I think to sell someone on an interest check, it's really important to seem enthusiastic about your own idea. That means writing more than a single sentence to attract potential players.

Did you know that Dante's inferno is called a divine comedy because things work out for the protagonist? Back in the day, the only two genres were comedy and drama. The only difference was that in a comedy, the protagonist is better off at the end, and a drama is the opposite. So that's why a story about going through hell can still be considered a comedy, even if it's not funny.

Name:
Broken Promise, BP, Boss

Age:
Old enough to know better, too young to care. (that is to say 30's)

Preferred RPs:
I Prefer to make my own, but will occasionally join something if it looks interesting. I'll join just about anything so long as it isn’t overly edgy/sweet, though it's rare for me to do. I don't do 1x1s too often either.

Preferred Roles:
I tend to play adorable characters everyone wants to befriend or proper assholes everyone wants to stay away from. I try not to play moral paragons or prime evils.

RP Conquests:
I've completed quite a few RP's off site, but most of them are on private forums or have simply been lost to the ravages of server crashes. As for stuff here, I'm sure everyone who sees me post in the off topic sections has seen me find an excuse to talk about Danganronpa: Tower of Carnage. It's a project that took over 4 years to complete and I feel pride not only for myself but all the wonderful people who helped make it enjoyable during its run. Re: Zero: The High Council Is technically my first, but it was just something I kind of took over and ended up ending the story after just six months. It finished, but eh...

Last RP I finished was Symphony of Espers which turned out pretty good.

RP's in progress:
For some reason I can't seem to stay away from Ari's magical girl RP, even if I'm not sure why I'm still in it.

As for my own projects, I'm doing Symphony on High to continue the gigachad adventures of the espers in Pax Septimus.

RP Graveyard:
I've been pretty fortunate on this forum. I think I joined one when I first came on the site that didn't really do anything, and there are a few 1x1 things that didn't go anywhere. It's disappointing when an RP ends before it can be finished, but I've come to look at them as learning experiences.

And then there's that london magical girl RP, and that dark magical girl RP. I think I'm done joining magical girl RPs for a while.

Other interests:
Videos
I watch a lot of educational videos on youtube. Usually as research for something I’m writing or purely because a topic interests me. I like channels like Tier Zoo and Daryl Talks Games, and I’ll also watch things like Critical Drinker or Literature Devil to deepen my understanding of story telling. Though I also like memes and jokes, to which I’ll find myself watching stuff like Sseth, but usually find myself surfing through meme videos. I gotta work on that.

Games
I have a rather long history of playing virtually every platformer to come into existence during the indie boom, as well as quite a few other indie games. I’ve played Meatboy, Binding of Issac, Gunvolt, Cuphead, Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt, Classic Metroid, Warcraft 3, Final Fantasy 7,8, and 14, Left 4 Dead, Shantae, Celeste, Danganronpa, God Eater, the list goes on. What I’ve played is kind of all over the place. I don’t play many games these days, I tend to pick things that look interesting and go on a decent steam sale.

Painting Minis
I do this in moderation. Otherwise, it's a pretty expensive hobby to start...

Music
I listen to everything, save most country/rap songs. I have too many favorites to name.

Personality:
Not one to take life or the internet too seriously. Is only serious about writing well and having a good time.

People to Insult:
Dalton is a Dingus.

@Ammokkx Hmmm? This is normally how I act.

You appear as online in a thread for 15 minutes after you log out. So you still looked like you were here to me.

Regardless, it seems like I've worn out my welcome, so I'll be off now. Good luck running things, pumpkin.
@Ammokkx Oh shit fam, am I being interrogated? Is there something wrong with lurking RPs that I use to be a part of? are you going to bust out the interrogation tools and make me talk? Guess I'd better come clean.

I'm sure you're aware that the Danganronpa formula doesn't squarely lend itself to the play by post experience. I speak as someone who's been running their Danganronpa RP since before the conception of this one pre=reboot. You may remember me giving mad props to @TheSeriousJoke last year. Running a 100% vanilla Danganronpa game is hard work, and I really do respect them as a fellow GM. had things moved a bit faster and I not had so many other irons in the fire I would have stuck around.

Now, fast forward a few months, my RP starts hemorrhaging a lot of users. Some nope out formally, but most just fade away without a word. Even the murder for my 4th case noped out without as much as a goodbye. I'm not one to stop moving forward, and neither are the players who stuck by me. The case was eventually completed and it just ended a week or so ago. Case closed, bad guy punished. Naturally I reflect on everything and wonder where and what my old players are doing. Turns out one of them still posts in here. Naturally I lurked, spotted you, spotted you calling out a lurker, and had to snipe you as fast as possible.

In hindsight, it was probably unnecessary.

Was that satisfactory? Can I phone my dog? I just wanna go home.
@Ammokkx I thought you were going to spot me and call me out, so I had to call you out first. Don't hate, skate.
@Mateotis@Majoras End

And with the punishment out of the way, we are in chapter 5! feel free to do whatever, from reflecting on past events to eating breakfast!
"Not cool." Denis repeated before folding his arms. "Not cool at all."

Noel leaned on her podium. "All you needed to do was confront Jezebel about it. There were ways around this."

Max shrugged his shoulders. "There's a reason I'm not the infinite detective."

"But you're gunna be infinitely dead in just a second, and I bet a few of you are pretty excited to see it happen!" Monokuma raised his paws into the air "It's punishment time!"

POLICE BRUTALITY

Max was standing inside a high security prison. The walls were lined with monokuma bots wearing jumpsuits, making lots of noise and occasionally throwing trash at the police officer. It was clear max was nervous, but he kept his gaze straight ahead. Because in the hall with him was a mob of carnage sisters dressed as fellow police officers, and standing behind them was every carnage class chassis they had faced up until now, who were also wearing police outfits. Kyra was in the lead, and they all had their batons drawn as they bared down on him.

Max had nowhere to go. To his back was a concrete wall with no way around the incoming sisters. All he had at his disposal was a knife. Previously he had been fool enough to think it would be an effective weapon to kill a carnage class chassis, but not anymore. Perhapse in an attempt to give himself an easy way out, he turned the knife on himself, only to discover it was a prop blade. He didn’t have much tome to reflect on his mistake before he was enveloped by the carnage sisters.

Lucy cleared her throat. ”So he kills off everyone like that? Why do you all look okay with this?”

Emily shook her head. ”It’s just happened so many times. It’s sad, but you almost get use to it. It’s not that we don’t care, but we need to be strong if we want to prevent ourselves from falling into despair.”

”I’m just tired of grieving. Once someone’s dead, the tears are for you and you alone.I’m just tired of feeling sorry for myself.” Bliss closed her eyes. ”But what Max said was true. Faith sacrificed herself for Jezebel. There are still good people who walk among us, even if so many have died.”

“Well, like, I’m glad some of you can put on a brave face. But I feel like shit,” Jezebel wiped her eyes with her sleeve. “I wasn’t very nice to her towards the end.”

Denis put a reassuring hand on her shoulder. ”She still like you.” He forced a smile. ”In end, she think you worth saving. She protect you with life. She not too nice at end if memory correct.” He took a step back. ”It okay feel sad. You lost friend.”

“Zachary…” Jezebel’s voice cracked. “Did you want to get out of here?”

CHAPTER 5: THE PENALTY OF JUSTICE

Hello everyone, Dr. Killgood with a prescription of monokuma theater!

You know something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately is retirement. I’m getting older, and I feel I’ve lot a step or two. There are a lot of young cubs that want to take my place, but they don’t have the experience, charm, or wit to do it!

Those damn youngsters are ruining everything! They don’t buy houses! They don’t play gulf! They don’t watch cable TV! They aren’t into casual dining! They aren’t buying napkins! They don’t go to the movies! They don’t go on cruises! They don’t wear suits! They don’t even use bar soap!

But all participate in despair…
@Ammokkx Hey I don't tag you when you lurk *my* RPs.

@Mateotis you gunna post, or am I okay to write a thing over Sunday/Monday?
I'm actually offended, BrokenPromise. I'm not a shady assassin IRL? Did you ever wonder where your braincells started going? How they just kept disappearing? I removed them in a rather discreet manner, via shitposts. But I guess it's also a compliment to my ability to not blow my cover, so I'll let it slide.

Makes sense.

Also also, BrokenPromise if that last line of yours was a subtle jab at me, then how about this

Does that make any sense?

Nah fam, not to me. When I RP I usually make use of discord to talk with everyone. People are more than just their characters, at least when I RP with them. I mean, I know @FamishedPants isn't actually a shady assassin, but I can suspend my disbelief enough that I can enjoy his posts. I certainly don't hold anyone to the level of a product I've paid money for.

I rather think that the problem is people try to put too much character background into a post, rather than having a grip on the character and allowing small parts of it to inform the action.

Very possible. I find a lot of posts would be more interesting if a bit more was held back.
You're right, that's exactly part of my point! It just makes it a little easier to spot "guy RPing a girl" and can damage the feeling of immersion and authenticity sometimes.

Gotta say though, most stories (non-roleplays) have a tendency to be written by a single author. While it's hard to put my finger on, it is clear that woman and men write their characters a particular way. Do you find yourself being pulled out of immersion when reading books?

But I agree with GeekFactor that you don't need to have diverse characters to have fun. A lot of roleplaying isn't about you being someone you're not, but experiencing things you usually do not. If you feel like being something you're familiar with, more power to you. It depends on the players/user, honestly.

I think the problem with people treading old ground isn't that people dare to play themselves, but that they tend to go for the Mary Sue-esque rolls without much variation. Which is almost understandable. I mean, inexperienced writers usually don't have a lot of real world experiences, so they write from what they know. And they know themselves, so they usually just write a character that is more or less a self insert with powers. This can cause problems down the pipe when the character has to take a loss or is criticized for anything. Because it's no longer the character, but the person playing them that is being asked to lose/be criticized.

I also think if you're going to be a GM, you want a certain level of diversity. Wouldn't it be weird to play in a Tolkien-esque RP where you travel the entire world, but all of the key NPC/villainous characters are edgy swordsman with dark pasts? This probably goes outside the scope of your comment, but I thought it was interesting to bring up.
