Crisis of the Confederacy
- = + = - = + = - = + = - = + = -

It is 2259 AD, and the Stellar Confederation is dying. Decades of mismanagement, political instability and economic collapse was capped off by the destruction of the Human homeworld, Earth. On March 15th, 2159, the very nation-states that birthed the dozens of planets of the Confederacy, had obliterated themselves, taking the seat of Confederate Parliament with them. Now, billions of souls across the stars look to what remains and all ask one single question:
"What happens next?"

Now I feel like I actually need to answer/respond to the questions laid out...

The sci-fi one is basically like the old Star Wars Imperial Warlords canon although I don't know if my knowledge on that stuff is good enough to warrant a proper SW NRP; more likely it'll end up as the same setting or an entirely new setting.

The modern one I have a bit more of a grounded idea. its 20XX and this nondescript country has fallen into civil war after a prolonged period of instability and a general downward trend. Along side the generals and revolutionaries, there are also corporate and international interests. Each side would have different objectives/bonuses so for example Warlords need resources but certain resources are controlled entirely by the corporations who have their own security forces in the area to protect their stuff. International forces might include something like a UN peace keeping force or neighboring countries sending in their own forces to "protect" things. Of course, the Corps and the Ints would be bound more by the laws of war and public perception where as the warlords have aren't. Both warlords and Ints would want the capital for legitimacy reasons while the corporates might not want a quick peace so they can expand whatever holdings and company towns they might have.

The latter idea could also be put on to a sci fi setting and I'm still on the fence about making stats up for it. However I do plan on having regular "events" that happen that can change things up. Like maybe a shipment of guns got lost and can be recovered or some former big wig is open to being rescued/captured. Some last things is that this could be retooled into a fantasy setting as well if people want to roleplay one of Rome's many civil wars and that while people would likely start with similar armies and such, I'm interested in seeing what kind of new unique units and such could develop from it.

In the case for sci-fi, I vote for a new setting. It might take some more time, but if you do do it, i'd try and lay down some more firm "ground rules" first. Personally I think that Space NRP can kinda descend into "Whoops! Accidentally invented Warhammer 40k!" fairly quickly, so having some pre-established rules would work really well in this case imo. It also might be worth considering making it such that warfare is either:

1) Incredibly destructive, veering on levels of M.A.D. so it's really only done as a last resort
2) A case where actually achieving strategic goals on anything larger than a planetary or even systemic scale is incredibly complicated, such to where outside of individual battles within planets or even for individual space stations, large-scale warfare is, in essence, too complicated on a large scale for most organizations to handle.

Also Legends >>>>>>>>> Canon don't @ me

In the case of modern day, it's sorta getting into an interesting - if equally complicated - situation. Because of how Modern PoliticsTM works, civil wars tend to be one of those things that..well...

Civil wars only tend to get longer and longer as the times go on, and I think this is something really to consider in this case, too. In a contemporary, modern-day setting, the conflict in question has probably gone on for decades by this point, and the land in question can easily be considered completely ruined by most everyone else on the planet.

And on the final notes, I get the appeal to stats and rolls in NRP. I hate 'em. Can't stand 'em. Every single time i've seen them, i've never really seen them done right. The more and more i'm exposed to them, the more they feel like a tacked-on addition to try and balance out the game, but they either:

1) End up being too vague to be of much help when writing or creating a NS.
2) End up getting forgotten about entirely as the story has to go on.
3) Are put in to "Encourage not min-maxing", and then everybody goes on to try and squeeze as much value out of every individual stat as they can, and by trying to not encourage min-maxing, it encourages min-maxing.
4) Don't really make much sense to begin with, either because they aren't clearly defined (See Point 1) or because they're too all-encompassing, to where things that should intuitively be completely unrelated qualities end up being lumped together in the same stat. (EX. Technology and Industrial Capacity being separate (Which is very quickly debunked by military historians), Army quality and size being the same stat, etc. etc.)

It doesn't really make much sense to me to try and make abstractions for the purpose of making stuff up about your nation, since I am of a simple belief: Real life has stats, and we should probably just use those if we want to number-crunch. Otherwise, just stick to focusing on the story at hand.

(Please note, I wrote this at like 2am, please be gentle if its not entire coherent >_<)

It's ok i've felt exhausted lately for no really good reason, plus this entire response has been semi-rambly as it is. You good fam

@Yam I Am Okay wow holy shit I was not expecting something like this but I love it!

I was doing some thinking and I think I'm leaning towards a sort of mix where its sci-fi but all focused on one planet. This planet would be a part of a greater Space UN confederacy or whatever and the planet itself is rich in valuable resources but also unstable politically due to having been ruled by a military dictatorship for a long time that wasn't that great to begin with, only got worse but was better than what was there before. Prior to the dictatorship, the planet was basically run mafia-style with gangs and crime cartels running the planet and exploiting people; the entire reason the dictatorship got into power was because it had the popular support of the people who didn't want to be ruled by a mafia. This also opens up the opportunity of "loyalist" factions who still believe in the ideals of the dictatorship (justice, order, stability, etc) or might even claim to be the legitims continuation of it. The reason the dictatorship fell was due to a single terrorist attack that detonated a huge chain of explosives around the capital along with random killings and accidents that left most of the executive branch dead and a whole lot of people with power without a central authority.

Of course, the Space UN sent in their own peacekeeping forces while nearby planets and systems who wanted the valuable resources of this world sent in their own expeditions. Same story with the megacorps who also have their own security teams to protect their assets and maybe "expand" a little. Something like buying up property or a resource point that was recently attacked by "unknown agents" that just so happen to kick their competitors in the nuts. The reasoning for this, the Space UN is more of a loose confederacy of planets and laze faire capitalism.

On idea I had is that these tensions had been simmering for a while now with a lot of the rebel and soon-to-be warlords hoarding their own stuff because just about everyone could see what was coming but are now acting openly. The incoming heir/dictator was a promising candidate who was one of those "once a century" miracle leaders who could do everything and everyone liked but they got killed in the attack with everyone pointing fingers at each other.

As for stats, yeah I don't want to do "hard stats" where every post you gotta do a calculation. I was thinking something more like the NS would have numbers in certain things like troop morale, equipment, popular support, etc to make the three playable faction types feel different as well as letting the events be more interesting. Do you do something that can get you a lot of resources and equipment but will loose you popular support? Or do you gain popular support but make your own troops more dissatisfied. Stuff like that. The alternative is that there is just a strengths and weaknesses list on the NS itself for people to list it out and then there's a lot of OOC talk about what happens going forward.

IMHO a more interesting idea to toy around with would to pull a Korea or Batista and just have a lot of the dictatorship-era staff be the same mafia/gang guys that were just useful enough to keep around, but basically low enough down on the totem pole to not get immediately offed. Some of them could be straight shooters who wanna work their way up in the world. Some just want some easy money and want to keep their heads down low. And of course some of them are just dicks and do stuff like make cocaine powder out of like dead children or something edgy to that degree.

The reason the dictatorship fell was due to a single terrorist attack that detonated a huge chain of explosives around the capital along with random killings and accidents that left most of the executive branch dead and a whole lot of people with power without a central authority.

Right, so this is the part where I push up my 2 inch-thick nerd glasses and go, "Well, ackshually", right? Ok...ok, cool.

*Pushes up nerd glasses*

"Well akshually Clock, you tsee tfheere would akshually be a really longf tfime where tfhe people would sthlowly collaptse, and tfthere wouldn't be a serietfs of eventfs happening so quick."

Alright, you get the point. And so do I.

The B-plot to this whole spiel is the suggestion that, of course, some of the warlords in question are perfectly fine with trading with the United World Order while others would much prefer to carve out their own empire. But this is sorta getting off topic.

As for stats, yeah I don't want to do "hard stats" where every post you gotta do a calculation. Here one sec, I gotta say it louder for the people in the back:

"FUCK STATS IN NATION RPS. LEARN SOCIOLOGY AND ENGINEERING. READ A BOOK. DON'T JUST MAKE SHIT UP AND CALL IT A 'STAT'."

Tbh i'd be perfectly fine with just making a list of traits/qualities out that people can do. If you wanna really go full game-y, you could probably come up with a full CYOA-styled chargen system (Disclaimer: May lead to infighting about balance). I'd be more concerned with people actually RPing out their flaws than just having to pick a few.

Name:
Perseus United Liberation Army (Abr. PULA)

Overview:

Overtly, the PULA is a pro-democratic, pro-separatist movement which formed as a response to the Galactic Confederation's withdrawal of troops from areas of space deemed "nonessential", much to the chagrin of many who had recently been transported to the Perseus and Outer Arms as colonists to virgin worlds. In the midst of their colonial development, the Perseus and Outer Arms largely fell prey to the whims of wild space, leaving much of its population feeling a drastic sense of betrayal from their uncaring overlord. Frustrated, ostensibly many of the colonists soon turned to alternatives, banding together under common ideals of equality, liberty, and self-determination against the perils of Wild Space.

When one looks beneath the surface, the cracks of the PULA are clear beneath the paint. In truth, the PULA is a vastly co-belligerent confederation which largely funds itself from drug barons, corsair kings, and high-profile cybercriminals. Much of PULA-controlled space is dedicated in one way, shape or form, to illegal vice trade, and by the day each vying criminal faction finds itself clashing with the democratic civilian government. Yet, the two are at a clear political impasse, as neither can afford outright antagonization of the other, so intertwined are the two economically. The civilian government is plagued by constant political infighting as many political theorists, idealists, and demagogues all argue on the way to proceed, while robber barons and snow queens compete in the galaxy's criminal underworld to see who can emerge as the most lucrative of all.

The military government is a colossal hodgepodge of forces, ranging from simple farmer militiamen to terrifyingly well-trained cybercommandos. Likewise, some officials are very politically overt, and wish nothing more than to realize the dream of an independent, democratic space union. Others are cruel, despotic overlords who rule over whatever their meagre powers insist with the fist of an iron dictator. Regardless, organization of the PULA into a truly unified coalition is a daunting task, and one that has yet to bear significant fruit.

All in all, PULA's position is far from an enviable one. If PULA can resolve its internal conflicts, organize its manifold armed forces, and reform its colonial-based economy, the PULA can truly come out as the underdog of the galactic conflict. But as it stands, many fear that the PULA will sooner rip itself apart than fall prey to the Confederation...

Resources:
The PULA is separated into several different factions, each organized under a different wing. Such factions include:
  • Perseus Civilian Government - Includes all "legitimate" political parties and theorist movements.
  • Perseus Paragovernant Movements - Includes all affiliates of the PULA which do not fall under the Civilan or Military wings; Typically, these are criminal or pirate organizations.
  • Perseus Military Government - Includes all military forces under the PULA's banner with official PULA sanctioning.

Persons of Interest:
Zakaria Alves
  • Current Premier of the PULA-C Upper Council.
  • In charge of managing all of the needs of each constituent party and representative in the Upper Council to report back to the Chancellor and the President. A firm believer in the rule of law and democratic institutions, Zakaria is perhaps an odd beacon of light amidst the tumultuous politics of the PULA. Naturally, his job is incredibly tiresome, and he's beginning to show signs of aging from the stress.

Serge Baudin-Kariyiri
  • Presiding Commander of the PULA and the Head Commissioner of the PULA-M.
  • As acting commander of all PULA forces, Serge is constantly displeased at the state of the armed forces and the nepotism within it. Understandably, he is in constant conflict with the PULA-C for additional resources and funding.

Yuri Kazinsky
  • 1st Sgt in the PULA's elite Alpha Ranger force.
  • Generally involved in all sorts of special operations. Something of a hotshot in the Alpha Rangers.

Broke Tooth Lee
  • Aquaculture mogul and a prominent member of As Hongchoes.
  • Very influential in both the civil and criminal worlds, Lee is one of the many kingpins of narcotics in PULA-controlled space. More often than not, he has access to information and power that most Representatives in the Upper Council can only dream about...

Gaiaic State of Arcadia

Location

Summary: A small slice of paradise out in far corners of the Western Reaches. The Arcadian State was the result of decades of a slow, insidious takeover of the local religion, the Gaia Church, an evolution of a now defunct Gaia-centric cult that had grew in influence on the planet over the decades, incorporating elements of Old Earth-based religions to craft their own. Now the Gaians have established a theocracy in their corner of the Western Reaches, and set their plan in motion to embark on a great crusade to enact the will of Gaia.
Resources:
The Arcadian State is separated into several dominating institutions.
  • The Central Government: The last trace of the Confederacy on Arcadia. In theory, it functions as the more secular portion of the Arcadian State, responsible for maintain the everyday functions of Arcadia, as well as law enforcement. In truth however, it it is but a shallow husk of its former self, serving the whims, and in turn, as an extension of the Gaia Church.
  • The Church of Gaia: Acting both as the State Church and the ruling Government of Arcadia. The Gaia Church main tenants is the worship of the personification of Mother Earth, Gaia, as a living Goddess.
  • The Arcadian Crusade: The combined military forces of Arcadia. The Crusade is an amalgamation of the former colonial militia and other assorted enforcers, various faithful civilian volunteers, Arcadian Xeno auxiliaries, and members of the Church's militant arm, the Order of Our Lady's Most Sincere Servicemen, or the Sincere Order as they're often referred to.

Administration:

Strengths:
Gaia Vult: The Dark Age brought about with the Confederacy's near collapse and the destruction of Earth has brought about a wave of fanaticism within the Arcadian State, leading to many very eager faithful to join the cause of the Crusade of the Western Reaches.

Blessings of Gaia: The colony of Arcadia was, and is renowned of the bioengineering research its minds have often delved to, often leading to surprising and beneficial results. Such results include Superfoods to properly feed the colonists and import to other worlds in the Confederacy, effective medical materials and the like. In these current uncertain times, the bioengineering research teams, at the request of the Church, have begun using their minds for military applications. The military Research resulting in a semi-regenerative alloy, bioengineered from the extremely dense chitin of the Northern Jade Strider, a rather large species of insect.

Eyes everywhere: As is the nature of any religion, the Church of Gaia's reach extends far beyond the Arcadian Borders, many going into the shadows, both missionaries and converts alike serving as the eyes and ears of the Church through known space.

Weaknesses:
Keep it green: The Gaia Church makes it a priority to preserve the natural serenity of Arcadia, however, that has proved as a detrimental setback to their military infrastructure, and as such, have a slower turnout capacity for military equipment.

History: History bullet points about the background of their origin and major events. You don't get credit for having five pages of history here, keep that in a hider.

Map Time!

To clarify things:

  • Blue is Sol and its currently locked down by the Confederate Guard meaning no one gets in unless they allow it. They're also the best militarily out of anyone starting out and having access to the best troops and stuff.
  • Both Yellow and Green mean that the system has at least one recognized, inhabited world that likely had a seat on the Parliament. Yellow simply means that they were an important enough word to have had a Rift Station built to make FTL faster.
  • Think of it like a highway: if the Rift Routes are highways, then they link the Yellow worlds that are cities and major urban centers while Green are things like rural areas, suburbs and smaller towns who don't have a direct link to the highway so have to go through/near a city to do so.
  • This being said, ships can jump from one system to any other system; the Rift Stations just greatly speed up the process.
  • There are three main direction, the Northern Expanse, the Southern Systems and the Western Reach. North was settled first, followed by the South and the West is currently the newest with the most new colonies and undiscovered places.
  • This is only recognized worlds so its possible that there are plenty of unmarked smuggler ports and unrecognized colonies.
  • Most people will be starting with one system unless your faction is ex-Confederate military/government. Most of the map will be filled with NPC factions once things get underway.

SHINING PATH

Shining Path, a socialist revolutionary movement, took inspiration from the Old World's revolutionary movements to protest the Stellar Confederacy. At the start of its foundation, their goal was to get the attention of the Confederate Parliament and accept the Six Demands. The first, and most important, demand called for the restoration of selected laws and bills scrapped by corporations. The second demand called for anti-monopoly and corporate tax laws to be enacted. The third called for the resignation and arrest of wealthy individuals and politicians that played a part in the transfer of powers to corporations. The fourth requested an independent committee investigate alleged brutality against protesters (and bystanders) from the police, military forces, and PMCs bought over by corporations. The fifth ordered an amnesty for arrested protesters and the sixth, and final, demand called for the abolishment of the Confederacy in favor of independence.

Unsurprisingly, their demands were avoided and resulted in a surprising attack that killed twenty-two people. Shining Path kept on protesting for months while doing whatever peaceful options were available that brought attention from the media. While in the background, several members started talking about stockpiling supplies and weaponry for a possible attack against Airwave, a drone company responsible for producing drones for the Confederacy and PMCs. Leadership knew of the matter and decided against stopping them but did condemn the idea of attacking Airwave.

Then, the news reached Frontier Post.

Earth ended in a nuclear war, bringing the Stellar Confederacy down with them. Everyone on Frontier Post was horrified and sadden by the news even the Shining Path. But, several members saw this moment as their only chance to strike while everyone was still caught off-guard. That triggered the leadership into an emergency session, where they voted whether to strike or not. Four of the two leading members voted in favor of attacking, starting with Airwave to find out if their Frontier Post headquarters secretly housed an underground factory used to produce military-grade drones for the former Confederacy.

Persons of Interest
Zhan Yijun -
Marie-Hélène Leloup -
Sadiki Saliba -
Amalia Hart -
Isabel Barceló -
Carol Morris -

Resources
Much of their supplies come in the form of donations from other protesters, anonymous sources, or supportive citizens.

Strengths

  • Hardened Protestors - Shining Path has always been fighting the hard fight since their creation. Their members had been pepper sprayed, tear gassed, and brtually beaten by counterprotesters, the authorities, and PMCs hired by corporations. Yet, that has never stopped them for protesting their demands. Those within leadership also had their fair share of scars from the protests and riots.
  • Liberation Square - Known as Elliot Square by the locals, Liberation Square is planned to become the starting grounds of the resistance due to its strategic location. It's close to the several high-rising buildings that overlook the downtown district. And in addition, the Airwave headquarters is next to the square and gives the Shining Path a chance to storm the building.
  • Blinding Light - A secret weapon that has been worked on for months by Amalia in her armory.

Weaknesses

  • Frontier Post - The first trading post established when humanity ventured out beyond the Solar System. Frontier Post was their first attempt at establishing a colony far away from Earth and it worked. Eventually, it became the most populated megacity in the Confederacy making them influential within the political and corporate world. Despite the Confederate being wiped out and several major corporations hurt economically, their presence is still stronger than anywhere else within the galaxy—that also includes their military.
  • Vilified - The media in Frontier Post was already brought out by corporations with right-leaning biases. It should come as no surprise that they are going to vilify the Shining Path even more as the liberation movement begins. That's why Pandora's Lantern has been established: to fight back against any false information about them.
  • Surrounded on All Sides - Once the resistance begins, there's no doubt in mind that the military will respond accordingly. It would depend on the strength that the movement manages to gain during the confusion especially if the Airwave is successfully occupied. Otherwise, the might of the former Confederacy military are more than ready to take on resistance fighters.

The Republic of Prabog

Alternative name

The National Reconstruction Government of Prabog

Summary/overview

Prabog was once a prosperous world in the times of the confederation the first daughters of earth some called it a heavy industrial and technological world marked by its output and technological marvels thanks to its amazing minds philosophers and many others it wasn't made to last

In the times of troubles of the confederation Prabog was thrown into anarchy initiated by a nuclear first strike who did it why is still a mystery this lead to a age of blood and war a time of warlords lasting for nearly a decade and a half ended by Alexander who forged the republic in his 30´s and launched a final war unifying half of the planet before dying arising to the position of hero and guardian of the nation

After finishing the unification the republic now faces its greatest challenge rebuilding what was left by the events of the past but where some may simply settle and wait for better times, hope is now back on people's hearts as now the nation and its people wish to not only rebuild their homes but every world and reunite with mankind under a single flag

As of right now the economy still lies in ruins and the politics grew divise due to the aim of ambitions and priorities in politics while the situation has been stabilized the armies now aid in the reconstruction of the cities and states something new compared to the times before where they just fought warlords this is now relied to pacification of regions that still are hold by rebels.

Resources

The planet of Prabog
is the world and capital of the republic while much of its natural beauty was destroyed many returned but many of its scars are still seeneble from space a world with nuclear craters radiation areas and ruins that can be seen from space.
Population: 6,4 billion

Military forces:
WIP

Strengths/Weaknesses

Strengths

  • Sons of Alexander - The army being forged by a great man would be a understatement the armies of the republic of Prabog are very war experienced due to the past of the republic made much better by the hands of Alexander the man who made the republic the people also hold a high resilience mainly due to the conflicts that the planet itself endured.
  • Technological and Industrial Potential - While Prabog was devastated many ruins can be restored and the former glory of the planet put again ontop making Prabog while week hold a great potential to be a giant of economy once again like in times past but for now the world lies in ruins
  • A dream larger than us - Even though the republic was brought up from ruins its ideals of freedom equality for all of mankind as spoken by Alexander still sing across the planet something that now came to symbolise what they wish to move beyond not to just end chaos in this world but end it in the stars where mankind as well might be oppressed as a solene duty to spread liberty and unite mankind under a flag that will bring prosperity to all.

Weaknesses

  • Devastated world - a limited Nuclear exchange and ten years of warlords and war can do a number at infrastructure and economy therefore more than 60% of the planet is in ruins leaving zones of radiation in several areas that still need to be cleared up

    Devastation level is currently high
  • Rather inefficient economy - Due to the collapsed economy of the planet something showed by how bartering it is still a main form of use by the people thanks in part to the nations coin being virtually useless in the field of economics is in desperate need of reforms.

The coin of the nation is mainly useless at the moment thanks in part to an initial mass printing and making of then in an attempt to aid in the stabilization through the creation of a universal coin instead it became useless.

A lack of reforms or an address of said issue can lead to severe consequences and possibly a dark age for many.
  • Divided Government - While united in communalities and ideals many of the leaders still need to grasp unity and work together especially since the parties were forged by different ideas some by artists who lived isolated from the conflict, others by scientists who survived the chaos, some by politicians from the few regions who didn't faced too much warlord damage, others by nationalists who gained a renewed sense of nationalism under mankind and some by the Order who were the original party of Alexander while conservative in name they literally aim to maintain peace and order

As of right now politics are partially divise

Administration

The Government of Prabog

The Republic itself and its administration is ruled as of the moment the congress and senate who legislate debate and others with the judicial maintaining the rule of the constitution the government is led by a five party system the leadership of the whole republic befalls the president of the republic a system of government that only works based on coalition governments of two or more parties to form a majority.

hello I've been watching this thread because it seems super interesting.

I will now bully DX3214 for his unforgivably persistent use of run-on sentences.

I remember specifically talking him about reading what he wrote out loud a year or two ago, but now I can only hear him speaking with extreme quickness in his Brazilian accent unable to realize that it does not sound natural.

Just to be crystal clear, I love you DX, and I hope this thread goes super far because there's a ton of potential here, some AMAZING writers, and I want to help you improve your faction and your writing so I hope this is helpful!

Please do not mind my snarky emoticons, I am merely expressing myself.

  • Hardened Protestors - Shining Path has always been fighting the hard fight since their creation. Its members had been pepper-sprayed, tear-gassed, and brutally beaten by counterprotesters, the authorities, and PMCs hired by corporations. Yet, that has never stopped them from protesting their demands.
And in addition, the Airwave headquarters is next to the square, along with a police station.
  • Blinding Light - A secret weapon that has been worked on for months by Amalia in her armory. It was a powerful flashbang and thermite capable of melting thought metals while blinding anyone nearby.

Weaknesses

  • Frontier Post - The first trading post was established when humanity ventured out beyond the Solar System. Frontier Post was their first attempt at establishing a colony far away from Earth, and it worked. Eventually, it became the most populated megacity in the Confederacy, making them influential within the political and corporate world. Despite the Confederate being wiped out and several major corporations hurt economically, their presence is still stronger than anywhere else within the galaxy, including their military.
  • Vilified - Corporations already brought out the media in Frontier Post with right-leaning biases.
It would depend on the strength that the movement manages to gain during the confusion, primarily if the Airwave is successfully occupied. Otherwise, the might of the former Confederacy military are more than ready to take on resistance fighters.

Universal Union

Strengths

Overwatch - Overwatch, commonly also called Dispatch, refers to the central self-aware A.I that manages the military and police apparatus. It is a highly effective and brutal machine. Everyone, down to the citizens and as high as the CmB itself, fears Overwatch and its commands. Overwatch prides pure efficiency and its execution of operations are highly smooth compared to other entities. The whole CmB oversees Overwatch to ensure that nothing is amiss.

Civil Protection - Civil Protection, CP, is the police force responsible for the civil order within mass-urban centers. Their job is not to protect citizens but to enforce the will of the state and to protect the soci-stability of the area. Overwatch directly commands and controls Civil Protection. This police force is highly effective at its job of suppressing the people, guaranteeing law and order, and ensures that no-one steps out of order.

Bureau of Enlightenment - The Bureau of Enlightenment, BOE for shorthand, is the media and censorship arm of the Union. The BOE has the task of ensuring that unauthorized media, news, and info do not enter into the Universal Union. The bureau also produces plenty of pro-Union and pro-CmB propaganda for the masses to “enjoy.”

Weaknesses

Who are the Real Benefactors? - CmB, translated as “Our Benefactors,” refers to the all-powerful six-person committee in the Universal Union. In propaganda, the plural version is always used, with the singular-noun, “Our Benefactor,” never-ever utilized. This is done to portray a united and strong leadership. In reality, every single person in the central committee seeks to be either the “One True Benefactor,” and or replace the committee with “Real Benefactors” that are truly loyal to the Union. The power struggle amongst these power-hungry and ambitious people have caused plenty of issues for the UU, and it seems that this friction has no end in sight until someone is truly satisfied.

We are Born - The Risen, also known as We Are Born, is a resistance movement that seeks to undo the chains of oppression set upon by the CmB. Even in tightly controlled areas, We are Born can seem to operate everywhere. The Risen sees this conflict against the Union as a war for humanity, and the operations that these revolutionaries have done can, in most cases proved, to be highly damaging to Union functions. The hopes and dreams of a better society for the masses cannot be easily extinguished.

The Loyalist - The majority of the population are either apathetic, distrusting of the government, or secretly a-part of We are Born. In order to ID those who are loyal from those who are not, a loyalist system has been installed. At the very bottom is the Supporter Grade 1 and it goes up to Supporter Grade 3. From there - if you are proved to be a true loyalist - you can get the rank of Collaborator Grade 1 and gain entry into the Lower Party, and the system goes on and on. As you can imagine, only a small percentage of people are loyalists.
