By a dark god, I mean a malevolent deity of destruction. Power levels like one of us (or maybe between us and the bigshots). Domain: Destruction, Portfolio: Fire. When you said 'I'm assuming that many worlds had sapient life in the old universe' and the 'protector god of said world got bored...' do you mean 'planet' when you say world?

That doesn't make any sense IC though. The only people that would ever agree to let him rule are those who already aren't going to mess up creation (and hence don't need ruling), while those who would need ruling to not mess stuff up aren't going to support him (obviously). You would need to fight them, but that doesn't need anyone to rule. And once you won, you'd need no one to keep the universe safe 'cause it'd keep itself. There's no actual reason to support a monarchy of any form, for the gods.

Also, @Rtron, I should point out that when you corrupt the Holy Wisps, you cut off their connection to the Orb of Escry, this removing them from the hive mind. Without something to link together your Chaos Wisps (that's what I'm gonna call them) like how the Orb of Escry does, they're going to aimlessly wander around the world by themselves and die pretty easily if they get attacked. Imagine an ant separated from its colony. That's basically what they are now, unless the corruption has somehow increased their intelligence or something. You could also make a new host mind, or use Vestec's mind to do it, but I'd imagine that the latter would be annoying even for a god to manage.

Of course, Niciel could always just go out and purify the Chaos Wisps back into Holy Wisps, thereby making this entire explanation completely unnecessary.

I think authority would be useful to stop gods from accidentally lulz random nuking Galbar, or any other planet. The idea of 'do as you will' with the ability to destroy anything at your finger tips just doesn't cut it; moderation is key if you want to ensure the longevity of anything.
