Physical Description:
A bit taller than the average woman with an athletic physique: lean and somewhat muscular build. She keeps her light brown hair in a tight knot behind her head. She is fond of leather jackets, plain shirts, blue jeans, and boots. She has a dog tag necklace that she will sometimes wear but it's more likely to be kept along with her other possessions.
Personality:
If nothing else, driven would be the most accurate word to describe Emily. In any and all tasks, no matter how mundane, she'll pour every last bit of her effort into completing them. She enjoys her work immensely as an investigative journalist and has proven time and time again that she is very competent and skilled in doing her job, having cracked numerous minor cases and some major scandals throughout her near decade at the Arkham Inquirer. Smart and adaptive, she learns on the fly in order to get herself out of sticky situations, a necessary trait to have when on the job. At times she is quick to become irritated and isn't shy about lashing out physically if a situation pushes her over the edge. Under her calm and quiet confidence hides some anxiety issues. She tends to speak aloud to herself when on edge and even make self-deprecating comments. Although she does her best to hide this side of her.
Background:
Born and raised Arkham native, Emily led a pretty average childhood and got by living in a home with a single parent struggling to raise her and her two older brothers. An above average student, Emily, instead of heading straight off to college as her father wanted her to do, she instead joined the military and completed several tours in Iran and Iraq. During her tours, she discovered a passion for war photojournalism. After her last tour, she worked a stint for a private security firm before receiving an invitation to come work for the Arkham Inquirer as a photographer; they saw talent in her through her war photographs. After a month of working as a photographer, Emily found herself in the thrall of a major political scandal. It took almost half a year of work but she ended up breaking the story single-handedly, earning her major favor with her publication. The thrill of the hunt caused her to immediately switch from photography to investigative journalism and she's never looked back since. Despite the promise of fame and recognition for her work, she never once used her real name in her articles, instead, she goes by the pen name of Emma Black. Fast forward to today, Emily has her sights set on Innsmouth, having been drawn to the sleepy port by the promise of intrigue.
