That's a...cool idea. A weak demon made much stronger by a premade physical body. It'd certainly work with the whole theme of the occult. The interactions between souls and demons would be very interesting. I could imagine monsters formed out of half-demon half-mortals, where part of their soul has been returned -- but the rest is supplanted by demons. Perhaps they would hunger for more souls to fill themselves up with. But that would depend on whether Slough/Legion/Fretzzo were down with allowing that kind of stuff to happen.

Man, Reathos will have a field day gathering up half-souls and demon possessed souls. I can imagine him yelling already:"Why can't you leave my precious cycle alone!"
@Kho ...You guys were never intended on making anything really self-substaining and functional back in the previous installments were you?
Slough can't create new souls. What's all this nonsense about splitting souls into spirits? That's so confusing. How about I lay a knowledge smackdown on you.

A soul is the incorporeal and immortal essence of a living being. The characteristics of a soul were outlined in detail and given names by the Egyptian pagan beliefs. They include the Personality of the being (what makes it unique), the Heart of the being (strong emotion associated with it in life), the Shadow of the being (its impact on the world; comparable to memories), the Name of the being (representative of its power and status), and the Vital Spark (what makes the soul alive). New souls can only come into existence in sentient beings, but souls can be forced into non-sentient beings to 'empower' them.

Slough's reincarnation takes all five of these soul elements and puts them in a new form. The Vital Spark is preserved completely, but the other four are dulled by the process to the point of a lack of self-awareness and maybe a lack of sentience depending on the damage, though still essentially the same being.

I imagine that necromancy, flawed and abominable sorcery that it is, would take only the Heart, the Shadow, and the Name, sacrificing the Personality and the Vital Spark as part of the wasteful process. Ultimately, this process destroys the soul when the undead body is destroyed, disintegrating rather than rejoining the Primordial Pool. The Heart provides an approximation of the Personality, but far more emotional and extreme, as befits one who 'came back wrong'.

The Pool, now, should be a well of souls in their entirety. Dead beings' souls automatically relocate to the Pool upon their death, unless some curse gets in the way, and the souls remain in the Pool until someone does something with them.

I am an enormous fan of the soul-centered RPG where you can kill things or perform odd gestures in front of them, and there's a friendly skeleton.

Undertale? Pah. I'm talking

@Lugubrious Pretty sure the whole removing elements-of-soul thing is splitting souls รก la Reathos' suggestion.

I was getting a pretty big Dark Souls vibe too.

And I'm LOVING it! Yeah, I'm 100% behind this idea.
I actually just realized that, over PM, @Lugubrious and I already settled on the first system.

But I'd like to add some stuff just so necromancy works. Spirits don't immediatly return to the Primordial Pool. That's why Reathos is here. He gathers them (or rather his Holy Sites will) and he returns them through him to the Primordial Pool. Now, a skilled necromancer could start attracting the right spirits to him to piece together the soul again.

Lesser necromancy would simply be that they use magic to animate a corpse if that's okay.

For the Pool I'd say that only Reathos can 'access' it concidering he is actually part of the thing.

If @Lugubrious and @Frettzo are both OK with this system, then I guess we figured it all out.
@Fabulous Knight Well, as I described it for now: when a body holding a soul dies, the soul shatteres into fragments named spirits. These spirits return to Reathos' Primordial Pool.

From that point things seem to be a little foggy so I suggest we stamp it out for real. Either Slough can drain (for some odd reason) from the spirits in the Primordial Pool (which serve as building blocks for souls) and makes new ones. Or the Primordial Pool makes souls out of itself and releases them into the wild World.

Personally I'd go for idea 1.
@Legion02 New time of dead?

Either way, I have an idea of what the terms are. And then we have a problem because of the censure/praise abilities that require might: which state we can summon back the dead.

@Kho The summon back the dead thingie might indeed be a bit of a problem. As my character is kind of built around taking the spirits (think of them as shattered fragments of a soul) and returning them to the Primordial Pool so they can be 'reforged' into souls. The important part here is that these spirits hold fragmented memories. I'd assume that Slough could imbue a corpse with another soul. Or gods could simply 'resurrect' the corpse into unnatural life. But all those beings would be without memories.

Reathos isn't too happy already about people who live longer than they should. Imagine if a god brings back a corpse to life. Reathos himself would go to rip the body to shreds if he had to. Such thing would be a true abomination in his eyes. In fact, he won't even dare think that a god would have the audacity to do such a thing. (In other words, do it!)
Actually yes.

But there is a catch. The one who's supposed to die lives, but must serve Reathos until his new time of dead arrives. At that point, Reathos knows no mercy. Also, throught the service there will be several catches.

There also is no garantue that Reathos accepts any deal. This all goes for all demi-gods and other kind of immortals (with the exception of gods, with on that another exception if Fate demands it).
I'm start to wonder how Logos would handle Reathos. As Reathos only listens to Fate. If one of Logos' demi-gods or heroes has to die, Reathos will do everything in his power to make it happen. Probably only giving Logos a heads up...
Okay getting it. But to continue on the subject of life. At what point can we say natural life-forms (AKA those who evolved naturally over time and those planted by Slough) do they get souls? Or rather, does the soul power of a creature increase over the course of it's evolution? Because honestly I can't imagine a snail or bacteria having the same kind of soul power as a human or whale.

I'm lost. What are you asking xDDDD

I think Dawnscroll is try to ask that, as his god's power concerns gravity (and time), couldn't he just use that to create new celestial objects instead of using might to do so.
