Fit check, and Letterman jacket
Andy sighed as they approached the ice. She was looking forward to getting on it. But there Chase was, and the freshie, that she wasn’t 100% sure wasn’t a prince from some weird other place she had never heard of. Where the hell was Avalon anyway? She had given Gideon a hard time for not knowing Paris was in France. Should she be aware of some place called Avalon?
“I don’t particularly want another detention, so let’s keep the fighting to ourselves, and if anyone complains, claim it was sparing.” It basically was anyway.
As she sat down on a bench to switch from her shoes to the ice skates that Sabine had given her for Christmas, she got a text from April. What the fuck? That definitely hadn’t answered her question. It just brought more to the surface.
“Wait, don’t bother putting those on. There is something going on over by the Fortune Tellers' tent. April’s calling for all hands. Potential for violence.” Andy would much rather skate, but if April’s calling for help, they need it. So she fixes her shoe that was half off, tosses her skates back over her shoulder, and stands up. At least this means they aren’t going to have to deal with Chase and Arthur. Andy isn’t going to call him Prince or whatever title Chase had heaped on the kid. It looked like all of that would crush the kid anyway.
Andy waits long enough for Gideon to follow along, then she hurries to the Fortune Teller’s tent. She wonders if she has changed. She feels like maybe she has a bit at a time, but none of it was to fit in. All of the changes felt right at the time, felt natural. She definitely isn’t the same scared teen who entered this tent in September. She feels more like herself than she ever has.
As she approaches the growing group, spotting her friends in the group, and then spots someone new. Someone oddly familiar, too. It was like when she ran into James, Max, and Casper. Or when she saw Sunshine. A little different, though. For a moment, she wondered why she thought of dark tunnels. A shudder went through her.
Glimpse hadn’t been there when the tunnel had collapsed. She had already fled. Ran because she had killed a SHIELD agent in such a way that Vei- Val couldn’t have covered. Glimpse was wanted more than Andy had ever quite gotten herself. Andy had only known Glimpse for a few hours. Glimpse had spent most of that time sick with M-Pox before the cure had been spread around the group, saving those who were left. Glimpse had parted ways and never went to Genosha, but she was still part of the MU, and if this woman was connected to Glimpse, Andy wanted to help her. She
knew that if she contacted Val, she’d want to help too. Val felt responsible. Too responsible.
Andy walked up, joining her friends. She tilted her head.
“You know you look a heck of a lot like someone I knew. Seventeen years ago, in DC. You wouldn’t happen to be Glimpse’s little sister or something?” April had warned that the woman looked ready to fight, and Andy worried that having everyone gather around her like this would put her on edge. But if this woman... why was she thinking of her as a woman when she looked so obviously like a teen? But if this woman was anything like Glimpse... well, she’d be able to handle herself.

Fit check
Ben took a quick sip of his tea before Chase took it from him. He giggled at the dance, the little jig, remembering the time Chase had convinced him to dance during their road trip. He was still laughing as they fell through the portal onto the ice rink.
He didn’t really care about other things going on, though he noticed some of them. Saw that Percy was there, but gone soon after. Teleporting away, probably to avoid them. The semester was going to be rough. They were roommates. This was going to be a complicated semester of trying to avoid each other.
He also noticed Gideon and Andy, who also left shortly after. He wondered if they were avoiding them, too. He couldn’t entirely blame them. It irritated him, though. Irrational as that was. But he pushed it away because he had Chase, and that was nice. He wished Danni were there too, but at least he had Chase.
As for skating, Ben had been a few times with his uncle over the years. He wasn’t
good at it, but he kept his feet under him. He could move in the big circle around the ice rink without looking like a toddler, and that was good enough for him.
“God, that was cheesy. You know. You can be crazy cheesy.” Ben wanted to distract Chase from the others. The ones who were leaving. Leaving because they showed up. He wanted to distract himself from the pit in his stomach. Would Danni stay friends? He seemed like the type who would.
Ben held onto Chase, partially to steady himself, but also to steady Chase. Skating felt freeing. He had good proprioception, and this didn’t use too many different muscle groups from what he already did. It felt good.
“Do you like hockey or anything like that? Matt plays. I’ve been to his games, practices, and stuff. Pretty cool. If you want, you should join. After they practice, we can go on the ice.” He has only done this a few times. Not even here in L.A. Matt hasn’t found a new group. He hopes that he will. It’s one of those things that Ben knows Matt has done forever. He played when people said he couldn’t because that is the type of person Matt is. Defying gender stereotypes and breaking boundaries wherever he could. And maybe talking about hockey or ice skating or anything but the people around them (or not around them) will be enough to save the day.
