Bio

Greetings,

I am Jb; Briton by birth, roleplayer by my own hand, and lover of literature. I am also an amateur historian, a receiver of a Bachelors degree in Ancient and Medieval History - quite a useless degree, actually - and would like to think that I'm a fair, honest and open guy.

As far as RP'ing goes, I'm pretty open to most things really, all you need to do is ask! :)

So, if you've ever any questions for me, wish to speak about RP's involving myself or run by myself, or simply feel like a chat, don't be afraid to get in touch.

“Men, the enemy troops you can see are all that stands between us and the place we have for so long been determined to reach. We must find a way to eat them alive!” - Xenophon, The Persian Expedition

[Previous incarnation of the RP here]

TL;DR Summary:
  • Set within the Games Workshop universe, I intend to stick to the lore as closely as possible while still retaining some form of originality and invention; if you're not a Warhammer 40,000 purist or utter nerd, that's fine.
  • This takes place in the years of the 42nd Millennia, the Necrons are waking up...the Tau are preparing for another sphere of expansion, the Golden Throne is failing and Roboute Guilliman has just concluded his Indomitus Crusade and the beginning of the Plague Wars; what could possibly go wrong? (A map of the galaxy in its current state...)
  • We'll be taking on the role of a group of mercenaries, participating in however many missions, tasks and scenarios I and my Co-GM(s) can get my (our) head(s) around. There will be an eventual 'endgame', I'm justy not certain what it is yet.
  • Sound familiar? That's because it is. Don't worry, they'll be plenty different.
  • Xenos of Major and Minor varieties are acceptable, but if you choose to play one then you'd better know what you’re doing. Humans are preferred, but not demanded.
  • Tyranids, Necrons, Sisters of Battle and female Astartes are prohibited – if that's an issue, I'm happy to discuss it.
  • Please private-message character sheets to me for approval. I will put a template up in the Char tab.

In Character Info

In the grim darkness of the 42nd millenium there is only war - but there is also emotion, motivation and greed. There are those that combine all of these things, hardened professionals and relativly green newcomers alike, some working toward their own goals and agendas, others simply in it for the money. The latter are the most straightforward of all, and potentially the most trustworthy as well.

From corrupt officials, to Inquisitors that don't wish to involve themselves too closely, to a simple village on a backwater planet that needs defending, in a galaxy at war there is always work for one who is handy with a weapon...and those more than willing to pay them; assassinations, extortion, and so much more can be done with the promise of monetary payment, equipment, contraband or whatever one desires.

This is all doubly so when it comes to the outlying regions of what is known as the Imperium, the 'frontier' as it were, the Calixis Sector and Kronus Expanse...the Ghoul Stars and Eastern Fringe between Tau and Imperial space, enclaves far away from civilisation, and all manner of much less polite settings for one seeking work.

And there are those seeking work...

Some are well-known and easily found - humans of all shapes and sizes, entire races such as the Kroot that are known for their mercenary nature, and arrogant Eldar Corsairs - while others are less known to the Imperium but no less available, those such as the Tarellian Dog-Soldiers, the winged Vespid warriors, the cloaked H'rud and more.

You are one such individual, for whatever reasons or motives, you have chosen the life of a hired killer and now you live with it.

Out of Character Info:

So, there you have it!

I suppose, in short, this RP will be much like Rogue Trader but far more rogue; I will be allowing pretty much any race/species - minus Necrons, Sisters of Battle, Inquisitors or Tyranids - as well as players being able to choose more or less anything about their character that they will...within reason.

You want to create a Valhallan mercenary with a looted Tau pulse rifle, a man who has seen some stuff, who has fought Daemons and gone a little loose because of it? That's fine.

You want to create an Astartes that can tear apart every other member of the 'crew' because of how skilled and overpowered they are? Not fine.

Basically, if you're unsure of such things/have questions, then ask me!

It just makes life easier for all.

One last things before I end my ranting/writing here, and that is that I would like both a bit of knowledge from players as well as balance.

If you don't know anything about Space Marines, or why one would turn renegade, then don't bother trying to write one. Same goes for any character. Reading up on things, or simply watching YouTube lore vids, is easy enough to get a grasp on such things.

By 'balance' I mean exactly that - as in the above example, unless your character is a psychopath (fair one) or a worshipper of Chaos (which I would discourage but not prohibit) then fighting a Daemon would do something to them, probably. Action and reaction, balance, if you think your character is unbalanced then they probably are.

Oh, one last thing, invention and imagination! There are billions of species/races in the 40K universe, major and minor, and if you can't think enough to make something somewhat original (I expect nothing to be completely so) then there's no hope for you.

So, anyone interested and any questions! Ask them now.

Any questions? Please ask.
How long had it been? Half-an-hour? An hour? Two hours? The chronometer in the corner of Decius' HUD wasn't working properly, much to his annoyance, and the former member of the Third had been stalking here, there and everywhere for what seemed like an eternity before he found any signs of life other than menials and naval crew – these he either avoided, or else dispatched with his blade.

Up ahead they were, past a corridor scorched by a flame of intense heat - the gore of bodies still visible as he moved on, with one being distinctly Orkoid...at least what was left of it, torn apart by the shotgun blasts he had heard earlier no doubt – his surprisingly light footfalls carrying him like a phantasm through the vessel before he came within a few feet of the armoury and heard raised voices; by the sounds of them, one was the tech-marine and the other his brother of the First, other human voices unknown to him making threats and bargaining in equal measure.

By hearing and training alone he managed to pinpoint the postilion of the mouthy Ratling as he entered the scene, his bolter raised and loaded in his hands, the amethyst warrior noting the large shapes of Xepherial and 'Thorn' standing nearby the door to the armoury.

“Brothers,” he grunted in announcement of his arrival, taking a position next to the oddly bare Angel who appeared to be doing most of the talking, his eyes never leaving the smaller figure opposite them, “having a spot of trouble here?”

I'll try and get a post done today - I bought the Sisters of Battle omnibus last saturday and I'm in the mood for purging!

I'm not entirely sure how to enter the scene from here

Run into the compound with your horde of screaming fanatics?
@jbcool You still in this mate?

I'll be 100% honest and state that I have barely any idea of what is going on (TL:DR), although if anyone feels like giving me a quick summary I would appreciate it.
I always found this one hilarious because Blood Angels are actually my favourite Chapter, and the one I had an army for...

@Hank I guessed as much, your RP is going insane.
@Drunken Conquistador@Laduguer@Amaranth@DeadDrop@Hank@Cash78

Right, as Hank (once again), seems to have deserted me...I'll get us going again, probably tomorrow.

Thank you all for your saint-like patience.

“All of them?”

“All of them, sir.”

It was desperate now, the majority of the PDF garrison having been torn apart by the civilians of the Hive, dogged on by some sort of preacher and his Sororitas guards; the unknown Inquisitor was behind all this, that much Van Der Schartz knew and it vexed him far more than anything ever had in his life.

“They will come for us next,” he stated half to himself and half to De'Shard, “secure this area with whatever we have left, I do not want anyone getting in or out!”

Desperation bred paranoia but also caused the Colonel to feel like a rat backed into a corner, the NCO barracks cordoned off by a ring of only his most loyal soldiers – some armed only with their lasguns, and at least two heavy weapon emplacements behind sandbags, one las-cannon and one heavy stubber; all-in-all it would be dangerous for anyone to assault the place, unless you were a highly trained servant of the Imperium.

“She said we would be safe...she promised we were doing His work...” muttered the Colonel as he paced back and forth, “why would they want to kill us? We are only carrying on His work!”

De'Shard made sure that one fist was wrapped about the laspistol at his hip, concealed under the table he sat at but within easy reach. His CO was losing it now, and soon enough he may try to take both their lives, but the wily Vox-Operator would make sure that only one of them did not walk out of here.

“Horacio and Sister Procyon should be bringing the cavalry any moment,” Kliment noted with a smile – old Earth adages being something he studied in his spare time - “we must make a move before then, I believe.”

Making sure that all his Sisters were gathered about him, and whipping an =][= shaped rosette from somewhere, he held it up as he strode out of his cover, twisting his head briefly to hiss back at his protectors, “if they begin to fire, kill them all, but I want their commander alive.

“I am Inquisitor Kliment of His most holy Inquisition, and you are all in violation of his will,” announced his baritone voice to all within earshot, “drop your weapons now and no-one need die. Resist, and each of you will be executed as a traitor.”

Holding his rosette up high for all to see, his other hand not far from his own weapon, Kliment noted the conflict coming over some faces. More than a couple of PDF troopers looked to another, seeking some way to get out of this situation, but unfortunately for them there truly was none.

Without warning a streak of crimson las whipped past his head, Kliment already moving as the stubber opened up on where he had been stood, the surprisingly nimble agent tucking himself into a diving roll and ending up behind the wall of a nearby building. Almost unconsciously he slid his pistol from his hip, looking back to where the Sororitas were squatting, before waving his pistol toward the NCO barracks.

“Kill them, kill them all!”
Interested. As a further question, what period of feudal Japan might this be based? Kamakura, Sengoku, Edo/Tokugawa, Early Meiji/Boshin?

Good question, and most likely one of two (weigh in if you like), those being either the Late Sengoku into Early Edo period - so the intersecting years between the two - or the more general Edo period, essentially when the act of musha shugyō became prevalent due to the arts of war and swordsmanship becoming organised and categorised into schools. I'd also consider the Late Edo period, which would probably end up leading to a 'Last Samurai' sort of thing...without Tom Cruise.

Not sure that actually answers the question, but I am open to opinions and so on.
