Jake continued running through the bunker when he ended up in the cafeteria. The smoke was getting worse and he started coughing uncontrollably. He rushed into the kitchen grabbing a cloth and drenching it with water. It was around this time he noticed that the flames were dying down at a rapid pace. He put the cloth to his mouth then started running towards the exit when he heard yelling from deeper inside the bunker.
He could hear two different voices but couldn't exactly tell where they were coming from. All he could tell was one sounded more urgent than the other. Jake decided to run towards that one first hoping he had time to get to them both.
As he got closer the voice he was chasing after sounded like it was coming from the couples area so he phased through wall after wall until he saw Casey. He stopped looking at her and said,
"Casey, are you okay? Do you know what happened here?" Casey stayed where she was since she heard two different voices coming towards her. She looked up and saw Jake. She shook her head.
"No, what caused the fire?" She coughed hard and was starting to get a little dizzy from lack of oxygen.
"I need to get out of here. Which way?" She grabbed onto the wall for support for a moment. Looking further down the hall she saw others running back and forth. Casey could only see shapes at this point.
"Are you in here to find others or to put out the fire or both?" She said as she started to wilt against the wall.
Kai spoke up when hearing Casey talk to Jake while he continued to look around
"I'm checking if anyone else needs help getting out of here. I can't do shit about the fire." He said in response and walked up to notice Jake already with her.
"Oh? well damn, glad you're here Jake. Did you find anyone else?" he asked Jake.
When Casey leaned against the wall Jake moved to pick her up. He needed to get her out as fast as possible. Then Kai showed up probably doing the same thing he was.
"I only saw one other person from our group. We got into a fight with three of the attackers, but I told him to run. I took out two of them, but the other got away. Can you make sure everyone else got out?" "I'm already on it and as for the man that was running, I knocked him out...I saw him and he looked at me funny and didn't answer my question so....I laid him out." He said shrugging. He knew he didn't have to but hey, he was late to the ass kicking. Might as well put his two cents in
"I'm going to check a few more rooms and after that, I'm out before I inhale too much and smoke come out of my ears like a pothead." He said to him.
Looking towards Casey
"Don't believe we met...I'm Kai..." he cleared his throat
"Wait...nevermind that, it's dangerous and we can learn about each other after.." He dismissed before motioning to leave them to check more for others.
Jake looked to Casey and handed her the cloth he had been using.
"Just keep that cloth to your mouth and we will be out of here quickly." He looked in the direction that the bunker doors would be. He knew the quickest way to get there would be to run straight through the walls, but he had never tried phasing someone else through something yet. He hestitated at first, but knew he had to get her out quick. Jake started running straight for the wall and closed his eyes to focus.
When he opened his eyes, he still had a hold of Casey and they were running straight through each wall between them and the exit. He held back the urge to yell out in excitement because that would just cause issues. After a few moments they were finally outside and Jake took a massive breath of air. He looked to Casey asking,
"Are you alright?" Casey had not seen that they were running through walls because she had kept her eyes closed. They had been burning so badly from the excessive smoke they were still watery. She coughed for a couple of minutes as her lungs fought back against the fresh air invading them once more and nodded. "Yes, thanks." She coughed some more and when she stopped she asked him something a little odd.
"Did you do something to us? I felt my skin go ...well, tingly? Like when your leg falls asleep but it was my whole body? Did you feel it too?" "Oh, that." Despite how much he knew about comic books and the like he still had trouble explaining his abilities. He looked up thinking about the best way to explain it then looked back at Casey and said,
"Well, we kinda just ran through the walls. I guess my ability is something along the lines of a mixture of Shadowcat from the X-Men and Luke Cage. We phased through the walls until we got here." Jake looked at Casey awkwardly hoping he had explained it well enough to not have confused her any.
"Umm, what's your power?" Casey smiled and held up her cell phone that did her no good without service and it floated in the air and all the pieces came apart and then went back together on their own.
"I'm a technopath. It's kinda boring when there isn't really anything techy left to use. However, this fire will finally give me some stuff to fix." Looking over and seeing Harley come out of the building she felt relieved.
"The fire must be out if Harley is out of there." She turned and hugged Jake and kissed his cheek.
"I appreciate you saving me." Blushing just slightly she moved towards the injured to see if she could help.
Jake was happy that Casey was alright. He thought her power was pretty cool. Made him think of Forge's abilities. When she hugged and kissed him he stood there dumbstruck. He was surprised. He had just been doing what anyone should do. After he got his focus back he turned his attention to making sure everyone was alright.
