"Following the light of the sun, we left the Old World." — Inscription on Columbus' caravels
The Previous Evening...
Henry and Eli sat together in the observatorium, at the very top of the highest spire on The Promise. They did this every new year, in some form of tradition. As if it was some recognition process- celebrating a new group coming aboard.
“Hey, Eli,”
The man rustled some, turning his head lazily towards his reptilian companion. Henry pointed toward the clear ceiling towards no star in particular.
“That, right there, is why I stay on this ship.”
Eli sneered.
“You could get that view on the ground, man. It’s pretty much the same view.”
“Yeah, but I feel closer. Y’know? Who was it- was it black science man, Sagan, or Clarke that made that ‘Alone in the universe’ quote?”
“Clarke, Henry. That was Clarke.”
“Yeah- I just… Some part of me thinks that me doing my part here helps us take one step closer to getting there.”
“Zoey, how far away is that star Henry’s pointing at?”
”That star is approximately… 227 light years away, Doctor Winzer.”
“Well, Henry, we have a hell of a lot of steps left.”
Present
Today is the day. All of that time being vetted in physicals, taking shots, and having strangers put their fingers in every possible orifice have all come to their climax. Whether you have been excited, fearful, or a combination of both, the time has come.
Today is the day you realize, as you slide off of your bed in your quarantined room and press your bare feet onto the ground, that this is a day of lasts. This is the last time you will shuffle into a line to get breakfast, the last time you would see see your family, and the last time your feet would touch Earth for eight years.
Today is the day for launch.
Wednesday
"Wakey, wakey! Eggs and bakey!" a voice called out, rousing Wednesday from her slumber and enticing her to roll over from her lumpy cot. She couldn't see the person outside of the door, but she recognized the voice. It was the same one that had come to her cell every morning and every night, and sometimes at lunchtime- but only to annoy her. Her nature had forced her to come to know the person the voiced belonged to, if only to cause heartache in return.
"Wow, eggs and bacon today? You're spoiling me." She commented as food was slid under her door and into her room. It most certainly was not eggs and bacon. It was oatmeal and bread. Just like it had been every other day since she had gotten into solitary confinement.
"Trust me, I really fought for your last meal to be different. Better eat up! It's a big day today!" the voice commented sarcastically. There was the sound of whistling and footsteps that faded, and then Wednesday was alone again with her... slop. She sighed and knelt down on the ground, dipping her bread in the oatmeal and took a bite like she normally did. Her mind drifted to his words- last day. Did that mean they were going to kill her? She knew she hadn't been a model citizen in any country, but she was certainly not a super villain. Everyone she'd done in had it coming in one way or another.
The past few weeks had been eventful, but in a bad way. She had been pulled in and out of her quarantined cell and restrained so that doctors could do whatever they wanted with her. When she had screamed and burnt several, they had claimed it was for research purposes in preparation. Maybe they were just finding the best way to kill her? She snorted and smiled to herself. Fools, she was just like any normal person in that regard. She took pride knowing that she had wasted thousands of taxpayer dollars and hours of their time. If she was going to die, she was going to die a pain in the ass.
A few hours passed, and she spent the time the way she did any other day- which was carving something into the wall. It usually wasn't anything good, since she couldn't draw for shit, but it got her mind working and that was what mattered. She heard the marching of feet, and immediately stood up. She had spent the time steeling herself for this situation. She had faced fatal situations before, and death was no stranger to her. If she was going to die, she was going to die with dignity. Her cell door unlocked, and two heavily armed guards stood in the doorway. She offered her arms to be bound in that strange goo they always used (since she always melted through the normal handcuffs), but instead she was swiftly stuck with a needle. She wrenched her arms back, and tried to activate her powers- but to no avail. Her vision began swimming, and she felt her strength go. She collapsed to the ground and as her vision began blacking out, she heard:
"Dude! Did you just Bill Cosby her? Not cool!"
Her delirious mind was not looking forward to whatever was coming next.
When she came too, Wednesday awoke heavily restrained, and not in the fun way. She couldn't move any of her body aside from turning her head, and her powers weren't acting like normal. She was alone in a room that had to have... fifty or more seats in it. Some of which were occupied with people restrained similarly to her. What the hell kind of execution was this?
"Woah! Looks like she's awake!" a voice rang out over the intercom. This voice was... nerdy for a lack of better description.
"Where the fu-"
"You're being launched into space."
Wednesday was taken aback.
"Wha-"
"Yeah, see, I do this a lot so the line of questioning gets pretty standard. There was an agent in your food this morning, and a catalyst in that needle along with a sedative. Knocked you and your powers out. Basically some higher up decided that we're the last thing besides you and being shot into the sun, so you're taking a trip on the world's biggest rollercoaster."
As the others began to wake up, the voice answered similar questions. After a while, it announced that the others would be arriving soon, and to sit tight. Then she heard something about him mumbling about coffee breaks not being often enough. After a short period, a slow trickle of people wearing bright white uniforms began coming into the room. They were chattering about 'The Promise' and how they'd been invited. Some were talking about their families. All of them had personal items and luggage- it was like they were walking into a plane or something. They had obviously known about this, and had somehow agreed to it. The noise in the room grew as the seats were filled- and then promptly silenced when the voice came onto the intercom once again.
"Students, welcome! My name is Elias, and I am required to sound like I give a shit."
That prompted a few laughs.
"So, I gotta brief you all- basically you'e being shot into space towards a hole that's moving really really fast. Kinda like a really big game of pool. If we undershoot, you die. If we overshoot, you die. If you leave the ship now, you probably wont die. Last chance to get off!"
No one moved. Some out of balls, and others out of fear.
"Wow, buncha winners we have here. Anyways, keep yourselves strapped in- and keep your gear secured. Dont want that killing anyone during the flight!"
The comms shut off again, and the chatter resumed. Wednesday was just trying to remember her family.
Half an hour passed, and then...
"10!"
The countdown began. Some students were giddy in their seats, eagerly looking out their windows. Others were clutching various religious objects and praying in various languages.
"6!"
"You ready?" Someone called.
"4!"
"Not even a little bit!" another person answered.
"3!"
A large portion of those aboard the pod joined in on the counting.
"2!"
Some students were holding hands.
"1!"
Wednesday made a cross across her chest.
"Liftoff!"
For a moment, there was dead silence, and Wednesday wondered for a brief moment if there was an issue. Then her stomach lurched as the pod's engines rocketed to life. She and everyone else felt the push as the amount of thrust overcame gravity- and then were pressed into their seats as the rocket picked up speed. Mötley Crew's "Kickstart My Heart" began playing over the intercom, no doubt as a courtesy of one of those overseeing them from the control room. Wednesday was able to turn her head and gaze out of her window- a huge white cloud of emerged from the base of the shuttle, then brightness so intense it was almost hard for her to look at- but there was no looking away. This was it. Wednesday's heart was in her throat as memories of nightmares she’d had popped into her head- of fears she had, of her family and friends both living and dead. The flames shooting out of the bottom of the shuttle were scorching a line through the sky, leaving a thick trail of orangey smoke behind them. Within moments the shuttle was soaring high above the Earth, to a soundtrack of cheering. Then came the first inkling of the rumble that went on to be a wall of sound so powerful it literally shook her bones. The deep rumbling built to a crescendo of popping like the sound waves were ripping the air apart, bursting their way through to them. Had she not been provided context, she would have assumed that it was the sound of an earthquake. It was like one thousand fireworks exploding all at once, with an accompaniment of an Earth-shaking rumble.
"Enjoy your trip. ETA: ten minutes. See you all soon." Eli's voice came onto the intercom.
The launch was immensely powerful, and she truly felt herself in the centre of it. It was like riding an enormous- overpowering wave, or being pushed and lifted, or shaken in the jaws of some gigantic animal. The pod shook and vibrated, and she was pinned hard down into her seat by the acceleration. As one set of engines finished and the next started, she was thrown forward and then shoved back. The weight of over 4 Gs for many minutes had been oppressive, and the sudden shift rocked her to her very core. As if an enormously fat person had been lying on her, until suddenly, after 9 minutes, the engine shut off and she was instantly weightless.
Outside, The Promise was rotating around the planet at five hundred miles an hour, and as the pod approached, the port at the bottom of it's central spire opened- and the pod flew seamlessly into it. Wednesday and many other students lurched forward when a series of braking systems enclosed around the pod as it flew through the port's bowels. As it came to a stop- the seat belts released from around the normal students.
The whole process of transporting the group 350 miles had taken twenty minutes.
The doors opened, and a flood of people in all shapes and sizes rushed in. The woman who had approached Wednesday unlocked her restraints and offered her a hand. She weakly raised her arm and took it, and was pulled up slowly, but all too quickly at the same time. She fell against the woman, who held her until she was steadied. It dawned upon Wednesday how fast her heart had been beating, and she placed a hand against her chest and tried to keep herself from coughing.
"One hell of a ride, huh? Nothing quite like it."
Wednesday noted that her voice had a British accent, and that she was thin and blonde. Wednesday nodded wordlessly, and the woman helped her to her feet. Many of the other students were leaning against the walls of the room or their luggage, and others were walking into a bright corridor outside.
"What's your name?" Wednesday questioned. The woman smiled, and answered easily: "Arianna."
Arianna pointed towards the corridor, and Wednesday looked to her incredulously. Did she really expect her to walk after all that?
"The first steps are a special thing. It's tradition to take them on your own." Arianna said knowingly.
Wednesday gulped, and took a step forward. She nearly collapsed under her own weight, and leaned heavily onto the wall. Only a few more steps. She repeated this process, gaining slightly more strength as she did so, and eventually stepped into the bright corridor, and followed the large arrows on the floor directing her where to go. When she stepped into what couldn't be anything other than her destination, she was greeted by a massive hub. There was a large variety of people- most of which were those on the pod, but some were others that weren't dressed in launch uniforms. They were dressed like normal people, and they were in a ring around the new arrivals yelling something about 'The Promise' and 'School Spirit'. They were loud and proud. Wednesday nearly threw up in her mouth- but she couldn't tell if it was because of the Kumbaya shit or leftover queasiness from the launch.
Arianna walked up behind her and put a hand on her shoulder.

Doctor Olin is a large, and very physically fit individual of distinct reptilian origin. At over eight feet tall Henry towers over most anyone in the room- oftentimes by a full head, shoulders, and more. Due to his extreme bulk, Henry's clothing almost always fits well and is made in-house since there is no 'Lizardman' section in The Promise's GAP.
Henry's scales gleam and have the same texture as a snake's, signifying his health. They are black and white in coloration, and have been ascribed to that of a Argentinian Tegu's. Aside from having a tail, scales, and claws, it is very obvious that Henry wasn't born this way and was very much human at one point. Five fingers, five toes, just like a person. Although his legs have mutated with his ankle joint extending outwards. Similarly, his head has mutated to a much more reptilian appearance- projecting forward into a snout.

Doctor Olin is one of the nicest men one could meet. He has a reputation for making students do hard but rewarding work, and has shown to be both compassionate and understanding. Several students have caught themselves calling him 'Dad' due to his persistence to go above and beyond to assist students going through rough times. Due to his appearance, it is understandable as to why he is likely the least judgmental person on the ship. He's smart as a whip too, often telling bad jokes and cleverly worded puns- which is another reason why many students likely call him dad. Older students are often seen with him in the bars located around The Promise having a jolly time.

The Doctor we all know now was born in 2038
When Henry was born, he was average weight, and had a full head of hair and looked like a little old man. He did nothing but scream and shit for three days after that.
And for a while, Henry was a normal boy. He attended normal school, was normal height, and looked like a normal boy from a middle class Australian family.
Then, when he turned twelve in secondary school, puberty hit him like a freight train. Unlike most, his awkward phase was extremely short. Also unlike most, he turned into a lizard monster.
Within the span of a week he had literally eaten all the food in the house, undergone excruciating pain, and became literally the most pissed off kid you will ever meet (brooding teenagers have nothing on him). He quite literally nearly took his sister's hand off for trying to swipe away a spare meatball. If this was Oregon trail everyone's diets were set to bare bones for about eight days for sheer survival purposes as he literally ate everything (bite makes on the dinner table for evidence). Henry's mother took him to the hospital, and to many forms of therapists and none of which had ever seen something like him before.
Henry was taken out of school, and as he regained control over himself and his body calmed down, he wasn't anywhere near what he was when the transformation began eight days before. Standing at a staggering 6'5 from his previous 4'11, and weighing in at a gaunt 210lbs, Henry was unhealthy, and overall sick, but still much larger and stronger than his own father (Who was about 5'10, ~170lbs). His body was still suffering the effects of the chemical changes and metabolism shift from warm blooded to lukewarm. His awkward stage continued for another week or so as his body adapted, and gained weight. He ate as much as before, but he wasn't as violent in doing so. Eventually he calmed down over the next two weeks, being a solid 401 lbs. At the weight of 411, he was actually capable of passing urine and passed his first stool since he began the change two and a half weeks before. When school started up again he did online school, and when the 8th grade year ended, Henry's family was contacted by the Academy program. Henry began to become smarter and excelled at work even more so than what his already intelligent parents thought he ever would normally. As he entered ninth grade Henry was enrolled at the prestigious Academy 221. Despite his inhuman appearance Henry's social life boomed at the Academy and it was the first time since his seventh grade that he interacted with people that weren't part of his immediate family. It is the sole reason why Henry is capable of functioning and excelling in society. No relationships though, as you can probably imagine. When Henry began tertiary school, his name was drawn and he was given the opportunity to continue his education on The Promise. Henry's feet have not touched Earth since 2066. He did return a year after accepting his invitation to join The Promise to be present for his sister's wedding. That was quite the event, considering that most of his family wasn't aware that he had... changed. The groom DEFINITELY wasn't. So it was a good time for everyone to see how he reacted when he met Henry for the first time.
Henry has remained on The Promise since then, and hasn't expressed any interest to return to Earth. Since it is now 2073, he has completed his doctoral program and now teaches Biology and gym instructor

Super System, Power
▼ | P O W E R D E S C R I P T I O N : | Reptilian Physiology
Doctor Olin has displayed a total of three powers- all stemming from his general physiology. The first and most easily recognizable, is his reptilian appearance. This trait has allowed him to take on the aspects that a large variety of reptiles from around the world share. Thick scaling, color night vision, and ages at a much slower rate than most. Like most reptiles, his body is incredibly resilient and he has displayed the ability to continue performing activities even when an alarmingly large portion of his body has been damaged. The second power branches off from his durability- a regenerative healing factor that still drops the jaws of many doctors and medical practitioners to this day. Doctor Olin can heal from what would be normally fatal wounds in minutes. Stab wounds, cuts, and otherwise tend to seal in moments, and are completely healed shortly after. After losing an entire arm in a training event, Henry displayed the ability to regrow a fully healed and functional arm in less than six hours. He also displayed the ability to revive and reattach detached limbs so long as they are freshly removed. This ability to heal so efficiently and quickly has removed Henry's instinctual urge to hold himself back in strength related activities. Under normal conditions most beings use only 20-30% of their potential muscle usage. Henry uses 100%, sometimes even more- resulting in muscle fibre damage and other issues that would be crippling if not for the regeneration. Henry's third power is the shortest and most unassuming. Henry is a power anchor, and metahumans with other power related abilities have shown to have no effect on him.
▼ | L I M I T S | W E A K N E S S E S : |
Henry's abilities are much more limited than they are weakened. For the most part, Doctor Olin has become a 'super soldier' capable of doing everything a small platoon can do and more. However, with size has come other complications. Henry cannot fit through some doors, cannot sneak for shit, and is always one of, if not the largest target. There are also other factors that must be accounted for. While his regeneration is incredible, it relies on Henry's ability to sustain himself. After the arm loss experiment, Henry was gorging himself in an effort to regain the mass necessary to regrow a limb. If he cannot compensate for it's usage, Henry cannot regenerate, and if that happens several more complications can occur. Finally, Henry's power anchor is a double edged sword. While no one can take away his power, no one can boost it either.

Henry and Elias Winzer, Promise's techny and best codemonkey, once had a bet issued between them. What the bet specifically entailed, no one besides them have ever been told. Only small details have leaked out - bitcoins, placenta, Breakfast at Tiffany's, nothing that can reveal the bigger picture. As an ultimate result of the bet, Henry had to get a profile shot of Bill Nye the Science Guy tattooed onto his shoulder.

Built like Miesha Tate, and about five times more likely to hurt you, Wednesday is not just a pretty face with a ripped body. Standing at five foot nine and weighing in at over 170lbs, she's not a petite spitfire either. Her body is muscular for a woman's, and is littered with small scars from various experiences in her life. The most prominent scars she has are whip scars that litter her back and vary in size. If you couldn't tell, JunkMail is right shit at describing this character and really just wants to submit her- so if you want to reference what she looks like- look at the appearance.

Wednesday is in general is a rough person. Sure, she can smile and laugh and in general have a good time, but it's usually at someone else's expense or misfortune. She can be a bit standoffish and a good way to define her would be 'generally mean unless you catch her in a good mood'. She's the type of girl that you would let walk six blocks home alone because you know for a fact that you have a greater chance of being mugged or killed or worse than her. Her very presence dominates most situations she's a part of, from social gatherings to a day in the classroom.
Not surprisingly, Wednesday can be very polarizing. People are either drawn to her for her confidence or hate her guts for her cockiness. Not that she really cares, let alone notices. Wednesday tends to be very self-involved, yet carries a sureness and a charm that others admire. She's a natural born authoritarian leader, and she knows it.
Wednesday is the type of person you'd text, that you only text because you either need something you know she will deliver or because you want someone beaten up, that reads your message and forgets to respond to it for a few days.
▼ | B A C K S T O R Y : |
Before Wednesday was brought into the mess she currently is, she lived on the streets in a low income area of Cape Town where crime was fairly commonplace. Because she spent a good deal of her time on the streets from a young age, she became accustomed to violence at a young age and for a long time, she was able to keep her abilities off the radar. However, one slip up in self defense broke the flood gates.
Word of her abilities spread, and a metahuman of her calibre made her a valuable asset to some gangs in the area, and to other gangs who hated the idea of a meta, a target. Over time what little family she had wasn't safe in her presence. After a few break-ins, she was arrested and eventually placed in an Academy program. There, she was pressured into joining The Numbers Gang in order to guarantee the protection of her family. Due to her abilities and lack of real competition, she very quickly became the face of the gang. She was referred to as the 'Fire Salamander' in her area. This stage in her life was when she fell in love with being in a position of power. No one fucked with her or her family without suffering massive bodily damage or worse from either herself or the gang. For a time she saw herself as invincible. However, other gangs still wanted her, or wanted her dead. When she wasn't being forced to hone her abilities the Academy way, she was training on the streets. Gang wars were common place- and eventually her body count and property destruction warranted Promise intervention. Once The Promise set their sites on her, her perceived invincibility was very quickly shattered. For several months she was able to evade them with her gang's protection, but it was a losing game that she could not play and defend her family at the same time.
Now she's being sent to The Promise by force- and anyone who watched the local news probably heard about her. Due to her rebellious nature she has made herself a real big pain in the ass for The Promise's... everything. Be it the troopers, surveillance team, or anything else. She really goes out of her way to make their lives difficult. But now she's being lined up to take off into space. Wonderful.

Elemental
▼ | P O W E R D E S C R I P T I O N : | Plasmatic Manipulation
Wednesday's most commonly used active and passive abilities stem from her habit of literally turning into what we would define as cold plasma. Her body is several thousand degrees celsius to the touch- and she has a horrible habit of setting anything even remotely combustable on fire if she's too close.
Manifestation - When Wednesday activates her powers, she most commonly superheats the plasma that is already present in her blood. When activated, the portion of her body that she focuses power in becomes molten in coloration. The appendage, usually her hands, are comparable to liquid glass in temperature. However, any portion of her body can be superheated, and she can superheat a sizable portion of her body (an entire arm/leg/whatever).
Projection - Even when not in her plasmatic form, she is still capable of generating a good deal of heat if she wants to. She will however, rapidly change into her other form. Wednesday weaponizes her abilities by superheating the air around her to levitate, and can often times fire streams of plasma so hot that it combusts the air around it. She also has a bad habit of setting everything on fire. This can obviously lead to some pretty serious environmental damage.
Physiology - When Wednesday activates her powers, she transforms from her regular and very human self into a being who's entire body is composed purely of plasma and energy. She is a destructive force in this form, and she can cause deadly burns to anyone or thing grabbing her. She becomes almost entirely immune to explosions and energy based attacks in this stage because she has yet to come in contact with anything weaponized that gets as hot as she does. However, she is still vulnerable to the concussive forces generated by them. If a grenade is thrown at her, often times the force of the explosion will do far more damage than the actual explosion.
▼ | L I M I T S | W E A K N E S S E S : |
Wednesday doesn't have a large variety of weaknesses beyond that when she activates her power, she cannot use it all over her body unless she is under extreme stress, and even then, activation of her secondary form is sporadic at best. Her power has more limitations than it does weaknesses. To put things in perspective, it is near impossible to create clothing that doesn't combust when exposed to temperatures comparable to those found on the surface of the sun's. She also has a bad habit of leaving destruction in her wake. She also is no tougher when she activates her powers (aside from her second form) than she is as a regular human.
⫸ O T H E R ⫷
Due to years of hardship, Wednesday is familiar with a fairly wide selection of guns- going as far as to prefer using them over her powers.
