Hiya, AChronum here! Although I'm relatively new to rping, I have plenty of writing experience and love trying new genres and styles. I absolutely love high magic fantasy RPs and am pretty much willing to do anything so long as I can create a charaxter, not play an existing one, and develop lots and lots of backstory! I'm perfectly comfortable with all mature themes as well, although smut for smut's sake is out of the question.

Okay! So I kinda pushed us forward since it seems we are all in agreement about our plan. So if everyone is okay with it I'm going to ask for a time skip to tomorrow morning now? Also if you want to do the guard duty quest this evening, I believe there will be time since it should only be about 7 or so and it takes 6 hours. Double check with @Hueman on that though.
Kajin held mixed feelings on the general reaction to the party. The overwhelming optimism was infectious and everyone seemed willing to risk limb and life for the cause. Which made wonderfully easy decision making but with ease came recklessness. Thankfully, Dub seemed to share his hesitations but the group overall wanted to charge forward, not a bad plan but not one with enough thought yet. Dub's strategy for tackling the dungeon helped with that. Reducing their over all passive threat index was a good idea and his separation increment was just close enough to keep the mages able to help. Kajin grinned.
"Since Dub's plan is sound, lets settle this discussion. Tomorrow morning, around 9, we'll head out towards the Hill's Sorrow. Before entering, we'll decide on the composition of the two parties and from there a leader for each in order to streamline contact." Kajin glanced around the room before settling on the man who had nearly rivaled Dirk in embarrassing grandstanding, "And to your idea about forming a Guild... Lets test this out first. No point rushing into a Guild if we all end up hating each other after!" With that, Kajin stood and stretched.
"Lets get some rest then. Tomorrow, we'll meet here at nine, party up, and head out. We'll see what the game really has in store for us, hm?" Kajin waved to the new people and whispered a quick good night to both Dirk and Aster before ducking out. As retired for the evening, he felt the tension slip back into him and he sighed. He had a long night ahead of him.
"Okay cool!" Skyler grinned as he held up the Cave of Novices quest. "How about this one? We go to a cave and hunt down a wedding ring all while trying to find this "Terror" the woman mentioned. I also have a bullying one but it seems you'd be more interested in this one, yeah?" Skyler held that one up as well for Ysran to inspect. Once he picked, they'd be on their way. Skyler practically buzzed with excitement. This was going to be so cool!
"Well looks like you're out of luck on that nap friend." Skyler chuckled and stood. A wave of relief washed over him as they were allowed to roam outside. The room was starting to get too stuffy for comfort. He watched as his... peers- 'Was that the right word? Eh, it'll do I guess.'- rushed the info board. He decided to enjoy the stroll, examining the village and its surroundings. Quaint and quiet. Just how he liked it. Maybe once things started to settle down, he could come back and make this something like a home...
He shook his head. That as far too far off in the future and there were plenty of things to handle in the here and now. He stopped in front of the mission board. Two immediately caught his eye. Bully Issue hit a personal spot for him. He snagged it off the board and tucked it away in his bag. There was probably another side to the story but he'd deal with it after his teammate decided if he wanted to join. He also grabbed Cave of Novice. A mystery hm? The quest piqued his interest. Plus, his partner would probably approve. He seemed the kind of person that enjoyed the horror genre in life. So he fluttered back excitedly to... Skyler blinked as he realized he never gave his name.
"Well, I think I might have found a few things to get us started! But firstly, whats your name?" Skyler asked as he settled back down in front of him, laying out the two quest notices.
"We were the first to act, but we won't be the only ones. I for one want to use what time is remaining tonight to search the city for NPC teachers. As for tomorrow, I believe we'll need to move farther than wild boars. Has anyone bought a map? Ah, thank you. So, here is the flower garden for the runner quest. Timid players are going to grab that in the hopes they can level without risking their lives. The boars are here, and I expect most players to go there to learn how to survive. So I would propose we go this way. It's marked as a dungeon, and if we're in a group this size I believe we can clear this first dungeon. Unless a new quest appears guiding us a different way, that's my suggestion."
Kajin found himself agreeing with Alisea. Based on the amount of XP earned through the quest, leveling was on a much smaller scale than a traditional RPG. Games traditionally handed out experience in hundreds or thousands even early on so the fact that the first quest only handed out 10 xp without the bonus suggested monsters could be defeated at lower levels than other games. He couldn’t confirm that without testing a dungeon however. Still, it was worth poking their noses into one after all. Worst comes to worst, they could flee if the challenges were too much. Though, his original question remained mostly unanswered.
“Perhaps we should slow down on the planning and decide if we want to come together or play separately.” Kajin leaned forward, his face serious. “We have very real risks and, in my opinion, a larger group means fewer risks. It takes more work and more planning true but the more eyes on your back, the less knives end up in it as a friend of mine liked to tell me. As the most motivated players right now, we should keep in touch to at least handle bigger challenges like dungeons together even if we handle day to day in our own little groups.” Kajin glanced around at them. He knew Dirk and probably Aster would be okay sticking together and Alisea seemed game as well but the rest seemed to have some doubts about traversing outside what they had found on their own. A fair fear. Overextending yourself right now was probably a poor decision but Kajin felt much more comfortable having more people around.
"Dub has a very good point, fighting a Boss at this level no matter our numbers will just get us all killed. We can't afford to be reckless. What we can do with our numbers is scout the dungeon and find where the boss is located."
Kajin started responding just as the guy dashed out the door. Alrighty then. Guess they would have to talk later, if they met again at least. He turned his attention to the man he’d been speaking to. Dub the other man had called him. He looked a little wary as he eyed the table but Kajin shrugged it off. Again, fair. He sent him a friend request.
“I think our plan is to clear the open quests here and then poke around a dungeon to see how it scales with the area. No other way to know than leap, you know?” He smiled warmly at the man before sending him a friend request. “This way you can contact us if you want to try your hand at something a little harder later. Plus, the more people in the party the better chance of us defeating it!” His face suddenly turned red as he realized he hadn’t ask his team for input and was just making decisions on his own. He turned around apologetically.
“Sorry, I’m getting ahead of myself! I just saw people and took the opportunity. What do you guys think? Of clearing all the quests then looking at the dungeons I mean.” He asked apologetically. “I was also considering adding Alisea to the group, if she was okay with it that is.”
The city’s atmosphere remained heavy and broken when they returned. Only now a hushed scuffling replaced the wailing of scared players, the sound of people still unable to accept their fate drifting aimlessly. The knot in the pit of Kajin’s stomach tighten painfully again and he forced himself to let out the breath he inadvertently held. Outside of the dread that permeated Genesis, Kajin managed to work some of the anxiety out of his system. They succeeded in completing the quest, handling it at a steady and safe pace while they got a hang of the system. Or at least while he adjusted. Dirk seemed to step into his role without a moment of hesitation and Aster, despite claiming inexperience, seemed right at home slaying the beasts. Even he, after a few trigger happy heals – ‘Stupid, what a waste. You know better.’ he chastised himself-, stopped shaking at all and relaxed a bit. With the action and spell system as streamlined as it was, maintaining his view of the party and the field was relatively easy. He managed to loosen the worry building up inside him quite a bit. But the city brought it all back.
Outisde during the quest, Kajin focused on monitoring the surrounding area after the initial pull. Warning Aster and Dirk as other boars strayed too close, his main goal was checking for possible area boss spawns. Some games triggered major enemies to punish players that were over killing or stall higher level players from killing things meant for new players. Kajin wasn’t sure if that happened here but he wasn’t going to discredit the possibility until he knew for sure. With that in mind, he was rather jumpy for the majority of the fight, sticking close to Dirk when he thought he noticed something.
Instead of what he expected, he found something much more exciting. Other players. Other people who had escaped the suffocating atmosphere of the city and decided to move forward despite the constant threat of death hanging above them. They seemed much more aggressive than his plan, reckless honestly, but they held their own with ease. He smiled as they took on their own quarries and he turned his attention back to his team. The creatures were relatively low leveled so it didn’t take much time to deal with them thankfully. Though his over eager healing did cost him all of his mana at the end. That was something he’d have to work on.
“What do you say we pack it up for the evening? I could really use something to eat! Plus, I may be out of mana…” Kajin smiled sheepishly, “A tad trigger happy I guess.” Thankfully, Dirk and Aster agreed and they slipped back into Genesis. Dread worked its way back into Kajin and the slight trembling started up again. These were just level one enemies. They were easy. Everything else was going to be a hundred times more difficult. There was no way they were going to escape unharmed. It just wasn’t possible. No way they were making it out-
‘I just need to keep busy. That’s all.’ Kajin thought to himself as he accepted the quest rewards. ‘I can go make myself some new clothes and pick up a first aid kit then have a meal and a bath. That sounds like a plan.’ Promising to meet up for dinner in a small inn, he slipped away from them to give himself some time alone and made his purchases. Minus the first aid kit. 100 ren for a first aid kit? It would have cost everything he had. As much as he wanted it, food was a priority so he looked at it longingly before instead purchasing an extra piece of cloth for Aster’s armor. She probably wouldn’t have enough to buy armor after this quest so he would give her something for now. Plus it would help with his tailoring skill so it was a win-win situation. He headed back to Dirk and Aster and happily ordered Fish and Chips and water, tacked on a room for a night and a bath later, and stared at the Renn display in his inventory. 17 Renn for the night. Kajin let out a low whistle.
“We need to find a source of income other than quests if we want to actually do more than just survive here.” He muttered to Aster and Dirk. “This stuff is expensive. Hopefully dungeons generate a ton more Renn.” He tore through his food. It tasted just like the real world. Even the quiet depression that suffocating the tavern failed to steal away the comforting pleasure food provided. He finished quickly and, despite wanting another plate, decided his pockets wouldn’t appreciate that very much. So instead he pulled out the cloth and his sewing kit and started working on Aster’s armor.
“You know guys although we’re in a death trap and probably condemned to dying, this place still takes my breath away. The realism of the food, the NPCs, and everything else is astounding!” He slid the cloth onto the small hoop and started passing the needle back and forth through it. After ten passes, it shone brightly for a few moments before forming into a plain black shirt and pants, with thicker areas over vital areas. He inspected it before it vanished into his inventory.
“Alrighty Aster, here is a little something. Not much but like I said better than nothing.” He opened a trade request, “I’d try my hand at leather armor but I’m not quite sure I have the level for it honestly.” A group entered the tavern. Unlike the rest of the players, these people seemed… wait. Kajin recognized them immediately. They were out on the boar quest as well! With a larger party they could head out to dungeons quicker than just the three of them! He called them over and started to introduce Dirk, Aster, and himself. Thankfully, they seemed rather willing to interact with their smaller party.
“So everybody now that introductions are done, what is everyone’s opinion on our situation? And how are you all planning on moving forward since we seem to be the only people willing to do anything in the face of this insanity?” Kajin posed the question as he picked his sewing kit back up and started working on a nicer set of clothing for himself. With the level up, he placed points in art to see if he could start adding decorative trims to the clothing.
@HueMan I suggest bumping it up to 72 hours. Although I don't mind the 48 hour rule, perhaps it'll give people who work a lot a bit extra leeway? I tend to post right around noon so its not particularly rough on me. Unless there is a hurricane. That changes things just a tad :P
Edit: So I posted. The stuff in the hider was just writing for the time skip so I had some sort of background point that I could reference. You don't really need to read or respond to it if you don't want to since it was the time skip. Just keeping myself organized.
