Hot dogs are already cooked. Might as well just sear them to add flavor.

If you take college seriously, it opens doors. Harvard and Hopkins makes it easier, but you can do well anywhere.

Prefer to brainstorm on Discord for that reason.

Anyone RPing in the Infantry Company, we are swapping out the T-21 Light Repeating Blaster for a heavier squad machine gun that puts out more firepower. Turn in your LMGs for these big pigs: DLT-19 Heavy Blaster Rifle. Call them Light Machine Guns (LMGs) or Automatic Rifles (AR). I don't care. We called them ARs in the 1980s and then when the SAWs were issued in the 1990s, we called them SAWs. Meanwhile, our European counterparts referred to the same gun as the LMG.

Any takers for a 34-man Sapper platoon?

I'm good. I do have a second character though, but that's one to talk to Sep about.
@HeySeuss

I would have to agree with Xeno on that notion. I'm of the opinion that having the map established would make things a lot easier.

I want to put the Vukash to the north on the map, but honestly, I found a really good map we can use.
Yeah, I have Alpha-32 in charge of 20 men largely because for special operations, you need more command oversight, someone that can apply discretion to their command role, and someone that can, theoretically, adapt their command experience in a larger role (of a company) to a smaller unit that is suddenly expected to take on a larger role, such as staffing a larger unit of irregulars and training them for combat. They also need to coordinate supporting elements, and that's not a job for a Lieutenant or Ensign, who is probably understudying for the role, but still learning.

In the case of Chakaar, I don't think that role will be a thing (though it is the primary mission of US Army Special Forces) and I am looking at them more of a traditional direct action/covert reconnaissance role force like the SEALs or SAS.

As they're primarily fringers and have bounty hunting experience, I also feel like capture/extraction is a big mission role for them, in addition to blowing things up, and that's why I left one extra seat on the U-Wing for extraction of Rebel personnel in the field that need to be brought in safely, or for captured Imperial personnel. Capture of facilities in space or on the ground are probably part of the mission too, though it seems that a boarding action of anything larger than a cargo ship or frigate will require follow-on forces. An ISD can't be taken by twenty guys, but twenty guys can take over Engineering and start opening some airlocks, sealing off other sections and blowing air out, probably after getting in covertly or using some sort of re-purposed mining ship to achieve breach.

I'm basically making sure that the SpecForces detachment, while perfectly capable of fighting, has its own role here. Anaxes is a perfect example; they performed site recon and provided intel to the raiding force, and when things went south they avoided direct engagement with an overwhelming force and instead opted to direct starfighter support to make the strikes more accurate and cripple that Imperial response to buy the troops time to pull out. Then they pulled out on their U-wings, which are more independent than the LAAT's as they have their own hyperspace capability. They could pull back a lot faster and could stay longer in support. By not getting engaged in direct combat, they were better able to support the troops that were. With only 20 against whatever reaction force the Empire brought in, probably a battalion at least of mechanized infantry and heavy support, they had limited options for non-suicide if they engaged with blasters.

So; Covert recon, functioning as fire observers, sabotage/demolition, making hot landings and grabbing people and other jobs that are beyond the scope of conventional infantry are covered. Per Legends material SpecForces divides specialties up into Infiltrators, Wilderness Fighters, Pathfinders, Heavy Weapons Specialists, Urban Combat Specialists, Technical Specialists and Marines, but, I am not sure how to fit in Chakaar with that. Maybe they came into Chakaar from different groupings within SpecForces, but Besk probably did follow-on training to meld them into a unit for the missions they'd be performing and make sure they're a team by the time they deploy.

Is this still a going concern? I'm trying to get a sense of where we are on posting and characters. Xeno mentioned the need to establish map pieces, but I am worried about doing that too early and locking us all in.

@HeySeuss

As a special forces unit, I'd imagine that they were either the first wave of the assault or acted as a diversionary attack, in order too draw the main force of Imperials away from the true objective.

They probably performed site reconnaissance, identified landing zones and got a layout of the place prior to assault.

@chayden13 that's what was what I had in mind, but I believe Seuss was wondering more in terms of what Besk was doing on the last mission.

The way I see it, when the Anaxes op started to go south, they provided some sort of fire support to disrupt the Imperial reinforcements and buy time for the main force to extract. That would depend on the SpecForces guys being in U wings which have hyperdrive capability. I'm going with the idea that they were mostly calling in starfighter support and designating targets, since engaging with their own weapons would be insufficient and reveal their position. That makes a lot of sense since Besk did the recon, his team knew the terrain the best. Once the rest of Rancor was in the clear, they probably got on the U-wings and got the hell out.
@HeySeuss if you want we can discuss things once I get home from work.

It was probably Besk's first ride with Rancor.
@HeySeuss With @Heat also joining your team of SpecForce you may want to bump up and take the full 20.

Doable. I also need to figure out what they were doing at Anaxes. I feel like they might have been providing some sort of assistance with getting the larger force out, or they provided the initial way in.
What about a Houk? I'm still running concepts by Sep but I might go with one, they're some of the biggest bruisers in the galaxy. Second maybe to the Wookiees on the list of physically strongest species, according to the wiki.

That part is entirely up to Sep.
<Snipped quote by HeySeuss>

Yeah that's perfect for me. I'm working on a human character but I like the assortment of species.

No problem. If you want to take over the LT spot in the second squad, I can bump the Duros down and remove a Human. I might pull different race members over into Besk's piece of it to make room for whatever you want to do. I definitely want to hang onto the Hutt-space races, the Weequay, Rodian and Nikto, since those are often fringer types, and I want to hang onto the Mon Cal, Aqualish and Nautolan, as they are aquatic races and that gives them a degree of flexibility in terms of inherent capabilities the Empire just wouldn't have.

We could also use a Wookiee, but I held off on that.

In that case, I think I'll have my character be a member of the second SpecForce's squad. I was imagining the squad being a jack of all trades sort, so this will work better, not to mention the fact that it creates an interesting dynamic.

No problem. Just tell me what slot you want to grab and I'll shift things around for your character. Basically, I'm keeping a certain species balance in there where humans are not the majority of beings in there, though they are three or four members of the squad.
