⚘ A Brief History
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
I've been at this a long time and when I say a long time I mean a long long damn time. I started out with table top, ADnD, back in the 80's, then dived into others: Nightlife, Mage the Ascension, Shadow Run, HoL, etc. Moved onto Online in the 90's. I've been running various incarnations of a single RP group for twenty years now. Worked helping setting up, building, and/or admining/modding various RP forums over the years: Adventure Quest, Priston Tales, War Gods, etc. It's been a long road filled with ups and downs. I'm an evil GM, you've been warned.

Outside of RP, I am a mom. Yup, I've reproduced and there are little Lady A's running around plotting their own take over of the world. I am a published author and once upon a time an award winning poet. I've done a lot in my life. I haven't done as much as I would like. I've grown a lot. I have a lot more growing to do. I love to cook, baker by trade currently. I went to university and majored in Mathematics. I've programmed websites, worked as a model, worked as a 3d modeler. Shit, I even used to dance. And have been known to sing a bit. Jack of all trades. Master of like 3, lol.

⚘ Looking Inside
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
This is where I go into my personality. In the past I would normally make some self deprecating remark about how I am a bitch of a GM, pushing my rpers as hard as I push myself and so forth. Not anymore. People change, or perhaps they just come into their own. This can happen at any age. More than that it can happen several times over the course of your life as you discover and rediscover yourself. Everything happens for a reason, usually that reason is ones owns actions. Or inaction's. Right now, I am in a better place than I can remember being in the longest time. I am happy and at peace. I have no regrets. Maybe I should but I don't. I plan on keeping this peace I have found, I went far too long without it.

Currently I am enjoying several things. Some are things I have enjoyed most of my life: Coffee, chocolate, bacon, M*A*S*H. One isn't something I have enjoyed since I was seventeen: being clean and free of poisons in my system. It is beyond description and I love it: One-hundred and twenty days and counting. Music taste is shifting to more mood oriented than anything, strange I am finding a lot of newer Country I am enjoying and I have NEVER liked country. Watching things like Lark Rise to Candleford and being hooked to the point of reading the trilogy. Recently added yoga to my workouts and all I can say is, "Fuckmaste: the fucked up in me accepts the fucked up in you."

Cyril have a thin lipped tight goofy grin towards Foy. "How'th he get hith muthtache to do that?" he asked in complete innocence. The man could be positively adorable the way he looked around wide eyed at everything and everyone. It was like the world was new to him, there was no bad in his mind at times like these.

Jahosafat blinked several times. His head tilting to the side like a dog who was wondering just what in the blue blazes their master was going on about. Foy coming onto the scene didn't move the dapper mahogany man in the slightest. His eyes flickering between Cyril and that sock on his hand. Just what in the 'Verse had Anisa let onto her ship.

Anisa knew, at least half way. She knew Bridgette. And hearing Harper over the com she upped her pace and headed for the galley. Double time. They had a lot to cover today before take off and they had work to do once they did. Things needed to be wrapped up quickly but not too quickly where she couldn't at least say hello to the Viking woman. She owed her that.

"Well holy fuck, it's ebony and ivory." Innocence was not a word that Jericho though was truly familiar with. That sock had a mouth on him. Okay, he was mostly mouth, both figurative and literally.

That made Jahosafat snort in laughter as he brought his hand up to his face. "Daaaaamn." The man was usually much more articulate in his phrasing but sometimes you just went ghetto.

"Bababababitch please," Jericho flapped before Cyril grabbed the sock and clamped down the mouth on that thing with his free hand.

"Thorry, Jericho liketh to thay what'th on hith mind," the towering man said innocently before grinning and rushing back up the stairs. "Excuthe me, gotta make thanmich for pretty lady," he said before darting off.

"I dare say young man, this is an opportunity is social situations that I shan't be absent for, a plethora of personalities converging together in what I can only imagine will be as one Lothario once described as a clusterfuck," he said before taking wide steps to follow the man with the sock.

Anisa came into the galley about the time that Bridgette had just had her first vision of Foy. "That's the barber," she said as she walked over and embraced Bridgette. "Hey bitch, sorry wasn't here sooner, had shit to do. See you have met Harper, that's Foy, I assume coming up behind him is your brother and that dark chap is the doctor," she said before turning and spotting Dorothy coming her way.

Cyril got to work waving happily at Anisa. He wanted to make her a sandwich. Jahosafat tipped his hat but remained silent, he wanted to watch. Yet Anisa could tell there was something going on and it wasn't good. "Jahosafat, take our newest member to see Preacher and get that taken care of. I'll be right back. Harper, make sure no one kills anyone," she added before turning quickly and going over to Dorothy and Daphne.

"Alright, what is it?"
What is your opinion on character sheets?
I believe they are a necessary evil that comes along with role play. Even if you don't have stats to roll on you do need to take a bit and think about the character you want to RP. Does it fit the scenario or the RP? What motivates them? Whether it be writing a book, a play, a tv show, movie, or RP - character sheets help. Especially at the beginning so you can reference and not contradict yourself. Sure your character will change over the course of an RP, that is why Character sheets have to be updated over time.

Faceclaims? Real life? Anime? Digital? Hand drawn? None?
This is all subjective to the role play and the GM but for me it has been a process. At first I used none, then even I went through the ~anime phase~, then hand drawn, then I created my own. Now I default to a FC from real life. There are multiple reasons for this but the biggest one as of the last year is because I do create music videos in tribute to scenes in my rps or deaths that have occurred. It's a fun little extra so having people use real face claims makes it so much easier to put those together.

Color codes?
I used to hate color codes, that was until I started using them. Much of the time they do seem pointless but then when you get 2+ characters of the same gender collabing it saves a lot of confusion. Especially if say you have 3 or 4 working together and at least two of them have the same hair or eye color. It helps create a much better flow and recognition.

What's the 'right amount' of images?
Depends on the role play. For most of my CS's I do prefer to have 5 or 6. Why so many? Well much of the time if I don't have that many slots the rpers add that many anyways lol. Outside of that, when I am filling out a CS I like to find images to show different aspects of the character - appearance, psychology, etc. Having images helps me better lock into my character. A picture is worth a thousand words you know, :P.

Freeform or GM provided code?
Oh I cannot do freeform. Oh lord no. I believe a GM should provide one and the same one should be used for every rper coming into the mix. Why? Fair play and equal expectations across the board. Doesn't matter how detailed the CS is, everyone should be required to provide the same amount of information minimal. Not only that but having a uniformed CS helps Gms more efficiently reference a players CS.

Things that should be be included/excluded?
There is a lot that can go into a CS that depends on the RP itself. Things I believe should be in every CS is A.P.H. - Appearance, personality, history. Appearance to know what the character looks like. Personality so you have a foundation of how your character is going to think and react to situations. History because your character came from somewhere, they have gone through things, this helps explain A. & P. because your history is going to influence both.

Skills, possessions, other stuff - that all is dependent on the RP. You don't have to worry about skills as much if it is just a hang out RP. You don't need number stats as much if you aren't rolling for checks. A lot just depends on who you are rping with and how large the group is.

What is your character creation process? Is character creation just all together overrated?
I have 2 standard style CS's. One for Rps within the LAU (Lady A Universe: This is my main 6 RPs) and ILU (Illusory Liaisons Universe: This is for the new RP Saga) - Both include certain standards I want to see in every CS, they differ though greatly in things like skills and the numbers since ILU Rp's are heavily based on stats and rolls being made.

Personally I think that character creation is underrated. It is a pivotal tool that if used through out an Rp can be invaluable. Especially if you are having a hard time coming up with a post. If you have a good solid CS to work from, you can reference it and remember little tidbits that can be used to help you get back into your characters mindset. It gives you a foundation and frame work to build on. Yeah yeah, people go ~well I want to get a feel for my character~ - Yeah we all do but if you don't start somewhere chances are you are going to fall into the same character you have played a thousand times. Want to branch out, us the CS, build from it, update it as needed, use it to know where you started and to plot a path to where you want to go character wise. Good CS utilization will help turn a flat 2 dimensional character into a fully fleshed out character with depth.

Etc.
In conclusion I feel that are needed. They help keep things in check and equal across the board for every Rper in an RP. Not everyone likes them. I know plenty of people have not joined my rps because they don't like filling out a CS. To each their own like with anything. It all boils down to finding the right balance between what the RP needs and how the GM wants to execute the RP.
@Ciaran Feel free to fill out a cs and pm it to me. ^_^
Fantasy Chic has had a back up character, Faye, approved via PM.
Quick note and this is my fault for not catching it sooner. Thankfully someone dropped me a message and pointed it out to me.

@Gordoth @Romero - Said this in chat but just to be sure it doesn't get missed - I need you both to edit your posts and put your characters text in color code - this is part of the rules and layout of the rp. Sorry I didn't catch it sooner when you sent me the posts, that is on me but I still need the edits.

Also, @Gordoth I tagged you in chat but chat has been a bit busy - you have a secondary edit to make. I corrected it when I sent your post back but you UNfixed it. That header is wrong, go back and fix it to where it should be - like it shows in the post I sent you back. (You don't have to worry about moving your post to SI this round, I did it since Romero needed to be able to post his. You will have to next time though.)

@Romero You need to put your post over on SI soon as you edit it here so the next person that posts won't be held up.
Oh I have so many yet the one that sticks out in my mind the most was a table top RPG known as Nightlight back in the late 90's. We were campaigning one night, it was late of course and there was a heavy cloud of half smoked cigarettes in the air. We had been gaming for probably 12 hours straight. The GM had us in this bad situation and our party was divided. Half of us on one side of a compound, half of us on the other. We had communicators, so we thought it was all good. Little ones in our watches.

GM: What do you do?
Me: Okay, listen we are pinned down under heavy fire, we need back up.
GM: ~looks at the other player~ You don't hear anything.
Me: ~repeats herself~
GM: Still don't hear anything.
Me: ~repeats herself again~
GM: Still nothing.
Me: ~goes through the same process like five more times~
GM: Again, nothing.

I was confused, why wasn't my watch not working. It had a communicator in it. This shit should work!

Me: ~lifts her wrist and speaks into it~ Not my character, me...
GM: ~falls out of the chair laughing~

Apparently I had gotten too into character and forgotten that I didn't actually realize that I wasn't my character, that I didn't have a watch on with a communicator in it. I was totally confused why he and slowly everyone else started laughing. I was getting pissed, kept retrying to talk into my damn wrist. At that point the Gm quickly called it a night and the guys shuffled my ticked sleep deprived ass to bed. It wasn't until I woke up the next morning that I realized what I had done. (Granted to this day, I still don't know why my communicator didn't work lol)
@Sigil Fucking bears.... Okay, approved - move him over to the cs tab.

And we have begun. Was that opening post a little shorter than you were expecting? Yes, it is in comparison to most I write. There is reason for that. I am sure those that were approved for the RP were well aware of the number of rolls I made. Much of those rolls were to determine a vast amount of things that are going to affect the RP. Most they were to see how things fell into place. Thing is, most of that has NOT been posted about. Yet. And I will not be posting for it. I will be sending each of you privates messages shortly to let you know little tid bits.

Now, as you start getting your replies together I want you to remember a few things - Anything you attempt must be rolled for. Those numbers are not there just to look pretty. Neither are your skills. Use them, even your basic abilities. I suggest to start you ask about anything that even hints at needing a roll. It will be easier that way instead of having to go back and need an edit later.

One big thing I want to remind you of. The forum rules. This RP is twisted but the forum only allows through pg-13. So watch yourself. Especially when it comes to describing things of a more personal nature. I will not have this turn into a smut fest that gets shut down. So do NOT make any overly crude and blunt mentions of private areas. If you wonder, message me privately. Please make sure to go back and reread the section under Game Mechanics labeled The Dice for instructions. I don't want to waste time answering questions that would have been avoided with a simple read through.

Some of you are arriving on foot, others by horseback, and others by carriage. Here is a list of how each character is arriving.
  • Foot:
    • Doctor Kindle
    • Miss Creme
    • Master Plum
  • Horse:
    • Lady Lechery
    • Justice Cobalt
    • Sister Penance
    • Prima Rave
    • Mr. Titian
    • Master Tack
    • Captain Moss
  • Carriage:
    • Madam Envy
    • Professor Walnut
    • Mounte Bank
    • Madam Mauve
    • Debutante Blush
    • Dr. Swamp

Those in carriages - you either drove them here yourself or had 1 person driving for you. If you had someone with you, they can either walk back home and leave the carriage or take the carriage with them. They will not be allowed in the gate.

Those on horseback and on foot - oh, what a treat for you. I wonder how many of you took into account this is winter? The season was on the invitation and weather was posted for in appendix 12. Oh those little details are a bitch aren't they? How hard it was for me not to point that out but I am a very cruel mistress and this RP is about evil and suffering and all types of shenanigans. It wouldn't have been exactly fair to coach people through that. Don't worry, things will be included in your pm. Some of those rolls were to see if you bundled up or not. ^_~ Let's see how many passed!

Do remember to use your headers when you start posting. They are in appendix 6. Change out the color code rosybrown to your personal color code. Place in your Alias under character name. Under skills - you will write in anything you get a roll for. If you didn't get a roll for it, place N/A. Location for your first post will be Shadowell Forest: Front Gate This will change as your character moves. Make sure to place your Max HP next to current hit points. This will change as you take damage. Make sure to check all the rules for the header in Appendix 6.

One last note. I know this Rp is housed in the advanced section, that is only because of the complexity of the OOC and game mechanics. It has NOTHING to do with expected post length. I know many of you are going to be tempted to go overboard. It is expected. The minimal posting amount for this is 2 well developed paragraphs. Thing is, it would do me and everyone else involved a lot of good if you tried your best not to make your posts too terribly long. We do have over a dozen active PCS - that is a LOT of information to keep up with during a counter. Try to keep your posts well developed but clear and concise as well as you write. Try not to guild the lily too much. It will make for much more enjoyable game play over the long haul, make posting on you easier if you don't have to read a wall of text constantly and make far less get missed by yourself and others. Especially when calling for rolls. Not to mention the more internal monologue you reveal the harder it is going to be to keep shit a secret.

A large group has formed at the gate. As the first glimpse of the gate came into view in the distance, the only sound that broke the silence of the woods was the travelers who had dared entered the forest of Shadowell. It seemed as everything was abandoned, that was until in the distance at the other side of the gate men on horseback came tearing down the path. Dead leaves kicking up beneath their hooves as viscous looking dogs barked and bared their teeth; saliva dripping from their jowls with each snap of their jaws. Seven riders and six dogs come to the far side of the gate.

Guns drawn but not lifted to fire, yet, as they come to a halt at the gate. A round man dismounts from his stallion whose nostrils flare and steam rises from them. The man looks to be over six feet in height, nearly as tall as the walls that surround the grounds. His bulging eyes are so green they seem to glow as he eyes you all, there is a twitch on his weathered face and his short mustache looks to frosting over in the cold. His gray hair is long but only on half of his head. The other side is shaved clean to reveal his scalp.

"Hrmph," comes between his lips as the dogs bark cuts through the air. An iron key ring is produced from beneath his coat. Many keys, old and worn, hang heavily from it. One is chosen as he unlocks the gate and steps though. The sound of the gate opening is like a cry of pain that cuts through tension, the dogs go silent. The rest remain on the other side. "Dismount your horses, exit your carriages, they will be tended to for you. Bring what you care to carry and present your invitations to Leo at the gate. No one but those with invitations are allowed past the gate. Any others attempting will be shot." His voice is gruff and firm as he speaks, walking towards you all and through the crowd you have created. Repeating himself several times to ensure he has been heard.

On the other side of the gate another man dismounts as the name Leo is spoken for the first time. Leo is shorter than the man that is speaking, yet he seems much more imposing physically. The man is massive in his build. His pallid skin seems as if it has taken on the feel of the very air itself. His bright orange hair stands out starkly against the color of the forest and is pulled back in tight thin corn rows against his scalp until their blend together in a long thick braid that comes to his waist. Golden eyes flicker beneath droopy eye lids. Each of his foot falls is like the stomping of a giant.

One side of the gate is opened by Leo and it screams again from the motion. He stands there with a hand out to accept and check each invitation as it is presented before motioning to a spot inside the gate. "Wait there," Leo says. His voice is uncharacteristically high pitched from such a large man. It is comical in its tone, even coming from the mans slightly attractive face.

The men on the horses watch each of you closely, adjusting their guns as they rest in their saddles and keep their mounts in place. Several of the dogs are snapping again, growling venomously. Once inside the gate, you can see on the inside of the grounds, that was hidden by the wall, is a track of iron. Two lines running parallel to each other. They look old and slightly rusted where they lay on the ground and the thick lines seem to be partially buried in the ground. There is a thick line of trees and shrubbery on either side of the road that leads off into the distance that you cannot see beyond, it feels as if everything could close in on you at any moment.

⊰𝕊eason/𝕎eather⊱
The Winter is upon the land of Rutas Mu, it is of course the thirteenth day of winter. That is when your invitation told you to arrive for the masquerade. Winter does mean cold. The Ambesire home is located in the center of Shadowell Forest and that is situated in the eye of the world. The current temperature? It is a brisk 27 degrees, this is not horrible for this time of year but there is still a bitter chill in the air. Clouds cover the sky, rolling their shades of gray above the tops of the trees. The air is damp and makes the cold cling to exposed skin.

⊰𝕋ime 𝕆f 𝔻ay⊱
As per your invitation, you are arriving at Dusk. With it being winter the light dwindles early and is fully Night Light by 5 p.m. - You arrive to the gates just prior.

⊰𝔸mbiance/𝕊ights⊱
There is a very short amount of day light during the winter and the clouds roll over head, the feeling in the air even before entering Shadowell Forest is ominous. Yet as you pass through the line of trees on the road to the Ambesire home located deep within, there is a heavy feeling of foreboding that presses down on one both physically and mentally.

The road through the forest is lined on each side with dense woods. Much of the underbrush is dying away and the first snow of the year has not occurred but there is a fog that rolls over the path constantly and one can hear the silence. That dead silence that creeps in and makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. Every so often that silence is abruptly broken by a rustling, a bird cawing out in what sounds like pain, a wolf howling, or a tree limb snapping. Each sound is alone and before another is heard that silence creeps back in.

The road cuts through the forest and slowly in the distance something comes into view. Even to those with good vision it is difficult to make out due to the fog but eventually you will see the gate. On either side of it stretches a brick wall that stands seven feet in height and is worn. Atop of the wall resides razor sharp spikes, some of which seem stained with thick coagulated crimson. The gate is closed, locked. Who knew silence could grow to deafening levels. That is until it is broken as you all arrive.
