Bio

Hey all, JB here.

I'm a DM for a large number of games here on RPG, as well as a player in several others. Many of the games I run are overly complex, or they involve Dungeons and Dragons (which is also overly complex!).

I work 40+ hours a week, and am the proud father of two tiny terrors named Chibi and Chibette and married to my beautiful Wifey. As such, I am quite busy more often than not. I typically write 2-5 paragraphs per reply and try to maintain an excellent level of grammar. If you noticed me glancing at your profile, I probably was looking to see if you would be a good match for my RPing style. Even if I didn't send a PM to you, feel free to send one back!

I enjoy 1x1 RPs and small groups. I'm fond of medieval, steampunk, and futuristic settings, and I'll jump into romance, adventure, and slice of life RPs fairly quickly, although supernatural (vampires, werewolves, etc) RPs get old for me pretty quickly. If you're looking for an RP partner and I've glanced at your profile, then I'm most likely willing to give it a shot, but decided against PMing you because I'm actually kinda shy. But I'm always looking for a new friend!

Please feel free to say hi at any time!

With the sight of Lucian's crumpled body, nearly all of the optimism in Ryobi dissipated immediately. Davis had been a long-time friend of his, and they were closer than nearly anyone else on the station. And now he was very likely dead. "Gris?" Ryobi muttered, unable to believe the evidence before his eyes. "Why would Gris... He's always been such a nice guy. This makes no sense. Did he ever complain to you?" Ryobi turned to Jan, hoping the Warden might have some insight. "No, wait. We need to get moving. Tell me on the way."

Ryobi let his eyes pass over the former Captain and let out a sigh. "We should lock this door. Burchill has a key to his office, right? If we lock it, then people won't be able to get in easily and mess with station controls." He stepped back to Burchill, finally breaking the embrace he so desperately needed. "And to think, I told Sayako last week that things were starting to get a little boring and routine. Not anymore, huh?" He rummaged through the Captain's pockets, trying to remove the identity of his actions from his mind. It wasn't easy for him, and every action was forced, even his footsteps towards the body. "This was not how I wanted to spend my day off, Warden," he called back, attempting to maintain his glib exterior despite the sinking feeling in his stomach. "You always know how to screw with my vacations, it seems."

A few seconds of grim searching revealed the captain's key card, which Ryobi picked up and held out towards Jan. "You should take this and keep it safe, Captain. Let's lock this place up and get going. The doc needs us as soon as we can get there." He cast a look back to the monitors wistfully. "Hopefully we can come back soon and get more information, but there's no time now."
The goliath roared in pain and anger as the lightning coursed through him. "Enough playing around! Kill them all!" he shouted, the red fury reflecting in his eyes as he hefted his greataxe, swinging it around to drive straight down on the paladin before him, nearly felling the seasoned veteran with a single blow. As the blow landed, a deep sinister laugh sounded from the goliath.

Mechanics: Goliath uses Battle Cry, enhancing his allies' abilities for a round. He also uses Great Weapon Master, landing an extremely powerful blow on Lex, seemingly enhanced even further by his fury. Lex takes 21 slashing damage.

@FaithsRose Do you have Discord? We have a channel set up. It might have cookies, or that might be a complete lie to lure you in.

Something about the prank refused to sit well with Brandon, even after the others calmed down. Brandon was the sort of guy who nearly never showed negative emotions, and even his positive emotions seemed dampened or even forced at times. But right now, it was fairly obvious that he was seething. "I'll be right back," he announced quietly as he left the room, still refusing to look at anyone.

Brandon began walking back towards the garden, not really knowing the layout of the house enough to go anywhere else. Normally, this would be when Brandon would head to his room and either put on headphones and curl up with a book or boot up an MMO for some mindless grinding. Not knowing even where his room was made the former an impossibility, and of course logging into a paid subscription would be more trouble than it was worth, even if he did have a few days left before he had planned to let his subscription lapse. The garden seemed an acceptable alternative, at least for now.

Never being a major fan of the outdoors, Brandon knew next to nothing about flowers, but he was able to appreciate beauty in almost any form from interior decorating to architecture to people, and of course, including flowers. He walked along in silence alongside the garden, trying to appreciate the amount of hard work Elizabeth must have invested.

As he walked, he tried a mental exercise to attempt to pinpoint the source of his rage. Obviously, it was the prank, but he felt no ill-will towards the alleged prankster: Eva. He was never one to indulge in pranks himself, even completely harmless ones, but he knew Eva's personality was the sort that couldn't sit still long without some sort of thrill. Amelia's crying had really bothered him, and even though it may have not lasted long, it was troublesome to him. She deserved better, especially after the morning she had evidently experienced, but her day was just being made worse. Perhaps instead of those two issues, the reaction itself was at fault. Half the group had rushed to her aid like chivalrous knights, and the rest had turned on their friends much faster than Brandon could have predicted. But that way of thinking was flawed: maybe chivalry was flipped in this case. After all, Brandon was here to experience several firsts and to open up more. Maybe Amelia needed the same, but she should do so on her own terms.

All of these thoughts flew through Brandon's mind in a blur, and he had only been gone for a few moments. Perhaps he would walk the garden path a bit more. Maybe when he returned, everyone would have forgotten about the altercation. Fat luck, but Brandon had no better ideas. At least he had time to admire the view.

I pushed up an experimental notification system for when someone posts in one of your subscribed topics / roleplays.

You'll notice you can now archive subscriptions: roleplayerguild.com/me/subscriptions

- Regular subscriptions will notify you when someone posts in them.
- Archived subscriptions do not notify you. They're more like bookmarks, topics / roleplays you want to keep on your "favorites" list but you don't necessarily wanna know when they receive updates.

Special thanks to @Ellri for what I think was a simple implementation idea.

If you encounter issues, lemme know.

Would it be possible to have archived or no-notification subs on the same page as normal subs? For example, if an RP has a lot of OOC chatter, I don't necessarily want a notification every few minutes, but I still want to be involved IC.
The chanting from the drakes ceased as the wolf howled, instead turning to incoherent babbling. The coral drakes inexplicably remained where they were, floating on the top of the water while encased in Dyn'yer'zhead's black tentacles, seemingly not caring that their life's energy was being sapped from them. Their babbling increased in a nearly religious fervor, but the words were unintelligible. In fact, it was likely that they meant nothing at all.

Awesome! Thankies!!!

With the join leave, maybe a way for Gm's to add to a roster (Maybe even could be tied into a mass pm for the RP, or a way for Gm's to auto tag everyone active in the RP when there are updates.)

@MahzPotentially building on this idea - what if there was also an Inactive roster? GMs (and co-GMs) could move an individual to and from the inactive roster (possibly sending a notification to the individual and all GMs to prevent abuse). The Inactive individual would no longer receive notifications sent to [@everyone], but might receive PMs or other items of high importance. Or vice versa... or perhaps there's some other combination of effects that I'm not thinking of that would be useful.
The wolf seemed less than pleased about its new cage, swirling about angrily like a snow squall. It opened its mouth and released an angry howl that sounded like a dozen banshees screaming at once, the kind of sound that pierces into your very soul and eats away at your sanity. I, of course, was unaffected thanks to the spell I held aloft, but some of my allies were not so lucky.

>The Thuellai uses Howl of the Maddening Wind. Everyone must roll a Wisdom Save.

>The following people pass: Jill (20), Dyn (24), Eliza (24), Koan (17), Garnesh (21), Reemes (17)

>The following people fail: Nemeia (2), Shivs (7). Affected: @Zverda@Cu Chulainn.

There was little to do but level my pistol at the serpentine foes. No, not serpentine... drakes! These creatures were Coral Drakes, draconic beings that lived among the corals, but sometimes venturing to the deeper seas. Like all draconic beings, they were far more dangerous than they appeared on the surface: their breath weapons were deadly, and these drakes appeared to be able to swim AND fly. These were no mere water snakes, and it was my duty to inform my crew.

"Drakes!" Jill shouted before pulling the trigger on her pistol. "They're not serpents. They're a type of dragon!" The shot was placed expertly, striking the enemy between the eyes... or it would have if the drake had not been dancing erratically. Instead, the bullet sailed between its coiled form, missing completely. "Dammit..." Jill looked around to see which of her crew were harmed, and Nemeia's pole-dancing form caught her eye. "Hold it together, Nemmy!" she cried as her healing words soothed the tabaxi's wounds.
DM Inspiration!

I'm awarding inspiration to Nemeia because pole-dancing while shooting lightning from a gun is fantastic and we need more of it. @Zverda

@Mahz How difficult would it be to have an [@everyone] tag that notifies those who are subscribed to a thread? Or perhaps those who have posted, but that could get annoying. Perhaps the tag is only usable by DMs to prevent spamming?

Also, I assume the 18+ tag is a new feature. Would mods be able to go around and add it to recent/active threads that are marked as mature?
"I believe, Mighty Feline, that these spheroids might be some human enemies of this Mecha, or perhaps alien." Jenneva turned to the Harbinger and doused her flames with a flick of the wrist as she approached. "Perhaps we should find adventure that does not involve the destruction of hopefully innocent machinery or its pilot." She extended her hand towards the cat reaching upwards towards its great mane. "Might I? I have not seen a beast so magnificent in eons. If I were allowed to run my fingers through your mane, perhaps to scratch your ears, it would bring me great joy."
