Submitted for the approval of the Midnight Society...

________________________________

Name: James Barr

Alias:

Age: 26

Personality: trustworthy, intelligent, boy-scout, selfless, mannerly

Archetype: Metahuman/Gadgeteer

Powers:

* Heightened physical attributes - augmented strength and speed [max lift 10,000 pounds (a small car), max speed 75 mph on foot 2,500 feet per second (around 1,700 mph) in the air.

* Heightened mental attributes - photographic memory, strategical and mathematical thinker

* Flight helmet - Nth metal alloy that allows James to fly.

* Nth metal - Nth metal buttons on his gloves help James project a field that can stop any projectile Matrix-style. Something of a personal sized tk field. They also aid him in flying stability.

Weaknesses:

* Concentration is required to use Nth metal for flight, take his mind off the game and he's out of the air.

* If he doesn't concentrate and have a field up, larger arms fire and energy attacks can hurt him.

* Still affected by vision, gas, mental, and biological attacks.

Appearance:

]

Character Evolution: He's a small town guy trying to just get out there more and experience as much as he can.

BRIEF Bio:

James was born and raised in Fawcett and his father was a police officer. Responding to a call his father was killed one night when James was twelve and it changed his life forever. He decided he wanted to be a cop like his dad and honor his memory. However, James wasn't the most athletic guy in the world and stuck more to CSI type work. While experimenting with some chemicals that he thought were going to create a 'truth serum' to gain info out of anyone, what he'd actually stumbled upon was something of a super-steroid for his body AND mind.

After his base powers were discovered he modeled himself a superhero alter ego after an ally of Superman in an 80's cartoon, the Bulletman. He managed to scavenge some Nth metal debris the last time Thanagarians attacked Earth and fashioned an anti gravity helmet for flight as well as Nth metal buttons on his gloves that help produce the protective field and stabilize his flying.

Taking the name the Bulleteer, James began cleaning up the riff raff in the bad neighborhoods of Fawcett alongside other heroes before being approached by the Justice League.

Notes:

* Never understood how the super serum game him so much intelligence to craft an anti-gravity helmet, so I made it Nth metal to make it a little easier for him. His heightened brain power comes in the form of a photographic memory and more strategic and mathematical thinking.

* Obviously there are ties to both Capt. Marvel [Shazam] and Hawkman. If I need to I can tweak those bits. However it should be noted the classic Bulletman was the 2nd most popular Fawcett Comics character behind Capt, Marvel so I kinda still want him to be from the town of Fawcett.

Sample Post:

It was just another day at the office. James was the CSI on first shift from seven in the morning till around three in the afternoon. His relief was a man name Dexter with red hair, a short stature, and glasses. With only a few months of being a superhero, James always spent every minute he could in the air perfecting his aerial maneuvers. As the clock on the wall hit 3 Barr was already getting his things ready to walk out the door. On his way out of the police department he saw his older co-worker Detective Kent as well as his daughter Susan. Susan was around the same age as James and he greeted them both.

"Kent... there's no way that's your girlfriend..." James said with a laugh and a grin.

"Watch it kid, this is my daughter. She's studying forensics at Fawcett U. and will probably take your job in another six months!" Kent replied with a laugh of his own that was much different and more of a whole body laugh.

The girl blushed and James grinned and his dimples were showing in his cheeks.

"It's nice meeting you. Don't let this guy get you into any trouble..." he continued shaking her hand before leaving.

Moments later....

Barr was suited up. He strapped his helmet on and took to the skies and practiced his moves. As the Bulleteer he flew the fastest with his hands and arms extended above his head, and to go left or right he simply had to make a ninety degree angle with his arms and put one out to the side while the other remained over his head. It was a good day for flying. That was until his JLU communicator went off in his pants pocket.

"League Unlimited members report to the Metro Tower in Metropolis. We have a situation. Teleporters will be online and operational for the next ten minutes. Batman out." said a grizzled voice over the pager.

Lucky for James, there was a teleporter hidden in a greenhouse on the roof of a Wayne Foundation building on the outskirts of town. The Wayne Foundation worked much like the Salvation Army and had several branches in the north eastern region of the Unites States. Whereas Wayne Industries had several manufacturing plants across the 'States that made everything from pharmaceutical supplies, car parts, extreme sporting equipment, as well as three different ammunition plants for the US military and law enforcement.

I'll have my guy up and finished after work. The amount of obligation-free time I've had of late is at an all-time low. <_<;

I'm trying to think of who would have helped out my character than eventually brought him into the league. Which of the three would be particularly sympathetic to a criminal who just got in over his head as a kid and couldn't get out. Or perhaps it could be some other established hero who simply wasn't interested in becoming part of the league but encouraged my guy to join.

If he's okay with corporate sponsorship then my character could help him get into the league lol

If I add a second character. I am thinking it should be a normal human, like Batman but without the PTSD and survivor's guilt, the dude has some serious fucking issues. He really needs a psychiatrist/psychologist bad.

Anyone know what the difference between a psychiatrist & psychologist is?

Psychiatrist gives you drugs. Psychologist talks to you.
That's a gross oversimplification but honestly he could probably benefit from both.

What he said.

@Prints Avoid

A psychiatrist is an actual doctor with years of med-school under his belt, a psychologist does councilling and helps you sort out your feelings (Or, in the days of Freud, how everything that's wrong with you is because you secretly want to pork your mom).

One of these is considered a credible field, the other is considered to be run by a bunch of crackpot snake oil salesmen.

EDIT: Aaaand, I'm just now realizing that my guy's gonna probably be the only one in the game with an at least semi-functioning family.

Gonna get some mileage outta this one.

@Sir Lurksalot - the Rookie --- [needs finished]
@Simple Unicycle - the Question --- ACCEPTED
@Experiment 249 - Judgement --- ACCEPTED
@Pathfinder - Rust --- [needs Sample Post] PRE APPROVED
@WXer - Polarity Man --- ACCEPTED
@Burning Kitty - Power Woman --- ACCEPTED
@rocketrobie2 - Cyborg --- [needs finished]
[Member 00492] - Bulleteer --- ACCEPTED

So far the cast is still looking pretty good. I'm kind of surprised nobody has taken a stab at using a version of Wonder Woman or remade the Flash.

[@Sir Lurksalot - The Rookie running the gauntlet of Batman is cool but IDK if I'd want Bizarro to be cannon yet as I've got something of an arc planned with super-clones. Parasite, Shrapnel, Metallo, Atomic Skull, etc... use one of those guys to beat him up LOL.

I'll be working on the OOC tonight and tomorrow so watch for it. I'll post a link here.

We're still accepting players for this. The ideal number of players would be between 12-15 at the least... Originals, reimagined cannons, as well as slightly altered cannons are welcome!

Don't know who you've been talking to. They're both credible and both have their applications. A psychologist is often a PhD. There's gonna be variation in both. I'd sooner work with a psychologist who will actually listen and help me work through something than a psychiatrist who will just write me up a prescription for expensive meds and send me on my way. Ideally you'd have a good psychiatrist and a good psychologist.

On topic though...
My CS is coming along. Hope to have something rough done tonight. I'll post it for some commentary and then fix up whatever's necessary.

Maybe just get a little weed into his system.

They should just merge the professions, they are only half a profession anyway. Damn charlatans.

Probably my sister's influence. Bit hard to avoid the topic when you run into a psychiatrist every Christmas and thanksgiving, both times being when she's also explicitly guaranteed to be completely shitfaced and angry. XD

I've always heard people call them quacks. It's a popular trope in television as well.

@Member 00492As someone in the field I blame media for that portrayal, not that it can't be helped since the most interesting stories are usually the extremes anyhow.

Sorry for the delay on the CS, i'm back at work and things are on the back burner since they have me presenting to high school students.

@Burning KittyI agree they should probably mix it or at least make the difference between the two much more distinct.

@Member 00492 With the Metal event starting soon, I'm glad we'll have Nth metal as part of Bulleteer's backstory. Specially since they seem to be retconning a lot of important items from the multiverse to have been made from it.
