice around them into the shapes they want. Obviously, it takes a little while to refine it all. Don't think those temples and dwellings are anything fancy. The statues are crude (might detail that better). The 'temple' ain't that big either.

I'm starting to see some people disliking the great (maybe too great?) advances of my people. If Kho decides that they grow too fast then I'll rewrite the post. (FYI this is literally the end of them growing for 2 turns are Reathos will let the first incarnation of Nimeuh die and doing some other stuff. The Pronobii are an unnatural race so they don't develop on their own.)

Nah, I'm coolio with the pronobii, I just felt at first that having a functional language would be OP but now I see its very limited in use. Still, you might want to check with Kho

@Legion02 Hmm, I'd forgotten that Reathos dabbled in True Names also - because I mention them in my upcoming post. Just wondering, what do True Names do in their Reathos-version?

Regarding the constructions, I can accept that their ice magic and the cold of the south pole suffice them in that regard. I can accept that, since they are created for war, they advance faster in combat technique et al.

I can accept the existence of the glyphs and the fact that the Pronobii have a strange, divine spoken language, and I can accept that they can see True Names. I would say make it so that they cannot read or write it yet, though. Let that be something that develops a bit later. Keep the glyphs and the language as it is, but take out their ability to read and write for the moment. It's just slightly too quick for my liking - things like numbers, I can accept in some written form, but words and written language not yet.

@Antarctic Termite In my recent post about languages I left the sculptors out (meaning they still speak the root language of the gods, thus can understand all languages) in case you decide to go with the wanderer race thing.

So, I take it Illunabar sorta plans to be Galbar's language-creator?

I think everyone can do that, especially you, but yeah, I'm definitely going to play a lot with the language variation in future tales post.

For now however all that is set up is that Mortals learn language trough society instead of passive godly influence. (All those years studying Chomsky paid off in the oddest way)

Coolio. I mainly ask because Vulamera is, at some point, probably going to teach some random race the ultimate, most precise language (in her opinion) that mortals could understand

I wonder if a (Language) portfolio would belong in Beauty, Mind, or Order?

Plot-twist: Beauty, Mind and Order are actually portfolios of languages

But I think both Language (and numbers/mathematics) are one of those ports that feel odd to claim whole in a single bite (at least in my view) I myself will probably be taking stuff like Narrative, Poetry and etc (Was also going for geometry in Math's case, but there are other goddesses who deserve it more than Illy)

But on this case in specific.

Beauty (Words, Poetry, Idioms) Mind (Dialect/Language, Communication?) Order (Grammar)

And then there is the fact that there will be probably a Culture domain going up one way or another.

Huh. I like that!

Although, I would say that (Dialect) fits better into Beauty, but (Language) as a whole is definitely in Mind. Order could have (Patterns), which is highly related to all languages.

Edit:

although by now it had grown to a legend of a great and benevolent spirit who they now worshipped.

Yeah those benevolent fire elementals like Char were probably responsible for this atrocity.
