They were all accomplices now, willing or not. Leaving the snare trap behind, Muu, Matteo, and Ash strode off, following the latter's suggestion to find a stream. It made sense, after all. None of them had waterskins, and two hours of traipsing through the woods had left them dehydrated as well as hungry. And even if they weren't able to make a fire by the end of this, cool water could at least wash off the excess of blood that would come from gutting the rabbit. It was, all in all, a clean course of action, even if none of them had found any monsters to actually slay yet. Rugome Fort and the goblin scouts they could hunt down was far from their mind as Ash lead them through the forest once more.

Being able to locate water sources within a forest was one of the first skills that Ash learned during her training as a Ranger. Part instinct, part knowledge, part luck, it took all five senses and no small amount of concentration before the dull-eyed youth eventually brought her friends to a trickling stream. Hardly more than a handspan in width, the water looked rather murky as it chuckled over a muddy riverbed. On the far side of the stream, the forest continued off pointlessly in a collection of deadfall and thin, coniferous trees, while on their own side, berryless bushes sprouted randomly amidst the red-brown dirt.

It was now three hours into their journey, and though Ash and Muu were still breathing fine, Matteo's own breath had become ragged. He really could use the break, and his stomach was acting up too now, the scrawnier youth having become even scrawnier during his time in the caverns of the Thieves' Guild.

As a nobleman’s daughter, I am well-versed in art, languages, embroidery, music, dining etiquette, and philosophy. As my father’s daughter, I can ride as well as any man, know how to care for my own armor and weapons, and can recite our family’s pre-battle prayers from heart, no matter what situation. I will leave it up to you to consider which set of skills is more polished, considering my current vocation.

My mother thinks I’m an uncouth, rude tomcat, a terrible example for my younger sisters. My father thought I was the son he never had, full of the fire and steel he himself had during his springtime. My sisters, unlike what my mother would like to think, adore me. And for good reason. Though some rubbish-headed academics may consider me a hot-headed brute stuck in the body of a soft woman, I am anything but that. Challenge me to a drinking contest and I’ll send you home with a face redder than the sun. Challenge me to an arm wrestling contest and I’ll send your hand straight through the table. Challenge me in anything and I’ll prove to you that I’m better.

My father, before he passed away, granted me the name ‘Thorn-of-Mountain’. What are your life experiences? How did you grow up?

My name is Ier-Briar Thorn-of-Mountain Volkovin, eldest daughter of Dry-Ael Blood-of-Wolf Volkovin, the Blue Fang of Alcidea, the Holder of Farrow’s Deep, who passed away bravely two winters ago against the sullen horde of Valkraza the Hollow-Hearted. I was also engaged to some guy that was apparently of good blood, but I sure hope they gave up on it after I dumped a casket of wine on him.

As for my past, you can say that I was raised like any son in a warrior-lord’s household would.

I’m a woman? Yes, I am. That’s the point. My father was for it, my mother was against it, but considering how she kept on shunting out more daughters from her womb (thank gods for that), there was really nothing she could do. The glorious Volkovin name would be besmirched if there was a generation incapable of passing on the family arts to the next, after all. Alongside other, more ‘sophisticated’ arts befitting of a lady of my own standing, I’ve also learned the warriors’ craft since I was a child, honing my skill with halberd and horse, sword and shield until I can say with confidence that I was one of the finest warriors in my age bracket.

Of course, the man my father swore a blood oath to didn’t care for womenfolk amongst the ranks of his guard, and when my father died, all my mother could think about was selling us off to the highest bidder.

Perhaps I am being a bit harsh on her. Perhaps she simply wanted what was best, even if that vision doesn’t align with my own interest.

But gods damn that conniving sow regardless.

Got some time before I sleeperoo, so I'll toss up some Numba 1s.

Japan's Current Number 1: Magical Miracle Purity Light

Housed in Tokyo, and the sole reason why that particular prefecture has a crime rate that's still the same as it was during the Symbol of Peace era. Her Quirk allows her to create transparent barriers at any perceivable range, enabling her to protect, attack, and capture with her mind alone. Most criminals know not to trespass upon her holy ground because even if Magical Miracle Purity Light may not have the firepower to knock them out, she is wholly capable of impeding their activities until other heroes come to finish the job. In order to have the best possible defensive range, she partners up with Magical Miracle Purity Sight, the Empath Hero.

A good portion of her popularity stems from being a 'magical girl', and she's weirdly popular with men in their mid-30s who are convinced she's 15 years old, even when she's peaking in her late-20s at this point. Must be the face.

China's Current Number 1: Mad Chains

A hardcore hero who strikes fear in the hearts of all villains (and often times seems rather villainous himself), Mad Chains reached his spot in the Hero Rankings almost purely from merit. There's no doubt a cult following, but his true claim to fame is his inhuman work ethic that gave him the world record for 'longest streak of days without break'. Of course, that's due to his Immortal Quirk, granting him the ability to practically never die, as well as endless stamina, but considering the mental repurcussions of hero work, it's still rather impressive. Against human villains, he's an absolute menace. Against monstrous animals, he will literally punch them out from inside their stomach if that's what it takes.

Though he's mostly popular with university-aged guys who are absolutely awed by how FUCKING BADASS AND GORY AND EDGY he is, Mad Chains also has a weird fanclub called the 'Mad Maidens' who go about obssessing over which pieces of him they managed to pick up during his bloodier fights. Maybe some girls like guys who can take punishment. Life is strange, really.

USA's Current Number 1: Nightscape

Elegant and gentlemanly, Nightscape's Quirk allows him to finely manipulate and alter the properities of his cape, and he eloquently flies through the cities of America on an endless tour, tossing roses at his fangirls while kicking villain ass while he's at it. Famously promiscuous, he proudly states that he's got a woman waiting for him in every town, but still manages to get more woman in his sheets regardless of his cheating ass. Maybe it's the charm or something. Despite his frivolous nature, however, he's saved the country from nuclear terrorist scheme to nuclear terrorist scheme, always managing to pull through in the end. Even his critics have to admit that he's the real deal as a top tier superhero, no matter who he beds that night.

Rumors in tabloids say that his heart actually belongs to a 'Misery Mancer', the supposed daughter of the infamous supervillainess, Madame Frankenstein...but wew, that'd make for an awkward wedding, wouldn't it?

Russia's Number 1: MAXIMUM

A veteran from the pre-Symbol of Peace era, MAXIMUM is a silver fox that never bothered retiring and never bothered putting on a shirt. The epitome of Russian hardiness, his Ironclad Quirk transforms his body into artillery, firing heavy ordinance and delivering rocket punches to all those that dare stand in his way. In the country that has more monsters than villains, more barren land than cities, MAXIMUM's maximum firepower can always be seen on display, laying waste to the behemoths that would cause lesser, less manly heroes to closely reexamine why they signed up for this job. His weaponry's also powered by alcohol, so MAXIMUM actually has a reason to drink on the job, making him even more popular with the young gopniks.

Despite everything he does, however, most of his paycheck still goes to his three ex-wives and the children in their custody. Being a father's pretty hard work, sadly, and he's losing more hair every day, wondering if he'd go to his deathbed alone.
