I'll be going back and editing the Skaven sheet this weekend if that helps. I basically just got a canon sheet ready so I can know, and have ready, what I'll be doing an alternate take of. I'm not sure what changes I'll be making just yet, thus how alternative it will really be, but certainly new characters. Going to try to make them more eldritch, more Lovecrafty if nothing else. I think I'll also have a Skaven military leader with a new clan, something like a Skaven version of Caesar with Skaven Roman Legionnaires under him.

Hell if you look at my sheet I don't even have images/descriptions of 90% of my units.

I've got to say though aren't alternate takes generally more interesting when a decent proportion of stuff is the same or very similar? What If scenarios in a familiar world are only really What If scenarios in a familiar world if that familiar world is still familiar.

Looking at what Aristo has to say, it occurs to me that perhaps I've been approaching the Ogre Kingdoms in an over-literal fashion. So, there will probably be changes to that in the near future, though I need to figure out what changes exactly first.

<Snipped quote by Willy Vereb>
It would be different if the factions were played with, or turned upside-down. Say, a Sylvania where the ruling aristocracy are werewolves instead of vampires. Maybe an Empire where halflings are the norm, and average humans are the minority. Heck, even name swaps, new heroes and characters would go a long way.

Ahh! Senpai noticed me!

I happen to work at a hospital. Its not a bad job it you don't mind helping people or having little free time. This website is blocked on the network, and I can only write in my spare time at home, assuming I have time to spend on my writing. My CS is a work in progress, which I only offered up because I'm aware RPs on this site moves much faster than most RPs I spend my time on. I'll admit I more or less opened myself to that criticism before I've detailed my own ideas for Sylvania. And mentioning five new characters, a new artifact that turns zombies into Deadites, and a mention of the region becoming industrialized isn't a complete revamp. That being said, I did mention it was not yet finished.

Thank you for your input however. Honesty is appreciated.

@BCTheEntity Looks good, you can move em over.

@POOHEAD189 Beautiful as always,, you're good too!

@wxps350 Yup the elves can move into Chars

@Madrigal I'd like to request that you change the name of your leader since in the OP I did say "no having Karl Franz lead the Empire" which extends to other races as well. Also, please do remove the mentions of Sigmar and other stuff such as that since to my knowledge there are no Sigmar worshipers in any nation of this RP.

@BangoSkank Skaven also got stuff under most major cities like the empire alone I can think up of Altdorf, Nuln, Marianburg and Middenhiem. Whats preventing full scale invasion most of the time is that the Skaven are too busy fighting among themselves and there's also an unspoken truth where the Empire's leadership refuses to acknowledge the existence of the Skaven hives under the cities since they fear the masses will panic while the Skaven believe themselves to be truly unknown to the world above and often assassinate anyone who speaks of them publicly.

All of those things you mentioned are perfectly feasible and acceptable provided they're well written, apologies if the OP or what I said previously didn't say that. And I did mention that I would heavily prefer to see name changes and new characters for certain.

@ClocktowerEchos Oh. I mean, I guess if you're cool with it, only I figured a bit more differentiation might be most fun. Oh well.

@BCTheEntity Again, I'm okay if you more or less use an existing faction, put a twist on a canon one or make up an entirely new one. My only request is that you don't use canon names so no Karl Franz of the Empire or Greasus Goldtooth of the Ogre Kingdoms and such. You're free to diversify as much as you want. Do I encourage it? Yes. Is it mandatory? No since it saves time on the NS creation.

I didn't intend to antagonize anyone with my comments; sorry if it came across that way. Just wanted to encourage a little shake-up of the setting. I'm still on the fence about the RP, but I'll keep an eye on it.

Wanted to extend an apology if I came across as hostile as well. Typed words tend to have a hard time expressing sentiments. I'm finding Skaven really fascinating but fundamentally revolting. Having a good time trying to decide how to alter them without ruining the lore that I'm really quite enamored with at this point.

I'm working on my Skaven sheet now, does anyone mind if I allude to a defeated human army from times long past? I was thinking about how to do my Skaven Legionnaire clan and decided that the best approach might be to say that they fought a long war against them in times long past, and having suffered enormous losses against comparatively small numbers they adopted some of the techniques. Skaven have little to no written history, so even they themselves will have forgotten most of what they once knew of these people.

In order not to sort of ruin what makes Skaven Skaven they won't always be able to hold the discipline that's quite important for such tactics to work. So the Skaven pikemen who are supposed to be forming an impenetrable wall of pointy death may well end up giving in to bloodlust and just dashing in. I'm thinking perhaps they're particularly susceptible to the chanting and fervor of Clan Pestilens, making it hard for the two to work together.

We could perhaps use this map, to claim shit and to update on who has what territory and all?

Anyway, I think I have enough "unique" units to make my thing original and not exactly an Empire rip-off, I just need to fill in some of the Lords' descriptions but otherwise I am done and will post up soon.

Any suggestion on how I, as the Skaven, claim land?

Most of my stuff is under other people's stuff and it's spread all over the world, but I was thinking I might take a bit as my own. Balance is my worry because in Warhammer they are everywhere, and its kind of an important part of who they are, but I don't really want them to be or appear to be OP. Facing huge casualties is also an important part of who they are maybe the most important part.

I'm thinking perhaps in The Badlands amid the World's Edge Mountains, near The City of Pillars/Karak Eight Peaks and Karak Azgal as well as Crookback Mountain to the North East. It's also prime Orc and Goblin territory though, once Dwarfen territory.

Basically a chunk of the sort of Mid-Tone Green just to the South of the Border Princes. Karak Eight Peaks, Karak Azgal, Karak Azul (maybe not this part but I wanted to join 8 Peaks and Azgal), and Broken Axe Goblins (closest to Crookback Mountain) on the map from Page One.

Will do. I must have missed that part in my excitement. A bit of a pity, I was looking forward to seeing Mannfred's attitude contrasted to Gautselin's, but I don't want to impose. Now to craft a new name for a powerful yet neophyte vampire lord. Perhaps a corruption of Dracula's name...

@BangoSkank

Perhaps there is some underground disruption, forcing the Skaven to abandon their Under-Empire and settle on the surface somewhere, similar to the backstory of the Dwarves? A volcanic eruption/earthquake, a civil war, or you could go with the 'Nurgle is the Horned Rat' theory and go with an invasion of Chaos Demons, which drives the Skaven closer to the surface. That might also explain why the four clans of Skaven might be more interested in cooperating, and have to give up their more filthy horde-based tactics. Because suddenly every Skaven might not be replacable, and if they do not work together they might be destroyed by the other races. Or maybe one of the clans simple decides to press back against a nation like Estalia or Tilea--or as you yourself said, the Dwarves--and makes their cities a base of operations.

Updating my app. I've clarified my custom units, added a couple, and made alterations to existing ones. Added a Religion tab, improved the theme and corrected various misconceptions and mistakes within. I'm hoping to go into detail about each character and general lore involving the group in the next few days.

@BangoSkank No, please, feel free to have a few Skaven troops in the Mountains of Mourn. I'm informed that ogres love the taste of rat meat... but yeah, what Madrigal said works well enough.

BTW do you start where the canonical Ogre Kingdom was?
IIRC that's further than the Dark Lands so my faction might be the most frequent contact you get.

Also since I pick Dark Lands I wonder what culture my human population would get.
Kazars? Russ?
It's basically the territory past the equivalent of the IRL Ural Mountains.

@Willy Vereb T'was the plan, though given how I've written them up, the Ogre Kingdoms are moving to engage in conquest on a pretty widespread scale, so your contact with them is likely to be... combative, at best.

Well, after tinkering about a bit with various ideas, think I'll go with something of a Norscan nation that has held out against the corruption of Chaos.

If that's all good.

Maybe we can have a rumble in the jungle in the Mountains of Mourn. Ogres vs Rat Ogres. Winner eats the loser.

@BangoSkank That is, in fact, entirely plausible. Alternatively, Radzmus will eventually incorporate the Rat Ogres into his army of beastly creatures. Y'know, like what a pragmatic douchebag does.

Actually I feel it would be boring if you spend most of your time fighting me.
Rather I leave a strip of land which your Ogres can conquer and we could be relative friends. This way you can trade with me thus get in contact with the rest of the world, send mercs to places you normally wouldn't reach and so on.
Much more healthy in the RP sense.
