Speaking mathematically, 1 out of 100,000 people have the potential to awaken their Aura then. Considering population size and whether or not society grants equal opportunities to all (unlikely), the actual ratio is probably even more dire. How many of those Potential Aura-Farmers were actual farmers who simply daydreamed of cutting swallows, after all?

Guess also meaningful to ask about general population size of the kingdom n all. And how much of it was wiped out by the demons before our characters died.
Comparatively speaking, how rare are Aura Knights compared to proper Wizards, in this hypothetical “magic can be learned” setting?

My only real reason for wanting magic was because I want magic items to exist, but if they’re already part of the setting, it’s fine to go without. That being said, the inclusion of magic in the setting as a discipline would kinda make it easier to handle Elves and Dwarves. Elves become innate magical geniuses while dwarves can craft magical items.
Grandpa forgot what it was like to be a kid. It’s k, he’s 70 years too old anyhow.
Oh, right.

It takes the form of a colored (unique to individuals) gas-like "energy" that coats their bodies.

Are we all humans? Or did the Houses get freaky?

Wilma, surprisingly hefty as she was, stood no chance against the treasure hunter’s strength and determination, honed over years of mines and trails, a wanderluster’s life lived heartily. Empowered by the child’s delighted shrieks, MacKinnon grit her teeth into a wide-toothed snarl-smile, tightened her guts, and for her final trick, tossed Wilma straight up into the air.

Not that high, mind you. MacKinnon wasn’t that much of a monster. And of course, though even her spring-chicken knees protested at the strain, she caught Wilma on the drop as well, plopping the kiddo safely on the ground while stealthily wiping the sweat off her brow. Face flushed, MacKinnon threw her head back in a hearty laugh.

“How ‘bout that, eh? And that’s with only two-tenths of my full strength!”

It was only then that she noticed someone else amongst them, and only because the chicken in that someone’s arms clucked in response to her chortling. Blinking twice, the treasure hunter did her best to place a name on the relatively unmemorable face, before simply shrugging. “Guess not! You’re the chicken-hunter, aren’t you? Dunno what a, what, high hen is, but that’s cool! Whatcha want?”

They talked a lot for a bunch of people who didn't even know that they were fighting children without a single smidge of essence in their body, hm? Otis's eyes flickered towards the blood spilled, the way that those grievously injured by bullet or blade now rose up once more as puppets. He fired one bullet towards the closest brigand, watching as it bounced off from the Personal Barrier that manifested. Forced activation. Wouldn't last too long then. The chamber was broken open, more bullets slotted into them with mechanical efficiency. With essence, he could have drowned those men in a swamp. With Ethos, he could have summoned all manner of enchanted tools.

"Would be easier if you could just temporarily deactivate the rings," Otis said to Fianchetto. "But failing that..."

The Strigidae settled deeper into his shooting stance, one hand behind his back, other hand extended, both eyes wide open. Regular bullets could not puncture a Personal Barrier so easily, and he doubted that an unenhanced Iraleth would have much better luck without the boons of the Inheritor. As such, there was only one way to handle this.

Measure the distance between heartbeats, wait for moments of predictable trajectories, and aim to shatter weapons with gunfire.
No worries. Take care of your health before your hobbies.
Bwahaha, that one 14.3% on the Modify Resource Output vote. Truly indicative of how a single vote could change everything.
Oh man, super awkward to have tried to edit in hijinks thinking I'd have time to do so before y'all read it.
