Not with that attitude. Don’t let your past actions get to you, make yourself better. We all do thing we dislike, you are not the only one Shinji. Its how we continue on and take a step forward that matters.

... It's far more complicated than you think. Its not just this event thats got me like this. Theres so much terror and death and shock that has done this damage to me. I most likely won't fully recover.

Then heres my advice.

Struggle as best you can against what's mentally weighing you down, claw your way through every obstacle, and dominate what footholds you can grasp as you work your way to a strong sense of self. You don't have to have greatest self confidence or the biggest ego to get back up. All you need is the willpower to persevere towards who you want to be, and the insight to keep an eye on yourself even when you stumble. Eventually you'll find your own answers and learn to build a solid but humble foundation of who you are and where you want to go.
It will be hell and back, but the progress you make will be yours.
