Baraian Paladice

Time: Late afternoon
Location: Roshmi Grand Ball

The night at the rooftop with Kuroi had passed without incident, and early the morning after Baraian set off to Ra Monde. With or without Kuroi. He had to find a healer and also find Regulus to berate for his blunt actions, though in private and not openly. As morale of the Golden Death were more important than punishing a member who put them all in danger by stepping in to aid Ilan.

Though soon the dark elf realized there was no time, he had to first have his wounds tended to and later arrange for that upcoming grand ball. The elf had spent what felt like an eternity in the healing section of Ra Monde, the fairy healer had managed to close his wound and easen the stinging pain. The dark elf was determined to not lie idly by however to recover completely, he knew he had to be at that ball to support his fellow members but also the possibility of a coup in the place by other cells which he were unaware of.

Baraian knew that all did not know of Ra Monde, nor of Golden Death. Especially if they were human and newly arrived to Avalia. He knew that the ball would be a very dangerous place, as it would have the higher ups in Aklenroth's kingdom present. Demons. Dark elves. Orcs and all manner of others who had been in search of fortune at the expense of the realm. Baraian had gotten aid in dressing in a fully brown coat with some soft peach coloured shirt under it, a full faced golden skull mask on his face. He had left his weapons behind.

It didn't take long for him to find himself before the entrance to the place where the grand ball would be held. His eyes wandered up to the towering building, which implied just how small and insignificant a person truly were in such a place. Despite it all he knew he had to play his part, he had waited for too long to stop now. The wheel was already in motion, there was no way to stop it now.He made his way up the long stairs and towards the gatekeepers who allowed him passage inside of the grand hall. People had been starting to gather up.

His steps were graceful looking, although he still felt weak from his injury, his arm shaking in a shivering manner.

'So this is the grand ball? All these masks and wealthy people, who strive to reach even higher in their endless pursuit for something out of reach.'

The dark elf came to think about the order... Golden Death. What it truly meant to him. He could feel the hatred starting to fill him up, like a whirlpool sucking a ship into it. It wouldn't be long now until the beginning of the end. End to the tyrant and everything...

He wanted to let out a chuckle, no even a cruel laugh. Soon his dream would finally come true… The dark elf passed by the disguised Umber, the very form of the elf beaming with sheer hate.

Terneus Andros

Time: Late afternoon
Location: Grand ball

It was with angry but nontheless noble steps that the governor began to make his way up the stairs, there was something about walking up and down stairs that he found pleasant. Walking up them made him feel like he ascended even further into godhood and graces, yet descending down stairs would be like a god showing themselves before the common filthy peasants.

Both of these would certainly make the very sight of him seem divine. Terneus was clad in white silk garments and green details and puffy arms, his face fully covered by a stunningly beautiful and old elven mask. Likely taken as a spoil from the war or from a rival nobles treasury. The governor couldn't quite remember all the minor details about all those who tried to stop his rightious ascension. He held his head high as he finally came to the top of the stairs, his second in command Feldrin was right behind him clad in fully black coat and just looking plain in comparison. This was not an issue to Terneus, as all eyes were meant to be upon his regal attire and grandeur. Even if his face had been scarred...

There was not a moment passing in which the elf didn't think of his face, how fair it had looked for all those hundred of years, during all his hardships and struggles... and had now been defiled by some beast! The elf bit his teeth together and tightened his fists as he passed by the dark elven guards, as if they were not even worth to look at. They were after all filthy outcasts and lesser creatures compared to him.

'Behold all who dwell in Avalia, behond my radiance...' He thought as he took a deep breath, letting the size of the ballroom sink in. This hall was truly grand and sufficient to house someone of his stature. Even if it was in such a filthy beast-ridden city overall. He began to ponder if there was a way to clean it up and misplace the populace. Perhaps fill it with elves instead? The governor looked to Feldrin and coughed into his hand softly, reminding the commander of something he had been told of before.

"Introducing his elegance, Lord Terneus Andros, governor of the light elves, loyal subject of his royal majesty Aklenroth Grimuth, ruler of Avalia. Long live the king!" Feldrin said out in a loud voice to announce Terneus arrival in a manner the governor found pleasing. Terneus waved softly with his right in a soft flickering fashion, his other hand located by his waist as he held unto it, the side-cape he wore over the same shoulder displaying his family sigil. Around his neck a fourhundred and seventy old necklace of finest gems and gold, on each of his fingers a different gem so that his peers would know of his wealth and varied taste. Or so he would have liked them to think. The elf could feel how eyes would begin to wander to him, and it filled him with pride. Even if he was crudely scarred, he would not let them see how much it irked him. How he hated the fact! The elf began to walk in a straight line in towards the finer sections of the ballroom, where he knew that he could easily be seen and gazed upon. Like a god revealing itself to it's subjects, that's how he viewed it.

Zelginn

Time: Late afternoon
Location: The grand ball

It was on quick and light feet that Zelginn moved up the stairs, he had his usual attire which consisted of some fine furs, but now with his mask pulled down before his face. He strolled up to the guards by the entrance.

"Good evening!" He said in a cheery manner, before one of the guards picked him up at the back of his collar, lifting him up. "No children without parents allowed. Get lost." The guard tossed him out, causing him to land on his rear.

"Oof! You lumbering oaf!" He cursed and snarled as he threw a glance up to a balcony very high up, the small figure couldn't help but smirk under his mask as he discreetly snuck off to the side of the large building. Pressing his feet against the ground before leaping up into the air towards the building, grabbing unto a small part of the building wall sticking out, then climbing up on it. Pressing his feet against it and lunging up towards his destination, and after some climbing and jumping he managed to reach it.

"Aha. Looks like you have a breach in your security..." *he raised his mask and stuck out his tongue and pulled the underside of one of his eyes with a finger. "Idiots."

The small figure began to traverse along the long corridors and railing of the upper floors, looking down to the large amount of people within the hall. "Sheesh.. that's sure alot of dumb people here..." He said aloud to himself, as his eyes scanned for his target. And sure enough he found it. Located on large tables in one corners of the large hall were the food section. Meat and drinks in plenty. Zelginn spent very little if any thought at all to restrain himself and quickly began to traverse the stairs and moving towards the tables holding all that rich folks food. He ducked behind a vase, then behind a fat woman... and then behind a potted plant. The food wouldn't see him coming, but the guards just might.

Elthrael Vol'Kerno

Time: Late afternoon
Location: Outside of the grand ball building, located on the roof of a nearby building, sitting with his legs crossed over the edge of it.

'A double edged trap this is, I don't have to be in the forest to know a trap when I see one. This so called rebellion may fail before it even begins, if only they had an ounce of wisdom and patience. What a disappointment you turned out to be... Elsea.' The moth fairy shook his head softly, the wind blowing in his long white hair, his golden eyes looking down to all the manner of people entering the large building from which the ball were being hosted within.

'What use it there is dethroning a king if you have not a proper replacement for him? This is just going to turn into a cluster of wars if he is ended, people are going to try to eat oneanother. Elves. Fairies. Demi-humans. Dark elves. Orcs... and humans. What is worse than this order? Chaos. Utter and sheer chaos. Unpredictable and dangerous for all involved.' The fairy softly sighed, and looked at the palm of his hand.

'I will wait Risa, for you to understand the only hope the fairy kingdom have is if you join with me. With my power and your connections we may bring order to the coming disorder. Once you and your friends are captive will you realize how wrong you were, and perhaps the only way to awaken you is to make your friends disappear forever. If you refuse I suppose the wretched lich will keep on ruling... what a shame.' Elthrael began to softly laugh atop of the building he sat on, looking down at the various carriages and dressed up people below.

'But what can one do against all these bad odds, but to wait for a more opportune moment to strike...' He tapped his cheek with a finger.

When Myra, Darius and Artemis left the amora, having finally arrived at Roshmi, it was clear to both of them that Myra was absolutely enchanted by the city. Her eyes were shining with curiosity and darting everywhere as she got out of the amora. Just like Darius though, Myra did notice the shriveled up trees, almost as if they were dead. It was a strange sight but for Myra, who was so amazed by everything else, she quickly forgot about it. Not even the presence of the sinister Umber was enough to distract Myra from all the new things she was seeing.

Arriving on the Grand Hall, Myra couldn't help but stop in front of it for a moment, looking at the huge building and all the lights. Even though both Darius and Artemis probably could guess that she wanted to run around and explore everything, Myra was doing a pretty good job of behaving herself and being close to both of them until now. There were so many people with colorful and different clothes, so many lights, for Myra, the entire scene was something she would never had imagined of before meeting Darius. Other than the smell of all the different people of all species in the air, Myra could also smell the fragrant scent of food and spices that she had never tasted before, remembering her that she had another attraction to see other than the ball itself.

Right in the middle of Myra's small inspection though, Airdan suddenly stood up, speaking something about going elsewhere as he walked away. Almost in the exact moment, a strange man with a funny, long nosed mask sat in their table, in the exact opposite end as Myra was. Even though his presence was a surprise, what did make Myra notice and be interested by the stranger even more was his mask. Without even making a single effort to hide it, she simply stared at it, tilting her head as if interested by the mask, more specifically, the long nose, going as far as leaning forward and lowering her head, trying to see under the nose to confirm if his nose was really that big or it was just the mask.

The moment that Myra leaned forward though, with her attention fully focused on the demi-human, she finally noticed, among all the other smells and scents that he had a faint but unmistakable smell... The smell of an undead. Immediately flinching back as she looked right towards him, she was a bit wary but since he didn't look like an undead, maybe there was another reason why he smelled as one. Sometimes when she killed them, her claws also smelled like that for a while... While it was clear she was a bit wary, it was also clear that it wasn't like the other times with other undead. For one reason or another, she seemed to be just a bit wary, almost as if she was still deciding if she should trust him or not.

Malachi had not put too much effort into his appearance other than picking out a decently appropriate outfit as well as a gold-colored mask to match it. He had spent most of the time the others were preparing and dressing up to work on the game plan and think things through. He had not gotten to see the others as he was entering the hall ahead of time to make sure things were safe. Kenia would be escorting the two humans inside.

After handing his ticket to the man at the entry, he had found himself walking into Roshmi Hall. It was gigantic and very open with an intricate gold-detailed flooring that could be seen under the moving feet of those dancing. The hall was marvelous with its beautiful chandeliers and painted ceilings. It had been a long time since Malachi had stepped foot in this hall and he could remember how breathtaking it was even up to this moment.

Couples in beautiful clothing were practically swirling around the center of the room. Round tables with silk table cloths were placed around the perimeter of the room. There were buffet tables with food and plenty of drinks for the guests to enjoy. At the back of the room, there were grand, rounded staircases at each end that led up to a balcony that overlooked the hall. Upon the balcony, there were seating areas and an arched doorway that led to a room with couches where people could talk privately.

Though beautiful, Malachi was never one to be able to truly admire this kind of place as it always was filled with snobby rich people that he couldn't stand. Normally, he couldn't even stand being in a place with a lot of people in general but then adding wealthy assholes into the mix just made it all the worse. The amount of money the folks here had probably invested in their gowns and suits made him sick. He leaned against the wall near the entry to await his companions, purposely averting his eyes from others to avoid starting up a conversation that was more than necessary.

"Hey, you. Take one." Malachi glanced over at the speaker to find a well-dressed gentleman with a bowl of cut-up pieces of paper. Malachi eyed the bowl then up at the man's smiling face as he continued "You will be assigned two dance partners through the two numbers you get on this piece of paper for the upcoming dances. They are enchanted to gravitate you toward the correct partners. It's a jolly ice breaker don't you think?"

He scowled at him, replying abruptly, "No." Once again, Malachi avoided his gaze but one of the papers was shoved into his hand regardless and he turned to yell at the man but he was rushing away to annoy someone else already. He glanced down at the paper, examining the two numbers: 11 and 7. Malachi sighed, resisting the temptation to throw it on the floor. It was a good opportunity to find humans so he had to deal with it. Dancing with strangers sounded awkwardly intimate. There had been only one person he had been interested in sharing a dance with. This thought prompted him to glance towards the entrance hopefully only to hear the worst statement ever being announced. Lord Terneus Andros was being introduced.

"Oh you're kidding me." Malachi grumbled and positioned himself behind a pillar.

Cade grinned at the compliant given to him by Sakura; he thought her well versed in the high society of Avalia and if his new clothes were enough to impress her then he felt confident that he could blend in well at the ball. “Sakura you are magnificent a vision of spring.” He said as he admired the beautiful dress. “Truly a sign of the renewed life we shall bring to Avalia, and what a fetching mask to match. I have always suspected that everyone secretly desires to be cat.” He added chuckling a bit at his own joke.

He nodded when Sukura asked if they were ready to head out. Although the prospect attending an event with so many enemies seemed daunting, he felt that they had already survived worse. If there truly were allies to be found at the ball, Cade had faith they would find them, after all, Avalia herself wanted them to succeed. ”I wouldn’t worry too much Ayita, we have survived an encounter with a dragon, I have no doubt we can survive a ball.” He said confidently, he felt more than ready to give this new adventure a try.
----------------------------------------

Although the place the ball was held at was grand and beautiful the first thing Cade noticed when they arrived was the smell of food that permeated the air. His stomach growled with excitement as he scanned the room until his eyes became fixed upon the most radiant of sights; the table that held a massive feast. With a great amount of restraint, he stayed with his group and continued to take in the sights of the rest of the room rather than follow his nose directly towards the food. Upon taking in the sights of the rest of the grand hall he wondered just how easy it would really be to blend in with high society. This ball was very different from any gathering he’d ever been to and he doubted the people here traded stories of battles with trolls or of hunting great beasts. They even seemed to dance and eat differently than the company he usually kept. It was clear he would have to study people hear more closely in order to mimic their behaviors.

“I guess now we mingle, and hopefully eat? It seems they have a fine spread laid out and I would hate to see that go to waste.” Cade suggested.

”I’d vote for anywhere but here, but since I doubt that’s still an option the back tables are closer to the exits.” Bowyn suggested once Belle had asked where they should go. He was less than impressed with the obscene opulence of the grand hall, the damn building, and the things it contained, were probably worth more than the entirety of the village he once called home. The shear amount of people here made it seem like finding other humans would be more difficult than locating a needle within a haystack. But at least there seemed to be an ample supply of alcohol which would mean soon enough the vast majority of the ball goers would be losing their wits enough to make picking pockets a more useful way to spend his time here. It would be easy enough to get money for further travels with the amount wealthy people packed into the hall.

”Check out Lord Turnip over there, I bet just one of those gems would feed an orphanage for weeks.” Bowyn whispered to Belle and Torvi as the entrance of the light elf governor was announced to the crowd of people. The sickening amount of wealth on display at the ball was more than enough to make Bowyn lose any appetite he might have had for the table of finely prepared food. A lifetime of seeing rulers and nobles flaunt their wealth and power while the common people toiled and starved was more than enough to convince him that living away from it all, alone in the forests, was a better way to live.

”Shall I go grab us some drinks while you pick out a table?” He suggested, doubting he’d make it through the evening sober without scoffing audibly at the whole thing.

@Eviledd1984 - O’Ner

Artemis lounged on the chair with her feet up as she surveyed the residents entering the hall. Her gaze flickered over the Elves entering. With disgust in her eyes, she scowled as the governor light elf entered. She despised the rich and wealthy who trampled over the less fortunate. As her scowl deepened, she turned to watch Airdan leave and sighed with relief. Upon noticing Darius’ disappointment, she kept her comments to herself and bid him goodbye with a stiff nod. Her attention turned to O’Ner. She smirked at his disguise and chuckled.

His offer to buy her a drink made her bite her tongue. While she didn’t trust people to do anything or bring her stuff without it possibly being tainted, she knew she had to conserve energy. There was going to be a point tonight she'd have to dip her feet in the fountain or pond outside to recharge. The traveling had fatigued her. Besides that, she was healing form years of abuse, torture, and starvation. When she told Darius, she knew she'd have to be careful with the details. So with a heavy sigh, she replied, ”Yes, I would love some food and water. And please, don’t be shy with the food. I have a lot of catching up to do.” Her stomach growled in concurrence. She sighed and resented not being able to grab it herself.

Her attention turned to Myra, who was peering at O’Ner with a quizzical expression. She smirked as she watched the encounter, chuckling. The demoness was too adorable. After Myra sniffed the air and figured out who he was, she settled back down. Artemis chuckled and rested her head on her folded palms to survey the others. Her gaze landed on Darius as she grinned. ”So, what do you think?”

TIME: Late Afternoon
LOCATION: The Grand Ball, Roshmi City
INTERACTIONS: Ayita @13org, Cadence @Helo

"Well I don't say we'll go as far as to call him prince but..." Sakura trailed and the two ladies shared a giggle. Truth be told, Ayita looked very pretty and Sakura didn't realize humans could look very nice and presentable too. As for Cade, she didn't the burly demihuman would look handsome if he just cleaned up after himself but of course, she won't openly admit it to him. She won't hear the end of his teasing and she didn't know if she could restrain herself from getting irritated by Cade's constant nagging at that point.

"It was the only mask they had in the store. Don't flatter yourself." Sakura said as she playfully nudged Cade. She admitted that after a while, she grew to like this pair of individuals. When she's with them, she felt so free and happy, like a huge weight was lifted off her chest and she could just be herself. Alas, if only that were truly possible. They'll despise her the moment they knew the truth about what she was and who she was.

Deep down in her heart, Sakura secretly hoped that things will stay the way they were right now. However, she of all people knew that secrets don't last forever. Despite all that, Sakura gave Ayita a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "Our 'fairytale prince' is right, Ayita. Just stay calm and be yourself." Sakura added to what Cade said as the trio continued to walk towards the Grand Ball.

There was also a feeling of fear that Sakura had and it was the fear of being found out. As far as she knew, only she and Aklenroth knew of her being a spy amongst the rebels. She could already feel the presence of numerous demons as they got closer to the Ball. What if another demon within the ball sensed her out? Could she use her magic in time to do something once the situation arises? What can her magic do about the situation anyway? That's not all, Sakura can also feel another strange presence that's far, far stronger than the rest. It was almost too familiar...

Once the trio got in sight, the life just drained out of Sakura's body. Greeting the newcomers were an unfamiliar masked woman, an elderly light elf who she could easily tell as Umber the disgusting creep of a demon that he was, and another light elf who... w-who was...

'Father'. Sakura thought to herself. Under any circumstances, she was supposed to be elated to see the Lich King once more but this was not the perfect time. Not now, not when she already made alliances that could help her fulfill her mission. For the first time in her demonic life, Sakura was nervous at the presence of Aklenroth especially during an event such as the Grand Ball.

The trio passed by her Father's group and through her mask, Sakura stared a little too long at Aklenroth who was disguised as an elf. She could only hope he knew that she must keep her identity a secret for the success of her mission. Sakura also had strong doubts that Umber will keep his ugly mouth shut or she'll end his twisted, miserable life.

Once they fully entered the Ball, the sight just blew Sakura's breath away. Everything looked so high class and regal, she thought the Demon Lord of Pride was the one who funded all the preparations. Foods of different kinds and varieties were displayed in long tables for everyone to eat with to their heart's content. The Ball gave off such a warm, inviting aura, enough to make everyone feel so calm and at ease, their stresses disappearing even for a little bit so they can fully enjoy this special night. Everyone was dressed so impeccably pretty and handsome today, their masks adding a hint of mystery to the event. The decorations made the Ball even more spectacular, especially the addition of a big tree on the left of the stage which looked so cute in Sakura's eyes. If all these were already grandiose, she was even more excited about what the performers will be doing later on.

All in all, everything was just so beautiful and perfect. Too perfect, in fact. 'Father, just what are you planning?'. She thought to herself.

Her thoughts were interrupted when Cade suggested eating and it made Sakura laugh. She was really glad to have met Cade and Ayita as she really learned a lot about herself in this mission. When a problem will arise during tonight's event, Sakura will make it her duty to protect these two just as how she protected them from Soruklithbaal. She just decided that she will cross that bridge when she gets there, and just enjoy the night with her two new best friends.

"Oh no, I will never make food wait for me. Let's go and eat to our heart's content!". Sakura cheerfully said.

By the time the ball came around, Kenia had convinced the innkeeper to let her use another room for a few hours as they got ready. She’d figured for her and Corvina it would be better to have their own space to get ready as it was most likely going to take awhile. She’d offered to help Cora ready herself as well, taking to doing her hair and offering to do her makeup as well if she wanted it. This provided a wonderful opportunity for the two women to bond a bit more on their own. Deep down, Kenia couldn’t help but feel a little sadness as she wondered if this would have been what it were like if she were able to help her own daughter get ready for such an event. She refused to let that sadness show, however, as she didn’t want to bring Cora down at all.

After several hours, they were dressed and ready to go. Kenia’s dress might have been a bit more eye catching than she intended, but she didn’t care. This was her, wearing something distracting like this she found to be a good way to start up conversations with people. She’d done her hair in waves and paired everything with a berry red colored lip. She put on her mask and then they were on their way. Rei stayed behind as he wasn’t feeling too well, but she did leave him with instructions on how to get to the Grand Hall if he got to feeling better at all. She wasn’t fond of leaving him there alone, but it was too important to go to this ball tonight.

Soon they were walking inside the Hall, Kenia having linked her arm with Corvina’s as she gave the girl a reassuring smile. Almost immediately after entering, a man approached them and gave each of them two pieces of paper. Apparently they were to be assigned a dance partner twice during the night. She didn’t mind this so much as she thought it would be a good way to speak with new people, maybe get some information from them. She glanced at the papers and saw that her numbers were 1 and 9. She then glanced around the room, wondering who had the matching numbers.

Her eyes then fell on a familiar figure and her heart skipped a beat as a smile came unbidden to her face. Off to the side, obviously trying to avoid people, was Malachi. While she had somewhat tried to avoid talking about what had happened at the tavern the other night, always claiming that now wasn’t the time to discuss such things, she couldn’t deny that she was beginning to care for him. This fact actually scared her a bit, why was she allowing herself to become attached to anyone? Part of her wanted to bolt, while another part of her wanted to go running for him. She did her best to push both thoughts out of her head as she looked over to Cora. ”Come on, I see Malachi. We should go over and at least let him know we made it safe.” She said before heading that direction.

”Well what is a handsome man like yourself doing standing here all alone? Perhaps you’d care for some company?” She said in greeting to Malachi, giving him a sly smile.

O'Ner was resting his cheek on his hand, observing everyone around him. He felt very uncomfortable being in such a open area with lots of people which made him quite uncomfortable. His insistent tapping of his finger on the table feeling nervous being around strangers in his human disguise, But he had a glass of wine in front of him which he was drinking form and refilling his glass cup. He wondered if he could get drunk from all of this wine he was consuming, however judging form all the previous situations he had drunk a large amount of alcohol and not having a hangover.

Signalling a waiter to come by and giving Artemis a glass of wine, "Do any of you have eyes on the rebels?" He asked the group, his eyes darting back and forth to the many people around them. Ordering next a few plateful of food for Artemis and the others if they wanted it since he could not drink or digest food.

Aklenroth listened as Umber’s words intruded into his mind and replied to him,“Thank you. I will take note of the human. I appreciate you locating one so quickly.” He stood upon the balcony that overlooked the ballroom, veering all the people eating and mingling. No one recognized him in his elven form and he was dressed in clothes that no one in the room could ever dream of affording.

First and foremost, he had to cast a spell to change his voice to disguise himself. Once that was done, he cleared his throat to address the room. “Welcome everyone, I am Vaeril. I am the host of this event. I am glad to see everyone dressed so elegantly. The night is young so please make the most of it and enjoy the refreshments. I hope all of you have received a piece of paper with two numbers on it. You will have a partner in the room who has the same number as you. The first number will be your first dance partner, The second is for your next partner. They are enchanted so that you will feel a strong pull to walk towards your partner when the music starts and you will not have to worry about trying to find them. This is a fun gesture for you all to get to know each other. After these two dances, you will have the chance to pick a partner of your choosing for a romantic slow dance. I will give everyone twenty minutes to mingle before the first dance begins.“

Darius had taken notice of Myra's reaction towards O'ner, but didn't worry too much about it. He'd been around her long enough to know when Myra was totally not okay with someone. Darius was just about to inquire about going to grab some food, but a light elf announcing the arrival of light elf governor Terneus Andros pulled his attention away.

"Ha! Now that's something." Darius commented with a smile, not expecting anyone to be that big of a deal. Not sure if anyone will top that entrance. He looked to Artemis who asked his thoughts on the ball so far. "So far so awesome. It's almost unreal." Darius replied as he pulled out his memory glass and took a snapshot of the ballroom. Once he was satisfied with the scenic view he captured he set his eyes on a roaming waiter delivering food to Artemis per O'ner's request. The food looked appetizing, and smelled even more delicious than it looked!

Darius couldn't help but notice that Artemis wasn't given any water, but assumed O'ner hadn't heard her request over Lord Terneus Andros' booming entrance. He could have conjured some up for her, but it was not advisable in this setting. Looking off to the buffet tables surrounded by hungry guests, Darius grinned as he saw the opportunity to join in while fetching a glass of water for one of his companions. While getting up from his seat, he heard O'ner's mention of rebels. "No, but I do have eyes on those banquet tables. I'm gonna head over there myself. You coming Myra? We can pick out what we want and how much we want." Darius grinned. He was also wondering if he would actually run into one the rebels. He wasn't actually sure how he would manage that though. It's not like these rebels had matching shoes or something. He removed his hat, placing it on his seat before holding his hand out for Myra to take. "We'll come back with some water for you."

Before they could depart from the table. Vaeril made his announcement. Darius' eyes lit up briefly at the sight of the light elf host as he knew who he truly was. And just like that, Terneus' entrance had been topped.

"Oh the dances are starting soon."

"That's right. And I have some numbers for you and your friends to grab! Two each." A well dressed feline demihuman presented a bowl of cut-up papers to their table. Darius grabbed two from the bowl and eyed the numbers on them before tucking them into the breast pocket of his jacket.

"Shall we feast?" Darius was ready to walk over soon as Myra grabbed her two slips of paper.

Ambience: Prom Queen

Cora had been excited upon the day of the ball. Dances always excited her, even from a young age. There was something about the art of dancing and being in these situations that comforted her. Being on stage, regardless of her status, was a place of comfort. From a young age she had been performing; be it ballet, gymnastics or her passion, ice skating. The dreaded feeling of bouncing around homes, finding and leaving families, would melt away. She had been ten years old when Linnet’s family had adopted her.

By that time, Cora’s drive and ambition to perform hadn’t been sated and they could sense it. They enrolled her in as much as they could while she studied and watched as she blossomed into a talented young lady. She had found herself at rivalry with her foster sister, however. While Linnet had a loving and doting family, she was not as talented as Cora. She won beauty pageants, dancing competitions and ballet. She had finally convinced her adoptive parents to enrol her into ice skating. From there, Cora’s childhood took off at a rapid pace with skating. Her dream had then blossomed into becoming an Olympic figure skater. This was something Linnet became jealous of and resented her for as they grew up.

The last straw, however, had been Cora befriending Gale: the equally talented and tall ice skater with creamy brown eyes and blonde hair. Their bond was remarkable, surprising everyone who had thought Linnet and Gale would have become best friends. Flash forward to high school senior year, and the two had become the “it” couple. Cora, the Olympic hopeful valedictorian alongside Gale, the equally talented and athletic individual. That prom night, they had been crowned Prom Queen and King unanimously. Nothing had upset Linnet more than watching these two who were destined to become great.

Cora’s mind was not focused anymore on the Inn. No, she was back in her high school, arm-in-arm with Gale. It had also been a masquerade dance and the two had coordinated their outfits together. Both were silver and blue, their favorite colors. The two were expected and catered to practically; surrounded by friends. She had been the happiest there; in the following weeks, their athlete applications had been filled for a prestigious school near the stadium. Everything was perfect… until May.

Cora stared at her reflection as Kenia finished her hair. She beamed and twirled around in her dress. Cora had been delighted when she found it and rather excited to find a matching mask as well. She sighed and tried remembering she was a different person now. She was a rebel now, hiding among Elves and attending a ball. It would be littered with good and bad citizens as well. She had no idea how to feel or prepare, other than nervous and excited mingled together. Cora could sense Kenia was sad but was trying not to show it. The woman’s story about her children was no doubt in her mind. Cora herself wanted nothing more than justice for her. She wondered what Malachi’s story would be and if it was equally tragic. Her heart ached for her Elven ‘parents’.

Finally ready to go, they arrived at the ball soon after getting ready. Rei was staying behind, which dampened her mood. She felt anxiety and worry leaving him but they couldn’t change his mind. She knew he could defend himself however, so it comforted her. As they entered the ball, Kenia looped her arm through her’s and she grinned. With her head high, she held Kenia’s arm back. They were given numbers after entering the ball and coming inside. Cora sighed and stuck them in her dress pocket. Her boots clicked quietly on the floor as Kenia directed them towards Malachi. She beamed when she saw him and giggled at Kenia’s comments. She couldn’t help but quickly hug him. She had been relieved to see him and that nothing had happened while he had been here. She turned to look over to see Terneus and snickered derisively under her breath. Oh joy,[ Cora thought with an eye roll as she turned back to the Elves to await their next move or decision.

Walking into the Grand Hall was definitely something quite unusual for Torvi, but she did her best not to let anything show. She kept her face neutral and tapped into her warrior’s training to keep from giving away any of her emotions. She did spare a quick glance at Belle as they entered, however, and realized the girl wasn’t as skilled at hiding things. Oh well, it was probably fine and if anyone asked it would be easy to just say this was her first time at the Grand Hall.

She chuckled at Bowyn’s obvious distaste still of being there, but he made a fair point about positioning themselves near an exit. If something were to go down tonight it would be much better for them to be near a quick escape route. Her attention was then drawn by the announcement of someone entering the hall. No one else had been announced and so it definitely made her turn her head to look at the man. ”What a pompous ass…” She said with the shake of her head before looking back to Bowyn.

”I feel like asking that question of me is a silly one, but yes I will take a drink please.” She responded with a giggle and then waited for the others to respond as well before looking around and locating a table near an exit.

”I think we should sit over there maybe?” As she was pointing a man came up to give them all two pieces of paper each. It was soon made clear what they would be used for as the light elf host quieted the room and welcomed his guests. Well dancing with strangers would be a good way to speak to new people, that was for sure.

Umber’s voice filled Azriel’s head as he informed them all that he located a human. A grin crossed her face as he described what she looked like and who she was accompanied by. ”A black feathered mask you say? Perhaps she needs a few more feathers added to her ensemble.” She said in response as one of her mithril covered feathers appeared in her hand. She looked the delicate weapon over with glee as she ran her finger down the side of it, slicing it open and allowing blood to pool and drip onto the feather.

Her attention was grabbed by a man prompting her to take two pieces of paper. ”And what if I don’t want to?” She asked him which in turn prompted the man to quickly bestow two pieces of paper on her before scurrying away. ”What a bold little man.” She said with a wicked smile before flicking the feather she was holding towards him and embedding it in a pillar he was walking by. She watched him jump and glance over his shoulder at her with a gulp before quickly moving once again. She chuckled to herself until the annoying announcement of Lord Terneus reached her ears.

”And people wonder why I don’t like light elves.” She said as she rolled her eyes and then looked up to see a disguised Aklenroth addressing the crowd and welcoming them. He mentioned how dancing would commence and the papers made sense now. What an intriguing move. She thought to herself as she stuck her bleeding finger in her mouth to help stop the bleeding.

There was no grand entrance, nor announcement as Risa made her way into the room with natural poise and elegance. Once eyes were set on her, they lingered. The sparkles and jewels on her gown and in her headpiece shimmered under the chandelier lights. The dress, similar to the clothes of the man who had just finished up announcing from the balcony as she entered, was clearly more expensive than the norm and extremely intricate in design and the sleeves were translucent and off the shoulder, also shimmering a bit in the light. Even her mask seemed to have expensive jewels. In other words, it was old money. This type of clothing was exclusively worn by the royals of the past.

"Queen Camellia?" Hushed whispers of the elder fairies and even that of other species came over the room. She could almost catch her own name being thrown into the mix of their gossip. Risa knew that showing up in the dress of her grandmother in the city where the guards wanted her head was a bold and reckless move. There was fear she couldn't quite shake no matter how determined she was, causing her to grip her skirt to try to hide her trembling hands. She refused to let it show. There was no need for her to hide no longer. That dark elf had been so keen on forcing her right into the center of the mess so here she'd be. They would not usher her into hiding any longer. It was her blood they feared so she'd wear it on the outside of her skin.

Risa had not expected to garner as much attention as she did and decided to embrace it with a simple smile. A few continued staring and whispering, but most continued with their own business. She turned around to look for Kyran and Elsea, who would have entered not long after her.

”Well what is a handsome man like yourself doing standing here all alone? Perhaps you’d care for some company?”

A smile crossed Malachi's face at the voice and he turned to stare. Kenia had certainly chosen a dress that stood out. The golden wrap that came along with it was rather lovely but he found himself unable to pay too much attention to her attire but rather found his eyes traveling to her face. He had barely noticed Corvina hugging him enough to retort at her for doing so, hugging her back. It crossed his mind to make sure his mouth wasn't gaping open, which it was a little, and simply took her hand and kissed the back of her palm in greeting.

"I'm glad to see you two safe. Remember the objective for tonight and try not to get too caught up in everything." He told them. He paused as to listen to the well-dressed man speaking from the balcony. His words were about the dumb dancing arrangements that were set up beginning in twenty minutes. What really mattered was his strangely expensive clothing. Who was this man? He stared at him skeptically, looking him up and down for a moment before glancing back at the two girls "Alright ladies. Go pick up a slip from those folk with the bowls. This will be our chance to possibly find some... "He drew off as he spoke to them in a hushed voice. "Friends. Try to avoid that idiot governor if possible."

Malachi glanced back toward the room to see everyone staring at the entrance. He too glanced in the direction to see a familiar head of pink in a captivating gown that brought back memories buried deep in his old mind. Fairies had been as obnoxious as elves when it came to the royal ball attire, especially in the ancient days. A rush of whispering and talking overcame the crowd. "What is she doing..." He muttered.

How the dress of the last fairy queen had lasted after all these years was beyond him, but more importantly, why hadn't Risa worn something more inconspicuous? Why was she being so upfront? The girl had seemed young and ignorant to a point, but not this foolish. There had to be some sort of plan. She was lucky that absolutely no magic could be used in this ballroom. It was also customary that all violence never be a thing in events of this sort. The fairy girl had an angle.

Time: Dawn
Location: Roshmi Slums -> Upper Roshmi District

BGM: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YA9yls4EbFo

As the day of the ball neared, Kuroi had decided it best for Baraian to go on ahead of him. The vulpine stayed on the rooftop and meditated until dawn, not wanting to risk being caught in the light of day. The first half of his day was spent lurking in the shadows, only showing himself when he was certain he wouldn't be met with any sort of opposition. Sure, choking a guard or two out may have been necessary from time to time, but other than that, Kuroi was able to arrive at the upper-class district of the city.

Time: Afternoon

What one would consider the wealthy's territory is where Kuroi soon found himself in. Around him were well-kempt streets and buildings, children running around in colorful, high-quality gambesons, and luxurious neighborhoods where the more fortunate lived. Kuroi was now wide in the open, standing in the middle of the cobblestone-paved streets. Were it not for his rather good standing among his neighbors, he surely would have been ratted out ages ago. Nonetheless, there was no need to put too much trust into those he considered friends (or acquaintances, at the least).

Stalking throughout the alleyways, it took Kuroi another couple of hours in order to reach home. Comparably, his abode was far smaller than many of the neighbors' - the patrician-esque mansions overshadowed the smaller cottage in which the Usagi's lived in. Nonetheless, it still upheld the luxurious standards one would imagine of the upper class.

After making his way into his house through the backdoor, he was suddenly called by his mother's voice, "Kuroi? We have much to talk about..."

---

The rest of the afternoon flew by as Kuroi explained how he had unintentionally been dragged into rebels' plans, gotten into a near-lethal scrap with the city's beloved governor, and his encounter with a human a few days prior. Akane was not one to jump to conclusions nor put disbelief into her own flesh and blood. Everything that her son said to her was received with the utmost of empathy and understanding, and she soon came to realize that she would soon have to pull her own political strings once opportunities showed themselves.

"I met with the governor's self-interest with my own ears and eyes. If you were to leave now, any underhanded tactics of theirs would be-"

Akane put her hand up, stopping her son from speaking. "If I am to do my job as a mother and to Roshmi, regardless of corruption within its political workings, I will continue to teach the city to defend itself if the need ever arises. Do not worry about your mother, Kuroi, I shall take caution in my work and do my best to clear your name rightfully. Remember who taught you the skills that brought you to local fame."

The young fox's mother softened her expression and soon began to rub her son's cheek endearingly. "I shall inform your father when he returns from his journey to the elven villages. For now, you best play your part as one of Roshmi's champions," she reassured him. Akane pulled back and reached for a sealed letter on the table behind her. Placing it in Kuroi's hands, she began to speak once again, "The city and its less corrupt officials will be somewhat more understanding if you attend the ball as unexpected. No one would expect a wanted criminal to walk straight into the political maw of the nation, and that is where you will be the safest."

The young fox stayed silent for some time, staring down at the letter that had been meant for him and him alone. He had already assumed that his mother would have wanted him to go to represent their family under normal circumstances. Said circumstances had instead resulted in Kuroi being coaxed by his mother to show his innocence by sheer fearlessness. Although he wasn't fond of how dangerous such a public stunt might be, he believed it to be one of the safest options at this point in time. With a nod of his head, Akane began to speak to her son once again, gently scratching behind one of his ears, "I have already prepared your formal clothes, my son. I shall keep myself safe and do my best to make use of my own political connections. Stay safe."

His mother leaned towards Kuroi and placed a kiss on his forehead before walking away.

---

An hour passed as Kuroi prepared himself for what possibly might be the riskiest night of his life. After his bath, his hair had been styled for the event accordingly, and his original makeup had been washed off in order to properly adorn his face for the occasion. His skin was a tad lighter than what it naturally was, resulting in pale, albeit flawless skin. Only minimal contouring was requiring for the vulpine as genetics had graced him with rather dashing cheekbones and a strong jawline. The eyeliner he had applied was complimented by the gray and black eyeshadow he used, resulting in a mildly androgynous look. Once he had considered his face to be the perfect blend of masculinity and femininity, he began to dress in the clothes his mother had laid out for him.

Against his bare skin, he wore a black kimono, and over it, he wore a thin trenchcoat which had a jacket-like shawl attached to it. He had a leather girdle tied around his waist, one equally as dark as the rest of his attire. Around his neck, he wore a scarf, one half of it white, and the other half black. As one could imagine, his dress shoes, although well-made, stayed true to Kuroi's aesthetic. All that remained now were his accessories which leaned against his wall. He put on his gloves and picked up his crystal handled cane, jerking it upwards in order to catch his hat on his head.

Stepping out of his room and moving towards the door, he called out to Akane, "Mother, I'll be back sometime early in the morning. Pray that I not run into any trouble, please."

As Kuroi could imagine, the guards who inspected his letter of invitation were, well, rather shocked. As predicted (or perhaps arranged) by his mother, the dark elves made no effort in stopping him from entering the formal ball. Entering Roshmi Hall, Kuroi had put on his fox mask as requested by the party host. As to not ruin his aesthetic, Kuroi positioned his mask off to the side of his head, allowing his face to be fully admired with little obstruction.

The unified cacophony of instruments filled his ears as he neared the festivities, and soon that cacophony turned into a beautiful composition that graced his being. Kuroi strode into the ballroom, using his cane for mild support due to the unfortunate injury he had sustained a day ago. He stopped in front of the doorway, taking a deep breath before he pushed open the doors and walked inside. The vulpine was already well aware that the governor of the city was in here somewhere. He prayed for Baraian's sake that he would not lose his temper upon seeing him and cane him to death.

'No...I must enjoy myself. I must prove myself by enjoying myself...' Kuroi thought to himself before walking into the nearest gathering of people. Now it was time to relax until called upon - it was time to enjoy socialization and a glass of the finest wine given to him by one of the many servants on the premises.

Kyran entered the ballroom shortly after Risa. He was dressed well for himself in handsome attire, probably the best dressed he had been in his life. He glanced around before being halted by a man asking him to take a slip of paper which he quickly took and continued on his way. Kyran did not look around much as his eyes were glued to Risa and her beauty. The ballroom might as well have been a white background around her. The way her dress glistened in the light from the chandeliers and how it fit against her body. He had never seen anyone so perfect in his life.

It took him a few minutes to recuperate and notice that he wasn’t the only one staring. Heads had turned and he could tell people were whispering. This worried him that she was drawing so much attention since she was wanted dead. He was unsure about the statement she was putting out by wearing her grandmother’s dress and unsure over her decision to even show up. Kyran wasn’t willing to lose her at any cost. This whole thing had him on edge.

Luckily Kyran didn’t really depend on magic if something were to happen he could handle hand to hand fighting, which gave him some minor comfort in this situation. He looked behind him to see if he could find Elsea following. She had come to feel like a sister to him and he was afraid of her getting into trouble as well.

Location: Roshmi Grand Ball

Belle sighed as she stared at the paper in her hands. Balls included dancing, but she had been hoping to avoid it. She didn’t know who the Light Elf was on the balcony addressing them. Belle had listened to his words, though she couldn’t help but wonder who he was. Next, she had turned to see Terneus enter. She remained impassive, but noted the cut on his face. Belle could have guessed who had given him it, but wasn’t certain. She’d have to ask Kuroi and or Baraian later. Speaking of them, where were they?

Her attention turned to an elf handing them slips of paper with a number on it for their dance partner. She scowled and caused at him, which in turn caused the elf to scurry. She turned to Torvi and Bowyn, nodding at his offer. ”Yes please, I'll take water. Thank you.” Then, she turned to Torvi and pointed to the back of the room. There were a variety of empty tables. One of the tables was occupied by two demihumans, but theirs was far enough away. Belle knew at some point, she would have to socialize to find allies and it made her groan. ’Found one.” she gestured and began walking towards it. Her heels clicked quietly against the ground and she couldn’t help but feel a few stares. Most of these elves were taller than her, but perhaps she could lie and say she much younger and hadn't reached her growth spurt yet.

As she approached the table, she glanced over her shoulder upon hearing a stream of whispers. A fairy with pink hair entered wearing an elaborate dress. She stared at her and couldn’t help but stare. Whoever this woman was she had gathered quite a bit of attention. She glanced at Torvi and shrugged. ”Do you know who she is?” Belle whispered as she sat down at the table. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Rosemary and Elleta hovering nearby, which in turn caused Belle to scowl. 'I don’t need a fucking babysitter,' Belle thought dryly and regretted not asking for mead. She wished she had her gun so she could shoot herself and get out of this ball. The opportunity to find allies was tempting though, which was the only silver lining of the evening. All the wealth had caused her stomach to churn. It reminded her of how she turned to thievery in her childhood to eat and join the gang (The Hunters) to survive. She scowled deeply. All the wealth in the world, yet undistributed. Avalia wasn't too different from Earth in that sense.

She sighed again and watched the dance and began wondering who the hell she’d dance with and how long it would take. She turned to Torvi. "I'm glad to have your company, by the way." She offered a rare smile and fell silent. Belle surveyed the dance floor, occasionally glancing at Terneus and then to Ilan and Regulus. She tapped her fingers on the table and remained outwardly collected and calm. Regulus was masked, so at least he wasn't’ entirely recognizable. There were all sorts of creatures here, so it made it easier to blend it. She swallowed hard. She needed to protect herself, but they had helped her. God, she hated this. It was much easier to feel numb than it was to care. The more you cared, the more you had to lose...

Belle rubbed her temples, then folded her hands. She was going to shut off her emotions for the rest of the evening and focus on her comrades. It would be easier if she could hide in the hoods with Bowyn and Torvi and forget the rebellion. But what would that make her? It would make her a coward and Gaia, the Hunters leader, hadn’t raised a coward. Calculating, selfish and ruthless; but definitely not a coward. So then why was she so afraid? Running away would only temporarily rid herself of the responsibility.. She yearned to tune out the aching throb in her chest and drown out her stress with mead. If she could only refill it herself, she wouldn’t need to get up and possibly socialize. Belle sighed quietly once more and awaited Torvi’s reply.

Ayita couldn't help but to chuckle as she watched Cade and Sakura teasing each other. Even now, it was a bit strange on how the group was so close despite not having known each other for too long. She did have people she knew and friends back home but she never expected she would be so comfortable around people she had met only recently. Even having to deal with such a grim and difficult situation, the atmosphere while they were together was still comfortable and warm.

"You're both right, it will be less suspicious if I just act normally, right?" Ayita said with a smile, calming herself down.

The moment they entered the hall where the ball was happening, Ayita was just amazed by how grand and glamorous everything was. From the tables, the food and even the hall itself, which were carefully decorated to the people who were invited to the ball as well. It was honestly amazing for her to see all that, especially the many different races, each one wearing different clothes and dresses. For a few minutes, Ayita simply didn't know where to look at, still amazed by everything around her.

"Wow... I never saw something as grandiose as this!" Ayita said with a small giggle as she looked around, forgetting for a moment that she was among people who could be her enemies if they knew she was a human. Upon realizing that though, she flinched and tried to regain her composure after realizing that. Before she could say anything though, a voice echoed through the hall as a male elf called Vaeril presented himself as the host as he explained the schedule for the ball.

Ayita heard Vaeril's words carefully as he explained, the part about the papers and the numbers was indeed interesting, despite the magic involved it did seem to be a fun little game to encourage everyone to know each other. It was surprising on how well planned the ball was.

"Oh, that seems fun! I wonder who will I meet..." she commented as she heard Vaeril mentioning about the enchanted papers as she got one from the servants as they approached the group.

When the explanation was finished, Cade and Sakura mentioned the food and wanting to go eat something.

"So, we still have twenty minutes before the dances! While we eat, is there anything I should be careful regarding other races? Specifically when dancing?" Ayita asked as she followed Cade and Sakura.

"If something is considered impolite for a particular race or the opposite..." she asked, looking at both of them.

Elsea followed her small group into the ball, on high alert the whole time as she knew Risa’s statement was going to draw attention to them immediately. They were playing a risky game and while the attention made her nervous, she supported her friend's decision. If they wanted to draw allies to them, this would definitely be one way to do so. Her eyes scanned everyone, watching for any sort of attack that they might encounter. Someone had to keep alert, especially since Kyran was quite obviously distracted by Risa’s beauty. That thought made her laugh internally.

She also scanned the crowd for a familiar, unwelcome face. Elthrael had yet to show his face again and Elsea had a feeling he wasn’t about to give up on Risa so easily. He had an obsession with power and control, she knew they hadn’t seen the last of him. Just the thought of it caused that familiar feeling of rage to course through her for a brief minute. She knew she shouldn’t feed off of that rage, but it gave her determination. She’d prove that he was wrong, she’d prove that she was stronger than anyone ever thought. Stronger than Elthrael thinks, stronger than the people from her home thought, strong enough to win against Aklenroth.

She held her head high, looking like some of the proud light elves in the room and she smirked at the shock that Risa gained. After a moment she was handed two little pieces of paper and soon understood that she’d have two people to dance with. Good. She thought to herself, ready to play her part and help find allies.

”Such a gentleman.” Kenia smirked in response to Malachi as he kissed her hand, but she really did think the gesture was sweet. ”Already way ahead of you.” She held up the slips of paper, indicating they were ready for their assignment. She could only hope that one of them would be paired with a “light elf” that was really a human in disguise. Dancing with them would make it easy to see if the ears had that tattoo mark on them indicating who they were.

The hush followed by whispers and then Malachi looking in a direction behind her was enough to warrant Kenia to turn around. The sight she was greeted with was one that was rather unexpected. There walked in Risa dressed in a familiar dress, obviously causing a bit of a scene. Malachi seemed to disapprove, but Kenia instead smirked. ”Well would you look at that, the queen has made her return.” She said, amusement apparent in her voice. ”She’s making a statement, she isn’t hiding anymore. I think it’s brilliant honestly. Chances are she’s going to inspire others to join in the fight.” She kept her tone hushed, just in case anyone was listening in. She was proud of the young fairy girl for being so bold.

Every guest was greeted with a smile and every guest was read thoroughly by Umber. There were few that piqued his interest. Bararian, Sakura, and none other than Risa Millenia. And this wasn't just some hunch. This was indeed the fairy Xenelith had spoken of and right by hers was a… fox? This demihuman did not resemble what he saw in the picture or within Xenelith's vengeful thoughts. Still, this was a fox demihuman and it was safe to assume her was either the same one or closely related.

The fox, the make-believe princess, and…. That must be her…. Elsea... Yes... It must be her! Umber froze as he looked upon the woman that approached Risa and her male companion. A fair-skinned woman kissed by fire at birth. She was disguised as an elf, but that unmistakable ember that could ignite her soul gave her away. That potential was what had attracted him to her in the first place. It had withered a great deal, but it was still there. It was what drove her, carrying her will and guiding her heart. She had made friends that would help her forget the betrayal of her own kind, but the dark memories were not forgotten. The fire was still there. Hidden among pride, happiness, and confidence was what Umber prized more than any emotion… rage.

Umber nodded to the guards at the door, signaling to them that it was time to suspend entry into Roshmi Grand Hall. Dressed in black and gold, the false elf stood tall, even though he was only about 5'5" and possibly the oldest looking person in attendance. Before he stepped onto the ballroom floor, he relayed another message to his allies.

"The group hiding humans that we lost in River Kingdom have arrived… Risa Millinia is among them… No description needed. She's a bit hard to miss. Accompanying her is a canine demihuman as well as a female human with red hair and a… turquoise dress… Mmmm... I am entering the ballroom now. Doors are sealed, so I will partake in… the festivities."

Umber looked upon all those in attendance, his sights locking on the first human he had identified today. Belladonna. This girl was not Elsea, but he needed to be patient. Elsea was too precious to twist and bend, but this human who expressed so much concern may prove to be a fine playtoy. The young woman he had his eyes on was speaking with the two she had entered the ball with. A smile formed on his lips as his eyes looked to her company at her side.

"Hello human...You don't know me and yes I am speaking to you through your mind. You can panic, but it won't help you… How are you so afraid..? So weak? It's almost disgusting.... Fear of responsibility? What are you, a child? Interesting. The other humans I've felt were foolish, but you simply don't belong here, child. The weakest link, the easiest found… Not a threat, but the other human is… yes. I will kill her first. And you will get to watch."

Cade’s interest in the food was momentarily forgotten as a new guest entered the ballroom drawing a great many stares and whispers from other guests. A fairy dressed in the unmistakable garb of the old royalty, a line of true rules who could never be forgotten by those who truly loved what Avalia had once been. There was no mistaking who the pink haired fairy was and those he had met from the Flower Kingdom had spoke only of the kindness and generosity of their beloved princess. The mere sight of a living remnant of a time where the rulers of Avalia had been honorable and just, before the darkness of undead lich, inspired a powerful feeling of hope in him for the return of that prosperity. He fought the urge to kneel before such a figure but the enthusiastic flicking of his tail and joyous grin gave away his excitement.

”What a remarkable display of courage.” Cade said in a soft whisper, more to himself than to his companions. His tone full of pride for all that Avalia had once been and for what he was certain it could be again. Cade’s momentary loss in his sense of awe was ended by the man handing out papers for the icebreaker dances and he quickly turned his attention back to his friends. Ayita was still concerned about fitting in with the rest of the ball goers, a concern he shared for himself as well. It was much easier for Cade to fit in with those considered commoners than the higher classes where rules of etiquette were learned from birth. He looked to Sakura, who carried herself with the elegance of those who could claim noble birth to answer any questions on proper decorum though he wasn’t sure how much anyone could really learn in only twenty minutes.

”I have always found that when lacking the knowledge of proper customs, others respond well to common politeness and respect. My village did not have the vast diversity of Roshmi but most people enjoy talking about themselves and one can get by through listening and observing. At least that has been my experience though I’ve never really spent time around the more noble classes.” Cade said offering what advice he could as he headed towards the assortment of food.

”And I can only assume it would be rude not partake in such a finely prepared feast, and worse yet to make the food continue to wait for the company of such fine ladies.” He added grateful for the chance to indulge in the fine collection of meats and fish prepared by those whose greatest skill was in the culinary arts. He made conscious effort to both keep his mouth closed when chewing and to use the provided cutlery, which felt very unnatural in his grip.

Bowyn took the long way around the room to the area dedicated to food and drink, carefully observing his surroundings, noting the possible exists from the ballroom. Though the space itself was quite large the vast amount of people inside provided him with a very claustrophobic feeling. This was not a place he would ever want to be trapped in, surrounded by a great number of people who he did not doubt willing served Aklenroth, and knowing every possible escape gave him a mild form of relief from that thought. His attention was momentarily drawn from his surroundings at the arrival of a fairy who cause those nearby him to change their tones to hushed whispers. Upon seeing the garish attire worn by that fairy, a dress that seemed to exist for no other reason than to attract attention, Bowyn couldn’t help but roll his eyes. Some member of the practically defunct royal family from the Flower Kingdom had foolishly deemed this ball the place to try and stir up trouble, the only foreseeable outcome of such a blatant display of title.

Boreas remained still and equally observant as he rested on his shoulder, sensing the winter fairy’s unease. Bowyn would’ve preferred to leave as the whole event seemed destined for trouble and he eyed the closest exit for lingering moment before continuing through the crowd of people towards a table that contained both mead and glasses. He quickly rushed to fill three glasses spilling some of the mead in the process, but he was far too vexed by his choice not to leave immediately to remain undistracted. He allowed himself to become far too attached to both Torvi and Belle, making him unable to leave a situation where the potential for danger far outweighed any gain for him alone. The only reward this ball could offer was in helping them find allies and keeping them alive. This ball offered him no chance at getting any closer to tracking down the monstrous creature that Aklenroth had turned Aeryn into, and Bowyn could see no good reason to stay here. He carried the glasses back towards the table where Torvi and Belle where, pausing once more near an exit before continuing towards the table.

”We can’t leave them here.” Boreas said with his tone carrying message that bird understood both the sense of danger he felt from Bowyn and what staying here could mean for them.

”You don’t have to stay, you’ve done more than enough for me.” Bowyn whispered back to the merlin.

”I will stay too.” Boreas replied and Bowyn knew the bird understood what that meant, they would likely continue to put themselves in dangerous situations. That now more creatures mattered to Bowyn than just one bird.

”Then you are a fool too.” Bowyn whispered back to the bird with a hint of a smile.

”Then we will be fools together.” Boreas agreed as Bowyn and the loyal bird found their way back to the table where Torvi and Belle were seated.

“It seems the flower kingdom has sent a princess to honor us all with her presence.” Bowyn said, with mock enthusiasm, as he sat three glasses of mead at the table. He glanced at Belle who he now remembered had requested water rather than a real drink and simply shrugged.

“Didn’t see any water but there’s definitely some water in there.” Bowyn added before taking a long drink from his glass. He had a feeling he was going to need as much liquid courage as possible befor the night was through. He paused for a second to assess those who were near their table before continuing in quiet whisper. “That fairy everyone keeps looking at, a princess from the Flower Kingdom, her showing up here, and in that dress, can only lead to trouble. Our situation here is mostly likely more dangerous than we originally expected. I am still not opposed to leaving, I doubt anyone would really notice if we go before the dances start.” He offered though a part of him already knew he had missed his opportunity to so, and he doubted they would share his eagerness to leave based solely on a fairy in an old and expensive dress.
