Seishun Academy of Swords, a sword forging RP!

Honestly I don't see the big deal in time taken. If actual smiths can make something decently functional on a reality tv show it really shouldn't be such a slog to make one sword as opposed to I dunno whatever an actual order for supplying a worth of arms would take arm a squad of soldiers. Also only reason japanese swords take so long to make is because of half religious mumbo jumbo rituals and because their metal are garbage.

Plus there's the really important fact that the GM is handwaving the intricacies away of smithing so none of this really matters at all.

Also I have no idea why it matters to KoL so much given he made a character that was specifically removed from the main aspect of the game. It feels like he's trying to backseat GM which is honestly pretty uncouth.

First thing, before you accuse other people, be sure that you have base for such as I'm pretty sure I never did anything to warrant such a claim as the one you did.

Either way, handwaving the processes is one thing, making them into MMO mechanics is another, which kinda makes the whole point of this RP very moot, if that process can even be considered legitimate swordsmithing.

Just read what @ClocktowerEchos said. Most of these modern smiths use modern materials, tools and techniques, those processes don't even produce a combat ready sword, just show pieces and even then they do take time. Man at arms for example, most of the time, cuts theirs swords from sheets of steel, instead of the complicated folding and cooling and folding again process that ensures that an actual sword will not become a piece of brittle cast iron.

Of course I don't want to complicate things or induce anyone to review their actions, I know for a fact that metallurgy is a complicated business and smiting is an even more complicated one. However, there's an eight posts/one IC week time limit to do the sword. Would if be so bad to at least make it in a less cringe worthy manner? Especially considering that there's no way to get more materials to cover up for a failure?

Anyway, my commentaries are not meant to change anything in the RP, I just like to give my opinion because this is plain pointless is all the sword forging on this RP was to learn how to melt steel and pour it on a mold.

Well, I'm getting really weird vibes from hours twisted things are getting. Really, should someone be able to do anything but an utter trashy weapon in more or less a morning, since lunch time isn't even up yet? Suddenly I got a heavy MMORPG vibe.

I don't think so. Things are kinda on very slow pace right now since only a few people have been posting these last few days. As far as I'm aware the love doves should be the same way you and @TheWindel left them the last time you posted, but it's better to check with him.

I apologize if it looked like I was critiquing you or anything like this, of course we all make miscalculations and things like this. I was really commenting that this kind of system (which I actually endorse, since I use it on my own RPs) can lead to people who may lack RL time to post, to have their characters look like derps IC, if you don't take a few things in consideration.

Then again, I'm starting to talk too much, since I'm not technically even part of the competition.

Hurdle s are one thing, being barred from participating because there are no more resources when they're should be plenty is another whole story. Since there's no other way to get the metals on this round of the RP, if they are over them so are the chances of participating on the challenge.

Hmmm... the conditions of this challenge, and the possibility of taking more than 15 metal for reach student made it impossibly punitive for players who didn't managed to post almost at the same time the challenge was issued. Add to that the fact that the academy is full of jerks and the atmosphere got bad real fast.

The last players don't even have enough resources to do a sword each, since so many metals were taken really by greedy souls. That's really disappointing, I think.
